On Thursday, Maezawa shared that the mission will take a little longer. "We're not sure when the flight will be, but we will give you all an update once we know more," Maezawa said in a social media post, thereby stating what was already certain for those closely following the space sector.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was in the year 2018&nbsp;that Yusaku Maezawa announced the project which would take eight individuals along with himself on a week-long return trip to the moon's orbit on board a SpaceX Starship and Superheavy rocket. At the closest, they'd hoped to be at least 200 km above the lunar surface. The initiative is aimed at promoting art and global peace, it was said. The crew includes artists from across domains, hailing from South Korea, the USA, the UK, Japan, the Czech Republic, India and Ireland.</p>

<p>After the maiden flight in April, efforts are underway to ensure a second test flight sometime in late 2023. However, given the various US Government approvals for the same, it is expected to take time. With no reliable rocket in sight for Maezawa's dearMoon mission, there seems to be no clarity on the mission's progress. Even if the second flight of Starship were to be completely successful, SpaceX would have to perform a full-fledged uncrewed mission to Lunar orbit and back to Earth&nbsp;in order to prove their systems. That is what pushes Maezawa's goal further into the future.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Elon Musk-led SpaceX has signed a deal for launching up to four satellites of Europe, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has reported. These are flagship navigation and secure communication satellites. The report however said that European Commission, the European Union's (EU) executive arm, along with EU member states would still have to give their seal of approval for the deal to go ahead.</p>

<p>Recently, the European Space Agency (ESA) signed an agreement with SpaceX for two launches set to take place next year. Two Galileo satellites would be sent into orbit during each launch.</p>

<p>The WSJ quoted Javier Benedicto, the ESA's director of navigation, who said that the agreement called for SpaceX launching these satellites using its Falcon 9 rocket.</p>

The probe will travel 2.2 billion miles (3.5 billion kilometres) through space and reach Psyche, which is the largest of the several metal-rich asteroids in our Solar System.</p>

<p>The asteroid is roughly 173 miles (279 km) across at its widest. It is located on the outer fringes of the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.</p>

<p>It is considered that Psych is a remnant of core of an ancient protoplanet. The Psyche probe is estimated to reach the asteroid in August 2029.</p>

<p>The launch of the Psych probe was streamed live on NASA TV and also on NASA's social media handles.</p>

<p>A Reuters report suggested that the FAA might expedite a launch license for the Starship, possibly as early as October, pending successful resolution of the identified issues.</p>

China pushes for second 12,000-satellite megaconstellation to challenge SpaceX dominance

<p>On Monday, Canada’s Telesat said that it had reached a deal with SpaceX to begin launching its low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites in 2026, with the intention of offering international internet access from space by the end of 2027.</p>

<p>Since LEO satellites orbit 36 times closer to Earth than conventional ones, information is transmitted and received more quickly, improving broadband coverage even in remote locations.</p>

<p>The LEO constellation launched by Telesat is named Lightspeed.</p>

<p>“It is another big step forward on our path to get Lightspeed up there,” Reuters quoted Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg as saying.</p>

<p>The deal, which covers 14 launches, was not valued. According to the firm, the constellation will be deployed by the end of 2027, when Telesat intends to offer a global service. Each Falcon 9 rocket will be able to launch up to 18 satellites into orbit. This comes three years after the original deadline.</p>

<p>Telesat’s stock declined 5.3 per cent to Canadian $21.99 ($16.20), following an early trade gain of about 3.2 per cent.</p>

<p>Last month, Telesat said that by hiring Canada’s MDA Ltd to construct 198 satellites, it would save $2 billion. Thales Alenia Space received the contract in 2021.</p>

<p>Thales informed Telesat roughly two years ago that it could no longer match with the agreed price and timetable due to “COVID hit, and supply chain issues hit, and inflation hit,” Reuters cited Goldberg.</p>

<p>The 14 launches will be carried out by SpaceX, which “gives us scope to expand the constellation above and beyond the 198 (satellites) that we've committed to with MDA,” Goldberg told Reuters.</p>

<p>With the goal of serving corporate customers, such as mobile operators, governments, aircraft and shipping corporations, Telesat is entering the competitive new world of LEO networks.</p>

<p>The majority of the LEO competition, which also includes Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and its Project Kuiper and SpaceX’s Starlink network, is geared at the consumer market.</p>

<p>Large bulk launch contracts like Telesat’s SpaceX contract have significantly reduced the U.S. launch supply in recent years due to satellite constellations.</p>

<p>The largest commercial launch contract in history was won by Amazon in 2022 for 83 missions across different launch firms to deploy its Kuiper network. With the aid of its expanding Starlink constellation, SpaceX hopes to roughly double its current yearly launch rate by 2023.</p>

Crew-6 commander Stephen Bowen, a former submariner, told CBS News that he looked forward to witnessing "the nice ocean air and peaceful calm seas. That'll be nice to get back to." Pilot Woody Hobury said he was looking forward to a "real shower."</p>

<p>On March 2, Crew-6 was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. They spent 185 days and 22 hours in space, orbiting the Earth 2,976 times and travelling 78.9 million miles. Throughout their mission, the Crew-6 astronauts welcomed seven visiting vehicles. They also carried out three spacewalks. Al Neyadi joined Bowen for a third excursion to retrieve a failed antenna package and do other maintenance.</p>

<p>Station commander Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitri Petelin and NASA astronaut Frank Rubio were launched to the station last September and will return to Earth 12 days later. Crew-7 members, launched on August 26, will replace Bowen and company. <p>Lift-off as per the news agency report is planned for Saturday (August 26th), at 3:27 am (07:27 GMT) from Florida's NASA Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A. Sunday (August 27th) has been designated as the backup opportunity.</p>

