A Kerala court on Monday sentenced a 44-year-old man to a cumulative 106 years' imprisonment for raping and impregnating a 15-year-old mentally challenged girl in this mountainous district of the state.

Devikulam Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) Judge Sirajuddin P A handed down varying sentences to the man, who was a friend of the victim's mother, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for a total of 106 years, Special Public Prosecutor Smiju K Das said.

However, as the sentences will be served concurrently and the highest of the jail terms given to the man is 22 years, he will be serving 22 years in prison.

The court also imposed a fine of&nbsp;₹&nbsp;60,000 on the man. If the convict does not pay the fine amount, he will have to undergo an additional 22 months of rigorous imprisonment.

The court ordered that if the accused pays the fine, the amount should be paid to the girl as compensation from the victim compensation scheme of the Idukki District Legal Services Authority.

The incident took place in 2022 when the accused, a native of Thrissur, had come to Adimali for work. He had been working together with the girl's mother in a hotel and, after becoming friendly with her, he stayed with them in their house.

Then, when the girl's mother and siblings were not at home, the accused began sexually exploiting the girl. He had also threatened the girl, saying that he would kill her if she disclosed the incidents to them.

The incidents came to light when the mother brought the girl to Adimali Taluk Hospital due to physical difficulties, and the doctor found out that the girl was pregnant. The doctor reported the incident to the police.

The pregnancy of the girl was aborted at Idukki Medical College Hospital.

Subsequently, DNA tests were conducted on the medical samples of the aborted foetus of the girl and the accused, revealing that the father of the unborn child of the girl was the accused.&nbsp;

"Sexual harassment leaves a mark," on statues and on humans. Throughout Germany, large white placards have been strategically placed to expose the trauma that comes with sexual abuse. How? Through what is in front of the placards: Bronze statues of women with their breasts visibly many shades lighter because of all the groping and touching at the hands of tourists and locals.

<h2>Unsilence the violence</h2>

German women's rights organisation Terre des Femmes has launched a campaign titled "Unisilence the violence," to bring attention to the sexual harassment women face throughout their lives.

According to the group, two out of three women experience sexual harassment at some point in their lives.

In a press release, Sina Ton of Terre des Femmes pointed out that "Sexual harassment is a problem that is far too often trivialized or ignored."

"We must work together to ensure that the voices of victims are heard and that perpetrators are held accountable," it added.

<h2>Not even statues are spared</h2>

The group, Terre des Femmes, has installed their placards behind iconic statues of women, which are an important part of humanity's cultural history: the Juliet Capulet statue in Munich's Marienplatz; the "Youth" statue in Bremen's Hoetgerhof; and in front of the "Frau Rhein" statue that is part of the Neptune fountain in central Berlin.

The group has also posted QR codes through which the statues themselves can tell their stories in audio form.

Photos of the installation clearly show the stark difference between the naked women's breasts — "where they are most often touched" — and the rest of the statue, said the organisation.

After facing spine pain Kristin Fritz sought help from a rheumatologist recommended by her doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, a decade ago.

During her appointments with Dr. Derrick Todd, Fritz initially experienced a normal consultation process. However, as the session progressed, she recounted feeling uncomfortable as Todd aggressively groped her breasts, suggesting he took pleasure in the act.

It wasn't until last year, when contacted by the hospital regarding Todd, that she understood the violation. She later discovered she was not alone.

“I feel so dishonored,” she told The Associated Press. “I feel so ashamed of myself for not knowing better in the moment to do anything and to be like, yeah, this did feel wrong and I should tell somebody.”

It is worth mentioning that she is one of more than 200 women and several men who have joined a consolidated lawsuit against Todd in Massachusetts’ Suffolk Superior Court.

The lawsuit, which combines multiple filings from the previous year, accuses Todd of subjecting patients to unnecessary pelvic floor therapy, breast examinations, testicular examinations, and rectal examinations.

The lawsuit alleges that Todd, a former rheumatologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital specialising in treating inflammatory conditions of muscles, joints, and bones, began abusing patients in 2010. It further accuses several dozen other defendants, including Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and Charles River Medical Associates, of being aware of the abuse and failing to intervene.

