10 Reasons Why Humans Living on Mars is a Bad Idea

In an interview, he gave five reasons why he is against sending humans to Mars. We've included five more reasons why it might be a bad idea.

Let's take a look.

Space is fascinating. Living on Mars, an alien planet is an enthralling notion. But is it really a good idea?

"We can't even take care of this planet where we live," said Nye, "and we're perfectly suited for it, let alone another planet."

Bill said that Humans aren't living in Antarctica, and remarked "nobody's gonna go settle on Mars to raise a family and have generations of Martians."

On Mars, temperatures can reach up to 70°F (20°C) in some places, but most of the time the planet is much colder, and well below zero degrees.

"There is hardly any water," said the scientist.

Food can be grown on Mars but as per Dr Christopher Guppy, Associate Professor in Soil Fertility, "without the protective influence of a thick atmosphere, the radiation from the sun would mutate and damage the crops if grown on the surface".

Oxygen is lacking
"And the big thing, I just remind these guys," said Nye, "There's nothing to breathe."

The barren planet is known for its dust storms that can last for weeks or months. They can alter the temperatures drastically.

Earth's atmosphere provides a natural shield against cosmic radiation. In contrast, Mars has a much thinner atmosphere.

Mars lacks strong gravity something we take for granted on Earth. In the long run it might adversely effect our bodies.

As per Pascal Lee, a planetary scientist at NASA's Ames Research Center, "If you are unprotected on Mars … your blood would boil, even at ambient temperature."

9 Accidental Discoveries That Changed the World

In 1928, Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin by accident when he observed that a mould had contaminated one of his Petri dishes, killing the bacteria growing on it. This led to the development of antibiotics that have saved countless lives.

In 1895, German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen was experimenting with cathode rays when he noticed that a screen coated with a fluorescent material glowed even when he placed objects between it and the cathode ray tube. He discovered that he had created a new kind of ray, which he called X-rays, and won the Nobel Prize for his discovery.

In 1945, Percy Spencer, an engineer working for the Raytheon Corporation, noticed that a candy bar in his pocket had melted while he was testing a radar system. He realized that the microwaves emitted by the radar had caused the candy bar to melt, leading to the invention of the microwave oven.

In 1938, chemist Roy Plunkett was experimenting with gases used in refrigeration when he discovered a new substance that was resistant to heat and chemicals. This substance became known as Teflon and is now used in a wide range of applications, from non-stick cookware to aerospace engineering.

In 1943, Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann was working on a project to synthesize new medications when he accidentally ingested a small amount of a compound he had created called lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). He experienced vivid hallucinations and thus, the drug was introduced as a recreational drug.

In the 1990s, scientists at Pfizer were developing a new drug to treat heart disease when they discovered that one of the side effects was causing male patients to experience erections. This led to the development of Viagra, a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction.

In 1950, electrical engineer John Hopps was working on a machine to monitor heart rate when he discovered that an electrical pulse could be used to regulate the heart. This led to the development of the pacemaker, which has saved countless lives by regulating abnormal heart rhythms.

In 1941, Swiss engineer George de Mestral was out hunting when he noticed that burrs from plants were sticking to his clothes and his dog's fur. He examined the burrs under a microscope and discovered that they had tiny hooks that allowed them to stick to the fabric. This led to the invention of Velcro, a fastener that is now used in a wide range of applications.

Scientists are aware of how cats purr but they still can't find the answer to why cats purr. One of the more surprising explanations is that cats don’t just purr when they are happy and relaxed, they also purr when they are in pain. But this is not proven to date.

Scientists are not sure why we yawn and that too daily. The scientific community has moved toward the idea that yawning is a thermoregulatory behaviour that cools down the brain, but its true biological function is still unclear.

How does a tomato has more genes than a human?

Yes, tomatoes have more genes than humans. Tomato may not look as complex as a human but it takes around 7000 more genes to make one than it does a human being. It has some explanations but none of them are proven yet.

There is no cure for Alzheimer’s, a disease that causes dementia. For years, the prevailing theory has been that Alzheimer’s is caused by pile-ups of proteins which effectively create plaques in the brain.

Many species of birds migrate over incredibly long distances in order to lay their eggs or escape harsh winters. Scientific theories that birds use the stars or Earth’s magnetic field to navigate, fail to cover how it is possible for birds to locate the exact coordinates of an area, without ever having visited them before.

The brain is an incredibly powerful thing, and scientists are only beginning to touch the tip of the iceberg. One of the things they can’t explain is this placebo effect, which not only works for pills but also, incredibly, for surgery.

It’s widely accepted that the reason ice is so slippery is due to a thin film of liquid on its surface. The mystery is why this layer forms at all. Recent studies suggest that surface ice does not fully transform into liquid water, but instead ends up in a mixed state between ice and water.

9 Most Dangerous Animals that are Extinct now

The Meg was one of the biggest marine animals ever to prowl the ocean, reaching lengths of up to 60 feet and weights of over 50 tonnes. This was truly the devil of the seas.

