<p>According to officials, five major pieces were detected amid the debris around the Titanic site. A nose cone, outside the pressure hull, and a larger debris field were among them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is an incredibly unforgiving environment," Mauger added, further mentioning that a few hours ago, an ROV from the vessel Horizon Artic found the tail cone of the Titan submersible approximately 1600 feet from the bow of the Titanic wreck.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mauger stated that the US Coast Guard will keep working near the site to gather more information. He added that it's an "incredibly complex environment" on the sea floor, two miles beneath the surface.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While weighing in on the possible timing of the collapse, Mauger told reporters that it was too early to tell what the timing of the implosion was. He added that since the search and rescue mission started, the US Coat Guard used sonar buoys out in the water for 72 hours and since they had been in place, they had not detected "any catastrophic events".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Suleman Dawood, the son of British-Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood and the youngest of five people who died after a 'catastrophic implosion' of the Titan submersible near Titanic's wreckage, apparently did not want to go on the expedition, his aunt has said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Suleman, 19, who attended the University of Glasgow, was terrified of the daring expedition, it has been revealed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an interview with NBC News, the older sister of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood said that Suleman joined the expedition because it was important to his father who was obsessed with the story of the Titanic sinking more than a century ago.</p>

<p>77-year-old Nargeolet, more popularly known as "Mr Titanic" had previously served in the French Navy for over 25 years.</p>

<p>He had the experience of diving all over the world and openly spoke about the perils of his adventures, that took him to inaccessible waters of the world's oceans.</p>

<p>As a crew member, Nargeolet had undertaken more than 30 dives to explore the ruins of the Titanic before the tragedy struck.&nbsp;</p>

Tributes pour in for men killed in ‘catastrophic implosion’ of Titan submersible

<p><em>The Simpsons</em> seem to have predicted the Titanic submersible tragedy years ago. Or at least a part of it. On Thursday, five on board the Titan submersible were announced to be dead as oxygen ran out. Debris from the submersible has been found by rescuers who had been involved in search operations as the submarine and its five occupants went missing on Sunday. The submersible, operated by OceanGate, was taking tourists to see the wreckage of the Titanic, the biggest ship of its time that sank in 1912.<br />

On Wednesday, a video of <em>The Simpsons</em> went viral which seems to have predicted the real-life event years back. The video is part of the 17th season of The Simpsons cartoon series and was aired way back in 2006.&nbsp;<br />

In the 10th episode of that season, titled <em>Simpsons Tids</em>, Homer Simpson goes on an expedition along with a man who he believes to be his biological father. Homer is taken to the man's ship first and eventually, they embark on a journey to the depth of the ocean in a submersible in search of lost treasure in a sunken called 'Piso Mojado.'</p>

<h2><strong>What is catastrophic implosion?</strong></h2>

<p>A catastrophic implosion happens when a vessel collapses on itself due to overwhelming internal pressure. When the pressure within a confined space becomes too much for the structure to bear, it leads to a catastrophic collapse.</p>

<p>Titan's’ main body, or “the hull”, is made of carbon fibre and titanium. The carbon fibre reinforced plastic hull might have collapsed when the hull imploded.</p>

<p>“This is because the material is not ductile as metal alloys and therefore it catastrophically implodes,” Professor Stefano Brizzolara, the co-director of Virginia Tech Center for Marine Autonomy and Robotics, told ABC News.</p>

<p>At sea level, atmospheric pressure is 14.7 pounds per square inch (psi).</p>

<p>Water pressure at the depth where the ocean liner lies is equivalent to around 400 atmospheres, nearly 6,000 psi.</p>

<p>As a comparison, the bite of a large great white shark exerts a force of nearly 4,000 psi, according to Scientific American.</p>

<p>It is believed that the implosion might have caused a defect in the hull or for some other reason, causing the submersible to collapse on itself in milliseconds as it was unable to withstand immense water pressure.</p>

<p>The chances of survival become zero as the occupants would have died instantly.</p>

<p>According to reports, OceanGate Inc. of Everett, which built the Titan, had designed the vessel to sustain the extreme water pressure at a depth of 4,000 meters.</p>

<p>However, safety concerns were raised after a lawsuit was filed involving OceanGate's former director of marine operations, David Lochridge, who was fired in 2018 after warning about the Titan's "experimental" carbon fibre hull.</p>

<h2><strong>How the implosion might have happened </strong></h2>

<p>Experts noted that a flood or failure of the vessel to withstand water pressure might have likely caused the implosion.</p>

<p>“That kind of catastrophic event would have happened within 20 milliseconds," submarine expert Eric Fusil from the University of Adelaide told ABC News.</p>

<p>The pressure hull of the Titan was made of a combination of titanium and a composite material of carbon fibres. The navy submarines, on the other hand, use high strength steel or titanium alloys.</p>

<p>"The titanium pressure vessel is very elastic— it can crush and then restore its&nbsp;initial shape," Fusil was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>"But the carbon&nbsp;fibres are&nbsp;completely different&nbsp;— it's something very stiff."</p>

<p>He, however, argued that the use of carbon fire is an “experimental technology” and it was too early to tell whether that design caused the issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As multi-nation rescue teams continue their search for the 'Titan' submersible which was initially ferrying paying passengers to the wreck of the Titanic, a man who was one of the submersible company's first customers described the dive to see the Titanic as a "kamikaze operation"</p>

<p>"You have to be a little bit crazy to do this sort of thing," said Arthur Loibl, a 61-year-old retired businessman and adventurer from Germany.</p>

<p>On Wednesday (June 21), Loibl told Associated Press that the idea to see the Titanic wreckage struck him while he was on a trip to the South Pole in 2016. &nbsp;</p>

<p>At that time, to see the wreckage, a person had to pay half a million dollars to a Russian company. OceanGate, the Washington state-based company announced its own operation a year later. In 2019, Loibl paid USD 110,000 for a dive. However, the expedition didn't take place as the first submersible didn't survive the testing.</p>

<p>Two years on, Loibl went on a successful voyage, along with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, French diver and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet and two men from England.</p>

<p>"Imagine a metal tube a few metres long with a sheet of metal for a floor. You can't stand. You can't kneel. Everyone is sitting close to or on top of each other," Loibl said.</p>

<p>"You can't be claustrophobic."</p>

<p><strong>Lights were off</strong></p>

<p>He said that during the submersible's 2.5-hour descent and ascent, the lights inside the cabin were turned off to conserve energy. The only illumination was light coming from a fluorescent glow stick. The dive was reportedly delayed a number of times to fix a problem with the battery and balancing weights. The voyage took a total of 10.5 hours.</p>

<p>The group was lucky and enjoyed an amazing view of the wreck, Loibl said, unlike visitors on other dives who only got to see a field of debris or in some cases nothing at all.</p>

<p>Some of the customers lost their nonrefundable payments after descent was made impossible by bad weather.</p>

<p>Loibl regarded Rush as a Tinkerer who tried to make do with what was available.</p>

<p>But in hindsight, he said, "it was a bit dubious."</p>

<p>"I was a bit naive, looking back now...It was a kamikaze operation,"</p>

<p>A frantic search is on for 'Titan', the OceanGate submersible which went missing on Sunday. The submersible, which set out to visit the Titanic wreckage, lost contact 1 hour 45 minutes into the dive. On board are Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate along with Nargeolet and a British adventurer with two members of a Pakistani business family.&nbsp;</p>
