She exercised the whole night before her gold medal match, took a sauna, did countless cardio training, and even cut her hair, but failed to cut down on the needed weight, being overweight by 100gms. With that, she got disqualified from her gold medal match.</p>

<p>The Indian grappler even appealed against the IOC’s call at the Court of Arbitration (CAS) for a joint silver medal, but they dismissed it a few days later.</p>

There was no choice left, and from midnight to 5:30 in the morning, she worked on different cardio machines and wrestling moves, about three-quarters of an hour at one go, with two to three minutes of rest. Then she started again. She collapsed, but somehow, we got her up, and she spent an hour in the sauna.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I don’t intentionally write dramatic details, but I only remember thinking that she might die,” he wrote, as quoted by the Indian Express.</p>

<p>As soon as the news broke out that Vinesh failed her second mandatory weigh-in test, leading to her disqualification in the gold medal match, disappointment took over among the million fans in India and worldwide. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Paris has rejected the application submitted by Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat for award of a silver medal in the 50 kilogram women's wrestling competition at the Paris Olympics 2024.

<p>After several delays, the Court of Arbitration for Sports, on Wednesday (Aug 14), dismissed Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's appeal for a joint silver medal at the just-concluded Paris Olympics. Vinesh&nbsp;roared into the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling final bout in the mega event but was disqualified ahead of her gold medal match, versus eventual gold medallist USA's Sarah Hildebrandt,&nbsp;for being marginally overweight of the permissible limit. As she appealed to the CAS, it ruled in favour of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United World Wrestling (UWW).&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, this might not be the end of Vinesh's case. Notably, she might be able to challenge the Swiss court's verdict.</p>

<h2><strong>THE ROAD AHEAD FOR VINESH PHOGAT: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW -</strong></h2>

<p>As per the CAS website, any CAS verdict can be challenged. However, there is a catch.&nbsp;It can be done only on a 'very limited number of grounds'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Judicial recourse to the Swiss Federal Tribunal is allowed on a very limited number of grounds, such as lack of jurisdiction, violation of elementary procedural rules (e.g. violation of the right to a fair hearing) or incompatibility with public policy," the CAS website said.</p>

<h2><strong>REACTIONS POST THE CAS VERDICT</strong></h2>

<p>Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, on Wednesday, expressed her shock and disappointment at the decision of the Sole Arbitrator at the CAS&nbsp;to dismiss the 29-year-old Vinesh's case.</p>

<p>The IOA president,&nbsp;in an official statement, confirmed&nbsp;that the body will seek a legal recourse.</p>

It is a stark reminder of the need for more equitable and reasonable standards that prioritize athletes' well-being," Usha, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president stated.</p>

<p>The IOA further added, "In light of the order of the CAS, the IOA continues to stand in full support of Ms. Phogat and is exploring further legal options. The IOA is committed to ensuring that Vinesh's case is heard. It will continue to advocate justice and fairness in sports, ensuring that the rights and dignity of athletes and everyone in the sports fold are upheld at all times. We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our stakeholders, athletes, and the public."­</p>

<p>As per reports, Vinesh is expected to land in India on Aug 17 (Saturday).</p>

<p>Her comments came when Vinesh and the wrestling contingent awaited the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) verdict over her plea.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After qualifying for the final in the Women’s 50kg Freestyle Wrestling in Paris, Vinesh, on the day of the gold medal match, got disqualified after failing the mandatory weigh-in test in the morning, going overweight by just 100 grams.</p>

<p>She then appealed against this decision at the CAS (for the joint silver medal), with CAS taking time till August 13 before giving their final decision.</p>

<p>The aftermath of this episode turned ugly when a section of Parliament began accusing Dr Pardiwala and his team of negligence; contrary, the former IOA chief Narendra Batra alleged that Vinesh's diet might have led to her disqualification.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She continued saying that each athlete has its support staff, with them working together for several years now, and the IOA-appointed medical team, which came to fruition just a few months ago, was there to help players recover and manage injuries.</p>

<p>“Each Indian athlete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in such sport had his or her own support team. These support teams have been working with the athletes over so many years.</p>

<p>“The IOA appointed a medical team a couple of months ago, primarily as a team that would assist in the recovery and injury management of athletes during and after their competition. This team was also designed to support athletes who did not have their own team of nutritionists and physiotherapists,” PT Usha concluded.</p>
