The prospect of a downgrade to France's credit rating is growing stronger. The latest comes a year after President Emmanuel Macron was warned that the country's credit rating was under closer review. Debt levels remain stubbornly high at about 110% of GDP. That puts the standards set by S&P to maintain its rating to the test. Nearly twelve months after delivering a negative view, it has set friday as the deadline for an update.

Iran hit back at the UK, France, and Germany for jointly condemning its recent missile advances, specifically the unveiling of the Fattah-2 ballistic missile, which Tehran says is "hypersonic."&nbsp;

In a joint statement, the E3 countries expressed concern and said, "Iran continues to develop its missile programme despite repeated international calls to halt it, and after years of disregarding UN restrictions."

The Fattah-2, equipped with an advanced warhead and hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV), was showcased at the Ashura Aerospace Science and Technology University in Tehran on November 19.

Fattah, translating to "conquer" in Farsi, represents an advanced iteration of its initial domestically produced hypersonic ballistic missile, also named "Fattah".

The new version boasts several notable features. It's HGV warhead is capable of maneuvering and gliding at incredibly high speeds, capable of evading air defence systems.

Propelled by a liquid-fuel rocket propellant, the precision-guided two-stage missile exhibits a striking range of 1500 kilometres. It also achieves a velocity of Mach 15, equating to 15 times the speed of sound, equivalent to 18522 kilometres per hour, as per reports.&nbsp;

<h2>UN sanctions against Iran lifted&nbsp;</h2>

The E3 countries highlighted the global and regional security threat posed by Iran's ballistic missile program, especially following the expiration of UN sanctions on Iran's missile programme in October.

The lifting of sanctions, reports say, allows Iran to sell its drones, ballistic missiles, and related technologies, potentially generating revenue for supporting militant and terror proxies in the Middle East.

In response, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, dismissed the E3 statement as misleading, politically motivated, and lacking legal grounding.

The United States House of Representatives&nbsp;on Thursday (Nov 30) passed a resolution which would block Iran from ever accessing the $6 billion that Washington recently transferred to Qatar as part of a controversial prisoner swap which took place earlier this year.&nbsp;

The House Republicans pushed the measure in response to Tehran’s alleged role in the deadly October 7 attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel.&nbsp;

In September, Iran and the US held a prisoner swap which saw the exchange of five American citizens who were detained in Tehran with the same number of Iranians held in Washington. The swap also included the unfreezing of at least $6 billion of Iranian money by US President Joe Biden’s administration.&nbsp;

<h2>‘No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act’</h2>

The resolution titled ‘No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act’ in the lower chamber of Congress was passed with 307-119 votes as Republicans supposedly sought to hold the Biden administration accountable for what they called complicity in funding Iranian-backed terrorism in the Middle East.

“With such instability in the region, the last thing we need to do is to give access to $6 billion to be diverted to more Iranian-sponsored terrorism,” said Representative Michael McCaul, the Republican chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, during the debate, as quoted by the Associated Press.&nbsp;

However, US officials have maintained they have not transferred even a single dollar to Iran yet and even when they do, it will be used for humanitarian needs.&nbsp;

But critics, including several House Republicans, have said that despite the money being used for humanitarian aid, it could free up other funds for Iran to provide support to Hamas.&nbsp;

This comes amid reports of Tehran’s alleged involvement and support for the Palestinian militant group ahead of their October 7 attacks on Israel.&nbsp;

The resolution also includes measures like imposing new sanctions on the funds to prevent the transfer of any monies to Iran and threatens to sanction any government or individual involved in the processing of the transfer of the funds.

<h2>Did US, Qatar agree to freeze Iran’s $6 billion after the prisoner swap?</h2>

The $6 billion frozen in South Korea had been generated by Iran through oil sales to Seoul. It was stuck after the US under former president Donald Trump reimposed sanctions as he withdrew from a landmark nuclear accord of 2015.

