Could humans one day live forever? Maria Vorontsova, the eldest daughter of Russian President Vladimir Putin, believes advances in medicine could eventually bring humanity closer to that possibility. Vorontsova, a 41-year-old endocrinologist who heads Moscow State University’s Medical Research and Education Institute, discussed the future of longevity at a forum in Moscow last week titled Live Long, Live Differently.Her approach has two stages. Healthy habits, including a balanced diet, regular exercise and limiting alcohol, could help people live into their late 80s, she suggested. Putin, who has led Russia since 2000, has spoken publicly about the possibility of extending active life through biotechnology and organ replacement.During a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing last year, the two leaders were overheard discussing ageing and the prospect of humans living to 150.Putin later told reporters that advances in medicine and organ-replacement surgery offered hope that people could remain active for longer.In 2024, he announced a $26 billion national project, New Technologies for Health Preservation, aimed at improving healthcare and extending life expectancy. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday (Oct 24) said that the war with the United States and Israel is leaving many people struggling to afford basic necessities, as pressure on the country’s economy continues to mount. The remarks come as Washington increasingly relies on economic pressure against Tehran, including a blockade of Iranian ports that has restricted oil exports and trade. Iran, meanwhile, has maintained restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.In a speech published on his website, Pezeshkian said, “There are many people in this society who are struggling to put food on the table because of the war we have found ourselves in, because of the wartime conditions we are living under.”<h2>Ceasefire stalemate raises fears of fresh fighting</h2>The conflict began on February 28, when US and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior military commanders. Tehran retaliated with attacks on Israel and US assets across the region.A ceasefire brokered mainly by Pakistan in mid-June was meant to halt the fighting and open the door to wider negotiations. However, the arrangement collapsed soon afterwards, with both sides accusing each other of violating its terms.Pezeshkian called for an end to the “state of neither war nor peace”, saying Tehran “must also get out of this situation”. He did not detail how his government intended to achieve that.<h2>Iran warns against another US strike</h2>Concerns about renewed military action have grown after US ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack said on Friday that American strikes could resume within days.“Could there be a strike this weekend? Absolutely,” Barrack told podcast host Mario Nawfal. He does not have a direct role in Iran policy.Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned that any fresh attack would trigger a response. After people in Belgium, Italy, Portugal and France protested, Spain has also begun protesting over the state pension scheme. Nearly 250,00 people are moving through central Madrid, according to central officials. The state pension scheme in Spain is one of the hot topics in a parliamentary election next month.<h3>Why protest in Spain?</h3>The protest followed amid a political row that surfaced over the sustainability of Spain’s pension scheme and the cost of living. In response, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who leads Spain’s Socialist Party (PSOE), accused right-wing opposition parties of planning to weaken or roll back the system where pensions automatically increase in line with inflation. This protest follows a similar pattern and activity witnessed in cities across Europe, most notably in France, where several demonstrators have gathered in cities across the country. In Madrid, protestors have also walked peacefully from Atocha train station to the Gran Via, the Spanish capital’s prime shopping avenue. A few days ago, people were also protesting in Spain over inflation, the cost of living, and the housing shortage.&nbsp;Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/france-protests-135-arrested-weapons-seized-as-fresh-demonstrations-erupt-amid-heavy-security-1792848156758">France protests: 135 arrested, weapons seized as fresh demonstrations erupt amid heavy security</a>&nbsp;Across Europe, hundreds of thousands of people have independently taken to the streets in a series of uncoordinated protests driven by growing frustration over the rising cost of living in their countries. France bore the brunt of it, witnessing one of its most chaotic protest days in decades. The Interior Ministry put the number of demonstrators at over 550,000, with clashes breaking out between police and protesters nationwide. What began as a continuation of weeks-long student-led demonstrations spiralled into violence, vandalism and arson after radical fringe elements targeted government buildings, high-end stores and supermarkets, while also attacking police personnel and vehicles. According to French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, authorities arrested 1,200 people, while 150 police officers sustained injuries. Speaking to officers stationed in central Paris, he remarked that it was “a miracle the toll wasn’t higher.” AFP reported that shops across multiple cities — including Paris, Marseille, Nice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Limoges, Lille, Toulouse and Strasbourg — were ransacked during the unrest.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who leads Spain’s Socialist Party (PSOE), accused right-wing opposition parties of planning to weaken or roll back the system where pensions automatically increase in line with inflation.

