<h2><strong>Passengers say 'it was chaos'</strong></h2>

<p>Speaking to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, a 17-year-old passenger - identified as Anton Deibe from Sweden - said, "The entire cabin was filled with smoke within a few minutes." Deibe was flying with his parents and sister.</p>

<p>"The entire cabin was filled with smoke within minutes. We threw ourselves down on the floor. Then the emergency doors were opened and we threw ourselves at them. The smoke in the cabin stung like hell. It was&nbsp;hell. We have no idea where we are going so we just ran out into the field. It was chaos," the passenger added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another passenger said that he felt a very “warm sensation” on the left side of his face after the collision. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile,&nbsp;59-year-old passenger Satoshi Yamake said he felt the flight had "tilted to the side and felt a big bump" just after the initial collision.</p>

<p>An unnamed passenger said that they felt a "bump, like the aircraft was colliding with something when touching down. I saw a spark outside the window and the cabin was filled with smoke".</p>

<p>Speaking to Kyodo News, one of the passengers said that he felt "a boom like we had hit something and jerked upward the moment we landed".</p>

<p>A female passenger stated that it was dark inside&nbsp;as the fire intensified after landing. "It was getting hot inside the plane, and I thought, to be honest, I wouldn't survive," she said while speaking to the Japanese broadcaster NHK.</p>

<p>As per another passenger, the plan of escaping the flight was made more difficult because only one set of doors was used. "An announcement said doors in the back and middle could not be opened. So everyone disembarked from the front," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the passengers, Susan Benson, who was travelling aboard the Air Canada Flight 1706 and witnessed the entire incident, said the kerfuffle started when two women passengers complained to flight attendants about a putrid smell coming from their seats.</p>

<p>The passengers&nbsp;said they were unable to sit as someone, presumably from the previous flight, had vomited on the seats. Although the flight was cleaned, it was not done thoroughly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“They placed coffee grinds in the seat pouch and sprayed perfume to mask the smell. When the clearly upset passengers tried to explain to the flight attendant that the seat and seatbelt were wet and there was still visible vomit residue in their area, the flight attendant was very apologetic but explained that the flight was full and there was nothing they could do,” Susan wrote on Facebook.</p>

<p>Despite the flight attendants attempting to mask the smell, the passengers argued that it was not possible to sit on the seat. The attendants added that there was nothing that could be done since the flight was full.</p>

<p>Benson, who was seated in a row behind the passengers&nbsp;explained that shortly after, the pilot came up and gave the passengers two choices: they could either leave the flight on their own and look for other flights, or they would be escorted by security and placed on a no-fly list.</p>

<p>Benson added that there was no yelling involved and the incident was barely audible to those who weren't in close proximity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The flight was identified by the DGCA as AI-302 flying a B787-800. The DGCA also stated that first aid was provided by the Air India cabin crew to the injured.<br />

“During the flight, seven passengers reported minor sprain. Cabin crew provided first aid with the assistance of a doctor and a nurse travelling as on the flight, using an onboard first aid kit,” the DGCA official said.<br />
<br />
"Air India airport manager at Sydney arranged medical assistance on arrival and only three passengers availed of the medical assistance," stated the DGCA soon after the incident.<br />
<br />
While speaking about the incident, an Air India spokesperson stated, “Air India’s flight AI302 of 16th May 2023, operating from Delhi to Sydney encountered turbulence mid-air leading to discomfort to the passengers on board. The flight landed safely in Sydney and three passengers availed of medical assistance on arrival, none of whom required hospitalisation. This onboard incident has been reported to the relevant authorities as a standard practice.”<br />

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the DGCA.</p>

<p>In two years, this is the second time a flight has been caught in severe turbulence which has resulted in passengers getting injured.</p>

Air India Delhi-Sydney flight gets caught in severe turbulence; passengers injured

<p>Driverless buses will run for the first time in the world on the roads of Scotland, carrying passengers over Forth Road Bridge next month.</p>

<p>The 14-mile route will be covered by five single-decker buses from May 15, carrying around 10,000 passengers every week, which will run between Ferrytoll Park and ride in Fife and Edinburgh Park train and tram interchange.</p>

<p>Although sensors will be used by vehicles which will run on pre-selected roads at up to 50mph, two members of staff will still need to operate them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Our trunk road network can provide a wide range of environments as a diverse testing ground, and the ground-breaking and globally significant project will really help Scotland establish its credentials on the world stage,” he added.</p>

Driverless buses will run for the first time in the world on the roads of Scotland, carrying passengers over Forth Road Bridge next month. The 14-mile route will be covered by five single-decker buses from May 15, carrying around 10,000 passengers every week, which will run between Ferrytoll Park and ride in Fife and Edinburgh Park train and tram interchange.

