Just Stop Oil - an alleged environmental activist group, infamous for employing divisive methods to protest against the use of fossil fuels has been given a 'taste of their own medicine'.

During one of the meetings called by the group, titled "Beyond F****d Banquet', a YouTube prankster group derailed the proceedings by setting off balloons with alarms.

Video activists Josh Pieters and Archie Manners got one of their colleagues to infiltrate the protest group by posing as an activist. The mole then attended one of the protests and was then invited to the banquet where activists could “grieve for what will die, but also to celebrate what we have achieved”.

The meeting, with 100 per cent plant-based food was hosted in a disused church. The members of the prank group entered the venue with helium-filled balloons that would float and stick to the high ceiling of the church. As the balloons reached the ceiling, an alarm went off, leaving JSO members puzzled.

"They have left us with a very difficult problem to solve," one of the hosts could be heard saying. Afterwards, some people in hi-vis jackets are forced to erect ladders to bring down the balloons.

Taste of own medicine? Just Stop Oil meeting ruined by pranksters | VIDEO

There is no shortage of cricketing action amid the IPL 2022 edition. In match 18, the five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Saturday evening (April 09).

While the contest proved to be a dull affair, the match made heads turn when a fan ended up breaching the security and stormed into the middle to meet Virat Kohli and MI skipper Rohit Sharma. At that time, Kohli-starrer were involved in their modest 152-run chase after having asked MI to bat first.

The fan first ran towards Kohli and reached a fist pump as the latter was wearing his batting gloves. On the other hand, he then went towards Rohit, who was stationed at short covers. The Mumbai captain didn't come in contact with the fan, due to Covid-19 guidelines and bio-bubble restrictions, but gave him a virtual hug. Here's the video:

For people who think that exercise increases your blood pressure, it's not because a new study suggests the opposite.

Researchers at Canterbury Christ Church & Leicester Universities in their study published online in the British Journal of Sports Medicine stated that exercises like plank and wall sits reduce blood pressure, the Guardian reported.

The researchers compared the efficacies of various forms in lowering blood pressure and discovered that "isometric exercises," were nearly twice as effective as the exercise guidelines recommended.

The NHS website also suggests that adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate to intensity aerobic activity, such as cycling or fast walking, in a week along with healthy diet and lifestyle changes to reduce their blood pressure.

The study examined some 270 random clinical trials involving 15,827 participants to know the effects of particular exercises categorised into aerobic, HIIT, dynamic resistance training and isometric exercises on resting blood pressure.

A reader in cardiovascular physiology at Canterbury Christ Church University, Jamie O'Driscoll said the reason why isometric exercises are the most effective as the muscle remained contracted but did not change in length.

This is because static contraction while exercising can lead to the compression of blood vessels that supply blood to the active muscles, resulting in reduced blood flow and oxygen. After the exercise, when the muscle relaxes, there is a surge of blood flow through vessels triggering better blood regulation.

O'Driscoll said, "Performing 4 x 2 minutes of wall sits, with 2-minutes’ rest in between, three times per week, is an effective way to reduce your blood pressure. They should be done alongside other exercise modes, to provide the maximum range of exercise choices rather than limiting them."

A senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation, Joanne Whitmore said that it's encouraging to see the benefits of other forms of exercise along with aerobic exercises.

"We know that those who take on exercise they enjoy tend to carry on for longer, which is key in maintaining lower blood pressure." Furthermore, she said it is important to make lifestyle changes too, such as losing weight, eating healthily and reducing alcohol consumption to have the best results.

Exercises like planks and wall sits help lower blood pressure, reveals new study

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday announced that 1,400 pounds of cheese from New York based company have been recalled due to fears of listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The warning covers a range of the cheeses by Cooperstown Cheese Company, which is based in Milford, New York. These include company's cheese purchased, sold, and distributed through farmer's markets, restaurants, and retail stores from June 21, 2023, to July 10, 2023.

The FDA's recall comes as a precautionary measure to prevent potential serious infections from listeria.

What is Listeria?

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, as it can affect the fetus, leading to miscarriages and stillbirths.

Adults over the age of 65, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems are also at higher risk.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have warned of the dangers associated with listeria contamination.

Mild symptoms of listeria infection include fever, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting, while more severe symptoms can manifest as a stiff neck, headache, and convulsions.

According to The Cleveland Clinic, approximately 1,600 people in the US are diagnosed with listeria each year, usually due to consuming contaminated food.

Which cheese was affected?

As per the New York Post, cheese varieties that have been recalled include: Jersey Girl, Toma Celena, SK, Jersey Gold, Marielle, Jersey Girl with garlic/rosemary, Jersey Girl spring onion, Bobby's got the Blues, Toma Torino, Jersey Gold with garlic, and Abbie.

