But what's troubling is how some of these are tinged with communalism and racism, particularly as some former cricketers have turned themselves into ultra-orthodox spokespersons of their religion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

I think the malady runs deeper. Pakistan’s whole raison d'etre has been that it is not India, and it has built for itself a world view with grand illusions of being the fortress of Islam and the dreams of being the defender of the faith with what it calls the ‘Islamic Nuclear&nbsp;bomb’.

It today has a prime minister who, as the legend goes, first called a cricket match against India as Jihad and this was in the 1970s and the 80s!

A former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan referenced a 1982 event involving Imran Khan, the current prime minister of Pakistan and former Pakistan cricket captain. Khan was cited as saying that he viewed India-Pakistan cricket matches as a Jihad for Kashmir rather than a game.

The remarks coincided with the times of the first Afghan jihad and the era of Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in Pakistan. It is but a sad coincidence that in 2021, its home minister calls a win in a cricket match as the win of all of Islam, coming in the backdrop of what Pakistan calls the second ‘victorious’ jihad by Taliban Afghanistan.&nbsp;

Cricket has no religion, but who knew it was a crusade of faiths and not about arch rivals matching skills in a sport! That is Pakistan for you.

Pakistan’s bad deeds broke itself and sunk the two-nation theory in the Bay of Bengal in 1971. But Shoaib Akhtar still believes in the two-nation theory.

The real problem with Pakistan is that it can’t dissuade itself from its paranoia about India, can’t break itself away from the self-image of ‘humney to inpey 1000 Saal tak raaz kia hai’ i.e. we (Muslims) have ruled the Hindus for a thousand years. It is sad for a country to refer to history for whom the history lessons in their schoolbooks starts with the first raids of a savage invader called Mohammed bin Qassim.

So that is the context in which I implore you to see these bursts of joy that have seeped out from people, which ideally get stated in the safety of their living rooms or the anonymity of social media.

In what was perhaps the nadir of this shameful display, some Pakistani socail media handles called one of the most loved cricketers in India Mohammed Shami, the architect of many famous Indian wins, a hero and an inspiration to every boy and girl who wants to bowl fast in India, an agent of Pakistan.

I don’t even want to comment on it because it doesn't deserve any further discussion.

I would like to finish with this: every single 'expert' in Pakistan, in spite of lip service siding with Pakistan, almost took it for granted that India would win and that Pakistan would lose.

However, their cricket team, no doubt a talented lot, led by perhaps the best young batsman in the world today, played exceptionally well and defeated India fair and square.

And then, as the Indian saying goes, ‘andhon ke haath bater lag gayi’. Meaning, they were not ready for it, and since they were not prepared to be graceful in victory, they fell back on muscle memory, of bile and venom and just plain hate against India.

And that, my friends, explains what we are seeing.&nbsp;

Waqar Younis, a former Pakistani bowler, came to Twitter to apologise for his communal remark made after Pakistan's victory over India in the T20I World Cup.

Younis stated he enjoyed how Mohammad Rizwan did Namaz in front of Hindus while complimenting him for his performance against India.

Pakistan had lost all on twelve meetings against India (7 in ODI World Cup and 5 in T20 World Cup)&nbsp;before Sunday. However, stellar performances from their bowlers and star batters Mohammad Rizwan, and Babar helped Pakistan attain a historic win at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.

Speaking on a show following the game, former pacer and bowling coach Waqar Younis made a controversial remark while praising Rizwan for his match-winning knock. Waqar said Rizwan 'praying in front of Hindus' impressed him the most and was 'special' for him.

Rizwan was seen praying in the middle of the ground after leading his side to a historic win against India on Sunday. &nbsp;"Sabse achi&nbsp;baat jo Rizwan ne ki. Usne ground mein khade hoke Naamaz padhe, hinduon ke beech mein....So that was really something very very special for me. (What I liked the most is what Rizwan did. He stood in the middle of the ground and read the prayers, in front of the Hindus)," Younis said on Pakistani news channel ARY News.

"I have spoken with the PCB hierarchy about players' finances and managing their workloads as each Test match counts towards the World Test Championship and we have to manage Shaheen's and the other pacers workloads. I am sure the Board is working on this and they will come up with some sort of agreement to help and work with the players," he added.

When asked is their more fast bowlers in the pipeline, Waqar said, "Ehsan Adil is one bowler that I am keeping a close eye on and he is someone who has been bowling well this season, can bat and is a handy fielder too. I have already mentioned some of the group of pace-bowlers we have at our disposal and in addition, Usman Khan Shinwari is an impressive bowler."

