UK targets Apple & Google app stores with major payment rule overhaul

Britain's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed major reforms that could reshape how Apple and Google operate their app stores in the UK. The regulator wants developers to be allowed to direct users to alternative payment methods outside Apple's App Store and Google Play, potentially reducing commission fees and boosting competition.
The proposals could also pave the way for UK fintech firms to build rival digital wallets on Apple's iPhone ecosystem. If implemented, the changes would mark one of the biggest regulatory challenges yet to Apple and Google's control over mobile app payments.
