The incident took place between 9.30 am&nbsp;and 9.45 am&nbsp;when constable Sateppa SK&nbsp;allegedly used his service rifle and pumped bullets on of his colleagues, an officer said.

“In an unfortunate incident, 5 BSF troops were injured on March 6, due to fratricide committed by Ct Satteppa SK at HQ 144 Bn Khasa, Amritsar. Ct Satteppa SK was also injured in the incident. The officials are yet to establish the reason for provocation that led the accused to fire at his colleagues.

But there are media reports claiming that the constable was upset for being overworked and an argument with a senior officer might have forced him to take his rifle.

Sudanese security forces shot dead four people during a crackdown on nationwide protests on Thursday, a doctors` committee said, as tens of thousands of people marched against military rule.

Security forces fired tear gas and stun grenades as protesters marched through Khartoum and the neighbouring cities of Omdurman and Bahri towards the presidential palace, Reuters witnesses said.

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said four protesters were shot dead by security forces, at least three of them in Omdurman.

Al Hadath TV quoted an adviser to military leader Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan as saying the military would not allow anyone to pull the country into chaos and that continued protests were a "physical, psychological, and mental drain on the country" and "would not achieve a political solution".

Thursday`s protests is the 11th round of major demonstrations since an Oct. 25 coup which saw Abdallah Hamdok removed and then reinstated as prime minister. The demonstrators have demanded that the military play no role in government during a transition to free elections.

The Forces of Freedom and Change coalition said that security forces "used excessive repression" on Thursday and called on "regional and international communities and human rights organizations to condemn the coup."

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrote on Twitter that he was troubled by reports of lethal force and the United States "stands with the people of Sudan, as they demand freedom, peace, and justice."

The U.N. Special Representative to Sudan, Volker Perthes, said that he was "deeply disturbed" by the deaths, adding that "all people have the right to express themselves peacefully; media have to report freely."

Security forces confronted the protesters about 2 km from the palace in the centre of the capital, a Reuters witness said.

Protesters continued facing tear gas in the city of Bahri past sundown near a blocked bridge connecting it to the capital, another Reuters witness said. Volleys of heavy tear gas followed protesters into neighbourhoods after being turned away from a bridge.

The Khartoum State Ministry of Health also said in a statement that security forces in Omdurman prevented ambulances from carrying the injured to nearby hospitals, adding that the "scale of repression exceeded expectations."

The doctors` committee said security forces arrested an injured man along with medical staff who tried to get him into an ambulance.

Sudan`s sovereign council this week reinstated powers of arrests, detentions and seizures to the intelligence service. The intelligence service justified the decision by saying that the political situation could turn "catastrophic."

Amid a communications blackout, most bridges to Khartoum were closed, with at least two blocked by shipping containers. An army checkpoint with an armoured vehicle was seen at one of the bridges that remained open.

Protesters heading towards the blocked bridge connecting Bahri to the capital chanted: "As much as we sacrifice and die, we won’t be ruled by the boot."

Internet and mobile services appeared to be disrupted in Khartoum on Thursday.

Reuters witnesses were unable to make or receive domestic and international calls and a source at a telecoms company said an order to shut down internet services had come from the state-owned Sudan National Telecommunications Corporation.

Some people managed to post images on social media showing protests in several other cities, including Port Sudan, Zalenjei, Kassala.

The doctors` committee said Thursday`s deaths brought the death toll to 52 since crackdowns on protests against military rule began in October.

"I come for the martyred. I`m not going to be tired because some people gave their lives for this. Being tired is nothing compared to that," said a nurse in Bahri who has attended all 11 protests and gave her name as Jihad.

Several young men wore gloves to allow them to throw back tear gas canisters and stun grenades.

A fourth <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/third-rohingya-shot-dead-in-bangladesh-refugee-camp-245799">Rohingya refugee was shot dead</a>, Bangladesh police said Sunday, amid growing fallout over the murder of a ruling party official that sparked a violent backlash from locals.

There has been an outbreak of violence in recent weeks at refugee camps in southeast Bangladesh, where nearly one million Rohingya live after fleeing crackdowns in Myanmar.

