<p>India's Tejas Aircraft is indigenously designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a government-run aerospace and defence firm. Tejas is the world's lightest fighter aircraft and was recently showcased in a big manner at the largest defence-aerospace show in Asia- Aero India. The Tejas aircraft enthralled the audience by performing aerobatic manoeuvres and flying in formations. The Indian Air Force has two operational squadrons of Tejas (a little over 30 aircraft), based at Air Force Station Sulur in Tamil Nadu.</p>

<p>According to the Indian Government, a handful of foreign nations had expressed interest in purchasing the Tejas aircraft from India. At the recently-concluded Aero India, a huge emphasis was laid by the Indian Government on showcasing the indigenous Tejas aircraft and the Dhruv-series of Advanced Light Helicopters, for sale to friendly-foreign nations. While the Tejas is of indigenous design, several crucial components such as its radar, engine, ejection seat etc. are of foreign origin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India and Argentina have agreed to firm up ties whilst simultaneously agreeing to increase engagement in defence and trade. The Latin American country has shown interest in India's indigenously developed TEJAS fighter aircraft, manufactured under the 'Make&nbsp;in India' campaign for its Air Force.</p>

<p>"EAM, acknowledging Argentine interest in the Made in India TEJAS fighter aircrafts for Argentine Air Force, highlighted importance of the proposal in enhancing strategic quotient of the bilateral relationship."&nbsp;read the joint press statement released after the Joint Commission Meeting (JCM).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The JCM took place between India's external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar and Argentina's foreign minister Santiago Cafiero. It is pertinent to note that apart from Argentina, countries such as Australia, Egypt, the USA, Indonesia, and the Philippines have also shown interest in LCA aircraft which is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). However, Argentina is the first country in Latin America to show interest in Tejas, which is a single-engine, lightweight supersonic fighter.</p>

This development comes in the backdrop of more and more countries being keen to use local currencies for trade instead of the dollar.</p>

<p>In the past, India has used the Rupee-Rial and Rupee-Ruble mechanism to trade with Iran and Russia. In July, India's central bank RBI issued an order that allowed international trade in rupee, a move that not only benefits Russia but many countries in the neighbourhood.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Argentina has said that India has expressed its support for the country's membership in an expanded BRICS grouping. This has been part of ongoing discussions between the two foreign ministers, dating back to the bilateral meeting between the two ministers on the sidelines of the Bali G20 Foreign ministers' meet, held earlier this year in July.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Countries like Iran, and Algeria are&nbsp;also keen to become a member of the over-decade-old grouping which has Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.</p>

<p>While Argentina calls it Malvinas Islands, the UK calls it Falkland island, and both fought over it in the early 1980s. Argentina has also extended support to India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group and the country's upcoming G20 Presidency.</p>

<p>The External Affairs minister was on a visit to South America, during which he visited Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. While in Brazil and Argentina, EAM co-chaired the Joint Commission Meetings (JCM) with his counterparts, in Paraguay he inaugurated the premises of the newly opened Indian Embassy which started functioning in January 2022. This was EAM’s first visit to the South American region in the current capacity.</p>

<p>When asked about qualities that make Tejas a state-of-the-art fighting machine, Tolani mentioned four-channel digital flyby wire. He said that the cockpit made fully of glass makes handling of the plane more effective. Tejas is capable of firing air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.</p>

<p>"It will be a mainstay of Indian Air Force as it is evolving day-by-day," said Tolani drawing attention to significant improvements that have been made in the fighter plane in recent years.</p>

<p>In an address at a conference on the Indian aerospace sector, the Chief of Air Staff also talked about the need for developing asymmetric capabilities to bolster the IAF's overall strength in view of challenges from China.</p>

<p>"Looking at the northern neighbour, we have to have niche technologies which must be built in-house by our own industry for reasons of security," the IAF chief said.</p>

<p>Emphasising that India becoming self-reliant in the defence sector is crucial for dealing with various challenge, Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria said the IAF is looking at procuring around 350 aircraft from within the country in the next two decades.</p>

