The US on Saturday (Feb 17) conducted strikes against Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles and vessels.&nbsp;The strikes targeted an&nbsp;unmanned underwater vessel reportedly used by the Iranian-backed rebel group for the first time since the attacks in the Red Sea began.&nbsp;

"This is the first observed Houthi employment of a UUV since attacks began on Oct. 23," CENTCOM said in a post on X.&nbsp;

CENTCOM said that five strikes carried out by the US were against three anti-ship cruise missiles, one unmanned underwater vessel and one unmanned surface vessel between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm (local time) on Saturday.&nbsp;

In a statement Sunday, the Central Command said: "CENTCOM identified the anti-ship cruise missiles, unmanned underwater vessel, and the unmanned surface vessel in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined they presented an imminent threat to U.S. Navy ships and merchant vessels in the region."&nbsp;

The Houthi attacks in the Red Sea area are one of the signs which suggest that the Israel-Hamas war has been spreading.&nbsp;

Israel declares Brazilian President Lula ‘persona non grata’ over his ‘antisemitic’ comments

Police said that an early Monday morning shooting at a Waffle House in Indianapolis, US, killed one person and left several others injured. As per the local report, one is said to be in critical condition.&nbsp;

Authorities responded to the shooting incident at about 12:40 am (local time) to a report of a person being shot. When the officials arrived at the scene, they found people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.&nbsp;

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital and an adult female reportedly died from her injuries at an area hospital. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the other victims were three men and a woman. Their condition was reported to be stable.&nbsp;

"At least one handgun was recovered on the scene of the Waffle House. Another gun was recovered from the car at Methodist Hospital," he added.&nbsp;

Weilhammer said that the police have had numerous people who acted as witnesses. But the police also believe there were "several that were either at the Speedway gas station behind us or at the Waffle House that left the scene prior to our arrival".&nbsp;

Weilhammer said, "We're hoping they’ll be willing to come forward and give us information."&nbsp;

As quoted by local reports, Captain Don Weilhammer with IMPD said, "What preliminary [information] we have is this was a disturbance which turned into a fight between two groups of people." "At least one handgun was recovered on the scene of the Waffle House. Another gun was recovered from the car at Methodist Hospital," he added. The double defeat underlined the flagging fortunes of the governing party and will do little to silence Sunak's critics, who fear the Conservatives could be trounced at the national election and want him to change course.

The 43-year-old former investment banker has struggled to restore his party's fortunes despite recasting himself at various points over the past year as a bold reformer, a stable technocrat and now as someone who needs more time "to stick to the plan" because, he says, that plan is working.

But with the Labour Party ahead in the polls, Sunak might feel the need to bend to the demands of some in his party to offer an increasingly disaffected electorate a more right-wing conservative agenda before the election.

Labour was jubilant.

"By winning in these Tory strongholds, we can confidently say that Labour is back in the service of working people and we will work tirelessly to deliver for them," Labour leader Keir Starmer said in a statement.

"The Tories (Conservatives) have failed. Rishi's recession proves that. That's why we've seen so many former Conservative voters switching directly to this changed Labour Party."

Labour overturned a hefty Conservative majority in the central English town of Wellingborough to win the parliamentary seat with 13,844 votes against 7,408 in what polling expert John Curtice described as the governing party's "worst ever by-election reverse."

In another threat to Sunak's party, the candidate for the right-wing Reform Party won 3,919 votes, a sign, Curtice said, it had "now entered the electoral battle in a serious way ... that potentially adds to the Conservatives' difficulties".

Addressing that threat, Conservative Party Chairman Richard Holden told Times Radio a vote for Reform was a vote for Labour.

"I don't think what we're seeing is that big switch to Labour ... but I think you are seeing Conservative voters, not at this stage willing to come out at the moment and support the government."

In Kingswood, southwestern England, Labour won with 11,176 votes against 8,675 for the Conservative candidate. Reform received 2,578 votes.

It appeared that the Conservatives had all but written off the two by-elections. While Labour sent many of its lawmakers and activists to campaign in both places, the Conservatives had a muted presence.
