Paris Olympics 2024: 'Not Vinesh Phogat's fault...,' WFI president Sanjay Singh reacts to her disqualification

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh has said that it was not Vinesh Phogat's fault that she was found overweight on the day of her 50kg freestyle final on Wednesday (Aug 7) at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.
Speaking to news outlet India Today over phone, Sanjay Singh said: "It is not Vinesh's fault and she wouldn't do anything to jeopardies her chances to win an Olympic gold."
"It is extremely unfortunate for our country that even after wrestling so well and qualifying for the finals, she was disqualified for being overweight by 100 grams,"the WFI presidenthe said as reported by the news agency ANI.
Sanjay Singh also added that the wrestler had a personal coach, a physio and a nutritionist, sent by the government of India. The answer of how she was found overweight can only be given by her or the nutritionist.
"The Govt of India has provided her coach, nutritionist, and physio to Vinesh Phogat. All of them are with her in the games village. Her weight was constant for 2 days but it increased overnight, the reason for this can only be given by her nutritionist and her coach," Singh said.

He also mentioned that the federation is exploring all the ways for legal procedure and Indian Olympic Committee (IOC) chief PT Usha is in Paris for the same.
"WFI is looking after the legal procedure. PT Usha has reached the games village, we will have a discussion and decide how to protest against IOC and UWW."
Earlier, reacting to the news, Member of Parliament (MP) Karan Bhushan Singh, son of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, also expressed disappointment.
"It is a loss for the country. The Federation will take this into consideration and see what can be done," he told news agency ANI.