At least five Rohingya men have died in clashes in the settlements -- allegedly over gang violence -- while an Awami League official was shot in the head in late August at Jadimura camp in the border town of Teknaf.

Police blamed Omar Faruk's death on Rohingya hitmen, and have shot dead three refugees over the past week in connection with the incident.&nbsp;

The latest to die was 36-year-old Nur Mohammad, who officers allege was a Rohingya gang leader who arrived in Bangladesh in 1992 and was operating in the hills around the refugee camps.

Local officials say Mohammad was a drug trafficking kingpin involved in using refugees to smuggle yaba, a popular methamphetamine pill, from across the Myanmar border. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"He was arrested over Faruk's murder on Saturday. We took him to find out his weapons in a hill when his accomplices fired on police (on Sunday)," police spokesman Ikbal Hossain told AFP.

"We fired back and later found Mohammad's bullet-riddled body."

Rights groups have previously accused Bangladesh police of extrajudicial killings.

Hundreds of enraged locals living near Jadimura camp stormed the settlement after Faruk's murder, looting and vandalising scores of Rohingya shops and houses. &nbsp;

Police said they have stepped up security in the camp, but the European Commission said some refugees have fled Jadimura and were taking shelter at other sites following the violence.

Humanitarian work by aid agencies has also been disrupted, affecting some 100,000 people, the commission said. &nbsp;

Rohingya leader Mohammad Noor told AFP there was a "tense" atmosphere in the camps and refugees were "living in panic".

The incident comes in the wake of a second failed attempt to begin the repatriation of around 740,000 who fled a 2017 military offensive against the Muslim minority in Myanmar.

With Mohammad's death, at least 34 Rohingya have been killed by Bangladeshi security forces since the 2017 exodus, according to police.

A fourth Rohingya refugee was shot dead, Bangladesh police said Sunday, amid growing fallout over the murder of a ruling party official that sparked a violent backlash from locals.

One person was killed in Nepal when police opened fire on protesters after a 12-year-old boy drowned to death in a sand mining pit, officials said Monday.

Angry crowds blocked the highway holding the young boy's body in the southern district of Sarlahi on Sunday, demanding the government stop rampant sand mining of rivers which they say is putting local communities at risk.

They were also demanding compensation for the family of the victim.

Local police chief Gopal Chandra Bhattarai said that a 26-year-old man was killed "in firing to contain agitated locals".

"Police was compelled to fire after nearly two dozen police personnel were injured by stones pelted by the protesters. Unfortunately, one person died in the firing," Bhattarai told AFP.&nbsp;

The boy fell and drowned in the deep pit Saturday when he had gone for a dip in the river as the temperature rose to 35 degrees Celsius in the area.&nbsp;

His body was recovered on Sunday with help of local authorities. &nbsp;&nbsp;

A construction boom has created a high demand for stones and pebbles, depleting the Himalayan country's river resources at an alarming rate.

"We were there to demand an end to rampant sand mining. Today, one child has died, tomorrow we might lose another one," said Ramkaran Mahato, who was standing next to the victim when the bullet hit.

In recent months, Nepal has seen several protests against the communist government but police have usually resorted to water guns, tear gas or batons to control crowds.&nbsp;

Police in northern California is conducting a probe following outrage over the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old rapper who was found sleeping in his car outside a Taco Bell.

According to the Vallejo Police Department, the February 6 shooting took place after employees at the fast-food outlet late that evening called to report a Mercedes parked in the drive-thru line with a man slumped over in the driver's seat.

In a statement, police said officers responded to the call and as they approached the locked vehicle, they noticed that the driver was unresponsive and had a gun on his lap. They added that the car's transmission was in drive.

As police assessed the situation and tried to prevent the vehicle from moving forward, the statement said, things turned deadly.

"The driver ... Suddenly began to move," the police report said. "The officers told the driver to keep his hands visible, however, the driver quickly reached for the handgun on his lap.

"In fear for their own safety, the officers discharged their weapons at the driver." It was unclear how many bullets were fired.

McCoy was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has challenged the police version of events, describing the shooting as an "execution" and a clear case of racial profiling.