William Thompson of Lubin &amp; Meyer, Boston-based firm that represents most of the victims, described the case as remarkable due to the significant number of individuals who were exploited by him. Thompson also questioned how such misconduct could persist within the hospital and practice group for so long without detection or intervention.

Anthony Abeln, Todd's lawyer, stated that Todd would not litigate this matter in the media, but he will defend his care as the case progresses through the Massachusetts Superior Court system.

Initially the hospital received anonymous complaint about Todd that prompted an internal investigation. He was asked not to conduct sensitive examinations without a chaperone. In June, he was placed on administrative leave and later terminated.

The hospital reported the incident to the Department of Public Health, the state Board of Registration in Medicine, law enforcement, and Todd's current and former patients.

In September, Todd voluntarily agreed with the Board of Registration in Medicine to cease practicing medicine nationwide. While no criminal charges have been filed against Todd.

Thompson noted that victims of the abuse ranged in age from teenagers to women in their 60s.&nbsp;The lawsuit alleged Todd would gain their confidence, go beyond treating their rheumatic diseases and become their only doctor while conducting invasive, unnecessary exams.

For Fritz&nbsp;the experience will stay with her for the rest of her life. But she takes solace in the fact that Todd is already paying a price for his actions.

A former UK teacher who is in jail for raping a child while working as the deputy head at a primary school has now been banned from ever teaching again.

44-year-old Julie Morris was imprisoned for filming the abuse as she and her boyfriend David Morris, 52, raped a schoolgirl aged 13.

As per a Metro UK report, the duo made their "graphic and depraved" plans a "sordid" reality.

<h2>Locked up</h2>

Julie Morris was locked up in December 2021 after admitting to 18 sex offences unrelated to her job as the 'safeguarding lead' at St George’s Central Primary School in Tyldesley, near Wigan.

Her partner, David Morris, a mechanic, was jailed for 16 years, with an additional four-year extended licence period, for a total of 34 offences. These include seven counts of rape and 13 counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Andrew Menary, while sentencing the pair, had expressed shock, stating: "Every now and again you see cases, the circumstances of which are almost beyond belief."

"This is one of those cases. It demonstrates that human depravity really knows no depths."

Following this, her case was transferred to the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), which deals with cases of misconduct.

A three-person panel of the TRA concluded that the former teacher's actions were "fundamentally incompatible with her being a teacher."

"Her conduct ran counter to what should be at the very core of the practice of a teacher with a duty of care towards children," stated a report detailing the panel's findings.

The panel was of the opinion that Morris' actions in committing the rape and abuse "would undoubtedly affect public confidence in the teaching profession, particularly given the influence that teachers may have on pupils, parents, and others in the community".

It added that the fact she was also the safeguarding lead at the school "makes her offending all the more shocking in that, whilst the designated point of contact for welfare and safety concerns at the School, she herself was engaged in abusing a child, albeit not one at the school."

The panel also found that Morris' offences were "deliberate and sustained" and were not committed "under duress".

Concluding that there was a "real risk" of Morris repeating her offences, they banned her from teaching indefinitely on February 27.

This, as per the report, means that the now 46-year-old is barred from teaching in schools, sixth-form colleges, youth accommodations or children’s homes.

<h2>How was the couple caught?</h2>

The couple's 'sordid secret' came to light when police found a conversation about the sexual abuse of children on David's phone. The phone, which was seized during a search warrant, also had video recordings of rape and sexual abuse.

In one video, Julie Morris&nbsp;even filmed herself laughing as she abused a child she claimed was a willing participant.

Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell talked about the dark side of the Kids TV, which he was victim of when he was working with Nickelodeon dialogue and acting coach Brian Peck. Bell has openly talked about being sexually assaulted by Brian Peck on the docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.

After the release of the four-part docuseries, the 37-year-old actor talked about why he chose to share his side of the story, and how initially he refused to be part of the series and even checked himself into rehab before&nbsp;detailing sexual abuse in the docuseries

Speaking at The Sarah Fraser Show, the actor revealed that due to his past experience when he declined to participate in the other documentaries, the actor said that he became more cautious.&nbsp;

Recalling the response he got once when he declined a documentary offer, Bell explained, “They said that people like me were the problem, and this is why things aren’t gonna change in the industry because people like you won’t speak out and won’t come forward. It was just all this shaming of me not wanting to be a part of their documentary. So I’ve always been cautious and on-edge whenever approached to talk about such a sensitive topic.”

