Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna has said that China needs to respect India’s borders and that he will work towards New Delhi getting critical US technologies like some other key allies including Israel, Japan and South Korea. 
 
Ro Khanna, co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus who is leading a bipartisan Congressional delegation here, hoped that India can play a role in effecting peace between Russia and Ukraine. 
 
“It`s very important that we keep India`s sovereignty.…They (China) need to respect India`s border and this is why I went to the Western Naval Command. We are working very closely with the American Navy to make sure the Arabian Sea remains free for navigation and that the Indian Ocean remains free, and we will continue to strengthen that relationship,” Khanna told ANI in an interview.

Answering a query about discussions on democratic and human rights during his India visit, the Congressman stated that both India and US are democracies and recognising minority rights and pluralism helps become better democracies. &nbsp; 
 
“I believe that both America and India are important democracies that they have to move towards becoming even better democracies. And that means recognizing pluralism, recognizing minority rights, making sure that every person is treated with equality,” Khanna said. 
 
“These are conversations as good friends as allies that we need to continue to have with respect. I will say I have had these conversations in India and they`ve been welcomed….and the government has been welcoming me having these conversations”, he added. 
 
Strongly condemning the attack on the India consulate in San Francisco by Khalistani separatists, Khanna said that there can be no violence against an embassy.

“Punjab is a part of India, that is a settled question. We need to make sure everyone is treated equally, whether Hindu, Christian, Sikh or Muslim. Punjab is a part of India,” he added. 
 
Asked about India’s G20 Presidency and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ro Khanna said that India has a great opportunity for leadership and can play a role in establishing peace. 
 
He said there needs to be a ceasefire as it is affecting commodity prices globally. &nbsp; 
 
“We need to have Ukraine`s sovereignty restored, but there also needs to be peace. There needs to be a ceasefire, otherwise, this is affecting wheat prices. It`s affecting oil prices, not to mention the loss of human life...so hopefully India can play a role in getting peace,” the Congressman said.

The announcement of the jet engine deal with GE, Air India buying almost 200 aircraft from Boeing is very important for the American economy and as the chair of the India-US Caucus, I am going to make sure that India has access to the critical technology like Israel, Japan, South Korea, like our key allies,” he said.

China needs to respect India’s borders, says US Congressman Ro Khanna

Diwali, celebrated by millions of Americans from various faiths and religions including Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains, should be declared a federal holiday, Congresswoman Grace Meng has said.

Meng, a lawyer-turned-politician, who represents the sixth Congressional District of New York, has introduced the Diwali Day Act in the US House of Representatives, for making Diwali a federal holiday in the country.

“It’s not just about a day off. It is about making sure that people beyond those who celebrate Diwali, truly understand the holiday and the culture and the contributions of the so many people who celebrate Diwali,” Meng told PTI in an interview on Thursday.

As a kid growing up in Queens, New York City, Meng said she always wanted to make sure that US holidays match those of the communities.

“It is important to me as an Asian American that Diwali, which is a holiday that is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and billions of people literally around the world, that we are able to have this day off,” the 47-year-old Democrat said.

The legislation introduced in May has gained positive traction from her Congressional colleagues.

“We haven’t really heard anything negative. So, in the world of politics and Congress, that is a very positive sign. This piece of legislation is a bipartisan piece of legislation,” she said.

“We have members signing on every week, and so we are excited to keep talking about it and hopefully be able to pass it. We are very heartened by the steps taken by New York State, for example, in making Diwali a New York City school holiday, which is long overdue. We’ve been fighting for about 10 years or over 10 years on that legislation. And so we think that that also provides some momentum for our federal legislation,” Meng said.

Indian Americans, she said, have contributed so much to New York City, New York State, and the US.

Indian Americans comprise one of the largest Asian American populations in this country, and they have provided so many benefits to the US.

“They have contributed so much to our culture to academia, to our economy. And so we want to make sure that we recognise the important contributions and holidays that Indian Americans celebrate,” the Congresswoman said.

Responding to a question on the recent visit of the Prime Minister and his address to the joint session of the Congress, Meng said the speech was well received.

“His presence was received by both sides of the aisle, very bipartisan. We know that there are Indian Americans in both Republican and Democratic districts throughout New York and across the country. Many of our constituents back at home in New York were excited to see him come to Congress and we were able to hear him speak about the strong alliance between India and the United States,” she said.

