One of the largest and most complete fossils of a dinosaur species is expected to fetch a whopping amount of $6 million at the Sotheby's "Geek Week" auction this summer.

The "virtually complete" fossil of Stegosaurus stands tall at 11ft (3.4 metres) with a length of more than 20ft.&nbsp;

Nicknamed "Apex", it is 30 per cent larger than "Sophie", the previous record holder stegosaurus specimen&nbsp;which was on display in London’s Natural History Museum.

Apex is being termed as an "incredibly important milestone" achieved in the world of fossils, said Cassandra Hatton, the global head of science at Sotheby’s.

“Stegosaurus is one of the most universally recognisable dinosaur species, whose unmistakable silhouette has been a source of fascination and wonder for generations," said Hatton.&nbsp;

With an auction estimate of $4-$6 million, Apex may become one of the most valuable dinosaur fossils ever sold at auction. The record is held by Stan,&nbsp;a T rex skeleton auctioned off by Christie’s for $31.8 million in 2020.

Apex was discovered by Jason Cooper, a commercial palaeontologist, who&nbsp;found the remains of the dinosaur species in the&nbsp;Morrison Formation, in Moffat County, Colorado, near&nbsp;the town of Dinosaur, in May 2022.

A book borrowed decades ago has been returned to the Helsinki Library after 84 years.&nbsp;

The book, a Finnish translation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s historical novel Refugees was received by librarian Heini Strand on Monday at the Helsinki Central Library Oodi.

“The due date of the loan was 26 December 1939,” Strand said, adding that she had never received a book so long overdue.

Generally, these kinds of long dues of books happen when the borrower of the book passes away and the book is returned by their relatives decades later.

“People want to do the right thing and return the book that is the library’s property … I think that is lovely,” said Strand.

The library was unable to find the relationship between the person who happily returned the book and the original borrower.

If you ruffle through the pages of history books, you will find that in November 1939, the Soviet Union invaded Finland, three months after the outbreak of World War II. The invasion ended three and a half months later with the Moscow Peace Treaty on 13 March 1940.

A likely explanation for the delayed return was that the due date fell a month after the Soviet Union invaded&nbsp;Finland, Strand noted.&nbsp;

“The return of the book might not have been the first thing on the borrower’s mind when the due date approached.”

The&nbsp;Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union (also known as the Russo-Finnish War) lasted until March 1940, when a peace treaty was signed, forcing Finland to make significant land cessions.

The book by the British author is a historical novel published in 1893 and set in 17th-century France.

According to Strand, the library may make the book, an edition published in 1925, available to the public again since it was received in such good condition.

A likely explanation for the delayed return was that the due date fell a month after the Soviet Union invaded Finland, Strand noted. “The return of the book might not have been the first thing on the borrower’s mind when the due date approached.” The Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union (also known as the Russo-Finnish War) lasted until March 1940, when a peace treaty was signed, forcing Finland to make significant land cessions. The latest report of the team on the new discoveries was&nbsp;published&nbsp;in the Pompeii Sites’ e-journal. Among these discoveries, what stood out for archaeologists was the frescoes of ancient gladiators.&nbsp;

<h2>Archaeologists decode child-drawn frescoes</h2>

As per the experts, it is believed that the children drew the sketches of gladiators on the walls after watching their battles at the amphitheatre of Pompeii.

The charcoal frescoes were discovered during excavations at I’Insula dei Casti Amanti, which is a group of homes located in Pompeii’s archaeological park which was opened for the public for the first time on Tuesday (May 28).

Meanwhile, other frescoes made on a long wall included the outline of three small hands, a hunting scene of an animal which looked like a boar, two people playing with a ball and two boxers lying on the ground.

“Together with psychologists from the Federico II [university of Naples], we have come to the conclusion that the drawings of gladiators and hunters were made based on a direct vision, and not of pictorial models. They had probably witnessed battles in the amphitheatre, thus coming into contact with an extreme form of spectacularised violence," he said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano said: “More and more, Pompeii is revealing wonderful new discoveries that confirm [the site] as an extraordinary treasure chest.”

The first excavations in Pompeii ruins started in 1748 and it is the world's second most visited archaeological site.

Orcas crashing into boats and sinking them in the Strait of Gibraltar may just be young killer whales playing around and following a behavioural trend, a marine biologist says.

Since May 2020 researchers have documented nearly 700 incidents of killer whales ramming into boats near the Iberian Peninsula.

The unprecedented attacks on boats by killer whales in this region have left sailors and scientists baffled. The prevailing theory suggests the whales might be learning this behaviour from each other.

Theories trying to explain the odd behaviour have ranged from food shortage – orcas treating the boats as competition for their preferred prey – and the sudden resumption of marine activities after the pandemic.

