According to Sydney Morning Herald, representatives of CA were also handed a printed copy of the text messages and images by a representative of the former staffer in January 2019.</p>

The emails sent by the staffer to CA were addressed to Christine Harman, the organisation`s head of legal affairs, and shared with a select group of senior staff at the time. "In Harman's response in early November, the request was declined on the basis that it was a dispute between the staffer and two employees of Cricket Tasmania, as Paine was not a CA contracted player at the time of the text exchanges in November 2017 on the night before and the morning of the first Test of that summer`s Ashes series. A CA integrity investigation of the matter concluded in May 2018 that the 36-year-old had not transgressed in a manner that would bring a charge under its code of conduct.

<p>Smith was forced to step down as the captain after the ball-tampering rocked Cricket Australia in 2018. After on-field cameras caught Australian batter, Cameron Bancroft, trying to rough up one side of the ball during a match against South Africa, Smith, his deputy David Warner were suspended for 12 months. Bancroft was suspended for nine months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Smith was barred from holding a leadership position within the team for two years after the events of Cape Town, with that ban elapsing over a year ago," sen.Com.Au added on Saturday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reports also added that pacer Cummins will be the top choice, however, there is another possibility that Smith could be appointed as vice-captain to support Cummins.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Paine's controversy has surrounded Australian cricket around unwanted problems just before the crucial five-Test Ashes series against traditional rivals England.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With an emotional apology, the teary-eyed Tim Paine resigned as captain of the Australia Test cricket team over sending inappropriate text messages to a female co-worker in 2017.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 36-year-old broke down while reading the statement during a press conference as he apologised to his wife, who was apparently aware of the messages but chose to stick by him.&nbsp;</p>