However, the story turned out to be different when it came to Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, as the actor revealed that he kind of bonded with the director Emma Schwartz, and how he was comfortable&nbsp;while sharing his story with Emma.&nbsp;

Like many times before, the actor said that this time also he was hesitant before taking part in this docuseries. However, the story turned different.&nbsp;

After a UN report acknowledged that there were "reasonable grounds to believe" sexual violence, including rape and gang rape, occurred during the Oct&nbsp;7 attack by Hamas militants on Israel, another report has revealed harrowing details of abuse faced by Palestinians in Israeli detention centres.

Reportedly, Palestinians in Israeli detention have been subjected to torture including beatings, dog attacks, the prolonged use of stress positions and even sexual assault.

<h2>The UN report</h2>

As per The Guardian, this report has been compiled by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA). It is largely based on interviews of Palestinian detainees who have been released at the Kerem Shalom crossing point since December.

The report has been "widely circulated" within the UN and was seen by the British publication. According to the UNRWA report, just over 1,000 detainees have been released since December, and another 3,000 remain in Israeli custody.

But now, a court in South Korea has found him guilty of sexually harassing minors at the school he founded at his NGO.

The United Kingdom has announced a new crackdown on "cowards" who kill their partners through "rough sex".On Valentine's Day, (Wednesday, Feb 14th) the UK government announced that a new statutory aggravating factor will be brought in" for this.

<h2>What is 'rough sex'?</h2>

As per a statement on the UK Government website, "abusive, degrading or dangerous sexual behaviour" that causes death constitutes&nbsp;'rough sex'.

"Cowards who kill their partners with sexual violence will face longer behind bars as the government continues to clamp down on domestic abuse against women," said the statement.

Under the new legislation, offenders will be handed down tougher sentences than ever.&nbsp;

As per The Guardian, this follows the UK government's abolition of rough sex as a defence under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. This was done after lawyers in a series of high-profile cases took help of the act to&nbsp;secure lesser sentences for their clients.

Building on the act, the measure seeks to clarify that in law, there is no such thing as the "rough sex defence".&nbsp;

Alex Chalk, the UK Justice Secretary in a statement, said, "We must also hold offenders to account. This new aggravating factor sends a clear message that killers who threaten the safety of women can expect to feel the full force of the law."

The move comes on the heels of the latest Rape Review progress report.

<h2>"Rough sex" defence</h2>

As per a 2020 report by the advocacy group, 'We Can't Consent To This', in the UK, at least 60 women and seven men have been killed in episodes of so-called "Rough sex" since 1972. Furthermore, there have been 115 reported non-fatal assaults where rough sex is claimed by the accused — 114 of the victims were women.

Of the 60 homicides,&nbsp;a whopping 45 per cent of offenders, using the "rough sex" defence,&nbsp;got away with "prosecution for manslaughter, a lesser sentence, or the death not prosecuted as a crime at all."

As per the group, in all the cases "All of those accused of this violence, who make the claim it was 'rough sex', are male."

Reacting to the upcoming legislation Fiona Mackenzie, Founder of We Can't Consent to This campaign said: "This is an important step in ensuring that men who kill women in sexually motivated violence do not get away with a lighter sentence. "

"This change should ensure that any future perpetrators of violence of this sort are properly punished, and send a clear message that this violence against women is unacceptable in our society," she added.

Reacting to the upcoming legislation Fiona Mackenzie, Founder of We Can't Consent to This campaign said: "This is an important step in ensuring that men who kill women in sexually motivated violence do not get away with a lighter sentence. EU proposes stronger rules against online child sexual abuse

A troubling report has emerged highlighting the surge of child abuse online more than 90% of websites have been found to feature images exalted from victims as young as three. According to UK-based internet watch foundation's 2023 report over 90% of these illegal websites showcased self-generated images.

