Dinorah Santana, the ex-wife and agent of Dani Alves has defended him after the Barcelona star was sent to prison on sexual assault charges. Santana said she was willing to put her entire body in 'fire' if it meant defending Alves' honour. "They are condemning Dani beforehand, without him having been tried. Dani would be incapable of dishonouring a woman. I was married to him for 10 years and I have known him for 22 years," Santana was quoted as saying by Spanish media outlets. "I would put my whole body in fire for him," she added. During their 10-year marriage, Santana and Alves had two children. Santana said nobody knew what was happening and that children were suffering seeing their father like this. "We don't believe what's going on. It's unbelievable. Not even in the worst nightmare could we imagine something like this. We are not well. Neither me nor the children." "The (children) struggle because they can't see Dani. Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been embroiled in another legal battle after a woman filed a civil suit, accusing him of raping her in a car in the early 1990s. "As a result of Tyson's rape, I suffered and continue to suffer from physical, psychological and emotional injury," said the woman, according to court filings. The woman is seeking $5 million in damages and said she was sexually assaulted when she got into Tyson's limousine. The boxer, according to the woman, started touching her and attempted to kiss her without consent. "I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me. French prosecutors said on Tuesday (January 3) that a preliminary inquiry was opened last month into "sexual assault on a vulnerable person" allegedly carried out by former Paris archbishop Michel Aupetit. The prosecutor said that the inquiry was initiated on a report filed by the diocese of Paris.

Michel Aupetit offered to resign in late 2021 following media reports of an intimate relationship with a woman in 2012 before he took on the post, allegations he has categorically denied. Pope Francis accepted the resignation.

French broadcaster BFMTV reported that the relationship was with a vulnerable person under judicial protection.

AFP quoted a source close to the case and said that the probe was looking into "email exchanges" between Aupetit and the woman. The consent of the woman would have to be confirmed in view of her mental health.

The diocese released a statement on Tuesday evening confirming that it had filed the report. As quoted by AFP, the diocese said that it was "not in a position to verify whether the facts in question are proven or whether they constitute an offence".

The clergyman's lawyer Jean Reinhart refused to comment.

"We have absolutely no knowledge of a complaint, so we cannot comment on the subject," he said.

A diocese spokeswoman in 2021 said Aupetit "had ambiguous behaviour with a person he was very close to", adding that it was "not a loving relationship", nor sexual.

But she said the offer to step down was "not a confession of guilt".

Aupetit was archbishop during the April 2019 fire that ravaged the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, regularly appearing on television to express anguish over the disaster and rally funds for the rebuilding effort.

Switzerland's lower house of parliament on Monday voted to dramatically broaden the nation's previously limited definition of rape to include sexual acts without explicit permission.

The current definition of rape in Switzerland as per AFP is limited to "forced vaginal penetration, met with a certain level of resistance by the woman".

It is widely agreed that the nation's definition needs to undergo a much-needed update that does not focus on particular sex and includes all non-consensual penetration, irrespective of whether the victim fought back.

While there might be a consensus that the definition needs to be broadened, there remains a heated debate on how this could be done.

Two different approaches have almost similar backing: "no means no" and "only yes means yes".

While they may seem similar there's a subtle difference between the two. As per the former approach, a sexual act can be considered rape if a person "explicitly" objects. Meanwhile the latter categorises any sexual act that was performed without explicit consent as rape.

Earlier this year Switzerland's upper house of parliament, the Council of States voted for the "no means no" approach.

However, the Monday vote by the lower house backs "only yes means yes". The option has already been taken up by a number of European nations including Spain, Sweden, Denmark and Belgium.

Emotions ran high during the debate on Monday, with 99 lawmakers voting for the significantly radical approach. 88 were in opposition and there three abstained from voting.

Tamara Funiciello, a Socialist member of parliament according to the ATS news agency while backing the motion said "It is obvious that you don't take money out of your neighbour's wallet without asking. It is obvious that you don't enter someone's home without ringing the bell".

"Why should my wallet and my home be better protected than my body?" she questioned the floor.

However, right-leaning members of the Swiss parliament oppose the approach. In their opinion, it creates confusion and will be difficult to put into practice.

The two houses will now have to debate, and reach common ground before an amendment to the law can move forward. Following this under the nation's direct democratic system it will likely go to a popular vote.