In June, Diwali was enshrined as a school holiday in New York City and authorities described it as a “victory” for the city’s residents, including the Indian community.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he was proud that the State Assembly and the State Senate have passed the bill making Diwali a New York City Public School holiday.&nbsp;

Our universe is ever-expanding and houses trillions of galaxies, stars and planets which makes one believe that we, humans, might not be alone on this pale blue dot that we often refer to as Earth. Renowned astrophysicist and TV personality Carl Sagan once famously said that the universe is a "pretty big place" and it would seem like an "awful waste of space if it was only us in it". Naturally, a significant portion of the planet believes that we may have been contacted by extraterrestrial beings because it certainly appears mathematically probable. Now, some chilling, otherworldly revelations have been made during the House Oversight subcommittee hearing on UFOs that solidify this theory. US government knows the truth? David Grusch, a former US intelligence official, has become an overnight internet sensation after he claimed in his testimony that there was absolute certainty that the federal government remains in possession of UAPs. Grusch cited interviews he had conducted with over 40 witnesses over a four-year long period as the basis of his claims. Under oath, Grusch disclosed that he had been informed of a long-standing UAP crash retrieval and reverse-engineering programme during his official duties, from which he was denied access Asked by one of the committee members, how such a programme was funded, Grusch claimed that the effort is "above congressional oversight" and bankrolled by a "misappropriation of funds." Grusch said he had "specific knowledge" of money going into the alien exploration programme when it was meant for another scheme. However, he could not give the specifics due to the information being classified. When asked if there were bodies of pilots piloting these craft, he confirmed the existence of "biologics" that were non-human, based on information from individuals with direct knowledge of the programme. Besides, other witnesses, David Fravor, a former Navy commander, and Ryan Graves, a retired Navy pilot, also made similar claims. Fravor recalled seeing a strange object in the sky while on a training mission in 2004, while Graves, who has founded Americans for Safe Aerospace, a UAP non-profit, said he saw UAP off the Atlantic coast “every day for at least a couple years”. Despite the US government's unwillingness, a pandora's box of questions, assertions and conspiracies has opened up after the meeting. While UAPs are certainly a yardstick to gauge if alien life exists out there, space agencies such as NASA are on the lookout for exoplanets to find other life forms. Currently, there are around 4,000 exoplanets in our galaxy alone which makes the quest all the more exciting. Since our solar system (4.5 billion years) is relatively new compared to the universe's age (13.8 billion), physicist Enrico Fermi had in 1950 posited that given enough time, alien civilisations should have been able to cross our neighbourhood. It is a paradox that takes into equation that we haven't been visited by these aliens. "Specifically, the Committee has stated an interest in what the Committee has described to you as certain events that took place in December 2020 as part of this investigation. As the Department recently emphasized when affirming that U.S. Attorney David Weiss will appear before the House Committee on the Judiciary ‘at an appropriate time, consistent with the law and Department policy,’ the Department’s longstanding policy is to seek ‘wherever possible to provide information about closed, rather than open, matters',” he further said.

“Department officials, including those who have left the Department, are obligated to protect non-public information they learned in the course of their work. Such information could be subject to various privileges, including law enforcement, deliberative process, attorney work product, and attorney-client privileges, and privacy interests. Current and former Department officials also must protect classified information, sources and methods, and grand jury information protected by Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e),” he added.

Senators Gary Peters, a Democrat who chairs the Homeland Security Committee, introduced a bill along with Senators Mike Braun and James Lankford, both Republicans, which would require U.S. government agencies to tell people when they are&nbsp;using AI to interact with them.

The bill also requires agencies to create a way for people to appeal any decisions made by AI.

"The federal government needs to be proactive and transparent with AI utilization and ensure that decisions aren't being made without humans in the driver's seat," said Braun in a statement.

Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Warner, both Democrats, introduced a measure along with Republican Senator Todd Young that would establish an Office of Global Competition Analysis that would seek to ensure that the United States stayed in the front of the pack in developing artificial intelligence.

This transaction was valued between $1,000 and $15,000 and took place&nbsp;a day before the bank collapsed, sending U.S. banking stocks plummeting.

Gottheimer, the Financial Times noted, reportedly sold his shares&nbsp;in Charles Schwab Corp. on March 6 and March 14 for a similar amount. Gottheimer also sold his shares&nbsp;in Seacoast Banking, a troubled Florida bank, on March 29. The share price of Seacoast Banking has fallen by&nbsp;10 percent&nbsp;since the transaction.

He was then asked if the app collects data on health and GPS. He told the committee that it doesn’t.
