<p>Rohit Shetty's cop universe introduced two new characters in the recently released <em>Singham Again</em>. In a conversation with News18, the filmmaker explained why he waited so long to introduce a female cop to the film universe. Talking about it he said, “The wait was to get the right script and the right kind of launch for the character. Till 2018, I wasn’t even sure if there was going to be a cop universe.”<br />

He added that it was during the making of Akshay Kumar’s <em>Sooryavanshi</em>&nbsp;that he conceived the idea of coming up with a Lady Singham. “When <em>Simmba</em> worked, people accepted that we can bring in other characters and create a universe. That’s when we made <em>Sooryavanshi </em>and it was during this film that we thought of making a film with an out-and-out lady cop.”<br />

The filmmaker stated that he had to push <em>Sooryavanshi</em>, due to COVID which was initially going to be released in 2019.&nbsp;<br />

“But then suddenly, the film was in cans for two years and everything got delayed because of that. According to our original line-up, <em>Singham Again</em> was also supposed to release in 2020.”<br />

Shetty confirmed that a female-led cop film is definitely on the cards. “We still have to write it. We do have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it. There’s still time for that. I know what the character will be like and her basic story arc but I don’t know her whole journey yet as a director or writer. But a female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen, otherwise, we wouldn’t have introduced her at all. There’s a reason why we’ve emphasised on that character and her name in <em>Singham Again.”</em></p>

Answering this, Ajay said, “We not switching from one world to the other on sets we are switching from one world to the other between action and cut now you see so on set also you cannot after he's cut the shot I cannot behave like Singham and keep walking around like Singham so I have to be normal otherwise you'll go insane.”</p>

<p><em>Golmaal </em>is one of the much-loved comedy film franchises in the Hindi film industry. Much before starting the cop-universe, Rohit started the Golmaal franchise in 2006 with <em>Golmaal: Fun Unlimited</em> featuring Ajay as Gopal followed by the other films: <em>Golmaal Returns </em>(2008), <em>Golmaal 3</em> (2010) and <em>Golmaal Again</em> (2017).&nbsp;</p>

<h2>What works and what does not</h2>

<p>The last Shetty film that I had genuinely enjoyed was <em>Simmba</em>. Singh in his over-the-top cop avatar entertained and how! In <em>Singham Again,</em> I desperately waited for the actor's appearance knowing that he would be getting the best lines. And writers Milap Zaveri, Shantanu Srivastava, Vidhi Ghodgaonkar and Shetty do reserve the best lines for Singh who alone uplifts the second half with his buffoonery. Sure it is over the top but it comes as a much-needed respite amid long drawn mythology lesson.</p>

<p>Singham's first half is awfully slow. The action sequences, the picturesque locations of Kashmir, Devgn's swagger and the SUVs do not do much to uplift the film's first half. Deepika and Tiger Shroff's introduction scenes seem straight out of other films that the actors have featured in. Deepika's looks like a character from Shetty's other blockbuster Chennai Express while Shroff seemed to have been recruited directly from the sets of Baaghi while learning Kalaripayattu. Arjun Kapoor grins too much and creates less mayhem for the evil character he is poised as. All black ensemble and an errie background score also don't make this Raavan appear too dangerous.</p>

<p>The film salvages itself in the scenes where Singh uses his perfect comic timing to uplift a generic plot. There are references to<em> Gangs Of Wasseypur, Gadar </em>- all delivered by Singh that make you&nbsp;crack up. The last one hour, when the film is near its climax and all the characters assemble for a huddle much like <em>Avengers, </em>makes the film still worth your time.</p>

<p>Much like Shetty's previous films, <em>Singham Again</em> is visually stunning with rich colours and lots of aerial shots to give the narrative a larger-than-life look. It also has Shetty's quintessential action sequences.</p>

“The story is by Kshitij Patwardhan. When Kshitij met Rohit, he already had this thought that what if we marry Ramayan with the <em>Singham</em> cop universe and create this story and I think Rohit loved it. <p>Kareena Kapoor Khan has shared&nbsp;some inside&nbsp;about her and Deepika Padukone's role in Rohit Shetty's next <em>Singham Again.&nbsp;</em>In the movie that is loaded with a male-star cast, Kareena has revealed, that both her and Deepika's characters play pivotal roles in the third movie of the Singham franchise.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an interview with Variety, Kareena called the action a “completely male testosterone movie”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Further explaining, the <em>Crew</em> star said, “There's Deepika (Padukone) and me in the film, where we have very strong parts. But obviously it'll be really different, it is the big ticket Bollywood bonanza for this year, and I'm sure people will enjoy that.”</p>

Tiger Shroff is the latest addition to the starry lineup of <em>Singham Again.</em> The actor will play ACP Satya in the film which stars a bevy of stars including Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.&nbsp;<br />

According to reports, Tiger would have a special cameo appearance in <em>Singham Again. </em>A source said, "It’s a cameo appearance for Tiger Shroff in Singham Again and Rohit plans to introduce him as a new cop to the universe. Much like his Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, Tiger Shroff too will have his own distinct identity in the cop universe with traits unique to his own personality."<br />

Tiger's look comes days after the makers shared Deepika Padukone's look from the film. Both Deepika and Tiger will have cameos in <em>Singham Again </em>and eventually have their own solo franchises.&nbsp;<br />

“He has some solo portions too in <em>Singham Again, </em>which eventually leads to the core conflict. The idea is to establish two more cops with <em>Singham Again</em> leading to their own solo franchises – Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff. The cop universe will now comprise of 5 cops played by Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, and Deepika Padukone,” the source added.</p>