Taking another progressive step, the Supreme Court of India on Monday prohibited the use of rather inhumane 'two-finger test' in cases of rape and sexual assaults. Stating it was 'regrettable' that such practice continued, the Supreme Court bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli made the observations. "This court has time and again deprecated the use of two finger test in cases alleging rape and sexual assault. The so called test has no scientific basis." Stating the test re-victimises and re-traumatises the women, the court warned that, "the two finger test must not be conducted." "The test is based on an incorrect assumption that a sexually active woman cannot be raped. Nothing can be further from the truth." Also watch: India: Supreme Court livestreams proceedings heard by five-judge bench The bench made the observations while restoring conviction in a rape case and called the practice 'patriarchal' and 'sexist'. "The probative value of a woman's testimony does not depend on her sexual history. In the concluding statements, the bench ordered the union government and state governments to ensure that guidelines laid down by the Department of Health and Family Welfare are implemented in government and private hospitals. A college student who had allegedly been sexually assaulted while disembarking from an Uber auto (tuk-tuk) has expressed dissatisfaction with the ride aggregator and the company's response. The incident took place in the southern Indian city of Chennai when the woman and her friend reached their destination via an Uber ride. According to the complainant, she was stepping out of the auto and her friend was making the payment, when the driver allegedly sexually assaulted her and then managed to escape.

Based on the complaint, the police are said to have arrested the driver and seized his vehicle and also got the related CCTV footage.

However, the complainant is extremely unhappy with the way the ride aggregator has dealt with the situation and their lack of proper responses.

Speaking to WION, the student (complainant) said that an Uber representative had initially assured legal action and also mentioned that the driver would possibly be suspended. However, despite requests, Uber did not share the mobile number of the said driver. She had been seeking the mobile number of the said driver, as she wanted to share the same with the Police.

As Uber customers only have access to the common landline number that drivers use to call customers and vice versa, she doesn't have the auto driver’s personal contact number, which was one of the prime information that was missing on the FIR. This ultimately is said to have led to a delay in Police’s investigation. She said that Uber representatives who called her later, were clueless about the particular incident, as there was no communication within their team. A young female parliamentary researcher has claimed that she was sexually assaulted by a serving Cabinet minister, Daily Mail has reported.

The woman, who worked at No 10 when the incident happened, alleged that she was groped by a Tory MP who has since been promoted to the Cabinet rank.

In an interview to the Sky News's ‘The Open Secret’ podcast, the woman, who has not been identified, said, “I was sexually assaulted by someone who's now a Cabinet minister, and I was in my early 20s and didn't really know how to deal with it.”

“I was super drunk. He's feeding me more wine and I'm already quite obviously tanked. After a while, I was like, ‘you know, what? Would you mind if I just went to bed?’ So, I went to bed,” she said.

“But obviously he didn't leave me alone. And then I woke up the next morning and I realised what had happened,” she added.

According to reports, the former House of Commons staff member later informed her colleagues and the MP she was working for at the time, who encouraged her to report it to the police. But she didn’t choose to press the matter further and also did not lodge a formal complaint to the Conservative Party.

“I was too scared to kickstart that process and risk it spiralling out of control,” she was quoted as saying.

But after the MP was elevated to the Cabinet rank, the woman decided to file a formal complaint.

“I heard that he was going to get a job in Downing Street. I raised it with a number of people. Nothing happened. So I then formally complained to the Cabinet Office. I just felt the responsibility to do it again, partly because the office he's going to be working in is full of women. And I just thought he'd do it again.”

However, she claimed that one of Boris Johnson's aides dismissed her complaint.

The Conservative party is said to have probed the matter, but it was not upheld as there was no footage or witnesses.

Meanwhile, a government spokesman told Daily Mail, “We take allegations of misconduct extremely seriously and there are robust procedures in place to raise concerns. All ministerial appointments also follow established processes.”

House of Commons ex-staff member accuses Tory MP, now Cabinet minister, of sexual assault

Former world heavyweight champion George Foreman was accused of sexual assault in the 1970s by two women who were teenagers, according to lawsuits filed in Los Angeles. The lawsuits, obtained by People magazine and celebrity website TMZ, were filed by women identified as Denise S. and Gwen H. Foreman was not identified by name but referred to as a former pro boxer who defeated Joe Frazier in 1973 to become heavyweight champion, as Foreman did.