Reports find 90% of child sexual abuse content to be self-created

Over 90 per cent of child sexual abuse material present on the internet is now "self-generated" content, extorted from children victims,&nbsp;as young as three, according to a new report by an internet watchdog.&nbsp;

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) said it unearthed&nbsp;self-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on more than 275,655 websites in 2023, which was an increase of eight per cent from the previous year.&nbsp;

Out of these websites,&nbsp;254,070, or 92 per cent, contained "self-generated" images or videos, with children under the age of 10 featuring on more than&nbsp;100,000 websites which was an increase of 66 per cent on the year before. Kids between the ages&nbsp;of three and six were found on 2,500 of them.&nbsp;

Around, one in five websites contained Category A child abuse content - regarded as the most severe form of it.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“It does mean we’re detecting more, but I don’t think it’s ever a good thing if you’re finding loads more child sexual abuse,” said the watchdog's chief executive Susie Hargreaves.&nbsp;

“Obviously the IWF would be most successful if we didn’t find any images of child sexual abuse. Our mission is the elimination of child sexual abuse – it’s not just to find as much as possible and take it down.”

Over 90% of child sexual abuse content on internet is now 'self-generated': Report

A new report on sexual abuse against children in the UK has revealed some shocking details. It says most of these crimes are being committed by children themselves. Molly Gambhir reports.

Gravitas | Study: More Children are perpetrating sexual abuse than adults

The new figures have revealed that other children had committed more than half of child sexual abuse offences reported in 2022.

The police said that the rise in child-on-child abuse has been because of the easy access of smartphones and violent pornography to children.

The data collected from 42 police forces in England and Wales showed that around 106,984 child sexual abuse offences were reported in 2022, which is an increase of 7.6 per cent from the previous year and more than five times the 20,000 cases recorded in 2013.

In the landmark report, it was found that in 52 per cent of these cases, a child&nbsp;between the age of 10 to 17&nbsp;was involved as a suspect or perpetrator, which is up from a third in 2013.

As per the researchers, a four-year-old child, who had uploaded a sibling's indecent image to the internet through a smartphone, was the youngest child to have been reported by the police.

Till now, the police registered reports of 14,800 rapes and sexual assaults against children, between the age of 10 to 17, where the police had classed the suspect as a child and the overwhelming majority were boys.

Speaking to The Guardian, NPCC lead for child protection Ian Critchley said: “This is predominantly a gender-based crime of boys committing offences against girls.”

“I think that is being exacerbated by the accessibility of violent pornography and the ease with which violent pornography is accessible to boys and, therefore, a perception that is [normal] behaviour, and that person can carry out that behaviour that they are seeing online in the most violent way against other peers as well,” he added.

“Clearly the accessibility to smartphones has just rocketed, not just in relation to 11- to 16-year-olds, but in relation to under-10s as well. That accessibility has really exacerbated that and I think this is a debate that does need to be had in our society,” Critchley said.

It was also reported that a third of attacks take place within the family which is the most common setting for abuse, and eight out of 10 victims had known their attacker in the past. The police said that it is estimated that only a few, like one in six offences, were reported to them.

TB Joshua, the late founder of one of the world's biggest Christian evangelical churches, the Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan) allegedly wrought widespread abuse and torture on his followers, BBC claimed in a&nbsp;report. Dozens of ex-church members who spoke to the outlet have alleged that Joshua subjected his followers to atrocities including rape and forced abortions.

<h2>'Years of abuse'</h2>

The allegations of abuse in a secret compound in Lagos, Nigeria, span almost 20 years,&nbsp;as per a BBC investigation done in collaboration with international media platform Open Democracy.

Joshua, a charismatic leader, was hailed as one of the most influential pastors in African history. Before his death in June 2021, he established a daunting evangelical empire that had among its followers political leaders, celebrities and international footballers.

"We all thought we were in heaven, but we were in hell, and in hell terrible things happen," one of the victims, a British woman identified as Rae told BBC.

She claimed she was sexually assaulted by the church leader and subjected to a form of solitary confinement for two years.

Another former disciple, Jessica Kaimu, who belongs to Namibia, alleged that she too was raped by TB Joshua multiple times, the first time when she was just 17. She also claimed that she was subjected to forced abortions, a result of subsequent rapes by the powerful church leader.

"These were backdoor type… medical treatments that we were going through… it could have killed us," she said.

Other ex-disciples told tales of being stripped and beaten with electrical cables and horse whips.

