Ensure that your operating system, drivers, and software applications are up to date. Updates often include performance improvements, bug fixes, and security patches.

Disable unnecessary programs from starting up with your computer. Many applications set themselves to start automatically, which can slow down your boot time.

Regularly clean up your hard drive by removing unnecessary files. Use the built-in disk cleanup tools on Windows or Disk Utility on Mac to delete temporary files, system caches, and other unnecessary data.

If your computer is still sluggish after software optimisations, consider upgrading its hardware components. Adding more RAM or replacing an aging graphics card can significantly improve performance.

Protect your computer from malware and viruses by regularly running antivirus and anti-malware scans. Malicious software can slow down your system and compromise your data.

When Sports Brought World Leaders Together

The exchange of table tennis between players of the United States and China in the early 1970s is deemed to have helped US to establish ties with People’s Republic of China. The 'ping-pong diplomacy' as it was called, paved the way for the US President Richard Nixon’s visit to Beijing in 1972, one of the most consequential geopolitical events of twentieth century.

The Pakistan cricket team was on India tour when its military ruler Zia ul Haq came to Jaipur to watch a Test match. His visit eased tensions between two foes as they withdrew thousands of troops from forward positions to avoid what appeared to be an impending war.

Dmitry Medvedev and Dr Manmohan Singh (2008)

India’s Viswanathan Anand became Chess world champion after defeating Russia’s Vladimir Kramnik in October 2008. Anand’s champion moment came right after India and the US signed landmark nuclear deal which raised a few eyebrows in Moscow. A year later, when Delhi and Moscow signed civil nuclear agreement, Anand’s win reportedly surfaced in the talks between Medvedev and Singh, rejuvenating a historic sense of people-to-people ties between India and Russia.

Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese (2023)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart celebrated 75 years of India-Australia ties during an inaugural Test match played in Ahmedabad in March 2023.

From Nixon and Mao to Modi and Albanese, sports has often glued diplomatic efforts for resumption, restoration or rejuvenation of bilateral ties.

The Beatles on Top: Enduring Legacy Across Generations

Over half-a-century after the band broke up, its new AI-powered song “Now and Then” has debuted to reach the top of Billboard’s digital sales ranking.

The devotion of the fans of the band bordered on being religious. Concertgoers often wet their seats or fainted. This was Beatlemania.

The reaction of band’s teenage fans to songs such as “Baby You Can Drive My Car” often showed a retaliation to sexual repressiveness.

The Beatles also revolutionised what it meant to be a young man. Their public imagery defied the mystique of masculinity unlike early rock and rollers such as Jerry Lee Lewis.

They were ‘More Popular Than Jesus’

When John Lennon told a journalist in 1966 that the Beatles were ‘more popular than Jesus’, it led to massive conservative backlash, and eventually to Lennon's assassination in 1980.

Nearly Half of the Beatles Listeners are 18 to 29-year-olds

Forbes reported in 2021 that 18-to-29-year-olds represent 47 per cent of the listeners of the Beatles’ billions of streamed songs. That’s how their fandom goes across generations.

Five Ways Climate Crisis Imperils Human Security Globally

Extreme weather events such as hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and droughts can displace communities, destroy infrastructure, and disrupt access to basic resources.

Changes in climate patterns can lead to altered precipitation, affecting agriculture and water availability. Crop failures and water scarcity can result in food shortages.

As global temperatures rise, polar ice caps and glaciers melt, causing sea levels to rise. This poses a direct threat to low-lying coastal areas.

Climate-induced environmental changes can force communities to migrate in search of better living conditions. This mass movement of people can strain resources in receiving areas.

The climate crisis exacerbates competition for scarce resources such as water, arable land, and energy. This competition can trigger conflicts between communities or even nations.