Denise claimed to have met Foreman at age eight and said he raped her several times in 1976, including at a San Francisco hotel, with assaults taking place when she was 13-16 years old and Foreman was 24. Gwen said she was 15 when Foreman began assaulting her. She said her father was employed by Foreman and the fighter threatened to fire her father is she was not cooperative.

The women seek a trial by jury saying they suffered physical and mental injuries at the hands of the fighter. Foreman denied the lawsuit's claims in a statement to the New York Times.

"Over the past six months, two women have been trying to extort millions of dollars each from me and my family," Foreman said. "They are falsely claiming that I sexually abused them over 45 years ago in the 1970s. I adamantly and categorically deny these allegations."

Foreman, 73, was the 1968 Olympic heavyweight boxing champion and won the professional heavyweight boxing crown in 1973 by stopping Frazier in the second round. He kept the crown until losing to Muhammad Ali in the famous "Rumble in the Jungle" fight in 1974 in what was then Zaire. Foreman would become a pitchman after his boxing career, notably for a grill that carried his name.

In 1994, at age 45, Foreman reclaimed the heavyweight throne by knocking our Michael Moorer, becoming at the time the oldest fighter to ever win any boxing title. Foreman ended his career at age 48 in 1997 with a loss to Shannon Briggs, his final record at 76-5 with 68 knockout triumphs.

Former two-time world heavyweight champion George Foreman sued for alleged sexual assault

Canadian cardinal Marc Ouellet on Friday strongly denied claims of sexual assault made against him and said he was ready to prove his "innocence". Ouellet is accused of abusing a female intern, identified only as "F", from 2008 to 2010, when he was archbishop of Quebec.

The 78-year-old, who was once considered a strong candidate to be pope, was named in court documents this week relating to a class action suit targeting more than 80 members of the clergy in the archdiocese of Quebec.

He rejected the accusations in a statement, a day after the Vatican said it ruled out a formal church investigation.

"Having learnt of the false accusations made against me by the complainant, I strongly deny having made inappropriate gestures towards her," he said.

"I consider the interpretation and circulation of these allegations of sexual assaults to be defamatory. If a civil inquiry is opened, I will actively participate so the truth is established and my innocence is recognised," said the statement in French and Italian published on the Vatican website.

The claims against him in the civil suit, which the Quebec supreme court ruled could go ahead in May, are among the testimonies of 101 people who say they were sexually assaulted by members of the clergy and church staff from 1940 to today.

They surfaced just weeks after Pope Francis visited Canada, where he apologised for the decades-long abuse of Indigenous children in Catholic-run residential schools.

So far, the cardinal is not facing any criminal charges.

No grounds for formal probe

Ouellet's denial comes a day after Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said a "preliminary investigation" already ordered by Pope Francis had found there were "no elements to initiate a trial".

The pontiff went back to the author of that probe, Father Jacques Servais, and was told again there were no grounds for opening a formal investigation.

Ouellet is a prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, one of the most important functions within the Curia, the government of the Vatican.

His accuser claims the cardinal assaulted her multiple times — kissing her, "forcefully" massaging her shoulders, and once sliding his hand along her back to her buttocks.

According to Thursday's Vatican statement, Servais said he had interviewed the woman via Zoom in the presence of a member of the committee.

He was quoted as saying that neither in her report to the pope, nor in the testimony he heard, "did this person make an accusation that would provide material for such an investigation".

Since becoming pope in 2013, Francis has sought to tackle decades-long sexual abuse scandals, although critics insist much more needs to be done.

Weeks after Pope Francis returned from a six-day trip to Canada where he apologised to victims of sexual abuse by the Church, a Canadian cardinal named Marc Ouellet, regarded as a potential successor to him and having a high-ranking position within the Vatican has been accused of sexual assault.

Reportedly, a class action lawsuit has been filed against Cardinal Ouellet and more than 88 members of the clergy in the Quebec diocese. More than 100 victims have lent their weight to the civil lawsuit where some damning claims have been made.

Ouellet's name had not come up in the lawsuit up until now but according to court documents, an alleged victim, identified as 'F' stated that she was interning as a pastoral agent between 2008 and 2010 when the series of assaults by Ouellet took place. The victim added that most of the assaults took place during public events.

Ouellet was the archbishop and head of the archdiocese at the time, parachuted from Rome. He had the authority to hire individuals as pastoral agents and thus his strong position may have forced the victim to keep quiet.

