<p>French prosecutors said on Tuesday (January 3) that a preliminary inquiry was opened last month into "sexual assault on a vulnerable person" allegedly carried out by former Paris archbishop Michel Aupetit. The prosecutor said that the inquiry was initiated on a report filed by the diocese of Paris.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Michel Aupetit offered to resign in late 2021 following media reports of an intimate relationship with a woman in 2012 before he took on the post, allegations he has categorically denied. Pope Francis accepted the resignation.</p>

<p>French broadcaster BFMTV reported that the relationship was with a vulnerable person under judicial protection.</p>

<p>AFP quoted a source close to the case and said that the probe was looking into "email exchanges" between Aupetit and the woman. The consent of the woman would have to be confirmed in view of her mental health.</p>

<p>The diocese released a statement on Tuesday evening confirming that it had filed the report. As quoted by AFP, the diocese said that it was "not in a position to verify whether the facts in question are proven or whether they constitute an offence".&nbsp;</p>

<p>The clergyman's lawyer Jean Reinhart refused to comment.</p>

<p>"We have absolutely no knowledge of a complaint, so we cannot comment on the subject," he said.</p>

<p>A diocese spokeswoman in 2021 said Aupetit "had ambiguous behaviour with a person he was very close to", adding that it was "not a loving relationship", nor sexual.</p>

<p>But she said the offer to step down was "not a confession of guilt".</p>

<p>The man was found with a case loaded with a box of at least 25 cartridges and "two or three loaded magazines", the source added</p>

<p>The gunman has a history of racist violence. On Friday, he targeted the Kurdish cultural centre before entering a hairdressing salon where he was arrested.</p>

<p>Of the three wounded people, one was being given intensive care in hospital and two were treated for serious injuries.</p>

The French police and prosecutors said that the shooter was a male in his 60s and he was arrested by the authorities. <p>A resident told AFP that the man had been arrested in a hair salon.</p>

<p>Giant streaming platform Netflix-backed 'The Crown' has lately been busy filming its latest season, which leads up to Princess Diana’s death in Paris, France. New photos have surfaced online which reveal that the show will feature some scenes from the Paris car crash site, where Diana breathed her last in 1997.</p>

<p>Supposedly, to recreate the tragic car crash moment, the crew and cast of the series reached Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, which is the fateful location where Diana's driver crashed in 1997 while being tailed by paparazzi.</p>

<p>In the now-viral pictures, a Mercedes-Benz can be seen heading towards the tunnel, while being chased by paps on motorbikes. A sea of cameramen were also seen at the location to capture the scenes.</p>

<p>A Netflix spokesperson, however, had previously said that the exact moment of the crash impact will not be shown.</p>

<p>Paris police on Wednesday dismantled a camp that is home to over 100 crack users, the latest move in a campaign that has repeatedly displaced the addicts around the capital.</p>

<p>Residents and aid groups have for years been frustrated by authorities' failure to either clamp down on open drug dealing and crime in and around the camps or to provide appropriate treatment for users.</p>

<p>French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter as the evacuation got underway that this time, "1,000 officers will be deployed to prevent the camp from reforming somewhere else".</p>

<p>By mid-morning, tents, furniture and other items had been mostly removed and cleaning services had arrived, with a few of its inhabitants still visible in the surrounding streets.</p>

<p>The clearance was "inevitable and necessary to make our neighbourhoods habitable again", said Francois Dagnaud, mayor of Paris' 19th district.</p>

<p>But the possibility the camp might be reconstituted elsewhere "is a risk that should be on everyone's mind and that is in no one's interest," he added.</p>

<p>Over the past two years, successive evacuations have moved crack users from the Stalingrad square on the city's Saint-Martin canal, first to a nearby park, and then to their current site alongside the French capital's ring road.</p>

<p>Tackling the city's crack problem, visible on the streets for the past three decades has proved difficult due to the addictiveness of the drug, a cocaine derivative that sells for as little as $9.90 per dose.</p>

<p>Darmanin, a law-and-order hardliner, has given newly-installed Paris police chief Nunez a single year to wipe out crack in the capital.<br />
The interior ministry said that inhabitants of the camp wanted by police would be arrested, while foreigners without papers would be detained awaiting deportation.</p>

<p>"Other occupants will be directed towards accommodation structures with medical and social assistance, or to medical facilities," the ministry added.</p>

<p>But "in our view, the conditions aren't there to prevent further open locations" forming for crack dealing and consumption, said Marie Debrus of aid group Medecins du Monde, who was on the scene for the evacuation.</p>

<p>"In a few months we'll see them in the entrance halls of blocks of flats," she added, calling the clearance "a humanitarian crisis orchestrated by the authorities".</p>

<p>Aid groups say that between 300 and 400 people spent time in the camp during the day and around 150 at night, up to 40 per cent of them women. Dealers sold crack "rocks" openly among the groups of users.</p>

<p>As at other sites where the addicts have gathered, local residents have complained of assaults, thefts and other disruption since their arrival. Around 500 people demonstrated last month to mark the camp being in place for a year and demand its removal.</p>