More than 25 of TB Joshua's former disciples for the first time appeared on record. This includes five British nationals. Among them, a British man and his wife said they emailed eyewitness accounts and video evidence of their ordeal to the British High Commission in Nigeria in March 2010, after fleeing the church. The man, who alleged that his wife was raped multiple times by Joshua, said that in spite of the evidence no action was taken.

Refuting the allegations, Scoan, the church, said, "Making unfounded allegations against Prophet TB Joshua is not a new occurrence… None of the allegations was ever substantiated."

Faced with nearly 100 lawsuits related to decades-old sex abuse claims, the Roman Catholic organisation, Franciscan Friars of California, has filed for bankruptcy.

In a statement, the California-based organisation devoted to helping the poor said it was driven to bankruptcy by a California state law that has enabled sexual abuse victims to file complaints over decade-old incidents. Previously, such complaints were time-barred under the state's statute of limitations, reports Reuters.

The Franciscan Friars of California faces 94 lawsuits, most of which have been filed in the western US state of California.&nbsp;

All these lawsuits, as per the group, are based on abuse that allegedly dates back at least 27 years. A lawsuit accusing actor Warren Beatty of coercive sex with a teenager five decades ago was dismissed Friday. The suit, lodged in Los Angeles last year, was one among&nbsp;several&nbsp; historic abuse claims filed under a California law allowing complaints that would otherwise have passed the statute of limitations.

Kristina Charlotte Hirsch alleged in the suit that she met the Bonnie and Clyde&nbsp;actor on a movie set in 1973 when she was 14 or 15 years old.&nbsp;

She claimed he later invited her to the hotel in which he was living and took her for car rides.&nbsp;Beatty -- who would have been aged around 35 at the time -- "used his position and status as an adult and a Hollywood movie star to coerce sexual contact with Plaintiff on multiple occasions, including oral sex, simulated sex and finally coerced sexual intercourse with the minor child," the suit said.

Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Edward Moreton Jr dismissed the case "with prejudice" at a hearing Friday meaning it cannot be refiled.

Earlier this month, the popular web-based online chat service Omegle closed down forever after the platform was dubbed a safe haven for paedophiles and other notorious elements of society. The court documents show a woman named "Alice" or "A.M." (name changed) who was a victim of child sexual abuse on Omegle, was the main force behind the closure of the website.&nbsp;

Speaking to BBC for the first time after the judgement, Alice revealed that an out-of-court settlement led to the website's closure which otherwise would have taken years if the trial went to jury.&nbsp;

"Getting the site shut down was something I couldn't have achieved in court, so I got to tailor the outcome," she told the publication.&nbsp;

"Accomplishing everything we were able to in court and then obtaining this result now - probably years earlier than we could have reached a jury verdict - is something I'll never stop being proud of."

Alice spent years fighting for compensation after she was randomly paired with a paedophile who made her his&nbsp;digital sex slave. The accused named&nbsp;Ryan Fordyce, a father of two had collected 220 images and videos of Alice from the age of 11, carrying out sexual acts under duress.&nbsp;

"He was able to manipulate me immediately, and very quickly I was being forced to do things that a child should not have to do," said Alice.&nbsp;

Around the time&nbsp;Fordyce was sentenced to a prison sentence in Canada, Alice filed the lawsuit against Omegle in 2021. Prior to the out-of-court settlement, Alice hoped to get&nbsp;$22 million in compensation but had to settle for an undisclosed sum earlier this month which she described was better for her and others.&nbsp;

"He was able to manipulate me immediately, and very quickly I was being forced to do things that a child should not have to do," said Alice. Around the time Fordyce was sentenced to a prison sentence in Canada, Alice filed the lawsuit against Omegle in 2021. Prior to the out-of-court settlement, Alice hoped to get $22 million in compensation but had to settle for an undisclosed sum earlier this month which she described was better for her and others. Nearly one in 10 Australian men have committed a sexual offence against children under the age of 18, finds a study led by the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney. The findings of the research, which is said to be the largest study of its kind ever undertaken globally, were released on Monday (Nov 20).&nbsp;

<h2>‘Deeply concerning’</h2>

The study titled ‘Identifying and understanding child sexual offending behaviour and attitudes among Australian men’ was conducted by UNSW Sydney and Jesuit Social Services and aimed to research the “prevalence of child sexual offending behaviours and attitudes”.&nbsp;

“The first nationally representative research…has shed unprecedented light on sexually abusive behaviours and feelings among Australian men,” said a statement released by the UNSW.&nbsp;

The study surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1,945 Australian men aged 18 to over 65 and found that one in 10 or 9.4 per cent said they had sexual contact with someone under the age of 18.