"He grabbed me and then...his hands on my back, they went down pretty low. Quite intrusive for, let's say for someone who is my superior, who is the archbishop of Quebec." said the victim on a Radio show.

"I felt chased after. It became more and more invasive, more and more intense to the point where I stopped attending events. I tried avoiding being in his presence as much as possible," the victim further added.

The court documents further reveal that the victim went to the committee in charge of reviewing sexual allegations 10 years later where she shared her story.

The committee believed her and told her to file a complaint. The committee went to the Vatican in 2021 and filed the complaint. A virtual meeting was arranged between the victim and the Vatican church.

However, more than a year after the meeting, nothing has come out of it as Ouellet continues to hold a prominent public image.

It is pertinent to note that most of the 100-odd victims were sexually abused when they were minors by the priests and other staff with cases dating back to the 1940s.

With the victim 'F' shedding light on Ouellet, one of the big fishes, it is expected to open a pandora's box. In most cases, the abuser has not committed a sexual offence for the first time.

Lawyers representing the plaintiffs believe that more such cases may be unearthed as the lawsuit receives public exposure.

Canada: Weeks after Pope's visit, a prominent cardinal named in a sexual assault class lawsuit

Mangaluru Police has arrested eight students of St Aloysius College and produced them before the juvenile justice court after a video went viral on social media where a boy and girl could be seen kissing in a flat while their friends cheered them. All eight have been booked under Sections 4, 8, 12, 13, 17 of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and Sections 66 (E) and 67 of the IT Act.

Reportedly, the 20-second video was filmed a few months ago but was only recently posted on social media platforms. The girl with the ID card visible in the video appears to have lodged a complaint of sexual assault with the police.

Apparently, the girl knew the boys and the other girl present in the apartment. They were playing a game of ‘truth or dare’ in a rented apartment near Light House Hill Road in Mangaluru. However, after the video was filmed, the eight boys allegedly sexually assaulted the two girls, including the girl who kissed the boy.

These boys filmed the sexual acts and continued to threaten the girls. However, after one of the boys, who captured the original video uploaded the clipping on the WhatsApp group of the college, the skeletons started to tumble out of the closet.

A teacher who turned out to be the admin of the WhatsApp group noticed the video and informed the college management. The college conducted an inquiry and suspended few students.

N Shashi Kumar, Mangaluru police commissioner visited the apartment where the incident took place. The house owner, a woman, informed the commissioner that the two boys who rented the flat were kicked out two months ago after she discovered bottles of liquor in the trash.

The police are also ascertaining if there was involvement of drugs during the incident. “Investigation is underway about whether the students had consumed drugs,” stated Commissioner N Shashi Kumar.

Mangaluru Police has arrested eight students of St Aloysius College and produced them before the juvenile justice court after a video went viral on social media where a boy and girl could be seen kissing in a flat while their friends cheered them.

Read More: Roe v. Wade: Google location history of American women remains vulnerable A teacher who turned out to be the admin of the WhatsApp group noticed the video and informed the college management. India: Mangaluru Police book eight after kissing video goes viral

Around 550 American women who use the ride-hailing service to book rides are suing Uber on the grounds that drivers there sexually assaulted them. The complaint, which was submitted on Wednesday, claims that female passengers who had been matched with Uber drivers through the app had been "kidnapped, sexually assaulted, sexually battered, raped, falsely imprisoned, stalked, harassed, or otherwise attacked" by those drivers in a number of different states.

These most recent allegations came just days after the so-called Uber Files, a cache of more than 124,000 documents covering the years 2013 to 2017 that reveal the company's history of illegal activity, covert lobbying, and unethical behaviour, were made public.

"Putting growth before safety"

The lawsuit claims that despite knowing that its drivers were raping and sexually abusing female passengers as early as 2014, sexual predators operating under the Uber brand continued to target victims. In its place, Uber is charged with putting "expansion over customer safety".

According to Adam Slater, founding partner of Slater Slater Schulman, "Uber's entire business model is built on providing individuals with a safe ride home, yet rider safety was never their focus – growth was, at the expense of their passengers' safety."

Although the firm has just addressed the sexual assault crisis, its real response has been delayed and insufficient, leading to terrible outcomes.

The complaint was filed in response to Uber's release of its second US Safety Report, which stated that there will be 998 reported instances of sexual assault in 2020, including 141 accusations of rape.

