The Beginning of NASA

NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, began operations on October 1, 1958, when U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act.

Apollo Missions

NASA launched six Apollo missions that landed on the moon. They are Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17. However, Apollo 13 lunar landing got cancelled after the oxygen tank exploded.

Charlie Brown & Snoopy

The name of the Apollo 10 command module is ‘Charlie Brown’ and the lunar module is ‘Snoopy.’ The personal safety mascot for astronauts is the Peanuts Comic Strip character Snoopy. Being a cartoon lover, NASA named its two satellites "Tom" and "Jerry."

NASA suits cost $12 million

While the entire suit costs $12 million, 70% of that cost is for the backpack and control module. However, NASA still uses spacesuits built in 1974.

First person on Moon

 Neil Armstrong, the first person to step foot on the moon, almost didn’t make it to NASA as his application was too late.

Third Person on Moon

The third person to walk on the moon was Charles "Pete" Conrad, who stepped down to the surface of our rocky satellite in 1969.