This would be around one million men in Australia out of which nearly half of them (4.9 per cent) reported having sexual feelings towards children. The figures also include online offences as 4.3 per cent of Australian men reported having had online sexual conversations with children and 2.5 per cent deliberately watched pornographic material containing people below the age of 18.&nbsp;

According to the study, 4.9 per cent of men with sexual feelings that have committed a sexual offence against children were more likely to be married, working with children, earning higher incomes; report anxiety, depression, and binge drinking behaviours; and have been sexually abused or had adverse experiences in childhood.&nbsp;

These men are also found to be active online, including on social media, encrypted apps and cryptocurrency and consume pornography that involves violence or bestiality, the report added.&nbsp;

At least 3.2 per cent of Australian men said they had had sexual contact with a person below the age of 18 when they were over 18. However, the study also noted that this aspect proved to be a limitation since the age of consent in Australia varies and can be 16 or 17 depending on the state.&nbsp;

According to the study, one in six (15.1 per cent) Australian men reported having sexual feelings towards children.

The UNSW-led study found two distinct groups of child sex offenders - “One which is motivated by sexual interest in children, and a second group who may be offending for situational or opportunistic reasons,” the research found.&nbsp;

<h2>Invest in prevention</h2>

“The prevalence of abuse revealed in this report is deeply concerning,” Georgia Naldrett, Manager of Jesuit Social Services’ Stop it Now! Australia service said&nbsp;in a statement.&nbsp;

The study recommends measures like improving community understanding of the harm of child sexual abuse and challenging attitudes that support it.&nbsp;

It also calls for better online safety measures and safeguarding children where they may be “deemed particularly risky, including schools, day-care, social groups, clubs and any other activity in which children are present.”

They also recommend early intervention for men with sexual feelings towards children who have not committed an offence yet. The study found that out of the men who have sexual feelings, 29.6 per cent want help for their sexual feelings towards children.&nbsp;

In a damning letter accessed by the British media, 60 senior women within the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) have pointed to a workplace culture marred by allegations of sexual assault, harassment, and abuse perpetrated by male colleagues.&nbsp;

The letter, reportedly submitted last month to the UK Ministry of Defence's permanent secretary, had a number of anonymous testimonies, giving firsthand accounts of the women's distressing experiences.

<h2>What do the testimonials show?</h2>

The testimonials show a pattern of misconduct, revealing incidents such as women being "propositioned," "groped," and "touched repeatedly" within the MoD.&nbsp;

The senior civil servants who penned the letter to describe the prevailing atmosphere as "hostile to women as equal and respected partners," has sparked concerns about a broader discriminatory culture within one of the largest departments of the UK government.

The letter comprises of allegations spanning both the Ministry of Defence's London headquarters as well as the overseas bases. But most of these accounts have been categorised as "very recent", reflecting rampant signs of discriminatory workplace culture within the ministry.

A study has found that shouting at children is as damaging as physical or sexual abuse. Parents who shout at their children or call them “stupid” leave their children at greater risk of self-harm, drug use and ending up in jail.

Gravitas: We need to talk about this: Shouting at children, as damaging as physical abuse?

Aja Evans, a 2014 Olympic bobsled bronze medalist, has filed a lawsuit alleging that a doctor who worked on Team USA's medical staff subjected her to nearly a decade of sexual abuse and harassment during treatment.

The doctor, Jonathan Wilhelm, a chiropractor who resides in Montana, as well as the United States Olympic &amp; Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation were named as defendants in the lawsuit filed on Wednesday in a state court in upstate New York.

Evans, 35, said in a news release on Thursday that Wilhelm's "repeated molestation and sexual assault" left her "physically and emotionally damaged, to the point where I experience chronic anxiety and fell out of love with the sport of bobsledding."

The lawsuit said Wilhelm's treatment "mirrors the abuse perpetuated" by Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor serving a potential 175-year prison sentence following his 2018 conviction for sexually abusing female gymnasts.