<p>The police discovered three bodies, including one of an infant, on the railway tracks as they suspected that the people may have jumped out of the moving train in panic. Two, of the three killed, were identified as Toufiq and Rehana.</p>

<p>Terrorism angle was not ruled out by the police as a bag was discovered from the tracks which contained another bottle of petrol, as well as, two mobile phones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per an eyewitness, just after the train halted on a bridge along the Korapuzha river, a man who appeared in his thirties, jumped out of the train and fled on a bike which was present there.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the passengers who suffered injuries told the police that the accused suddenly took out a bottle filled with an inflammable substance and started spraying it on co-passengers. Before anyone could react, he lit the fire and fled from the scene.</p>

<p>As per reports, the man had an argument with one of his co-passengers after which he poured the petrol.</p>

<p>"Anilkumar from Thalasseri, his wife Sajisha, their son Advait, Ruby from Kannur and Prince from Thrissur, are among the passengers who were injured," said sources, as per news agency PTI.&nbsp;</p>

According to the schedule, Japan Airlines Co. flight JL331 was to depart from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 6:30 pm local time for a two-hour journey to reach Fukuoka, however, because of the last-minute plane switch, the takeoff faced a delay of around 90 minutes, reported Bloomberg reported.&nbsp;</p>

The crisis took place despite the earlier expectations of officials that the flight would land with 4 minutes to spare, said the airline in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Fukuoka airport officials, the airport officials do make exceptions for congestion or bad weather, allowing the delayed flight past the curfew time, however, while speaking to &nbsp;Asahi Shimbun newspaper, the official said that they didn’t regard this delay in the landing of the flight as “unavoidable”.</p>

<p>After missing the 10 pm curfew time of the airport, the airline went on a roundabout journey, taking 335 passengers to Tokyo again. The Bloomberg report stated that initially, the officials were considering re-routing the flight to the nearest city of Kitakyushu, however, because they were facing difficulty in arranging accommodation at the last minute for the 335 passengers travelling onboard, the plan was cancelled.</p>

<p>The plane was then landed at 10:59 pm at Kansai International Airport near Osaka, which was around 450 kilometres away from their original destination, added the report citing the airline officials. However, the passengers suffering did not come to an end as this destination lacked the accommodation arrangement for all the passengers and hence, the pilot took off the flight with 335 passengers again onboard.&nbsp;</p>

Despite a 45-day shutdown of one of Dubai International Airport's two runways for maintenance, the number of travellers utilising the airport nearly quadrupled during the second quarter. The world's busiest international airport handled 14.2 million passengers in the three months to the end of June, up almost 191 percent year on year, continuing growth for nine straight quarters since the start of the coronavirus epidemic, state-owned operator Dubai Airports said on Wednesday.</p>

<p>The airport's resurgence, which serves as the hub for long-haul carrier Emirates, coincides with a robust rebound in foreign traffic. According to the International Air Transport Association (Iata), international traffic increased by approximately 230 percent year on year in June, aided by the relaxation of travel restrictions in most Asia-Pacific regions.Passenger volumes more than doubled to 27.9 million in the first half of the year, according to Dubai Airports, compared to the same period last year. This is 1.2 million fewer than the previous year's total annual traffic at the airport.</p>

<p>The airport exceeded 67.5 percent of its pre-pandemic passenger throughput in the first half of 2019.Despite "unprecedented challenges" and "macroeconomic factors" affecting the global economy and tourism sector, Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) reported 7.12 million international visitors in the first half of 2022, nearly three times the 2.52 million recorded in the same period the previous year.</p>

<p>Dubai Airports now anticipates 62.4 million passengers in 2022, up from an earlier figure of 58.3 million in May. DXB remained India's leading source country in terms of passenger counts, with traffic hitting 4 million passengers in the first half of the year, fueled mostly by key metropolitan destinations such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Saudi Arabia came in second with 2 million passengers, followed by the United Kingdom with 1.9 million.</p>

<p>The top three destinations were London (1.3 million passengers), Riyadh (910,000 passengers), and Mumbai (760,000 passengers). Despite the disruption, huge queues, and delayed luggage at major European and American airports, DXB stated that 96% of travelers waited less than five minutes at the exit passport control.</p>

<p>The average wait time at the security checkpoint on departure was less than three minutes for 97 percent of all passengers.Cargo volumes for the first six months of the year declined roughly 19% year on year to 910,075 tonnes in the air freight market. According to Dubai Airports, DXB's cargo traffic suffered during the second quarter as major freight operators returned to Dubai World Central (DWC) in March.</p>

<p>Furthermore, overall cargo volumes were impacted by a lower capacity during the northern runway restoration operation, which ran from May 9 to June 22, because a large amount of cargo traffic at DXB is carried in the belly-hold of passenger aircraft, according to the report.<br />