"There was no attempt to try to work out a peaceful solution," Marc McCoy, Willie's older brother, told the Guardian.

"The police's job is to arrest people who are breaking the law — not take the law into your own hands. You're not judge, jury and executioner ... We're never going to get over this."

McCoy's shooting follows a string of similar incidents of alleged police brutality in the US in recent years.

And this is not the first time the Vallejo Police Department has come under scrutiny following complaints of excessive force.

In 2017, a video of an officer straddling a man on the ground and punching him in the face several times prompted an uproar. Another video last year showed a Vallejo police officer repeatedly hitting a man with his flashlight as he was being restrained and handcuffed by another officer.

Vallejo police did not respond to an AFP request for comment on the McCoy case and McCoy's family could not be immediately reached.

Trinamool Congress MLA from Krishnaganj constituency, Satyajit Biswas, was shot dead by miscreants on Saturday in Bengal’s Nadia district.

Biswas was attending a Saraswati Puja celebration at Majdia-Fulbari area around 8 pm when some miscreants opened fire at him.

He was immediately rushed to the Krishnagar district hospital where he was declared dead. Doctors said that he succumbed to bullet injuries.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, his body has been sent for post mortem examination.

The incident took place after Biswas got down the stage after inaugurating the Saraswati puja event and was walking towards his car. Suddenly, several miscreants appeared and fired at him.

Trinamool Congress general secretary and state education minister Partha Chatterjee said, “We are not going to spare those who killed him. Those responsible for his death will be brought to book. BJP is responsible for this death. There are some ‘gaddars’ who have killed him.”

Chatterjee added that he has asked senior leaders of the party to reach the hospital immediately, adding that he may also leave for Nadia on Sunday.

TMC Nadia district president Gaurishankar Dutta directly blamed BJP leader Mukul Roy for the murder.&nbsp;

“Mukul Roy had been trying very hard to break TMC’s organisation in the district. This is a political murder and we are sure that this is the handiwork of the BJP,” said Dutta.

Mukul Roy couldn’t be reached over the phone for a comment.

On the other hand, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh termed the murder as a result of TMC factional feud and ruled out the allegations of BJP’s involvement.&nbsp;

“This is a politics of murder that has engulfed the state. In the last couple of months, each time a TMC leader or a supporter is killed, they blame our party. I want the truth to be revealed through the investigation and the guilty be punished,” said Ghosh. &nbsp;

Meanwhile, a huge contingent of police force has been rushed to the spot and a pistol has been recovered from the site.

A prominent Bangladeshi writer and publisher was dragged out of a shop and shot dead by unidentified attackers in central Bangladesh, ending a lull in the killings of secular bloggers and activists in the Muslim-majority country.

Shahzahan Bachchu, 60, an outspoken proponent of secular principles and owner of a publishing house 'Bishaka Prokashoni' that specialised in publishing poetry, was gunned down in his ancestral village Kakaldi in Munshiganj district last evening by five assailants.

Bachchu had gone to meet friends at a pharmacy shop near his home before Iftar, when the five attackers on two motorcycles came into the area. They blasted a crude bomb outside the pharmacy, creating panic, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

They then dragged Shahzahan out of the shop and shot him, a senior superintendent of police was quoted as saying by the daily.

Although no group has claimed responsibility, police officials from the counter-terrorism department are investigating the murder as a possible targeted attack by Islamist extremists.&nbsp;

Bachchu had previously received threats from extremist groups due to his outspoken support for secularism

Bachchu was a former district general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and was known as a free-thinking writer. His publishing house Bishaka is based in Dhaka's Banglabazar area.

Deaths of secular writers, bloggers, online activists and a publisher in attacks by suspected Islamist militants shook Bangladesh for months after the murder of atheist writer and blogger Avijit Roy in Dhaka on February 26, 2015.

Avijit's publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan was also hacked to death on October 31 the same year.

Militant groups claimed responsibility for most of these attacks and the law enforcers arrested many radical Islamists in connection with the attacks.