<p>At the same time, he noted that it is a rough projection.</p>

<p>The IAF chief also said the Tejas light combat aircraft project has instilled confidence in the aerospace industry in India and that it has huge potential to grow further.</p>

<p>The defence minister said Tejas is going to be the backbone of the fighter fleet of the Indian Air Force in years to come.</p>

<p>Around three years back, the IAF had issued an initial tender for procurement of 83 Tejas aircraft, a four-and-half generation combat jet.</p>

<p>"LCA-Tejas incorporates a large number of new technologies many of which were never attempted in India. The indigenous content of LCA-Tejas is 50 percent in Mk1A variant which will be enhanced to 60 percent,' Singh said.</p>

<p>The defence minister said that aircraft maker Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has already set up second-line manufacturing facilities at its Nasik and Bengaluru divisions.</p>

<p>"Equipped with the augmented infrastructure the HAL will steer LCA-Mk1A production for timely deliveries to the IAF," he said.</p>

<p>Singh said the Tejas programme would act as a catalyst for transforming the Indian aerospace manufacturing ecosystem into a vibrant, self-sustaining one.</p>

<p>"I thank the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi for this historic decision taken by the CCS today, " the defence minister said.</p>

Kangana Ranaut begins prep for her next outing, says 'I gave Bollywood its 1st action heroine'

<p>India's first homegrown fighter aircraft has been deployed at the western front along the Pakistan border amid rising tensions with China along the Line of Actual Control(LAC).</p>

<p>"The LCA Tejas was deployed by the Indian Air Force on the western front close to the Pakistan border to take care of any possible action by the adversary there," government sources told ANI.</p>

<p>Tejas is a single-engined, lightweight, highly agile, multi-role supersonic fighter. It has quadruplex digital fly-by-wire Flight Control System (FCS) with associated advanced flight control laws. The first LCA squadron – No. 45 Squadron ‘Flying Daggers’ – equipped with IOC-standard aircraft became operational in July 2016.</p>

<p>The fighter which has been deployed at the western front (LoC) is the Mark 1 version with air-to-air refuelling (AAR) and beyond visual range (BVR) capabilities as well as updated avionics and flight control software.</p>

<p>The IAF and the Defence Ministry are expected to finalise the deal for the 83 Mark1A aircraft by the end of this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mark1A is the advance version of Mark 1 with better avionics and flight control software, it fulfils all requirements of India Air Force. Mark 1A light fighter will have the same fuselage and General Electric (GE) F-404 engine as the Mark 1.</p>

<p>If the deal is signed by the end of this year then the delivery of the first Tejas Mark1A aircraft is expected to start in 2023.</p>

<p><strong>Deployment of LCH</strong></p>

<p>Recently India deployed it's two prototype twin-engined multirole light combat helicopter (LCH) apart from heavy lifter Chinook and heavy-duty Apache attack helicopter. IAF vice chief Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora also took sortie in the LCH and examined its capabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the twin-engined multirole rotorcraft conducted a simulated attack on a high-altitude target after which it landed at “one of the most treacherous helipads in the region”, HAL had said.</p>

<p>The need for LCH rose at the time of Kargil war when a number of IAF attack helicopters targetted enemies sitting at the peak of the mountains.&nbsp;</p>

<p>LCH is capable of operating at the world's highest battle airfields (14kft to 18kft depending on the payload) and is comparable to any other fighter helicopter of its class. LCH with a narrow fuselage has pilot and co-pilot/gunners in tandem configuration incorporating a number of stealth features, armour protection and night attack capabilities.</p>

<p>“It is the lightest attack helicopter in the world designed and developed by HAL to meet the specific and unique requirements of the Indian armed forces reflecting the crucial role of HAL in Atma Nirbhar Bharat”, Mr R Madhavan, CMD, HAL, said.</p>

<p>The IAF and the Indian Army together need around 160 LCHs. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) had approved the proposal for an initial batch of 15 LCHs. The IAF issued Request for Proposal (RFP) for 15 Limited Series Production (LSP) helicopter (10 for IAF and 5 for Army) and HAL has been submitted. Price negotiation has also been completed with the order expected soon.</p>

