The US military has cancelled a major training exercise involving the headquarters element of the elite 82nd Airborne Division. The unit had been scheduled to take part in the exercise but was instead told to remain at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
The sudden cancellation has fuelled speculation within the Pentagon that the unit could be preparing for potential deployment to the Middle East as the conflict with Iran escalates.