Ryan Stevens, a lawyer for Wilhelm, said his client "wholeheartedly denies the detestable claims against him," and called comparing Wilhelm to Nassar "disgraceful and defamatory." The USOPC said it had not reviewed the complaint, but "remains&nbsp;committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Team USA athletes," including by eliminating abuse.

USA Bobsled said in an email to Reuters that it could not comment on the specifics of the lawsuit but condemns sexual misconduct and remains committed to promoting a safe environment for all athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers.

According to Evans' attorney Michelle Simpson Tuegel, her client suffered "abhorrent and persistent sexual and emotional abuse" at the hands Wilhelm, whom she said was sheltered and enabled by USA Bobsledding and the USOPC's "culture of silence."

"Unfortunately, her experience is all too common and is in many ways similar to the widespread sexual abuse USA gymnasts faced by Larry Nassar," Simpson Tuegel said. "While nothing can erase the trauma Aja suffered, we are committed to bringing both Mr. Wilhelm and the national organizations which enabled his predation to justice."

The lawsuit said Wilhelm began treating Evans in 2012, and that during the treatment he "touched and groped Ms. Evans' genitals and body in contravention of any applicable medical standards." Evans said it was well known among athletes that Wilhelm would, regardless of their injuries, find a reason to "go for the adductor," a group of muscles located on the inner thighs.

She also alleges that Wilhelm had been reported for videotaping and photographing Evans and others in various states of undress during treatment sessions and prior to competition at the USOPC training facility in Lake Placid, New York.

Evans and her teammate formally reported Wilhelm's repeated non-consensual photography in 2017 to USA Bobsled, but the USOPC and USA Bobsled dismissed the complaint and failed to initiate any sort of investigation, according to the lawsuit.

"Rather than being protected, believed, and taken seriously, Ms. Evans was subjected to investigation and degradation by the USOPC and USA Bobsled governing bodies," the lawsuit said. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for pain and suffering, medical damages and other harm, plus punitive damages.

Evans won a bronze medal in the two-woman bobsled at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. In November 2022, Evans received a two-year ban from bobsledding for not submitting a sample during an out-of-competition drug test the previous March.

Japan boyband agency admits founder Johnny Kitagawa's sexual abuse, chief quits

After admitting for the first time that the firm's late founder sexually assaulted aspiring young stars, the head of Japan's largest boyband talent agency resigned. The most influential music entrepreneur in the nation, Johnny Kitagawa, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 87, was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting children over a period of years but avoided justice because his accusers were afraid he would ruin their careers if they came forward.

A court in Sydney, Australia, acquitted Brian Houston, the founder of global megachurch Hillsong, of hiding sexual abuse committed by his father, former pastor Frank Houston, in the 1970s.

A court in Sydney, Australia, acquitted Brian Houston, the founder of global megachurch Hillsong, of hiding sexual abuse committed by his father, former pastor Frank Houston, in the 1970s. On Thursday, the Downing Centre Local and District Court pardoned Houston, 69, by saying that he agreed to the wishes of his father's victim Brett Sengstock by not reporting the crimes to the cops. The court acquitted him of concealing an indictable offence. Houston told reporters outside the court that he will always be sad for the people whose lives were tragically hurt. "But I am not my father. I did not commit this offence," he added. Gareth Christofi, the magistrate, said there was "little doubt" Houston knew Sengstock did not want to report the abuse. "Therefore, he had a valid excuse for not bringing the matter to the attention of the police," said Christofi. Previously, he told the court that from the age of seven, Brian Houston's father, Frank Houston, who was a pastor, repeatedly raped him. After the verdict, Sengstock said, "Frank Houston was no pioneer for Christianity. His legacy remains a faded memory of a paedophile. Regardless of today's outcome, I have received a life sentence." Brian came to know about the abuse decades later. He informed the Church leaders about it. However, he did not tell the police. Frank Houston admitted his crime. Although the church defrocked him, he was never charged and died in 2004. Brian maintained in court that he did not report his father's crimes because when he found out, Sengstock was an adult and did not want the police involved. In 2022, when Brian was accused of concealing the crime from the police, he told Sydney's Downing Centre local, "I have no doubt now my father was a serial paedophile, and we'll probably never know the extent of it."
