Possible solution:

In case of communication system failing, Titan should have dropped the weight it carried. This would have enabled the submersible to surface to the water. A fresh attempt to send radio signals could have been then made.

A fire inside the submersible

The air inside the cabin of a submersible is usually oxygen-rich so that crew and passengers are allowed to breathe. But this very fact makes fires highly likely. Anything inflammable, even petroleum-based make-up products, are banned during deep dives.

Such a scenario likely leaves a low chance of survival and for any remedial measure.&nbsp;

This scenario is also likely. In such a case specialised deep-sea submersibles and sonar would have to be used in order to have a chance of finding Titan.

Submersible surfacing but passengers getting trapped

Even if Titan has surfaced, the danger to the crew and passengers isn't over. It has been reported that Titan's hatch can only be opened from the outside.

This means that people inside would still be trapped even if the submersible surfaced. Those inside would still need an emergency oxygen supply which definitely isn't unlimited.

Submersible exploding underwater due to enormous pressure

This is truly a worst-case scenario. Titan was at a depth of 3500 metres when it lost contact. Water pressure at this depth alone is more than two tonnes per square inch.

This means that every square inch of the surface of the submersible experienced pressure of more than two tonnes!

When we consider that Titan was going even deeper to explore the Titanic wreck situated at 3800 metres below the sea surface, it's easy to imagine that the enormous pressure on the structure of the vessel was only going to increase.

It has been reported that Titan's hull was made of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre is widely considered to be an untested material for such depths.

Any undersea explosion, however, would have been caught by military hydrophones installed in oceans worldwide. Till now there is no indication of such a report.

The clock is truly ticking for those on board the Titan.

Titan is about the size of a school bus. The submersible is 21 feet (6.5 metres) long. During this expedition, there were three fee-paying passengers on board.

These included billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani business tycoon Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman.

The company OceanGate Expeditions runs the Titan's trips. If you want to take one, you will have to pay USD 250,000 for a single seat.

<h2>What has happened so far?</h2>

According to the US Coast Guard, there were five people, one pilot and four passengers, on board the tour firm OceanGate Expeditions’ submersible “Titan”. The Washington-based private company has been deploying crewed submersibles for deep-sea expeditions and said is “mobilising all options” to get the crew back safely and working with the government agencies.&nbsp;

The submersible had between 70 and 96 hours of emergency oxygen as of Monday, said the US Coast Guard, adding that the vessel can stay underwater for up to 96 hours.&nbsp;It was not immediately clear if the vessel had resurfaced and was unable to communicate. 
 
US Coast Guard Captain Jamie Frederick, in an update&nbsp;on Tuesday afternoon,&nbsp;said that&nbsp;deep-diving tourist submersible has only&nbsp;"about 40 hours of breathable air".&nbsp;Additionally, even if the submersible has resurfaced the occupants cannot escape without assistance since it is sealed with bolts from the outside.

The submersible was carrying five people to see the wreckage of the RMS Titanic which sank during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York, US in April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg, killing at least 1,500 people of the roughly 2,200 passengers and crew.&nbsp;

Since then the Titanic’s shipwreck, which was first discovered in 1985 around 650 kilometres off the coast of Canada and lies about 12,500 feet (3,810 metres) below the surface, has been explored extensively.&nbsp;

The five-person submersible had taken wealthy adventurers on a $250,000 trip, on Sunday to see the wreckage of the sunken Titanic which some have predicted would disappear in a matter of decades.

The Titan’s dive on Sunday was supposed to be just another of many organised by the OceanGate since 2021. The support vessel Polar Prince, an icebreaker hired by OceanGate that takes people and the submersible vessel, arrived near the Titanic shipwreck on Sunday morning. As per reports, the submersible typically takes two hours to descend.

However, as per the Boston Coast Guard, the Titan “submerged Sunday morning, and the crew of the Polar Prince lost contact with them approximately one hour and 45 minutes into the vessel’s dive."

Notably, it is not the first time that the tourist submersible has disappeared as revealed in a video shot by CBS last summer. The video showed the vessel appeared to have lost communication with its mothership for almost two and a half hours.

<h2>About the search so far</h2>

The US Coast Guard is currently searching 1,450 kilometres east of the Cape Cod peninsula. In a statement, on Tuesday morning, the officials said that the Polar Prince along with another US coast guard team will continue to do “surface searches throughout the evening".

This comes after US Coast Guard’s Rear Admiral John Mauger, addressing the press, on Monday said that it’s been challenging to search such a remote area. He added that the operation is also being conducted in two parts, which included a surface search in case the Titan has surfaced but is unable to establish communications, and an underwater sonar search. 
 