<p><strong>Deployment of Rudra</strong></p>

<p>Rudra is also a homegrown product which is a weaponised version of HAL manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter (Dhruv). "The LCA Tejas was deployed by the Indian Air Force on the western front close to the Pakistan border to take care of any possible action by the adversary there," government sources told ANI. Tejas is a single-engined, lightweight, highly agile, multi-role supersonic fighter. It has quadruplex digital fly-by-wire Flight Control System (FCS) with associated advanced flight control laws. The first LCA squadron – No. 45 Squadron ‘Flying Daggers’ – equipped with IOC-standard aircraft became operational in July 2016. The fighter which has been deployed at the western front (LoC) is the Mark 1 version with air-to-air refuelling (AAR) and beyond visual range (BVR) capabilities as well as updated avionics and flight control software. The IAF and the Defence Ministry are expected to finalise the deal for the 83 Mark1A aircraft by the end of this year. Mark1A is the advance version of Mark 1 with better avionics and flight control software, it fulfils all requirements of India Air Force. Mark 1A light fighter will have the same fuselage and General Electric (GE) F-404 engine as the Mark 1. If the deal is signed by the end of this year then the delivery of the first Tejas Mark1A aircraft is expected to start in 2023. Deployment of LCH Recently India deployed it's two prototype twin-engined multirole light combat helicopter (LCH) apart from heavy lifter Chinook and heavy-duty Apache attack helicopter. IAF vice chief Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora also took sortie in the LCH and examined its capabilities. One of the twin-engined multirole rotorcraft conducted a simulated attack on a high-altitude target after which it landed at “one of the most treacherous helipads in the region”, HAL had said. The need for LCH rose at the time of Kargil war when a number of IAF attack helicopters targetted enemies sitting at the peak of the mountains. LCH is capable of operating at the world's highest battle airfields (14kft to 18kft depending on the payload) and is comparable to any other fighter helicopter of its class. LCH with a narrow fuselage has pilot and co-pilot/gunners in tandem configuration incorporating a number of stealth features, armour protection and night attack capabilities. “It is the lightest attack helicopter in the world designed and developed by HAL to meet the specific and unique requirements of the Indian armed forces reflecting the crucial role of HAL in Atma Nirbhar Bharat”, Mr R Madhavan, CMD, HAL, said. The IAF and the Indian Army together need around 160 LCHs. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) had approved the proposal for an initial batch of 15 LCHs. The IAF issued Request for Proposal (RFP) for 15 Limited Series Production (LSP) helicopter (10 for IAF and 5 for Army) and HAL has been submitted. Price negotiation has also been completed with the order expected soon. <p>This is the probably the first reported incident involving an LCA Tejas aircraft ever since it was inducted into the Indian Air Force.</p>

<p>This is the second incident in the last one week where an IAF fighter plane has had to jettison its fuel tank.</p>

<p>Last week, a Jaguar had to drop its external stores including fuel tanks and practice bombs after a bird hit resulted in engine flame right before take off from Ambala airbase.</p>

<p>“Today was the final practise session before the opening display for LIMA 2019, commencing 26th March 2019. IAF’s Tejas (LCA) during the practise session today at Langkawi International Airport, Malaysia,” the IAF tweeted.</p>

<p>The IAF also posted pictures and a video of the Tejas aircraft practising. The Langkawi International Maritime Aero Expo (LIMA-2019) is planned in Langkawi, Malaysia from March 26 to March 30, which will provide an opportunity to the IAF air-warriors to interact with their Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) counterparts and foster close relationship between the two services.</p>

<p>This will serve as a foundation for any future interaction with the Malaysian Air Force. It will also provide an opportunity to RMAF to assess the capabilities of LCA, an official statement said.</p>

The Langkawi International Maritime Aero Expo (LIMA-2019) is planned in Langkawi, Malaysia from March 26 to March 30, which will provide an opportunity to the IAF air-warriors to interact with their Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) counterparts and foster close relationship between the two services. This will serve as a foundation for any future interaction with the Malaysian Air Force. It will also provide an opportunity to RMAF to assess the capabilities of LCA, an official statement said.