After people in Belgium, Italy, Portugal and France protested, Spain has also begun protesting over the state pension scheme. Nearly 250,00 people are moving through central Madrid, according to central officials. The state pension scheme in Spain is one of the hot topics in a parliamentary election next month. Why protest in Spain? The protest followed amid a political row that surfaced over the sustainability of Spain’s pension scheme and the cost of living. A few days ago, people were also protesting in Spain over inflation, the cost of living, and the housing shortage. Israeli forces have raided and displaced more than 200 Palestinian families from Hebron in the occupied West Bank within a day, in an act being described by Israeli officials as a campaign of collective punishment. This comes following an attack by gunmen who killed two Israeli soldiers and injured three near a checkpoint outside the city, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a comprehensive lockdown of the entire occupied West Bank.According to reports documented by Al Jazeera, nearly 1,000 checkpoints, roadblocks, and iron gates across the West Bank have been completely sealed. At least 15 towns have been targeted in the northern West Bank, including Nablus, Jenin, Tubas and Qalqilya, according to Al Jazeera. Clashes were reported in Hebron, southern West Bank, between Israeli settlers and Palestinian families, according to Israel’s Walla news outlet.&nbsp;Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/france-yellow-vest-protests-paris-security-deployment-macron-1792836989083">France deploys 70,000 security personnel as protests sweep across the nation</a>This comes after an Israeli bulldozer demolished a three-storey building, as families were given five minutes to collect their belongings. Hebron has been strictly sealed off, with seven primary district entrances closed by the military. Movement between cities in the West Bank has been heavily restricted, isolating local communities.The far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, posted a video of himself in front of a bulldozer as it tore down a Palestinian home near the site of the firefight. This comes on the trail of an election campaign which saw Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition bloc weaken, according to a final poll published on October 23 by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, with 48 seats in the 120-member Knesset. Israel imposes a sweeping lockdown across the occupied West Bank, sealing nearly 1,000 checkpoints and displacing hundreds of Palestinian families in Hebron.

Israeli forces have raided and displaced more than 200 Palestinian families from Hebron in the occupied West Bank within a day, in an act being described by Israeli officials as a campaign of collective punishment. This comes following an attack by gunmen who killed two Israeli soldiers and injured three near a checkpoint outside the city, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a comprehensive lockdown of the entire occupied West Bank. According to reports documented by Al Jazeera, nearly 1,000 checkpoints, roadblocks, and iron gates across the West Bank have been completely sealed. At least 15 towns have been targeted in the northern West Bank, including Nablus, Jenin, Tubas and Qalqilya, according to Al Jazeera. Clashes were reported in Hebron, southern West Bank, between Israeli settlers and Palestinian families, according to Israel’s Walla news outlet. Also Read: France deploys 70,000 security personnel as protests sweep across the nation This comes after an Israeli bulldozer demolished a three-storey building, as families were given five minutes to collect their belongings. Al Jazeera reported that they carried “small bags of clothes” and are now set up in temporary shelters facilitated by the Hebron municipality. Hebron has been strictly sealed off, with seven primary district entrances closed by the military. Movement between cities in the West Bank has been heavily restricted, isolating local communities. The far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, posted a video of himself in front of a bulldozer as it tore down a Palestinian home near the site of the firefight. This comes on the trail of an election campaign which saw Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition bloc weaken, according to a final poll published on October 23 by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, with 48 seats in the 120-member Knesset. The election is being seen as a referendum on Netanyahu's promise to guarantee Israeli national security.

