United Flight 2434 was headed to Chicago when the light started blinking and forced pilots to alert dispatchers and the plane was rerouted to Tampa, as per a spokesperson for the airport. 
 
The plane took off from Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport at 3:42 pm local time and was rerouted to Tampa International Airport where the plane made a safe landing at 4:35 pm, as per the flight tracking website Flight Aware.

The aircraft, which had 123 passengers and five crew members, was able to make an emergency landing “as a precaution this afternoon to address a possible mechanical issue,” said a spokesperson of United Airlines, while speaking to The New York Post. 
 
The airline did not clarify immediately if the issue was related to an open door light. However, a Tampa International Airport spokesperson said that this&nbsp;same reason was cited at the time its dispatchers received a request for runway space to make an emergency landing.

United Airlines on Monday (Jan 8) said that they found loose bolts while carrying out inspections of the Boeing 737 Max 9 fleet after a door plug had blown out from an Alaska Airlines plane over the weekend. The issue forced the plane to rapidly drop and the pilot to turn the aircraft carrying 270 passengers and 14 crew members around, a spokesperson told The Post. The flight landed back at the Newark airport at 12:27 am (local time) instead of its planned destination of Rome–Fiumicino International Airport, according to flight tracker FlightAware.

In 33 years since then, he has flown more than 23 million miles (37 million km) and visited more than 100 countries, which, according to The Washington Post, is more miles than any individual in history.

To make sense of that feat, NASA’s Apollo 11, which carried Neil Armstrong and his fellow astronauts to the moon, travelled only 953,000 miles (1.5mn km).

And it seems that his record will forever remain unbroken as United no longer extends such passes to its fliers, as per the newspaper.

In 2019 alone, Stuker’s distance travelled was equivalent to “more than six trips to the moon”, the Post reported.

In that year, the 69-year-old car dealership consultant took 373 flights, covering 1.46mn miles. Had he paid cash for the flights, it would have cost $2.44 million.

At one point, he spent 12 consecutive days without touching a bed, as he hopped from Newark to San Francisco and then to Bangkok and Dubai, only spending time outside of the friendly skies while he visited airport lounges.

But one of the greatest benefits to have accrued over the years is his flier miles. In 2009, Stuker passed the 5m mile (8m km) mark, according to Simple Flying, and then in 2019, he breached the 10m mile mark.

He used the miles to “redo his brother’s house”, and “once cashed $50,000 worth of Walmart gift cards in a single day”, the report added.

Stuker also won a charity auction to appear in a Seinfeld episode by bidding 451,000 air miles.

"Best investment of my life," Stuker told the Post.

He said that he was aware that frequent-flier miles weren't just a way to get more flights; he also ended up selling and trading miles with others.

“I’m not adding to the footprint,” Stuker told GQ in an interview in 2020.

“The plane is going to fly whether I’m on it or not. It would be much more relevant if I was flying in a private jet. Those are the people who can help the environment much more than I can if they flew commercial.”

In a bizarre incident, a passenger aboard a United Airlines flight had to be held back after attempting to jump out of the plane&nbsp;following an altercation where he allegedly punched a flight attendant.

The incident transpired on a flight bound for Houston, Texas from San Francisco earlier this week, just when the plane was about to take off, according to US media reports.&nbsp;

Naya Jimenez, one of the passengers on the flight, captured the entire incident on her camera which is now going viral on social media platforms. She claimed that the man became embittered and violent after she asked him and his wife to move out of her assigned seat.&nbsp;

“They had to bring in a gate attendant to try to talk to them.&nbsp;Then, he began slurring his speech a little bit,” Jimenez was quoted as saying by ABC7.&nbsp;

Afterwards, the out-of-control passenger proceeded to physically assault the flight attendant who was punched several times, as seen in the footage.&nbsp;

Two others opted not to be transported," it added.&nbsp; According to Sabrina LoPiccolo, a spokeswoman for San Diego International Airport (SAN), emergency workers responded to the fire incident and are presently attending to passengers.

FlightAware data shows the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft departed the airport at 7:07 a.m. Pacific Time and returned to San Diego at 7:51 a.m. CNN was informed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)&nbsp;official Ian Gregor that a laptop battery caused the fire. The FAA will look into it, Gregor said.

United Airlines, one of the largest airline companies in the USA, has issued a warning to&nbsp;Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that it will suspend its services at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) if it does not receive permits for additional flights.

Reportedly,&nbsp;United Chief Executive Scott Kirby wrote a letter to FAA and its acting&nbsp;Administrator Billy Nolen, where in clear terms he demanded the needful.&nbsp;

"That would obviously be a tough and frustrating step to take and one that we have worked really hard to prevent," he further added.&nbsp;

It is pertinent to note that ever since the airport reopened after a COVID-19-induced hiatus in 2021, United Airlines is only flying twice daily to&nbsp;San Francisco and Los Angeles from the airport. According to data, JFK is the busiest New York airport and a major airline only operating a small percentage of flights at the airport is not good for the business.

However, FAA took a measured stance in response to the letter and asserted that it "must consider airspace capacity and runway capacity to assess how changes would affect flights at nearby airports. Any additional slots at JFK would follow the FAA's well-established process of awarding them fairly and to increase competition."

"CPD arrived and placed him into custody. Charges are pending," police said.

A woman delivered a baby on a plane while she was flying from Ghana to the United States. As per reports, the woman gave birth to a baby boy over 30,000ft in the air during an 11-hour transatlantic United Airlines flight on January 29.&nbsp;

The woman was travelling from Accra, Ghana, to Washington, DC and reports have mentioned that she was not due till late February. Unexpectedly, she went into labour but luckily a Ghanaian doctor was also on the flight.&nbsp;

Dr Stephen Ansah-Addo, who practices in the US now, was joined by a former nurse-turned-flight attendant and there was another nurse on the flight.&nbsp;

While reacting to the news, Dr Addo was quoted by the media: "I couldn’t believe it was happening. But I was trying to stay calm."&nbsp;

"Myself, a nurse and the flight attendants... took [the mother] slowly through the process and she delivered a beautiful baby boy," the doctor added.&nbsp;

The team of three used a string to cut the umbilical cord as they didn't have any clamps. The doctor said: "This is someone that really needed help, because there was nobody else there. This is the kind of medicine where you can make a difference in people’s lives."

He later told local news channel NBC2 that he wanted to show the “absurdity” of forcing passengers to wear masks on planes while allowing them to be removed to eat and drink on board.

Following the incident, United Airlines issued a statement saying that “the customer clearly wasn’t in compliance with the federal mask mandate and we appreciate that our team addressed the issue on the ground prior to take off, avoiding any potential disruptions on the air.”

According to local news media reports, United Airlines sent an email to Jenne after his ejection, telling him he is now banned from its airline until his case has been reviewed by the Passenger Incident Review Committee.

The federal mask mandate requires travellers in the US to wear a face mask on planes, trains, and buses, as well as in airports and other transit stations.