<p>Army chief General Bipin Rawat Thursday took to the skies in the home-grown Light Combat Aircraft Tejas at the Aero India show here and described the fighter jet as a "wonderful aircraft" that would add to the air power.</p>

<p>Sitting behind the pilot in a two-seater trainer variant of the Tejas, General Rawat took a sortie, a day after the HAL-made fighter jet received the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) at the air show, signalling that it was combat ready.</p>

<p>"Flight in the LCA was a wonderful experience," General Rawat said, after the sortie in the skies above the Yelahanka Air Force Station, north of Bengaluru.</p>

<p>"It was an experience of a lifetime," he said after a 30-minute jet ride.</p>

<p>He said the avionics in Tejas was good and "it is a wonderful aircraft."</p>

<p>He also said the LCA targeting systems were good.</p>

<p>"If it gets added to the inventory, it will add to air power," said the Army chief.</p>

<p>"We did normal manoeuvres. We did not do a loop," he said.</p>

<p>The FOC Certificate and Release to Service Document (RSD) were handed over to the Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa on the opening day of Aero India 2019 on Wednesday.</p>

<p>FOC involves addition of key capabilities to the Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) aircraft which are Beyond Visual Range Missile capabilities.</p>

<p>Air-to-Air Refuelling, Air-to-Ground FOC earmarked weapons and general flight envelope expansion.</p>

<p>Initial Operational Clearance for the aircraft was given in 2013 and IOC standard Aircraft were inducted into IAF No.45 Squadron in July 2016.</p>

<p>The IAF squadron has since flown over 1,500 sorties successfully on the aircraft.</p>

<p>The launch aims to expand the firing envelope as well as to demonstrate safe operation of the aircraft during missile plume ingestion into the aircraft engine under worst case scenarios.&nbsp</p>

<p>Defence Ministry officials said the test firing of the missile from a Tejas jet was carried out yesterday off the Goa coast and it met all operational requirements.</p>

<p>Earlier, Tejas was given clearance for deployment of armaments and other missiles.</p>

<p>The Indian Air Force (IAF) had ordered 40 Tejas Mark-1 version and a request for proposal (RFP) was issued to HAL by the IAF in December for procurement of another batch of 83 Tejas at a cost of around Rs 50,000 crore.</p>

<p>Officials said the successful launch of the BVR missile will expedite issuance of the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) to the aircraft developed by state-run aerospace behemoth Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).</p>

<p>"The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) successfully fired Derby air-to-air BVR Range missile to expand the firing envelope as well as to demonstrate safe operation of the aircraft," the Defence Ministry said in a statement.</p>

<p>It said the missile was launched from the LCA piloted by Wing Commander Siddharth Singh yesterday from the firing range off the Goa coast after the exhaustive study of the missile separation characteristics.</p>

<p>Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman complimented the DRDO and other agencies involved in making Tejas a world-class aircraft.<br />
DRDO Chairman S Christopher said with this firing, the Tejas has achieved another major milestone towards FOC certification.<br />
"Integration of Derby, a BVR class missile, is one of the major objectives of Final Operational Clearance (FOC) of LCA Tejas," said the ministry.</p>

<p>The aircraft was tracked by two other Tejas aircraft in close formation to capture the firing event in the specially instrumented high-speed cameras for detailed analysis of the test launch of the missile.</p>

<p>The entire planning, practice sorties and final firing were carried out by ADA and its National Flight Test Centre (NFTC).</p>

<p>"Based on the successful integration and demonstration, Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (RCMA), a unit of DRDO has cleared the series production aircraft of Squadron 45, to be equipped with Derby operational capability," the Ministry said.</p>

<p>It said Tejas has successfully completed a series of captive flight trials to clear Derby for the full operational capability.</p>