World Polio Day is commemorated annually on October 24 to raise awareness about the critical importance of vaccination in eliminating poliomyelitis (polio). Observance of this day also honours the contributions of frontline workers, volunteers, and parents in eliminating the devastating disease. The theme for World Polio Day 2026 is "One Day. One Focus: Ending Polio." Polio is a viral infection that can cause permanent paralysis. In severe cases, it causes death. Before a person is affected by the polio virus, the vaccine is the only defence against poliomyelitis because there is no cure for polio once it affects a person. Therefore, vaccination is the only method to protect children and completely eradicate the disease. In order to safeguard and protect a large population from the deadly virus, the World Health Organisation and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have worked together globally to launch vaccination drives before the virus attacks. The move has eliminated polio in over &nbsp;125 other countries since 1988. India has also remained free of wild poliovirus cases since 2011.&nbsp;Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/trending/he-was-born-retired-with-3-kids-and-2-mortgages-baby-born-with-a-moustache-video-goes-viral-watch-1792822472580">'Already tired of his 9-to-5': Baby born with a moustache becomes internet sensation, video goes viral | Watch</a><h3>Why are two countries still endemic to polio?</h3>However, two countries remain in the world where Wild poliovirus (specifically wild poliovirus type 1) is still endemic: Afghanistan and Pakistan. The disease has never been fully eliminated there despite global efforts. Surprisingly, Afghanistan recorded the highest number of cases globally in 2026, with most cases concentrated in eastern and southern provinces along the Pakistan border, where frequent cross-border movement complicates control efforts. A major reason polio persists is weak or interrupted vaccination coverage. In Afghanistan, the Taliban has long hindered eradication efforts, attacking health workers, especially in the south, which disrupted the supply chain and access to vaccine. Conflict also prohibits access to certain regions, and distrust toward vaccination campaigns has made it difficult to reach every child consistently. In Pakistan, transmission is now largely confined to specific hotspots. Virus transmission is now largely restricted to southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an area that shares porous borders with Afghanistan, allowing the virus to keep circulating between the two countries. Experts stress that the two nations function as a single epidemiological block. Cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan is considered vital to interrupting transmission together, since cross-border population movement means progress in one country can be undone by continued spread in the other. Despite the challenges, both countries have seen declining case numbers in 2026 compared to 2025, with health officials citing a “historic opportunity” to finally interrupt transmission through sustained immunisation drives, improved surveillance, and renewed government focus on remaining hotspots.&nbsp;

Ahead of next month's US midterm elections, President Donald Trump has increasingly blamed Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries for surging domestic energy prices, which are causing him political trouble. Analysts say, however, that the main driver of higher fuel prices remains the US-Iran war. Over the past 18 months, Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks on Russia's energy industry, aiming to cut Kremlin revenues and weaken its ability to fund the war. With just two weeks left for the US midterms 2026, the campaigning has taken a sharp turn, with candidates across the country accusing rivals of going easy on child predators. As per an NBC News report, more than 500 House, Senate and gubernatorial ads this cycle have focused on disgraced financier, convicted sex trafficker, paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and have used the phrases "child predator," "predator" or “paedophile,” according to AdImpact, which tracks campaign advertising. That is roughly two per cent of all tracked ads. As per the reports, candidates across the board have ramped up the attacks sharply this month in nearly every competitive state.Democrats and allied groups back nearly three in four of these spots. Many tie directly to the release, or the refusal to release, of files connected to Jeffrey Epstein. Democrats have hit Republicans for voting against making more information public or for accepting donations from people whose names appeared in unredacted documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.Note: A name in those files did not mean the person had committed a crime.Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/trump-s-us-midterm-bribe-5-000-dividend-1-2-trillion-promise-fiscal-hawks-and-the-voters-who-want-the-cheque-but-don-t-expect-it-1792228505050">US Midterms: Trump doubles down on $5,000 dividend as economists call it a 'half-baked political scheme'. Can a Republican win guarantee it?