Britain's Prince Harry on Saturday praised the courage of the Ukraine team at an opening ceremony for the Invictus Games in The Netherlands, where the Ukrainian competitors also received a standing ovation.

"Your bravery and choosing to come and of being here tonight cannot be overstated," the Duke of Sussex told the audience at the ceremony in the Dutch city of The Hague.

'Glory to Ukraine,' his wife Meghan added in Ukrainian, addressing the team who had travelled to the games despite the invasion of their country ordered by Moscow on February 24.

Harry said the team had told him of their wish to attend "despite all odds... not simply to show your strength, but to tell your truth. The truth of what is happening in your country.

"You know we stand with you. The world is united with you and still you deserve more."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in The Netherlands on Friday, making their first joint public appearance in Europe since quitting royal life and moving to North America more than two years ago.

A day earlier they had paid a secret visit to Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, where they also reportedly met his father Prince Charles, following tensions caused by their interview with chat show queen Oprah Winfrey in which they accused an unnamed member of the royal family of racism.

'We are all behind you' -

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte told the ceremony that some members of the Ukraine team could not be at the games as they were "fighting on the frontline".

"Of course, we are thinking of those Ukrainians in the Invictus community who have paid the ultimate price for their fighting in the war... we are all behind you," he said.

According to the Ukraine team at least four members of the Invictus community there have died in fighing in Ukraine since 2014.

Harry, who served with the British army in Afghanistan, founded the Invictus Games for disabled military veterans.

More than 500 participants from 20 countries are taking part in the Invictus Games, which have been postponed twice because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Just before the prince's arrival on Friday, the Ukrainian team made their own arrival to great applause.

The team of 19 people were present in the Netherlands to take part but said they regretted the absence of one participant, trapped in the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

The paramedic, Yuliia Paievska, known as Taira, is "in danger of death now", a spokeswoman for the team told AFP.

"She is the only woman on the team and was due to compete in archery and swimming," the team said in a statement Friday.

Manchester City star Oleksandr Zinchenko has once again spoken about the horrific scenes in his country Ukraine amid Russia's ongoing military invasion. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has left millions displaced and thousands dead as Ukrainians around the globe continue to watch in horror.

Zinchenko, who has been quite vocal in Russia's criticism amid Vladimir Putin's military aggression, opened up on the misery of fellow Ukrainians back home. The Manchester City defender lashed out at those denying the reality of the situation in his country and revealed horrifying details of the Russian military's brutality in Ukraine.

In an interview with the Guardian, Zinchenko said Russians have raped Ukrainian women, killed children and the dead bodies of many continue to lie on the streets in the country amid the ongoing invasion. The Man City star also claimed that Russians haven't even spared dogs in Ukraine and ate them during the war.

“It’s a nightmare. A shock to the whole world, the things they have done there. Terrible, scary things. They killed our civilians. They killed our children. They raped our women and girls. They killed our dogs and even ate them. I cannot even begin to describe how I feel about them," Zinchenko told the Guardian.

“I hate them so much, for everything they have done to the Ukrainian people and Ukraine. I hate the people in Russia who are trying to convince others that this is propaganda. It’s embarrassing. How can they say this?

"People send me the real pictures, the real facts. The bodies of our dead civilians were lying on the ground for two weeks. They have to take responsibility for this," he added.

Zinchenko slams ex-teammates at Russian club FC UFA

Zinchenko, who had signed from Manchester City in 2016, was playing for Russian Premier League club FC Ufa before heading to the English Premier League. He had spent two seasons with FC Ufa where he played alongside a number of Russian players. Lashing out at his ex-teammates from Russia, the left-back slammed them for not standing up against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Stating that remaining silent means they are supporting what's happening in Ukraine, Zinchenko expressed his angst at his former teammates for not using their influence in stopping the war. Zinchenko said footballers in Russia could have done a lot had they decided to come together and speak up against the violence being inflicted in Ukraine.