The United States House of Representatives on Thursday (Nov 30) passed a resolution which would block Iran from ever accessing the $6 billion that Washington recently transferred to Qatar as part of a controversial prisoner swap which took place earlier this year. The House Republicans pushed the measure in response to Tehran’s alleged role in the deadly October 7 attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel. In September, Iran and the US held a prisoner swap which saw the exchange of five American citizens who were detained in Tehran with the same number of Iranians held in Washington. The swap also included the unfreezing of at least $6 billion of Iranian money by US President Joe Biden’s administration. ‘No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act’ The resolution titled ‘No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act’ in the lower chamber of Congress was passed with 307-119 votes as Republicans supposedly sought to hold the Biden administration accountable for what they called complicity in funding Iranian-backed terrorism in the Middle East. ALSO READ | US and Iran swap prisoners after Qatar-brokered deal unfreezes $6 billion of Iranian oil money “With such instability in the region, the last thing we need to do is to give access to $6 billion to be diverted to more Iranian-sponsored terrorism,” said Representative Michael McCaul, the Republican chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, during the debate, as quoted by the Associated Press. However, US officials have maintained they have not transferred even a single dollar to Iran yet and even when they do, it will be used for humanitarian needs. But critics, including several House Republicans, have said that despite the money being used for humanitarian aid, it could free up other funds for Iran to provide support to Hamas. This comes amid reports of Tehran’s alleged involvement and support for the Palestinian militant group ahead of their October 7 attacks on Israel. The resolution also includes measures like imposing new sanctions on the funds to prevent the transfer of any monies to Iran and threatens to sanction any government or individual involved in the processing of the transfer of the funds. Retired Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman appointed to the highest US court, died on Friday, according to an official announcement. She was 93.

O'Connor, who stepped down in 2006, died at her home in Phoenix, Arizona, the court said in a statement.

"Sandra Day O'Connor blazed an historic trail as our Nation's first female Justice," Chief Justice John Roberts said. "She met that challenge with undaunted determination, indisputable ability, and engaging candor.

"We celebrate her enduring legacy as a true public servant and patriot."

O'Connor was appointed to the Supreme Court by president Ronald Reagan in 1981 and stepped down in 2006.

She wielded enormous influence as the key centrist on a sharply divided bench, where she often displayed a preference for pragmatism over ideology.

O'Connor frequently emerged as a crucial swing vote, breaking with her conservative colleagues and providing the fifth vote to make a liberal majority on several key occasions.

She then sided with the majority that blocked the 2000 Florida recount and effectively handed the presidency to George W. Bush.

According to the DOJ, Dunaev’s participation in the scheme was linked to 10 victims in the Northern District of Ohio, including Avon schools and a North Canton real-estate company, who were “defrauded of more than $3.4 million via ransomware deployed by Trickbot.”

“Dunaev and his codefendants hid behind their keyboards, first to create Trickbot, then using it to infect millions of computers worldwide – including those used by hospitals, schools, and businesses – invading privacy and causing untold disruption and financial damage,” said US Attorney Rebecca Lutzko, in a statement.&nbsp;

Foreign investors are set to channel significant capital into Taiwan stocks in November, creating a record-setting inflow of $8.2 billion on a net basis, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.<o:p></o:p>

This surge being the largest monthly inflow since at least 2000, is attributed to growing optimism surrounding technology shares, fuelled by the belief that the Federal Reserve has concluded its interest-rate hikes.<o:p></o:p>

The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) Index has surged by an impressive 8.6 per cent in November, positioning itself as one of the top-performing indices in the Asia Pacific region. This rally aligns with a global trend as investors re-evaluate tech valuations amid expectations of a peak in borrowing costs.<o:p></o:p>

Bloomberg cited Caroline Yu Maurer, Head of China and Specialised Asia Strategies at HSBC Asset Management, who emphasised the close correlation between Taiwan's market and the U.S. cycle, particularly the AI-related cycle. She noted that Taiwan's leading stocks do not exhibit extreme valuations, providing an attractive proposition for investors. Maurer remarked that Taiwan “is very much geared toward the US cycle, essentially the AI-related cycle. (The leading stocks) are not really extreme on valuations, they’re not as expensive."<o:p></o:p>

As the tech-heavy market in Taiwan experiences this financial influx, its neighbour, South Korea, also attracted substantial inflows amounting to $3.1 billion. In contrast, Indian equities, while increasingly becoming a structural bet for many foreigners, saw relatively lower popularity, gathering $614 million in inflows. <o:p></o:p>

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is back in Israel this week, where he says he will work to help prolong a cease-fire so more hostages can be released and more humanitarian aid can be delivered to Gaza. At the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels, Blinken tried to reassure allies of continued U.S. support for Ukraine as Kyiv prepares for another winter of fighting. U.S. President Joe Biden will not be attending this week’s 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP 28.
