Oscar-winning Filmmaker Flees Russia, Smuggles Footage; Russia Brands Him a “Foreign Agent”
Russia has designated Pavel Talankin, a teacher and co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary "Mr. Nobody Against Putin," as a "foreign agent" following his exposure of pro-war propaganda in Russian schools. Talankin secretly filmed inside a Chelyabinsk school for two years before fleeing in 2024. The film recently won the 2026 Oscar for Best Documentary.