</a><h2>Texas leads the spending</h2>No state has put more money behind these ads than Texas, where upward of $38 million has been spent in the fiercely contested Senate race and more than $8 million in two House races.Democrat James Talarico, a state lawmaker, has hammered Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton over a plea deal his office offered a Waco man charged with sexually abusing a boy. In one campaign spot, Talarico walks through a warehouse as the words "NEVER GIVEN AN EPSTEIN-STYLE DEAL" flash behind him. "I've never given a sweetheart deal to a pedophile," he says in the ad.The case centres on former Waco attorney Adam Hoffman, who faced life without parole on felony charges of continuous sexual abuse of a young child. His trial ended in a mistrial in June 2025, and Paxton's office offered a plea deal and one day in jail. Prosecutors wrote to a state lawmaker that the deal was "a difficult decision" because the boy did not wish to testify again. Hoffman ultimately served 29 days."There is an infinite number of ways you can say and explain with evidence that this guy is a corrupt loser," a Democratic strategist close to the campaign said of Paxton. "But this one is so clear, and it gets people's attention, and it's just right in your face on tape, and it just happened."<h2>Why now</h2>The wave comes at a cultural moment of heightened attention on alleged paedophiles. The recent months saw huge discourse on the so-called Epstein files, with widespread anger over the botched release of the documents surrounding the case by Trump's administration. The heavily redacted files left much to be desired and were slammed for outing information, including compromising pictures of the victims.Additionally, online "pedophile hunter" shows have grown in popularity, building on the QAnon conspiracy theory that claimed Donald Trump was fighting a cabal of pedophile elites.An upcoming movie, "Primetime," starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, host of the defunct NBC show "To Catch a Predator," also contributed to the attention. It follows the 2025 documentary "Predators," which examined the legacy of that programme.One national GOP strategist told NBC that the tactic is less about ideology and more about dragging down an opponent's favourability to keep voters away from the polls. But the strategist also pointed to a wider societal focus, suggesting the ads may be "meeting an American cultural moment", adding, "In a way that's kind of grim."Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/the-mamdani-factor-how-nyc-s-mayor-could-influence-the-november-2026-midterm-elections-1791622472019">US midterm elections: Why Zohran Mamdani's influence could become a headache for Democrats and Republicans</a><h2>Kansas, Ohio and Iowa</h2>Texas is one of at least six states where more than $10 million has been spent on such ads. Kansas, Ohio and Iowa have seen the most Epstein and paedophilia-related spots in their Senate races.In Kansas, both candidates accuse the other of being soft on child predators. Republicans are targeting Democrat Adam Hamilton, a pastor, over a child sex abuse scandal at his church camps, citing two instances of a volunteer attempting to assault campers. Hamilton denies any cover-up but says he would respond differently now. The Kansas City Star, which reviewed court records, reported that church officials found an internal investigation inconclusive, did not report the first allegation to police, and allowed the volunteer, Scott Preston Moore, to return to camp the next year. The church later reported Moore to police after a second allegation and barred him from working with children.Hamilton has fought back on air, accusing his opponent, Sen. Roger Marshall, of "lying" and saying his church "reported incidents involving a volunteer to law enforcement and then cut ties with him." His ad also notes that Hamilton "later helped get this predator convicted," pointing to Moore's 2013 conviction.Hamilton is also hitting Marshall for voting against the release of the Epstein files. Last September, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered an amendment to a defence bill ordering the files' release, and nearly every Republican voted to table it. Marshall called the vote a "political stunt."The Senate later passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act by unanimous consent.Marshall adviser Alex Degrasse said the senator "has always supported the release," including the unanimous consent vote last November that Trump signed. That second vote came after Trump permitted Republicans to support release after months of resistance. Trump had a years-long friendship with Epstein but denies wrongdoing.<h2>The Ramaswamy-Acton ad controversy</h2>Also adding fuel to the fire is an ad by Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for governor, in Ohio. The controversial ad features the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton, casting her daughter as a liar.The ad centres on paedophilia and dates back nearly 50 years, when Acton, then 12, accused her stepfather of sexual assault. Court records show the man was indicted on a rape charge. Acton said in 2019 she last saw her mother at a hearing during the 1978 case. Her brother, Phillip Stearns, released a statement pointing to the "sexual abuse Amy endured at 12 years old from our birth mother's husband," saying the siblings were removed from custody after the arrest.Several Republicans, including in Ohio, have criticised the ad or called for it to be pulled. Trump on Thursday encouraged Ramaswamy to lean into it, while Vice President JD Vance said Republicans needed to "stop whining" about it.In North Carolina, Cooper's campaign has gone after his opponent, former RNC chairman Michael Whatley, for appointing Harvey West, a convicted sex offender and long-time party fundraiser, to a state party committee. West claims he did not commit the crimes and pleaded guilty to avoid a stiffer sentence, The Associated Press reported. A Whatley spokesperson, DJ Griffin, instead said Cooper "failed at his most basic job to protect our kids and keep North Carolinians safe."The ads come as voters have recoiled at the Epstein files and rank corruption as a top issue. A June Quinnipiac survey found 38 per cent of voters said the Epstein investigation was important to their vote.

