The White House says President Donald Trump previously offered Iran a deal that included a joint civilian nuclear programme backed by American investment.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the proposal would have allowed Iran to develop peaceful nuclear energy with US support, including fuel supply and sanctions relief. In return, Tehran would have been required to permanently dismantle its uranium enrichment infrastructure
