During the hearing, Lai' lawyer Robert Pang argued that the charges should be dropped as the prosecution did not lay them&nbsp;within six months of the alleged crime. But the court rejected the argument along with&nbsp;the bid to&nbsp;drop&nbsp;charges saying that Lai's&nbsp;was&nbsp;"a continuing offense and therefore the time limitation did not start to run until after the last date of the alleged conspiracy".</p>

<p>"The court ruled that the prosecution of the sedition charge against the defendants was not time-barred," the judges said in a summary of their judgment as reported by AFP.</p>

<p>"Therefore, the Court had jurisdiction to try the defendants on the sedition charge."</p>

<p>Lai has been charged with conspiracy to publish seditious publications under a law that dates back to Hong Kong's colonial past.</p>

<p>Security camera footage on Belgian news media showed a brightly lit 20-metre (66 ft) high Christmas tree slowly leaning over, then collapsing next to a Christmas market on Thursday as a merry-go-round turned in the historic town square.</p>

<p>A spokesman for the Oost-Vlaanderen province prosecutor said the victim was 63-year old woman from Oudenaarde. Two women from the same town were lightly injured in the incident.</p>

<p>"The investigation will focus on whether the tree had been properly secured and will also look at the impact of the weather," he said.</p>

<p>Storm Pia, which disrupted traffic in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands on Thursday, also hit western Belgium, where the weather service issued a yellow code warning for the coastal areas.</p>

<p>The storm also caused a death in the Netherlands where a woman died of her injuries on Friday after she was hit by a falling tree on Thursday, her employer healthcare organisation ZoZijn said.</p>

<p>China has developed a camouflage veil, what is now being dubbed the "golden veil", and it is set to revolutionise warfare, turning deadly missiles into inconspicuous passenger planes on radar screens, media reports said.</p>

<p>This fascinating veil was developed by a team of Chinese scientists and reportedly has the potential to alter the entire dynamics of conflicts. In a recent publication in the Chinese Journal of Radio Science, Zong Yali and her colleagues revealed that the veil, composed of fine gold-plated metal threads intricately woven into a complex geometry, can deceive sophisticated air defence systems.</p>

<p>The technology, developed in northwest China, not only confuses radar signals but also shortens the response time for military commanders, something that will play a major role in affecting the outcome of the conflict itself.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Zong, an associate professor of radar science at Northwestern Polytechnical University, while pointing at the Laboratory testing, explained that the technology can also significantly amplify the radar of a flying target from less than one to over 30 decibels per square metre, media reports said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This level of radar reflection is comparable to that of large commercial airplanes like the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 when viewed from specific angles, placing China a notch up by boosting its defence capabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A towage vessel from the civil rescue company Esvagt was then sent which was scheduled to arrive at the ship around 2230 GMT.</p>

<p>The ship is now being steered manually from the engine room, it can however not navigate.</p>

<p>Esvagt support vessels had then arrived at the spot to help the ship navigate until it could be dragged to the port.</p>

<p>"I don't think there is any danger to the ship now. If the captain thought so, he would have asked to be evacuated which he hasn't," the rescue centre spokesperson said.</p>

<p>The area was on Thursday hit by a storm with hurricane-force gusts blowing from the northwest which the Danish Meteorological Institute said would continue on Friday as well.</p>

<p>Initial reports suggest that David Kozak lived in a village almost 20 km outside&nbsp;Prague and had been pursuing his master's degree in Polish history at the same university.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kozak had no prior criminal record but on the day of the shooting, he left his home for Prague, saying "he wanted to kill himself", according to&nbsp;Police Chief Martin Vondrasek.</p>

<p>Vondrasek told reporters that the shooter had a "huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition".&nbsp;Kozak is suspected of killing his father prior to the mass shooting. He is also believed to have killed another man and his two-month-old daughter on December 15 in Prague.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing an inquiry into the student's social media activities, Vondrasek said the gunman was inspired by a "similar case that happened in Russia", without providing further details.</p>

<p>Kozak had been planning the university shooting on the messaging app Telegram, often using it as his 'diary' to chronicle his life as well as his murderous schemes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I want to do school shooting and possibly suicide," he wrote in a post, as per the Telegraph, adding, "I always wanted to kill. I thought I would become a maniac in the future."</p>