"What I am trying to do is to have this group of pace-bowlers and to keep a very close eye on this batch and monitor their progress very closely. We are planning to have another camp for pace-bowlers ahead of the series against Bangladesh and that will also give us another opportunity to look at the pace-bowlers," he added.

After successfully hosting the Test series against Sri Lanka and winning it by 1-0, Waqar termed Pakistan as a safe cricketing nation.

"Pakistan is a safe place and anyone who is saying it's not a safe place is fooling themselves. "Pakistan have got to take positives out of what they did to India in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy a couple of years ago. They must think positively going into this game. I hope they have got their best game in the locker for India, who showed against Australia that they are a very fine side," Waqar, one of the best fast bowlers of his time, said.&nbsp;

According to the former captain and coach, picking up early wickets could be key to Pakistan's chances.

"What I have seen in this World Cup so far is that if you don't pick up early wickets, you're in trouble. The new ball is so crucial and openers are being more careful in the first ten overs this year," said Waqar.

"They're <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/we-need-to-overcome-mistakes-to-beat-india-says-sarfaraz-after-australia-defeat-226683">not really going full throttle</a>, they are being a bit more watchful. Once you don't lose any wickets early on, it becomes easier because the ball doesn't swing and batting becomes easier," Waqar said.

Waqar believes Pakistan were done in by the new ball, in both batting bowling, against Australia on Wednesday.

"It was with the new ball, in both batting and bowling, that I felt Pakistan missed a trick in their entertaining defeat to Australia at Taunton. Early on, we were not really sharp enough and Sarfaraz Ahmed was not on his toes. Mohammad Amir didn't get any support from the other end,"&nbsp;Waqar said.

Returning his best ODI figures of 5/30, Amir staged a fine comeback to stop Australia's charge at 307.

"No-one really saw the comeback coming and for that, you have to take your hat off to Amir. Full marks to him for the way he bowled. Even with the new ball, I thought he bowled quite nicely. He could have picked up more than five wickets in the end. He was unfortunate with a couple of nicks early on," said Waqar.

"Pakistan pulled it back very nicely. They were sharp after 25 overs and started picking up wickets. They found the right lengths," he said.

His praise for <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/mohammad-amir-confessed-to-spot-fixing-after-shahid-afridi-slapped-him-abdul-razzaq-226584">Amir</a>, who was not initially included in Pakistan's World Cup squad, did not end there.

Regarding team combination, Waqar felt there could be changes for Sunday's game.

"It may be that Mickey Arthur looks at changing the team for Sunday. I spoke to Mickey in Taunton and he is thinking in terms of horses for courses, and I agree with him to an extent. The pitch there was good for pacers and he rightly went with four of them. The issue was not the nature of the plan, but the execution,"&nbsp;Waqar said.

"It was with the new ball, in both batting and bowling, that I felt Pakistan missed a trick in their entertaining defeat to Australia at Taunton. Early on, we were not really sharp enough and Sarfaraz Ahmed was not on his toes. Mohammad Amir didn't get any support from the other end," Waqar said. Returning his best ODI figures of 5/30, Amir staged a fine comeback to stop Australia's charge at 307. "No-one really saw the comeback coming and for that, you have to take your hat off to Amir. Full marks to him for the way he bowled. Even with the new ball, I thought he bowled quite nicely. He could have picked up more than five wickets in the end. He was unfortunate with a couple of nicks early on," said Waqar. "Pakistan pulled it back very nicely. They were sharp after 25 overs and started picking up wickets. They found the right lengths," he said. His praise for Amir, who was not initially included in Pakistan's World Cup squad, did not end there. "Amir bowled superbly. He showed us all his cutters, variations and short-pitched deliveries. I think we all know Amir is mentally very, very strong. He showed once again that class is permanent? he is no doubt a match-winner," he added. Regarding team combination, Waqar felt there could be changes for Sunday's game. "It may be that Mickey Arthur looks at changing the team for Sunday. I spoke to Mickey in Taunton and he is thinking in terms of horses for courses, and I agree with him to an extent. The pitch there was good for pacers and he rightly went with four of them. The issue was not the nature of the plan, but the execution," Waqar said. Waqar was in favour of dropping spin-bowling all-rounder Shoaib Malik. "Shadab is the key man in this side and I think they will look to bring him back against India. They might go for five bowlers, use four pacers and Shadab and drop someone like Shoaib Malik," he said. "Going from a defeat to playing the old rivalry against India isn't going to be easy. India probably watched the Australia game very closely and know what needs to be done. Pakistan need to lift themselves up and I hope they bring their best on Sunday," said Waqar.