Jeffrey Epstein has been dead for years, but his name is back at the centre of America's political battle. With candidates increasingly accusing rivals of protecting child predators, the controversy over his files is shaping a fierce new wave of US midterm attack ads.

As per the reports, candidates across the board have ramped up the attacks sharply this month in nearly every competitive state. Democrats and allied groups back nearly three in four of these spots. Many tie directly to the release, or the refusal to release, of files connected to Jeffrey Epstein. Democrats have hit Republicans for voting against making more information public or for accepting donations from people whose names appeared in unredacted documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Note: A name in those files did not mean the person had committed a crime. Also read | US Midterms: Trump doubles down on $5,000 dividend as economists call it a 'half-baked political scheme'. Can a Republican win guarantee it? Texas leads the spending No state has put more money behind these ads than Texas, where upward of $38 million has been spent in the fiercely contested Senate race and more than $8 million in two House races. Democrat James Talarico, a state lawmaker, has hammered Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton over a plea deal his office offered a Waco man charged with sexually abusing a boy. In one campaign spot, Talarico walks through a warehouse as the words "NEVER GIVEN AN EPSTEIN-STYLE DEAL" flash behind him. "I've never given a sweetheart deal to a pedophile," he says in the ad. The case centres on former Waco attorney Adam Hoffman, who faced life without parole on felony charges of continuous sexual abuse of a young child. His trial ended in a mistrial in June 2025, and Paxton's office offered a plea deal and one day in jail. Prosecutors wrote to a state lawmaker that the deal was "a difficult decision" because the boy did not wish to testify again. Hoffman ultimately served 29 days. "There is an infinite number of ways you can say and explain with evidence that this guy is a corrupt loser," a Democratic strategist close to the campaign said of Paxton. "But this one is so clear, and it gets people's attention, and it's just right in your face on tape, and it just happened." Why now The wave comes at a cultural moment of heightened attention on alleged paedophiles. The recent months saw huge discourse on the so-called Epstein files, with widespread anger over the botched release of the documents surrounding the case by Trump's administration. The heavily redacted files left much to be desired and were slammed for outing information, including compromising pictures of the victims. Additionally, online "pedophile hunter" shows have grown in popularity, building on the QAnon conspiracy theory that claimed Donald Trump was fighting a cabal of pedophile elites. An upcoming movie, "Primetime," starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, host of the defunct NBC show "To Catch a Predator," also contributed to the attention. It follows the 2025 documentary "Predators," which examined the legacy of that programme. One national GOP strategist told NBC that the tactic is less about ideology and more about dragging down an opponent's favourability to keep voters away from the polls. But the strategist also pointed to a wider societal focus, suggesting the ads may be "meeting an American cultural moment", adding, "In a way that's kind of grim." Also read | US midterm elections: Why Zohran Mamdani's influence could become a headache for Democrats and Republicans Kansas, Ohio and Iowa Texas is one of at least six states where more than $10 million has been spent on such ads. Kansas, Ohio and Iowa have seen the most Epstein and paedophilia-related spots in their Senate races. In Kansas, both candidates accuse the other of being soft on child predators. The church later reported Moore to police after a second allegation and barred him from working with children. Hamilton has fought back on air, accusing his opponent, Sen. Roger Marshall, of "lying" and saying his church "reported incidents involving a volunteer to law enforcement and then cut ties with him." His ad also notes that Hamilton "later helped get this predator convicted," pointing to Moore's 2013 conviction. Hamilton is also hitting Marshall for voting against the release of the Epstein files. Last September, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered an amendment to a defence bill ordering the files' release, and nearly every Republican voted to table it. Marshall called the vote a "political stunt." The Senate later passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act by unanimous consent. Iran has "substantially increased" its efforts to target Americans in West Asia and beyond, US Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned on Friday (Oct 23). The warning follows an order this week for non-essential US embassy staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia, amid growing attacks from Yemen's Houthis. Iran has "substantially increased" its efforts to target Americans in the Middle East and beyond, US national intelligence chief Jay Clayton warned on Friday.The warning comes after Washington ordered non-essential US embassy staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia this week, following increasing attacks from Yemen's Houthis.The kingdom has come under near-daily attacks this month from the Iran-backed group, including a strike on Riyadh's international airport that was the kingdom's deadliest in years.