In an update on Tuesday,&nbsp;Frederick said that the US and&nbsp;Canadian aircraft have searched more than 7,600 square miles with a commercial vessel and&nbsp;an unmanned vehicle capable of deep dives was also searching near the site.&nbsp;

In addition to the US and Canadian rescue ships and planes scouring the area, sonar buoys are also being deployed to monitor the water depth of around 3,900 metres. The coast guard has also deployed two C-130 Hercules aircraft for surface search joined by Canadian C-130, and a P8 aircraft equipped with underwater sonar.&nbsp;

According to OceanGate’s website, the expedition begins in the Canadian city of St John’s, Newfoundland, before heading out around 640 kilometres into the North Atlantic Ocean to the wreckage site. 
 
Why is the search so difficult?

Speaking to Reuters, two experts, on Tuesday, detailed the hostile conditions that any search and rescue operations might face while looking for the missing submersible. According to Tim Matlin, who has spent years studying the sunken ship and its wreckage, it's “pitch black down there”. He added, “You can’t see your hand in front of your face.”&nbsp;

Matlin also went on to describe the conditions like “being an astronaut going into space. So I do fear for the lives of those explorers who are on board."

Meanwhile, Jamie Pringle, a Forensic Geoscience at Keele University in the United Kingdom told the news agency that the first 24 hours of the search were key and that the chance of survival is now greatly reduced.&nbsp;

<h2>Who was on board the submersible?</h2>

As mentioned earlier, while the officials have confirmed there are five people on board, only the identity of three people have been confirmed so far, which included British billionaire Hamish Harding (58), Vice Chairman of one of Pakistan’s largest conglomerates Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman Dawood.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, as per reports, 77-year-old French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Stockton Rush who is the founder and CEO of the tour firm OceanGate, are also on board, but there is no official confirmation on this yet.&nbsp;

One of the passengers, who is confirmed to be on board the missing submersible, Harding, chairman of aviation consultancy Action Aviation, took to Facebook, on Saturday and said, “Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023.”&nbsp;

He added, “A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow,” adding that more expedition updates will follow “IF the weather holds!”.&nbsp;

That the United Arab Emirates-based businessman had been&nbsp;missing, was later confirmed by Harding’s stepson in a now-deleted Facebook post where he wrote that Harding had “gone missing on submarine” and asked for “thoughts and prayers”.&nbsp;

He later deleted the post citing respect for the family’s privacy.&nbsp;According to a previous social media report, Harding said that he would be on board the Titan as a “mission specialist”.&nbsp;

Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman

The Dawood family has confirmed that Shahzada the Vice Chairman of Engro Corporation and his son Suleman are on board the missing submersible. “We are very grateful for the concern being shown by our colleagues and friends and would like to request everyone to pray for their safety,” said their family, on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The 77-year-old French explorer is also on the missing submersible, a family spokesman told the BBC. Notably, he leads the underwater research at a company that owns the rights to the Titanic wreck and is nicknamed “Mr Titanic”. The former commander of the French Navy, Nargeolet reportedly served as both a deep diver and a minesweeper.&nbsp;

Stockton Rush

According to media reports, Rush, who is the founder and CEO of OceanGate is said to be on board the missing submersible. “The ocean is taking this thing, and we need to document it before it all disappears or becomes unrecognisable,” Rush had told the Associated Press back in 2021.&nbsp;

Two planes were launched by the US Coast Guard to survey the remote area in the North Atlantic, while its Canadian counterparts sent a plane and a ship to scan the region.&nbsp;

The US Coast Guard's Boston-based unit said in a tweet around 9:00 pm (0100 GMT Tuesday) that its flights for the day "have been completed" and there were no reported sightings of the vessel or communication signals throughout the day.&nbsp;

The tweet read, "The Polar Prince and @Rescue106 will continue to do surface searches throughout the evening." It referred to the research ship that launched the submersible and a US Air National Guard unit, respectively.&nbsp;

Earlier this year in May, the first full-sized 3D scan of the Titanic shipwreck was published. Experts expected the scans to reveal intricate details about the ocean liner's fateful journey across the Atlantic more than a century ago.&nbsp;

The high-resolution images were published by BBC. The scan reconstructed the wreck that lies at a depth of nearly 4,000 metres in great detail. The images were created using deep-sea mapping.&nbsp;

The report mentioned that deep-sea mapping companies Magellan Ltd and Atlantic Productions carried out the reconstruction process in 2022. They were making a documentary about the project.&nbsp;

Submersibles remotely controlled by a specialist ship spent over 200 hours surveying the wreck at the bottom of the Atlantic, taking over 700,000 images to create the scan.&nbsp;

