Indian Government Announces 8th Pay Commission Pane
The Union Cabinet has finalized the formation of the Eighth Central Pay Commission, appointing former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai as chairperson. IIM-Bangalore professor Pulak Ghosh and Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain will serve as members. The panel will submit its report in 18 months, impacting nearly 50 lakh government employees and 69 lakh pensioners. The new pay structure is expected to roll out from January 2026
