<p>The entire Indian sports fraternity was in disbelief as soon as the news broke Wednesday but Phogat, while speaking to coaches, called it 'part of the game,' reported news agency PTI.</p>

<p>"It sent a shockwave through the wrestling contingent. The girls were feeling pretty low after the news broke. We met Vinesh and tried to console her. She was brave. She told us, 'it's hard luck that we missed the medal, but it is part of the game'," said Virender Dahiya, India women&nbsp;wrestling national coach, reported PTI.</p>

<p>Indian Olympic contingent's chief physician Dinshaw Pardiwala informed earlier this evening that the support staff did all they could to bring the weight down but unfortunately failed. She was later hospitalised at a local polyclinic as a precaution.</p>

<p>Phogat was earlier discharged from the hospital after recuperating from dehydration for trying to lose weight ahead of the final.</p>

<p>IOA&nbsp;chief PT Usha, who rushed to Paris following the unfortunate incident, said: "Vinesh's disqualification is very shocking and I met her at the Olympic Village Poly Clinic a short while ago and I showed her complete support of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Government of India and the whole country."</p>

<p>While participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Phogat emerged as the first international wrestler to have defeated reigning gold medalist and four times World Champion Yui Susaki in women's 50kg wrestling and also became India's first female wrestler to reach an Olympic final.</p>

<p>In a heartbreaking twist of fate, Phogat was disqualified because she failed to weigh more than 50kg which was required for the competition on Wednesday morning (August 7), as stated by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).</p>

<p>“Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning,” said the IOA, in a statement&nbsp;posted on X.</p>

<p>Phogat became the face of the fierce protests led by the wrestlers against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who faced allegations of sexual misconduct and also raised the hot debate of #MeToo incidents in the world of sports in January 2023.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For weeks, Phogat along with other wrestlers camped in Delhi demanding an investigation against Singh, who was the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).</p>

The protests at a few occasions turned violent with police dragging&nbsp;Phogat, her sister Sangeeta Phogat, and wrestler Sakshi Malik out from the demonstration&nbsp;site.</p>

<p>The wrestlers also took the extreme step of throwing their Olympic medals into the Ganges River in Haridwar as a mark of protest.</p>

<p>“These medals decorating our necks no longer mean anything,” said the athletes, in a statement, adding, “What is the point of life when you compromise on dignity?”</p>

<p>Finally, the wrestlers saw a ray of hope when Singh&nbsp;was charged with assault, stalking and sexual harassment by the Delhi police.</p>

<p>On August 7, Phogat's long-cherished dream of winning an Olympic medal after 12 years of struggle and two failed attempts had an unexpected turn. But sinking in despair and accepting defeat is just not in the nature of this Olympian.</p>

<p>In the next bout, Phogat beat Ukraine's Oksana Livach 5-4 to enter the semis. She'll play in the final four rounds later tonight.</p>

<p>It is to be noted that Phogat was one of the faces of the wrestlers' protest in India against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Saran Singh for alleged sexual harassment.</p>

<p>Nisha Dahiya lost her bout to North Korea's Sol Gum Pak due to&nbsp;a shoulder injury in the last 30 seconds. Nisha had a lead going into the final round which she then stretched to 8-1.</p>

<p>With only 12 seconds left in the bout, Nisha required medical attention once again and was constantly crying because of pain. The India grappler, however, went down with an 8-10 score despite a valiant effort.</p>