The next on the list is "mighty mosasaurus”, a fearsome extinct predator with a six-foot skull and 250 teeth. This ancient crocodile was 56 feet long and weighed a hefty 30,000 pounds. It lived from about 82 to 66 million years ago.

The Smilodon, or Saber-toothed Tiger, was a huge predatory cat that lived during the Pleistocene era and roamed North and South America. It had a powerful jaw and long canine teeth, which were used to take down enormous prey like horses, bison, and even mammoths.

A huge pterosaur known as Quetzalcoatlus flourished in the Late Cretaceous era. It is believed to have been among the largest creatures to ever fly. The wingspan of this pterosaur may have been as broad as 10 to 11 metres. It used to exist 65 million years ago.

A species of large constrictor snake was called a Titanoboa. The largest species was Titanoboa cerrejoninsis, though there were other species as well. Palaeontologists estimate that it had 250 vertebrae and that it could grow as long as 42 feet. It existed 60 million years ago.

The Helicoprion was a fearsome jawed predator that lived from the early Permian Period until the early Triassic Period. It is thought to have had a curving, spiral-shaped jaw with several hundred teeth that might extend up to three metres in length.

Consider a 6-feet long scorpion with a body shaped like a paddle that is used for swimming. The pentecopterus decorahensis existed about 460 million years ago. It was first discovered in 2015.

A hazardous species of extinct bear known as Arcdotus lived during the last ice age up to 11,000 years ago. This rapacious predator roamed in North America, eating wild horses, deer, and even enormous sloths.

This lethal extinct animal was a 30-pound raptor that existed until the 1400s native to South Island in New Zealand. The Maori people tell tales of Haast's eagles snatching kids, their natural prey, before the moa bird was hunted to extinction.

Here is the list of 9 of the most hazardous extinct animals that have ever roamed the earth. We are so glad they don’t exist now

Amazing discoveries of pyramids, temples, forgotten cities and rare fossils have been made over the past couple of decades.

It’s not an eel at all but is a type of knife fish. It has been given this name due to its snake-like appearance.

This creature looks totally different from the actual black-and-white Panda. The weasel, raccoon, and skunk are the Himalayan omnivore's nearest relatives, and it belongs to its own family (Ailuridae).

Orcinus orca, also known as the killer whale and the blackfish, is neither a whale nor a fish, it’s a dolphin.

There is no such thing as an American buffalo because they are actually bison.

This thing can’t fly. Additionally, the flying lemur is a totally distinct and biologically unrelated creature, not a lemur.

Australia's dozing, the eucalyptus-chomping marsupial is not actually a bear. The only thing common between a Koala bear and a bear is that they both are mammals.

Seahorse: Any of the 54 species of marine fish in the genus Hippocampus is generally referred to as a seahorse. This is amongst the most misleading names in the animal kingdom.

Our beautiful planet Earth is full of wonderful creatures, including those who have misleading names. Let’s have a look at some of those.

These 5 planets will align in the sky, here’s how to spot them

Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus and Mars will align in the sky on March 28. It’s the best opportunity to spot them with the naked eye.

Right after the sunset. Viewing time will be short. Planets will be seen parading within 25 to 30 minutes of the sunset. Mars and Jupiter will be visible to our naked eye.

Spotting Mercury and Uranus with the naked eye might not be an easy job. So, you better grab binoculars or a telescope for a better and clear view.

The five planets will be aligned in an arc form. This is a rare cosmic spectacle. If you miss this time, you will get the next chance on September 8, 2040

As per experts, these rare sights occur when the planets are on the same side of the sun.

One such event occurred last year as well. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn aligned in a rare order last June for the first time since December 2004.

Get ready for the planetary parade on March 27 where Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Uranus will be seen marching across the sky.

Fierce debates revolve around the theories of Black holes, one of the most fascinating objects in the universe. However, we have compiled the most bizarre theories around Black Holes that'll blow your mind.

Scientists described the first-ever photo of a black hole released in 2019 as a monster because of its humongous size. The image depicts an intensely bright ring of fire, according to the researchers.

Nothing can escape the black hole once it gets extremely near to the edge. The mysterious objects are surrounded by a build-up of gas and dust, circling the holes like water going down the drain.

Scientists from the Imperial College of London revealed that objects might be the source of unknown energy or Dark energy. Black Holes gain mass in a way that is constant with them containing vacuum energy, according to another research.

In a recent study, researchers suggested that there may be a way out through the centre of the black hole. According to the theory, anything travelling through the black hole would stretch inside the black hole, but return to normal when it emerges in a different region.

According to Professor Stephen Hawking, black holes were not eternal prisons. A year later, he expanded his story, which stated that the answer lies in the zero-energy particles or 'soft hair' on the black hole's horizon.

We have compiled the most bizarre theories around Black Holes that'll blow your mind.
