Cannes Exclusive: Filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh on restoring Shyam Benegal’s Manthan

Indian classic film Manthan has been selected for showcase at Cannes Film Festival 2024 in the Cannes Classics segment. The Shyam Benegal film, India’s first crowdfunded film, tells the story of India’s White Revolution that started in a village in Gujarat and of the man behind it, Dr Verghese Kurien, who made it possible. Talking to WION’s Zeba Khan, filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, founder and director of the Film Heritage Foundation, spoke of the proud moment when Manthan got selected for Cannes after the Foundation restored the iconic 1976 film.
