The Sabarimala gold plating scandal has triggered a high-level judicial probe after the Kerala High Court flagged serious lapses in how sacred temple ornaments were handled and repaired.
The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) sent gold-plated copper idols to a private Chennai firm without prior court approval—violating earlier orders. A loss of 4.54 kg of gold was discovered upon return, with no proper documentation or oversight. The court has now ordered the valuables be returned and a full audit conducted.
