Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday (September 6) appealed for an "urgent investigation" into debris, which is suspected to be the remains of a drone, that was found on its soil after attacks in neighbouring Ukraine. 
 
The revelation was made after Romania continuously rejected claims made by Kyiv that Iranian-made Russian drones were detonated on Romanian territory amid a strike on the Ukrainian port of Izmail. 
 
"Investigators discovered elements resembling drone debris in the evening of 5 September," said the defence ministry, in a press release. The debris was found near Plauru, a village in Romania on the other side of the Danube. It added that experts will now carry out a technical analysis to "determine (the debris') origin and characteristics".

President Iohannis after stating that no debris or drone was found on its soil earlier this week, appeared to row back and call for "an urgent and professional investigation". 
 
"If it is confirmed that these elements belonged to a Russian drone, such a situation would be completely inadmissible and a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Romania, a NATO ally," he stated, before the start of the Three Seas Initiative summit which was hosted by Bucharest.

<h2>NATO expresses 'solidarity' with Romania</h2>

Iohannis stated the NATO Secretary General and NATO allies of Bucharest were informed about the new development through the ambassador. 
 
The Alliance allies "expressed strong solidarity with Romania" at a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, stated NATO spokesman Dylan White, in a statement sent to AFP. 
 
"We continue to monitor the situation closely, and we remain in close contact with our Ally Romania,” he said. As per NATO treaty, member states carry the obligation of mutual defence. 
 
Opposition leader of the centre-right party USR Catalin Drula accused Romania of trying to cover things up. "They lied for two days. Ukraine told the truth. Their instinct is to sweep it under the rug," he said on Facebook.

"We had attacks just today, the minister of defence told me, which were verified at 800 metres (2,600 feet) from our border. So very, very close," said Iohannis, while speaking in a joint press conference with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. 
 
The NATO member on Monday had refuted Kyiv's claims that Iranian-made Russian drones dropped and detonated inside the Romanian territory amid a strike carried out on the Ukrainian port of Izmail. 
 
"There was no piece, and no drone and no other part of any device that made it to Romania," said Iohannis at the press conference on Tuesday (September 5), echoing the defence ministry's comments on Monday. 
 
"But yes, we are concerned because these attacks are taking place within a very short distance from the Romanian border," Iohannis stated while addressing from the Cincu military base located in central Romania.

The initial explosion led to escalation as it ignited a fire, subsequently spreading to two storage tanks and a nearby house, media reports said. The severity of the situation prompted authorities to conduct evacuations within a 700-metr eradius.

After the initial calamity, a second explosion shook the same liquefied petroleum gas station in the evening hours of the same day. This blast had far-reaching consequences, as it caused injuries to&nbsp;26 firefighters who had been engaged in emergency response efforts.

Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat, who oversees the emergency response unit, conveyed this information to the local media outlets.

<h2>Severe injuries&nbsp;</h2>

Among the 46 individuals harmed in the incident, eight suffered injuries that necessitated intubation due to severe burns.

In an attempt to manage the crisis and provide the necessary medical care, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu shared that four of the injured victims were being considered for transfer to medical facilities in Italy and Belgium.

"We think four of the patients will more than certainly be transferred tonight to hospitals in Italy and Belgium," Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu reportedly said post an emergency meeting with the state agencies involved in handling the crisis.

A concerning aspect was highlighted by Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat who said that there was the potential for further explosions, as a third tank at the location was identified as posing a risk.

Social media influencer Andrew Tate, along with his brother and two of his associates, has been charged with rape&nbsp;and human trafficking in Romania after a six-month-long probe, the prosecutors said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The anti-organised crime prosecution's unit (DIICOT) ordered the indictment" of the four defendants for offences, including "setting up an organised criminal group... trafficking in persons... rape", they said.&nbsp;

The four were arrested by the Romanian police in December 2022. They were placed under house arrest earlier this year in the month of March.

Tate, his brother Tristan and the two Romanian women deny all the accusations against them.

"It was held that, in early 2021, the four defendants formed an organised criminal group with a view to committing the crime of trafficking in persons on the territory of Romania, but also in other countries, such as the United States and the United Kingdom," DIICOT said in a statement.

Apart from the human trafficking and rape charges, "both in continuous form", the four have also been indicted for "illegal access to a computer system, altering the integrity of computer data, instigation to assault or other violence and assault or other violence," the statement further added.

As per DIICOT, Tate and the others arrested allegedly trafficked, recruited and exploited women by forcing them into "pornographic acts with a view to producing and disseminating such material" online.

The bodies, as per reports, were recovered in a marsh area Thursday during an aerial search with the Canadian Coast Guard.&nbsp;The&nbsp;bodies were found in Tsi Snaihne (Snye), a Mohawk territory in Akwesasne, a region that borders Quebec, Ontario, and New York state. The first body, according to the authorities, was found at&nbsp;about 5 pm.&nbsp;

An AI to run the government? Romanian PM gets AI adviser 'Ion' to tell him what people want

A Romanian court on Tuesday extended the detention of controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate by 30 days. Ramona Bolla, spokesperson of Romania's anti-organised crime agency DIICOT stated that the prosecutors applied for the extension to continue the investigation process.