The FDA has recommended consumers to be cautious if they have purchased these products and to return them to the place of purchase for refund.

"The ceiling of the gymnasium completely fell down and the venue covers an area of about 1,200 square meters," state media CGTN reported. According to preliminary investigations, perlite, a form of volcanic glass that was piled on the roof soaked up the rainwater, which caused the roof to collapse around 15:00 local time Sunday (July 23). Authorities launched a hunt to nab those who constructed the building and managed to apprehend one of them in no time. A further investigation is currently underway. After two drones damaged buildings in Moscow early on Monday, including one near the Defence Ministry's headquarters, in what it called a daring act of terrorism, Russia threatened to take strong punitive action against Ukraine. However, one drone struck close to the Moscow facility where the Russian military gives briefings on what it calls its "special military operation," underscoring the reach of such drones even if no one was harmed in the strike, which a senior Ukrainian official indicated will continue.

Indian national capital's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has announced a plan to install 500 water ATMs across the city to provide drinking water treated using the Reverse Osmosis (RO) process to residents in slums and densely populated areas.

During an inspection of an RO plant in Delhi's Mayapuri, Kejriwal revealed that four water ATMs have already been installed, with 500 more planned for the first phase.

20 litres per person

Each person will reportedly receive a card that allows them to draw 20 litres of purified water per day from these ATMs. The ATMs will be strategically placed near slums and other areas where laying pipelines for water supply is challenging. Water sourced from tube wells will be treated at the RO plants before being distributed through the water ATMs.

Kejriwal emphasised that this initiative aims to ensure that even economically disadvantaged individuals have access to safe drinking water.

Talking to reporters, the chief minister, as per a Hindustan Times report, said: "This card is like a water ATM. Through this, each person will get 20 litres of purified water in areas with inadequate drinking water facilities."

"We know rich people install RO at their home, but now poor people will drink the same water," he remarked.

The water ATMs, as per a PTI report, will function like a water bank, offering purified water to those living in areas with inadequate drinking water facilities.

Earlier this year, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) received directives from the chief minister to address the issue of contaminated water in various parts of the city. As part of the plan, RO-based purification plants will be set up in 20 slum clusters across Delhi to provide clean drinking water.

“It’s not just a hidden room — it’s a serious vault. It had a huge heavy-duty safe door. He went and poured new concrete walls, massive amount of concrete to encase this room," said his former coworker, adding, “It was maybe 2 or 3 feet thick."

A row has erupted nearly a month after scientists claimed that the ancient human species Homo naledi displayed sophisticated behaviour, despite having much smaller brains than us, the Homo sapiens.

A row has erupted nearly a month after scientists claimed that the ancient human species Homo naledi displayed sophisticated behaviour, despite having much smaller brains than us, the Homo sapiens. The study, which was not peer-reviewed then, had opened a conversation about human evolution and whether we had got some aspects wrong. The tide, however, has turned now. Peer reviews of the H. naledi study are in and they are scathing in their assessment - accusing the researchers of overexaggerating the facts. “These claims are inadequate, incomplete and are largely assumption-based – rather than evidence-based,” said one, while another called the papers "imprudent and incomplete". Meanwhile, a third dismissed the finding saying the papers “do not present convincing evidence”. “I have no issue with the idea that non-Homo sapiens species disposed of their dead, but I do have an expectation that there is robust scientific evidence to support such statements before scientists go on massive media campaigns regarding these ideas,” palaeoanthropologist Andy Herries of La Trobe University in Melbourne was quoted as saying by The Guardian. Some displayed their displeasure saying the Netflix documentary, Unknown: Cave of Bones, based on the findings, screened last week, could detract from the study of the site in future. “Rising Star is such a great site and the naledi material is so wonderful that there was really no need to over-egg the pudding,” said Prof Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum, London, adding, “It’s going to cause problems of credibility in future, which may even affect funding for more work.” “To push a notion that is so unsubstantiated that it has met with rejection by the scientific community is irresponsible,” added Paige Madison, a researcher at Arizona State University. WATCH | Ancient human civilisation needed three attempts & 12,000 years to colonise Europe: Study × What did the study claim? Last month, three studies, published in the journal eLife claimed that H naledi not only buried their dead but made engravings deep within a cave system in southern Africa some 300,000 years ago. Paleoanthropologist Lee Berger, who first reported the discovery of Homo naledi in 2013 inside the Rising Star cave system 25 miles northwest of Johannesburg, was responsible for the new claims. Also read | Not homo sapiens but this extinct human species buried their dead first Berger and his team found more than 1,800 bone fragments deep in an underground chamber reachable only by a four-story vertical drop. The only plausible explanation for the situation seemed like a burial which may push the "body burials" timeline by at least 10,000 years, the research argued.