In addition, the report stated that in 2019 and 2020, Uber has received 3,824 reports of the five most serious types of sexual assault. These include rape as well as "non-consensual sexual penetration" or "non-consensual kissing of a non-sexual bodily area." In its inaugural safety report, which covers the years 2017 and 2018, the ride-hailing app discovered 5,981 incidents of sexual assault in these five categories.

550 women sue Uber over allegations including kidnapping and sexual assault

Uber reported 141 instances of sexual assaults including rapes in the United States. The safety report released on Thursday (June 30) by the ride hailing app service covers the data for 2019 and 2020. This is the second report the firm has released about the safety occurrences. According to the new, 78-page report on safety events, the company received 3,824 safety-related complaints of the five most serious types of sexual assaults, which included "non-consensual sexual penetration" and rape. Approximately 91 per cent of rape victims were passengers, and only 7 per cent were drivers (nearly double that of the first report), CNN reported.

"The change in rate of sexual assault reports over time may have been impacted by a number of factors, including how the Covid-19 pandemic altered usage of the platform as well as Uber's safety and transparency efforts. But each reported incident represents a harrowing lived experience for the survivor. Even one report is one report too many."

The current numbers are less than 5,981 reports in 2017 and 2018. Uber said that riders were alleged victims 43 per cent of the time in sexual assault incident reports.

Uber’s overall number of US trips over the two-year period dropped from 2.3 billion to 2.1 billion. The average number of rides per day dropped from 3,1 million to 2.8 million. According to the report, rape incidents accounted for just 0.00002 per cent of all journeys.

During the two-year timeframe, the company also documented 20 fatalities caused by physical assaults, amongst which 15 were passengers.

Prior to this, Lyft and its shareholders reached an agreement on a $25 million settlement regarding claims and disclosures about the company’s operations particularly in regards with sexual assault and related occurrences.

Uber and Lyft in March 2021 declared that they will publish the names of the drivers who had their account suspended due to being involved in the sexual assaults.

Uber’s safety report recorded 141 sexual assaults including rapes in 2020

A Chinese court has sentenced a man to 18 years in jail for sexually assaulting a female employee of Alibaba Group during a work trip.

The court found Zhang Guo, a client of the Chinese e-commerce platform, guilty of intoxicating the woman, whose surname is Zhou, with alcohol and then forcing himself on her during a business dinner in July 2021.

Jinan Huaiyin District People's Court found him "guilty of forcible indecency, sexually assaulting the victim against her will while she was drunk", state media outlet the Global Times reported.

He first committed the crime at a restaurant and again the next day in the woman’s hotel room.

According to reports, the woman was later fired by Alibaba after she made her allegations public.

Guo, who has been in custody for nearly a year, has about eight months left to serve of his sentence.

The verdict is significant considering that the majority of sexual assault cases do not make it to court in China, with the conviction rate being dismal.

Though many expressed sympathies for the victim, there was also equal amount of criticism against her on social media for getting drunk. There was condemnation, too, of the country's office drinking culture and Alibaba's handling of the case.

The woman first made her ordeal public by sharing an 11-page document accounting the incident. She alleged that her manager raped her in a hotel room while she was unconscious after a "drunken night" last summer.

The incident triggered rage on the Chinese social media platform, Weibo, with many demanding action against the Alibaba Group.

The public backlash forced Alibaba to fire her co-worker, while the two executives who failed to act on the allegation also resigned.

A memo was issued saying Alibaba was "staunchly opposed to forced drinking culture".

Chinese man who sexually assaulted Alibaba employee sentenced to 18 years in jail

Jacob Hoggard, the frontman for the Canadian band Hedley, was convicted Sunday of sexual assault causing bodily harm to an Ottawa woman but acquitted of the same charge involving a teenage fan.

Hoggard, 37, was also found not guilty of sexual interference, a charge alleging the sexual touching of someone under 16, in an incident involving the same teen fan when she was 15.

The singer hugged his wife in the courtroom after the jury's verdict was read.

Prosecutors alleged Hoggard groped the teen after a Hedley show in Toronto in April 2016 and then raped her in a Toronto-area hotel room later that year after she turned 16.

They alleged he raped the Ottawa woman in a Toronto hotel in November 2016. Both complainants testified they were left bleeding and bruised. They each said that among other things, Hoggard slapped them, spit in their mouths and called them derogatory names and that he restricted their breathing at one point.