A second polling hoax has rocked the US midterm elections after a firm tracked by top media outlets and political campaigns admitted to completely fabricating its poll results. The case involving Wedgewood Polls threatens to weaken trust in independent pollsters in an already deeply polarised political climate. Political pundits have also warned that fast-evolving AI tools are making it easier to fake results.The matter surfaced earlier this week when polling aggregator FiftyPlusOne contacted Wedgewood as part of an investigation into its surveys. In a statement on X, Wedgewood admitted that "most" of its data was made up. It said the firm had been experimenting to see how easily "an entirely fabricated polling firm" could gain traction and be taken seriously. Its X account has since been taken down.<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/us-midterm-elections-face-second-polling-hoax-from-fake-pollsters-1792820851578">Read more</a>

US President Donald Trump on Friday (Oct 23) said American warships returning from the Middle East could make a stopover in Cuba once they return from the Iran war. Speaking at an election campaign event for the midterms in Florida, Trump ominously said, "We'll take care of Cuba on our way back from Iran. Those beautiful ships, they'll pass Cuba. We'll have one of them stop about 50 yards off the coast. They'll raise up their hands, and then we're gonna send Marco Rubio in."<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/trump-threatens-cuba-with-us-warships-stopover-as-rubio-calls-on-cubans-to-become-cia-informants-us-ready-to-take-over-havana-1792808257345">Read more</a>

A second polling hoax has rocked the US midterm elections after a firm tracked by top media outlets and political campaigns admitted to completely fabricating its poll results. The case involving Wedgewood Polls threatens to weaken trust in independent pollsters in an already deeply polarised political climate. Political pundits have also warned that fast-evolving AI tools are making it easier to fake results. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake off Vanuatu triggered a tsunami warning on Saturday (Oct 24), the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said. "Based on the preliminary earthquake parameters... hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 KM of the earthquake epicenter," the Hawaii-based monitor warned after the shallow quake in waters around the island nation of Vanuatu. The quake, with a magnitude of 7.2, had an origin time of 0231 UTC on October 24, 2026, at coordinates 13.8 degrees south, 165.7 degrees east. Its depth was 10 km (6 miles), in the Vanuatu region. It's epicentre was around 200 kilometres (124 miles) north-west of Vanuatu's Port-Olry, according to geological monitor USGS which later revised the magnitude of the tremor down to 6.9. It also reported a second quake of magnitude 6.3 nearby. US intelligence has found that Iran has ‘substantially increased’ its efforts to target American diplomats and officials in the Middle East and beyond, with lethal plots reaching ‘advanced stages’, according to an October 23 memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio obtained by Axios. The intelligence has raised concerns among US officials about potential threats to American personnel and is one reason the State Department is reducing staffing at several US embassies across the Middle East amid fears of a wider regional conflict. Stay with us for the latest news, breaking updates and developments as they unfold.