“I have friends over there, a small circle, but now it has reduced almost to nothing. I’m so disappointed. The guys I know called me as soon as the invasion happened, texted me: ‘I’m so sorry Alex, but we can’t do anything.’ Of course you can. If you stay silent it means you support what is happening in Ukraine right now, and I can’t see why they would," said Zinchenko.

"Maybe they are scared because we see pictures on social media of Russians being taken to prison if they protest. But look at footballers in particular or anyone with a massive audience.

"Can you believe that, if all of them posted something on Instagram at the same time saying: ‘Guys, we are against the war, we need to stop it,’ they would all be arrested? Of course they would not. It’s such a shame that they say nothing," he added.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, World Health Organization's (WHO) director-general on Wednesday said that the world treats “blacks and white lives” unequally.

The WHO chief said this in the context of Ukraine and the attention its ‘white’ population is receiving compared to other areas facing emergencies.

As per him the emergencies happening elsewhere are not being taken seriously, he added that he hopes that the international community "comes back to its senses".

Speaking at a news conference, Tedros said: "I don't know if the world really gives equal attention to black and white lives."

"The whole attention to Ukraine is very important of course because it impacts the whole world."

"But even a fraction of it is not being given to Tigray, Yemen, Afghanistan and Syria and the rest. A fraction.”

He added that global attention was simply not being placed on humanitarian crises like the one in Ethiopia.

The United Nations had determined that the besieged northern region of Ethiopia on average needs 100 trucks of humanitarian supplies every day.

Since the declaration of truce till date 2000 trucks should’ve reached the suffering country, however, merely 20 have actually reached, said Tedros, adding that he was worried that these 20 trucks might also merely be a "diplomatic manoeuvre" by the Addis Ababa government.

Right now, apart from the crisis in Ukraine other nations too are in an emergency situation.

In Tigray, as per the UN thousands are at risk, facing starvation, fuel shortages, and lack of basic services for months.

Syria's civil war broke out in 2011 as a result of the government's harsh crackdown on anti-regime rallies. In the violence, which has wreaked havoc on the country's economy, nearly half a million people have been killed and millions have been displaced.

Russian defence ministry confirmed late on Thursday that country's guided-missile cruiser Moskva had sunk in the Black Sea after getting damaged during a military operation against Ukraine.

Ukraine had claimed it struck the flagship with missiles but Russian authorities attributed the sinking to ammunition explosions.

"While being towed ... towards the destination port, the vessel lost its balance due to damage sustained in the hull as fire broke out after ammunition exploded. Given the choppy seas, the vessel sank," the state news agency TASS quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying. It said the crew was evacuated.

Big blow to Russia: Pentagon

The Pentagon said on Thursday that the sinking of Moskva was a "big blow" to Russian naval strength in the Black Sea.

"This is a big blow to the Black Sea fleet, this is... a key part of their efforts to execute some sort of naval dominance in the Black Sea," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told CNN.

"This is going to have an effect on their capabilities."

Kirby said the US could not confirm the exact cause of the ship's demise.

"We're also not in any position to refute the Ukrainian side of this," he added. "It's certainly plausible and possible that they did in fact hit this with a Neptune missile or maybe more."

The UK has claimed that Russia used chemical weapons in Mariupol, which is a Ukrainian city during the invasion that started on February 24. The UK said it is trying to verify reports Moscow used chemical weapons. A UK minister warned that any use of chemical weapons by Russia in its attacks on Ukraine "will get a response and all options are on the table". "If they are used at all, then (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin should know that all possible options are on the table in terms of how the West might respond. There are some things that are beyond the pale, and the use of chemical weapons will get a response," armed forces minister James Heappey told Sky News. UK's Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said earlier that Britain was working with partners to verify the reports that Russian forces may have used chemical agents in Mariupol. "Any use of such weapons would be a callous escalation in this conflict and we will hold Putin and his regime to account," she added on Twitter.
