Taliban Frees U.S. Citizen After 9 Months in Captivity, Rubio Praises the Release

An American citizen, Amir Amiri, has been released by the Taliban after nearly nine months of detention in Afghanistan. The release was secured through extensive mediation efforts led by Qatari diplomats. Amiri was detained in December 2024 and was on his way back to the United States following his release.