A Russian war correspondent who fled to Kiev after criticising Moscow's role in the conflict in eastern Ukraine was shot dead Tuesday in the Ukrainian capital, police said.

Arkadi Babchenko was the second Kremlin critic living in Kiev to be killed in less than two years, and police said they suspected the crime was linked to his work.

Pavel Cheremet, a dual Russian and Belarusian citizen, died when his car exploded in the centre of Kiev in July 2016 in still unexplained circumstances.

Police spokesman Yaroslav Trakalo said Babchenko, 41, was found bleeding by his wife after she heard shooting, adding that he died in an ambulance en route to hospital.

A colleague, journalist Osman Pashayev, wrote on Facebook that Babchenko had received three gunshots to the back in the stairwell of his building.

"The leading and obvious line of inquiry is that of his professional activities," Kiev police chief Andriy Kryshchenko told Interfax Ukraine news agency.

Babchenko fought in Chechnya's two separatist wars in the 1990s and early 2000s before becoming a respected journalist who was extremely critical of the Kremlin.&nbsp;

He wrote about the wars in a book published in France titled "La Couleur de la Guerre" (The Colour of War).

Before leaving Moscow he worked for the Russian opposition newspaper Novaya Gazeta and the liberal Echo of Moscow radio station.

He covered the conflict in eastern Ukraine between Kiev forces and pro-Russian separatists that has killed more than 10,000 people in four years, accusing the Kremlin of providing military support to the rebels.

Babchenko left Russia in February 2017 after allegedly receiving threats, living first in the Czech Republic, then in Israel, before moving to Kiev.&nbsp;

Babchenko had hosted a programme on Ukrainian private television ATR for the past year, his colleague Pashayev said.&nbsp;

An aide to the Ukrainian interior minister, Anton Guerachchenko, pointed the finger at Moscow, writing on Facebook: "The Putin regime targets those it cannot break or intimidate."

The Russian foreign ministry meanwhile demanded that the "Ukrainian authorities deploy every effort to carry out an effective inquiry."

It added on its official Facebook page: "Bloody crimes and total impunity have become routine for the Kiev regime."

A former Russian lawmaker who went into exile in Ukraine was gunned down in the centre of Kiev in March 2017.

A gunman killed two police officers and a passer-by on Tuesday before being shot dead in the centre of the Belgian city of Liege, public broadcaster RTBF said on its website and authorities said terrorism could not be ruled out as a motive.

La Libre Belgique newspaper quoted a police source as saying the gunman shouted Allahu Akbar — God is greatest in Arabic -- and RTBF said investigators believed the attacker may well have had a terrorist motive.
The man had taken a woman hostage at some point in the attack, the newspaper said.

The national anti-terrorist crisis centre, which Interior Minister Jan Jambon said on Twitter was monitoring the situation, said terrorism could not be excluded as a motive though it was also looking into other possible reasons.

"It (terrorism) is one of the questions on the table, but for the moment all scenarios are open," a spokesman for the crisis centre said.

Two other police officers had been injured, Belga news agency said. A spokeswoman for the Liege public prosecutors office confirmed that two police officers had been shot dead and the gunman "neutralised" but could not confirm other details.

A video clip of the pregnant Pakistani singer, who was shot dead during a festive ceremony in Sindh province, has surfaced, two days after the murder had taken place.

Twenty-four-year-old Samina Samoon, also known as Samina Sindhu, was in Kanga village for an event where she was singing for her audience.

As the event progressed, a man, identified as Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, asked her to stand while singing.

The singer reportedly refused to comply to his demand apparently because she was pregnant.

The denial did not go down well with Jatoi, who was allegedly inebriated and shot her dead.

However, in the video, the victim, later on, could be seen complying with the request and entertaining the attendees with her singing, as they tossed money at her.

But, just moments after she stood up, the singer was shot dead.

The video clip, which appeared on Larkano News, was shared on Twitter by one Islamabad-based human rights activist, Kapil Dev.

The 24-year-old singer was later taken to hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Her husband has demanded that the First Information Report (FIR) should charge the accused of double murder for killing his wife and unborn child.

The accused has been arrested, and an investigation has been launched in this regard.&nbsp;