The decision comes a week before Tate's current detention order was set to expire and it is the third time that the court has granted such an extension.&nbsp;

The 36-year-old former kickboxer, his younger brother Tristan, and two Romanian women have been in custody following the arrest in December last year on charges of human trafficking, rape, and creating an organised crime syndicate.

However, the court ordered that the two women, named Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu be released from custody and instead kept under house arrest.&nbsp;

Earlier, the judges extended the detention by stating that the defendants could 'exercise permanent psychological control over the victims'.&nbsp;

On December 27, Tate asked Thunberg to send her email address so that he could send a detailed list of his automobile collection and their respective massive emissions.&nbsp;

However, Thunberg retorted sarcastically and tweeted, "Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at Smalld***energy@getalife.com."

Tate and his brother continue to plead they are innocent and that the 'matrix' is rigged. The Romanian authorities, however, believe otherwise.&nbsp;

A Romanian court on Tuesday extended the detention of controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate by 30 days. Ramona Bolla, spokesperson of Romania's anti-organised crime agency DIICOT stated that the prosecutors applied for the extension to continue the investigation process.

The decision comes a week before Tate's current detention order was set to expire and it is the third time that the court has granted such an extension. The 36-year-old former kickboxer, his younger brother Tristan, and two Romanian women have been in custody following the arrest in December last year on charges of human trafficking, rape, and creating an organised crime syndicate. However, the court ordered that the two women, named Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu be released from custody and instead kept under house arrest. Earlier, the judges extended the detention by stating that the defendants could 'exercise permanent psychological control over the victims'. He has gained a massive following in the social media echo chambers through his highly misogynistic and controversial statements. Ever since the arrest, the authorities have seized Tate's 15 luxury cars and more than 10 properties. The luxury cars became a focal point after Tate, a couple of days before the arrest started an online feud with Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. On December 27, Tate asked Thunberg to send her email address so that he could send a detailed list of his automobile collection and their respective massive emissions. However, Thunberg retorted sarcastically and tweeted, "Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at Smalld***energy@getalife.com." Romania has opened a criminal investigation against five doctors suspected of reusing hundreds of medical implants extracted from dead patients. In a statement, the Romanian prosecutors said that one of the five doctors, working at a hospital in Iași city, was taken into custody pending investigation on charges of abuse of power and bribe-taking, news agency Reuters reported on Saturday (February 18).&nbsp;

The doctor, who has not been identified, oversaw a network of four other doctors who provided him with cardiac implants extracted from deceased patients without prior approval from them or their families, the prosecutors added. The doctor had performed 238 surgeries over seven years from 2017, by illegally using implants from dead patients or of unknown provenance and putting his patients at risk of serious complications or death, the prosecutors alleged.

They added that a large number of the implants recommended by the doctor was not necessary and was prompted by fake diagnoses or by specific symptoms deliberately triggered by previously prescribed medication.&nbsp;

For years, Romania's healthcare system has been plagued by corruption, inefficiencies and politicised management. Reuters reported on Saturday that tens of thousands of doctors (in Romania) and nurses have emigrated and the country spends the least on healthcare in the European Union (EU).

In July last year, the International Trade Administration (ITA) said the cost of healthcare in Romania in 2021 was $16.7 billion or $872.3 per person and 5.9 per cent of the GDP, one of the European Union's lowest per capita. The ITA said that despite attempts to promote primary care, the amount of health spending dedicated to primary and ambulatory care is the second lowest in the EU.&nbsp;

It added that numerous drug manufacturers also have operations in Romania, but in recent years, problems such as law-back tax and pricing concessions required by the National Health Insurance House (CNAS) have compelled businesses to remove their goods from the Romanian market, lay off employees, or scale back their operations in the country.&nbsp;

Ukraine on Friday (February 10) claimed that two Russian missiles violated the airspace of Romania on their way to Ukraine. Romania is a NATO member. Ukrainian claim was, however, refuted by Romania. Ukraine's armed forces chief said that Russian missiles crossed Romania and Moldova's airspace as they charted their course to Ukraine.

Romania detected an "aerial target launched from the Black Sea from a ship of the Russian Federation" but "at no point did it intersect with Romania's airspace," the ministry of defence said. &nbsp;

"The closest point of the target's trajectory from Romania's airspace was registered by the radar systems at approximately 35 kilometres (22 miles) north-east of the border," the statement added.&nbsp;

Two Romanian Air Force MiG-21 LanceR aircraft on air policing duty under NATO command were sent towards the north of Romania "to supplement our reaction options," the statement added.&nbsp;

In spite of official denials, if it comes to light in future that the airspace was indeed violated, it would mark first such instance involving Romania. In NATO alliance, attack against one member is considered to be attack against all others as well. &nbsp;

Neighbouring Moldova has confirmed it detected "a missile that crossed the airspace of Moldova" and has summoned the Russian ambassador.&nbsp;

Moldova has already seen debris of Russian missiles during the nearly year-long Russian invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp;

Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24. After sustained battlefield advances in initial months, Russian forces had to retreat in the face of Ukrainian counteroffensives. Russia then chose&nbsp;to carry out devastating missile attacks in Ukraine.