As quoted by BBC, Magellan's Gerhard Seiffert, who led the planning for the expedition, said that the team was not allowed to touch anything "so as not to damage the wreck".&nbsp;

Seiffert had said, "The other challenge is that you have to map every square centimetre -- even uninteresting parts, like on the debris field you have to map mud, but you need this to fill in between all these interesting objects."&nbsp;

The images showed that the stern and bow of the giant liner were lying apart surrounded by debris, it looked like they were lifted from the water, revealing even the smallest details, like the serial number on one of the propellers.&nbsp;

Experts argued that the latest scans may shed more light on what exactly happened to the liner, with historians and scientists racing against time as the ship is disintegrating.&nbsp;

Parks Stephenson, who has been studying the Titanic, said he was "blown away" when he first saw the scans.

"It allows you to see the wreck as you can never see it from a submersible, and you can see the wreck in its entirety, you can see it in context and perspective. And what it's showing you now is the true state of the wreck,” he added.

“There is still much to learn from the wreck, which is essentially the last surviving eyewitness to the disaster. She has stories to tell,” he added.

Experts hope that the scanned images will shed light on exactly how the tragic ship sank in 1912. More than 1,500 people lost their lives after the giant ship was struck by an iceberg while it was on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. Atlantic Productions is also making a documentary about the project. A first look into the National Geographic special about the study, 'Titanic: 25 Years Later with James Cameron, premiered on Good Morning America', where the director allowed his fans to have a peek into his thought process.

Whether Jack could have survived had he joined Rose on the floating piece of debris, Cameron and a team of scientists hired two stunt doubles to re-enact four different scenarios. At one point in the clip, both Jack and Rose are halfway on the piece of debris, but their lower halves are completely submerged in the freezing water, so it`s likely neither would have survived in that position. In another position, they are both seated on the debris, and Jack is shaking violently from the cold.&nbsp; 
 
"He could've made it pretty long, like hours," Cameron said of the seated position. 
 
According to People, it`s only once they test the scenario when the two stunt people are as exhausted as they would`ve been in the real situation -- like the moment when Rose is shoved underwater by another survivor before Jack swims over and punches her attacker. Once they both are seated on the floating debris, Rose offers Jack her life jacket, and he "stabilized." 
 
"She got him to a place where, if we projected that out, he just might have made it until the lifeboat got there," Cameron said.In the end, the film's writer-director seems satisfied with the conclusion that The special coincides with the 4K restoration of Titanic, which opens in theatres on February 10 to celebrate the Academy Award winner's 25th anniversary. 
 
"Jack might`ve lived, but there`s a lot of variables," Cameron said. "I think his thought process was, `I`m not gonna do one thing that jeopardizes her.`"According to People, ahead of the National Geographic special announcement, Cameron said in an interview that Jack "needed to die."&nbsp;

'Titanique', which is an acclaimed Off-Broadway musical that turns one of the greatest love stories of all time into a hysterical and joyful slay-fest, held a special performance on Tuesday to both mark the 25th anniversary of James Cameron's hit film 'Titanic' as well as the show's re-opening after relocating to the Daryl Roth Theatre.

The laugh-out-loud musical starts with Céline Dion trying to hijack&nbsp;a Titanic Museum tour&nbsp; recharting the course of the film's&nbsp;beloved moments and characters with her iconic track 'My Heart Will Go On'.

The musical breathes joyful comedy into the tragic love story. We also see&nbsp;Dion as a character on the show. She interjects herself into Jack and Rose's love story in the most hilarious way.

Dion is played by the glorious Marla Mindelle, who doesn't just mimic her infamous tone but also nails her effervescent personality. The show has been co-created by Mindelle, co-star Constantine Rousouli (who plays Jack) and director Tye Blue.

"We do different things in the show each night," Rousouli told People at a post-show gathering. "Marla, particularly, is genius when it comes to thinking of those things on the fly. There's a part of the show where she tells a different story each night, and Carrie St. Louis (Rose) and I have to act it out. Tonight, she told a true story about Cameo requests Carrie had been getting where she was asked to pretend she was a giant. None of us had any idea that was coming."

"You can't do that sort of thing on Broadway," Rousouli added. "We kind of take the rulebook for traditional musicals and throw it out the window."