<p>The crew members will join seven colleagues who are aboard the ISS. After a few days, the previous occupants, who reached the orbital platform with Crew-6 mission, will leave for Earth.</p>

<h2><strong>Experiments in Space</strong></h2>

<p>The crew will spend six months aboard the&nbsp;orbital platform, and will carry out science experiments. Among these&nbsp;experiments is one which will have them&nbsp;collecting samples during a spacewalk.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This, as per AFP, will help determine whether the ISS releases microorganisms through its life support system vents, and will help scientists understand if these microorganisms can survive and reproduce in space.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another important experiment the ISS crew will undertake includes the assessment of physiological differences between sleep on Earth and in space.</p>

<p>The US Justice Department on Thursday (August 24) sued Elon Musk's SpaceX over hiring practices. In a statement, the Justice Department said that it filed a lawsuit against SpaceX for discriminating against asylees and refugees in hiring. "The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)," the statement said.</p>

<p>The statement added that over several years, SpaceX wrongly claimed that under federal regulations known as “export control laws,” it could hire only American citizens and lawful permanent residents, sometimes referred to as “green card holders.”</p>

<p>"Export control laws impose no such hiring restrictions," the department further said.</p>

<h2><strong>The investigation</strong></h2>

<p>Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division said on Thursday the department's investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law.</p>

<p>"Our investigation also found that SpaceX recruiters and high-level officials took actions that actively discouraged asylees and refugees from seeking work opportunities at the company," Clarke added.</p>

<h2><strong>The discrimination during stages of hiring process</strong></h2>

<p>The lawsuit alleges that SpaceX discriminated against asylees and refugees based on citizenship status at multiple stages of the hiring process. SpaceX discouraged asylees and refugees from applying for open positions, it failed to consider applications submitted by asylees and refugees, and it also hired only American citizens and lawful permanent residents, from September 2018 to September 2020.</p>

<p>"The United States seeks fair consideration and back pay for asylees and refugees who were deterred or denied employment at SpaceX due to the alleged discrimination. The United States also seeks civil penalties in an amount to be determined by the court and policy changes to ensure it complies with the INA’s nondiscrimination mandate going forward," the statement further said.</p>

This comes after the rocket was originally supposed to launch on early Thursday (August 17) but was delayed due to the impact of Hurricane Hilary on rocket recovery operations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>OCISLY is a SpaceX autonomous spaceport drone ship (ASDS) that is operated out of the Port of Long Beach, California, which was previously based in Florida from 2015 to 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the report, this was SpaceX’s 15th launch and landing for this particular booster just one short of its reuse record held by two different Falcon 9 first stages.<br />

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launch creates temporary hole in Earth's Ionosphere

<p>Beating Elon Musk’s SpaceX, a Chinese aerospace company called LandSpace has successfully launched a rocket using methane and liquid oxygen. The rocket, called Zhuque-2, blasted off Wednesday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the Gobi desert. It successfully deposited a test payload into the sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). LandSpace has become the first aerospace company to achieve this feat globally.</p>

<p>Wednesday’s launch marked the second lift-off attempt for Zhuque-2 after its first launch failed in December last year.</p>

<h2><strong>Why Methane-powered engines are sought after?</strong></h2>

<p>Methane-powered engines are crucial for the aerospace industry as they offer lucrative business prospects. Such engines are highly sought after because of their high performance and low operational cost. Notably, methane can be produced in space itself by synthesising water and carbon dioxide.</p>

<p>This technology is even more suitable for reusable rockets, making it the front-running design in the new era of rocketry.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This year so far, two launch attempts with the use of methane-powered engines have already ended in failure. Two methane-powered rockets, the Terran 1 from Relativity Space in the US and SpaceX’s Starship, failed to reach space in their maiden attempts.</p>

<h2><strong>Chinese aerospace industry on a roll</strong></h2>

<p>Beijing Tianbing Technology Co, another Chinese aerospace company, made history in April this year by becoming the first private sector company in the world to reach orbit in its first try. It launched its first rocket Tianlong-2 from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert, and successfully deposited a small remote-sensing satellite into sun-synchronous orbit.</p>

<p>As quoted by media outlets, engineer Federico Di Vruno of the SKA Observatory and the International Astronomical Union, said: "This study represents the latest effort to better understand satellite constellations' impact on radio astronomy."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Previous workshops on Dark and Quiet Skies theorized about this radiation, our observations confirm it is measurable," Di Vruno added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Elon Musk-owned company has already authorised 84 administrations around the world and has 1.5 million active users of its low-latency broadband services.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Not just SpaceX, OneWeb has over 600 and Amazon plans to launch its first set of satellites in 2024, and with the growing list, the situation becomes even more concerning.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Cees Bassa, who is an astronomer at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON) and a co-author of the recent paper said in a statement: "With LOFAR, we detected radiation between 110 and 188 MHz from 47 out of the 68 satellites that were observed."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This frequency range includes a protected band between 150.05 and 153 MHz specifically allocated to radio astronomy by the International Telecommunications Union," Bassa added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Researchers said that the radiation appears to be unintentional and they are coming from the electronics of the satellites and they are also not breaking any rules.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rules applied by the International Electrotechnical Commission over electrical devices to control electromagnetic interference are not applicable in space.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The researchers have also contacted SpaceX, which said that it is working on mitigation efforts to reduce or remove the unintentional leakage.&nbsp;</p>