During the roughly month-long trial, Hoggard testified his memory of the encounters wasn't clear, but he said that he had consensual, passionate, sex with the complainants and that he didn't touch the teen sexually until after she turned 16. I knew when she turned 16, Hoggard testified, adding he made sure to be responsible and not break the law.

He denied choking or restricting the complainants' breathing but said some of the other things they described were among his sexual preferences and therefore could have happened.

The jury began deliberating Tuesday and twice indicated it was deadlocked on some counts.

Each time, jurors were asked to keep trying. They went on to replay the bulk of the testimony given by the two complainants and Hoggard and also asked several questions on legal issues, including the definition of consent.
Hoggard's band, Hedley, rose to fame after he came in third on the reality show Canadian Idol in 2004.

Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with sex offences including assaults on three men following an investigation by police in London, Britain`s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said on Thursday.

Police said the alleged offences had taken place between March 2005 and April 2013, with four incidents taking place in the capital and one in Gloucestershire. They involved one man who is now in his 40s and two men now in their 30s.

"The CPS has authorised criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three men," Rosemary Ainslie, Head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said in a statement.

"He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation."

Spacey, once one of Hollywood`s biggest stars, has largely disappeared from public view since being accused of sexual misconduct five years ago.

In November 2017, London`s Old Vic theatre said it had received 20 separate allegations of inappropriate conduct by Spacey from 20 men who came into contact with him at the theatre, or in connection with it, between 1995 and 2013.

He was dropped from the TV show "House of Cards" and removed from the movie "All the Money in the World" after the accusations of sexual misconduct came to light.

The 62-year-old, who won Oscars for best actor in "American Beauty" and best supporting actor in "The Usual Suspects", has previously denied all accusations of misconduct.

Roberto Cavazos, an actor who worked at the Old Vic, where Spacey was artistic director between 2004 and 2015, said in 2017 he had encounters with the Hollywood star at the time "that verged on what you could call harassment".
It is not known if Cavazos is one of the men Spacey has been charged with assaulting.

Spacey is being sued in the United States by actor Anthony Rapp who accuses him of sexual assault and battery in the 1980s when Rapp was about 14.

A judge in Manhattan last year dismissed claims by a second man who was suing Spacey, after the plaintiff refused to identify himself publicly.

In 2019, Massachusetts prosecutors dropped a criminal case accusing Spacey of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man at a bar three years earlier after the alleged victim refused to testify.

Just days after French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled his new cabinet, a storm is set to hit his government just ahead of the June parliamentary elections.

There's a scandal brewing.

Recently-appointed Minister for solidarities and people with disabilities, Damien Abad is facing accusations of sexually assaulting two women over a decade ago.

His appointment had already faced mocking by the opposition, as it came only a day after he abandoned his conservative mainstream party for Macron's centrist one.

On Saturday, a day after the new government was declared, the allegations against him were made. According to reports, a complaint was filed in one of the cases in 2017, but it was later dismissed.

In the other case, no legal action has been taken yet.

A women's rights watchdog has claimed that leading members of President Macron's party were informed of the complaints four days before the announcement of the new cabinet, on May 16th.

Elisabeth Borne, the new Prime Minister, however, has denied any knowledge of the allegations surrounding Abad. She said that "there will be no impunity" in cases involving members of the new government once judicial authorities step in.

However, she failed to mention when during the legal proceedings would the removal of the government official will take place.

Opposition politicians have called for his immediate resignation.

"If I were prime minister, I would tell Damien Abad: 'I have no particular reason to believe the women are lying... While we wait for a decision from the judicial system, I wish for you not to be part of the government,'" said, Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure while talking to France Inter radio.

Sandrine Rousseau, a Green Party politician, has also called for Abad's removal.

Abad, who suffers from arthrogryposis, a rare physical disability that affects muscles and joints has vehemently denied the accusations. He claims that given his disability, he is physically incapable of committing the act.

He said that he had been previously been forced to make it clear that due to his disability "sexual act can only take place with the assistance and help" of his partner.

One of the complainants in her allegations had said that she was unconscious when Abad raped her, however, the minister said that the claim he could "drug, carry, undress and rape an unconscious woman are inconceivable and abject."

In Canada, self-induced extreme intoxication or drinking too much alcohol to the point that you lose control is a valid defence for violent crimes like homicide and sexual assault.
