The United States military says it has destroyed 16 Iranian mine-laying boats in the Strait of Hormuz. The action targeted vessels believed to be capable of deploying naval mines in the strategic waterway.
The U.S. military said the operation was aimed at protecting commercial shipping and preventing threats to maritime traffic passing through the strait. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, carrying a major share of global oil and LNG shipments.
