<p>There are more billionaires in the world right now than ever before, according to Forbes which released its World’s Billionaires List in 2024, on Tuesday (Apr 2). It also features&nbsp;American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift who, for the first time, joined the list of the world’s richest people.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>About the Forbes’ list</strong></h2>

<p>The Forbes’ annual ranking of the world’s richest people shows that not only are there more billionaires than ever before but also that they are collectively worth a record-setting amount with their combined assets estimated at $14.2 trillion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the list, there are a total of 2,781 billionaires in the world, with 141 new names joining this year, including Taylor Swift. The number in 2024 breaks the record set in 2021, by 26 people.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is also worth noting that the cost of living crisis, the pandemic, wars, and instability across the world have had very little impact on the billionaires as their collective wealth, in the past decade or so, has risen 120 per cent.</p>

<p>Around two-thirds of the list’s members are worth more than a year ago, with only one-fourth of them becoming poorer. However, much of these gains, according to Forbes, came from the top 20 which added a combined total of $700 billion in wealth since last year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The United States tops the list with a record 813 billionaires who are worth $5.7 trillion. This was followed by China (including Hong Kong), with 473 worth $1.7 trillion. India ranked third with a record 200 billionaires who have assets amounting to $954 billion.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Top 3 richest people in the world in 2024</strong></h2>

<p>LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, French luxury goods titan Bernard Arnault and his family topped the list with an estimated $233 billion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He held the top spot for the second time in a row after earning $22 billion more than in 2023, thanks to another record year for his conglomerate LVMH.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Arnault was followed by Elon Musk, Tesla CEO and billionaire who is worth $195 billion. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos secured the third place on the list and is worth an estimated $194 billion.</p>

<h2><strong>Taylor Swift and the richest newcomer</strong></h2>

<p>Swift, with an estimated worth of $1.1 billion, has marked yet another milestone, by becoming the first musician to join the 2024 ranks based solely on songwriting and performing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Forbes also attributed this rise to the American pop star’s record-breaking first leg of the Eras Tour which is the first to surpass $1 billion in revenue. The 34-year-old is among the 265 newcomers to feature on Forbes’ list this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The richest newcomer on the list was Italy’s Andrea Pignataro, a former Salomon Brothers bond trader who launched financial software firm ION Group in 1999 and has grown it since through several high-profile acquisitions. He is worth an estimated $27.5 billion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taylor Swift was voted the Artist of the Year at the 12th annual iHeartRadio Music Awards. The event took place in Los Angeles on Monday. The Grammy winner did not attend the event but sent a pre-recorded message for her fans in which she teased new projects and said, "exciting things coming up."<br />

After *NSYNC's Lance Bass and Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean introduced Swift as the award winner — as well as the winner for Pop Artist of the Year and Tour of the Year — a video of the hitmaker played on the big screen at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.&nbsp;<br />

Swift led the nominations this year with nine awards, followed by Jelly Roll, SZA and 21 Savage with eight nods each and Olivia Rodrigo at seven.<br />

<p>Don't we all just love a throwback moment that takes us on a nostalgic ride and brings back cherished memories? Well, Taylor Swift is having one such moment and she is taking her fans all the way back to the 1990 Easter celebration.</p>

<p>In an Instagram post on Sunday, Taylor Nation, Swift's management team, shared a throwback clip of a baby Taylor in her mother Andrea Swift's arms, dressed in a bunny suit. The caption read, "Dropping easter eggs since 1989. What’s your favourite that you’ve found through the eras?," referring&nbsp;to&nbsp;Swift's birth year and her habit of dropping Easter eggs and leaving hidden messages for her fans.</p>

<p>Australian police are investigating claims Taylor Swift's dad assaulted a photographer when the star and her entourage were disembarking a superyacht in the early hours of Tuesday morning.</p>

<p>"Police have been told a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2:30 am, before leaving the location," police spokeswoman Alicia McCumstie told AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now under way by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command."&nbsp;</p>

<p>But a law enforcement source and the alleged victim, veteran photographer Ben McDonald, both told AFP the man was Swift's dad, Scott Swift.</p>

<p>McDonald said he had been photographing the US pop icon on a "super yacht" in Sydney Harbour, an apparent celebration after the last of her four sellout gigs in the city.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>'Punched me in the chops'</strong></h2>

<p>McDonald alleges Swift's security detail put an umbrella in his face to prevent him from taking photographs as the singing star was walking down the jetty to a waiting vehicle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Swift departed, McDonald claimed a man confronted him and "took it further". "He punched me in the chops," McDonald said.</p>

<p>"I didn't know who he was," said McDonald, who said he initially believed it may have been an overzealous local security contractor "trying to impress the Americans".</p>

<p>"It was a shock. That's never happened to me in 26 years."&nbsp;</p>

<p>A spokesperson for Taylor Swift responded to the allegation with allegations of their own, claiming there had been pushing and aggression from unnamed people at the waterside.</p>

<p>"Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water," the spokesperson told AFP.</p>

<p>Swift's representative did not comment on the alleged assault by the star's father, or respond to requests for further clarification about what took place.</p>

<p>The megastar is currently in the midst of a worldwide blockbuster Eras Tour, which is expected to be the highest-grossing musical tour of all time at over $1 billion, according to Pollstar.</p>

<p>She is due to head to Singapore this week for further tour dates.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Police refused to comment on whether Scott Swift had been contacted or questioned in advance of the group's departure.</p>