Described as a "one-of-a-kind musical voyage bursting with nostalgia and heart", 'Titanique' recently relocated to Daryl Roth Theatre in New York City.&nbsp;

The laugh-out-loud musical starts with Céline Dion trying to hijack a Titanic Museum tour recharting the course of the film's beloved moments and characters with her iconic track 'My Heart Will Go On'. The musical breathes joyful comedy into the tragic love story. We also see Dion as a character on the show. She interjects herself into Jack and Rose's love story in the most hilarious way. Dion is played by the glorious Marla Mindelle, who doesn't just mimic her infamous tone but also nails her effervescent personality. The show has been co-created by Mindelle, co-star Constantine Rousouli (who plays Jack) and director Tye Blue. "Marla, particularly, is genius when it comes to thinking of those things on the fly. Tonight, she told a true story about Cameo requests Carrie had been getting where she was asked to pretend she was a giant. None of us had any idea that was coming." 'Titanique' celebrates 25th anniversary of 'Titanic' with special Off-Broadway musical performance

Kate Winslet has revealed that she will re-watch 'Titanic' to mark the film's 25th anniversary which is just days away. James Cameron's tragic love story had released in US on December 19, 1997 and featured Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead.&nbsp; 
 
Winslet and Cameron have reunited for 'Avatar: The Way of Water' which is set for a December 16 release worldwide.&nbsp;

While doing press for the 'Avatar' sequel, Winslet revealed that she will likely watch 'Titanic' in honor of the anniversary, despite disliking watching her own movies. 
 
"Well, I might. I mean, I'm just not very good at watching myself on screen. It's not just ‘Titanic,’ like I don't like watching myself in anything," she told 'Good Morning America' on Monday.

"I guess I probably will watch it. … You know people are talking about the 25 years — for us, it's actually longer," she added.&nbsp;

"I'm 47 years old now, guys, and I turned 21 when we were shooting that movie. So, it's like half my lifetime ago," she said of the Oscar-winning film. 
"It's amazing and incredible to have been part of something that, you know, [is] so steeped in nostalgia for people and still resonates with people in the way that it does," Winslet said. "It's a huge, huge honor that people still love something that I was a part of all those years ago." 
 
The film received 13 nominations at the Oscars that year including a Best Actress nomination for Winslet for playing Rose in the film.&nbsp; 
 
Winslet had earlier revealed that her journey in the film wasn't easy. "I was scared of Hollywood. A big, scary place where everyone had to be thin and look a certain way. And I knew that I did not look that way or feel like I fit there, so if I was ever going to belong, I had to earn my place. And to me, I hadn’t earned it," she had said in an earlier interview.&nbsp;

Cameron recently agreed with what Winslet had to say about her journey to stardom.&nbsp;

"I think Kate came out of ‘Titanic’ a bit traumatized by the scale of the production and her responsibility within it," he told the Radio Times, according to the Daily Mail. "We've both been eager over time to work together again, to see what the other is about at this point in our lives and careers. She's very large and in charge on set. You'd swear she was producing the film."

The watch, frozen in time, belonged to Oscar Woody, who died along with 1,520 others while travelling on the luxurious cruise ship that sank in the Atlantic ocean after hitting an iceberg.&nbsp;

Wood's body was discovered after 10 days. Among the&nbsp;treasured items, his broken watch was also found, which was then handed to his wife.

The watch's screen was smashed and his two hands snapped off. His frozen watch shows the time the ship submerged into the cold North Atlantic ocean. The Titanic reportedly sank at 21 minutes past two on April 14, 1912.

Other items sold at the auction include a first-class menu card, a list of first-class passengers list and an ornate dessert plate.&nbsp;

The first class menu that showed plover on toast was sold for&nbsp;£50,000 ($ 59,120), while the passenger list was sold for&nbsp;£41,000 ($48,478).

An ornate plate was sold for&nbsp;£20,000 ($23,648) and a section of a column from the&nbsp;'a&nbsp;la carte'&nbsp;restaurant was sold&nbsp;for £23,000 ($27,195).

Earlier, during an auction in 2017, a fur coat owned by a first-class stewardess was sold for&nbsp;£150,000 ($177,361). In the same year, a letter by a Titanic passenger Oscar Holverson was sold for £126,000 ($148,983).

A new breathtaking video went viral showing the Titanic’s 200-pound anchor chain, enormous portside anchor, and single-ended boiler that was dropped to the seafloor as the ship split into two parts and sank more than 110 years ago. This expedition lasted for eight days and took place in May.

The video was shot by diving tour company OceanGate Expeditions, and it shows an astounding level of textures and hues that have not been seen by human eyes since April 12, 1992. The team was able to zoom in on particular places with a resolution of about 80,000 pixels (8k).

However, experts believe that even though such visits to the ship are exciting, they also believe that over the years, expeditions such as James Cameron’s infamous dive in the year 2001 and salvage missions have further compromised the 108-year-old hull’s structural integrity.

The gigantic ship had 2,224 passengers and crew on board. Of those, 1,517 perished when the enormous ship struck an iceberg.