Leading marine biologist Alex Zerbini, chair of the scientific committee at the International Whaling Commission (IWC), says the killer whale behaviour is most likely to be a new artistic practice without any purpose.

In other words, the orcas may just be following a new fad, scientists now suspect.

The marine biologists’ paper states, “different populations often have different dietary specialisations maintained by cultural communication, and these ‘ecotypes’ typically have a variety of persistent behavioural traditions related to their divergent foraging.”&nbsp;

“Some populations may also develop unusual and temporary behavioural ‘fads’ and other idiosyncrasies that do not appear to serve any obvious adaptive purpose.”

Interestingly, researchers point to a 1987 phenomenon in the South Pacific where young orcas began carrying dead salmon on their heads.&nbsp;

This curious behaviour, with no purpose, eventually spread throughout the entire population. This particular behaviour disappeared soon thereafter, only to return in the summer of 2008 and then disappear once more.

In another case of strange behaviour that appeared and disappeared teenage and adult male orcas have been documented exhibiting a ritualised ramming.

Recent encounters with damaged boats involve young whales, who appear curious and approach slowly, seemingly bumping rudders with their snouts.

“This behaviour of the animals does&nbsp;not suggest&nbsp;that they are being aggressive,” Dr Zerbini told The Washington Post.

“Not all interactions have ended in vessel damage,” the scientists said.

Recent encounters with damaged boats involve young whales, who appear curious and approach slowly, seemingly bumping rudders with their snouts. “This behaviour of the animals does not suggest that they are being aggressive,” Dr Zerbini told The Washington Post. “Not all interactions have ended in vessel damage,” the scientists said. He added, “I recovered around 35 snakes crawling from a newly constructed toilet of the house. Later, I released the snakes&nbsp;in the Joisagar Dalani area.”

According to a report by India Today NE, Deka said there was little cause for alarm after he identified the hatchlings. He noted that the snake had laid eggs in the bathroom which had hatched.&nbsp;

The man got suspicious about the bride 12 days after the wedding as he observed that she did not communicate with his family and wore her veiled attire even at home. The footage shows the lioness walking away with the helpless pet between its teeth. The dog named Jaci, along with her littermate, Laser, had been with the family for nearly two years, reported The Mirror.&nbsp;

“It didn’t even take 10 minutes. Just like that, we lost our dog,” Sylvia Wamai, the pet owner, told BBC.&nbsp;

The lioness, according to the timestamp on the CCTV footage, was roaming in the area at around 9:59 pm (local time).&nbsp;

According to media reports, residents of Elmeut Estate in&nbsp;Ongata Rongai have also reported cases of their dogs going missing.&nbsp;

The terrified residents have reportedly called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to take action and cage the animal.&nbsp;

<h2>About Ace-Liam’s journey and process</h2>

His mother Chantelle, who is also an artist, told the GWR that she discovered her son’s passion for painting when he was just six months old.

“While learning to crawl, I spread out a piece of unstretched canvas on the floor and dropped some paint on it as a way to keep him busy while I worked on a commission painting,” she explained.&nbsp;

Subsequently, Ace-Liam ended up “spreading the paint all over the canvas” and created his first masterpiece titled ‘The crawl’ said his mother. She added, “It was clear that he found a lot of joy in it.”

Since then the toddler had&nbsp;garnered a lot of attention including that of the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana. “He has created a buzz and heightened the conversation about art appreciation,” said Chantelle.&nbsp;

Ace-Liam participated in his first group exhibition, The Soundout Premium Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Technology in Ghana with more than 20 of his paintings.&nbsp;

A total of 10 of his artworks were displayed and up for sale out of which nine were sold during the exhibition.

She also spoke about his process and how the one-year-old loves the feel of the paint on his hands and expressing himself through painting.&nbsp;

“It’s a fun and creative outlet for him, and he enjoys the freedom to explore and create without limitations,” Chantelle told the GWR.&nbsp;

Even after he started talking, his mother said he would ask if he could paint. She also explained that her son’s work is more about expression and exploration rather than conveying specific messages.

She also advised parents to encourage and support their child’s interests. “Every child is unique, and nurturing their passions can lead to amazing discoveries and achievements.”

Upon this, the woman told the police, he (the priest) "became upset and tried to ram the 'cookie' in her mouth".

She then tried to grab another Communion bread, but the priest grabbed her and bit her arm.&nbsp;

The diocese contends that "Father Rodriguez offered the woman Holy Communion on the tongue. At that point, the woman forcefully placed her hand in the vessel and grabbed some sacred Communion hosts, crushing them."

"Having only one hand free, Father Rodriguez struggled to restrain the woman as she refused to let go of the hosts. When the woman pushed him and reacting to a perceived act of aggression, Father Rodriguez bit her hand so she would let go of the hosts she grabbed," it adds.
