ISRO Aditya L1:The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set for its first Solar Mission, Aditya L1 which is likely to take off on August 26, 2023. It is the first Indian space mission to study the sun. The sun constantly influences Earth with heat, radiation, and solar wind. The Aditya L1 aims at studying the atmosphere of the Sun as it releases huge amounts of energy into the Solar System. These energies cause several disturbances in the space environment near the Earth.&nbsp;

Aditya L1 spacecraft is planned to be kept in a halo orbit around a point named L1 Lagrange point. The Lagrange point is about 1.5 million km away from Earth in the Earth-Sun system. Keeping the orbit around L1 has the advantage of continuously viewing the sun without any eclipses. The spacecraft contains seven payloads to observe the different layers of the Sun.&nbsp;

<h2>Here’s everything you need to know about Aditya L1</h2>

<h3>Why is the mission named Aditya L1?</h3>

The mission was initially proposed as Aditya 1, a satellite carrying a single payload, and was aimed at observing only the solar corona. It was renamed as Aditya L1 because now it is planned to position at the L1 Lagrange point of the Earth-Sun system and the Aditya L1 satellite carries seven payloads.

<h3>What are the scientific objectives of Aditya L1?</h3>

The Space agency wants to understand Coronal Heating and Solar Wind Acceleration.

The objective is to understand the initiation of Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), flares and near-earth space weather.

ISRO targets to understanding the coupling and dynamics of the solar atmosphere

To know about solar wind distribution and temperature anisotropy.

<h3>What is the uniqueness of the mission?</h3>

The mission is unique in its &nbsp;way as it is the first time spatially resolved solar disk in the near UV band.

The spacecraft has unique CME dynamics close to the solar disk and provides information on the acceleration regime of CME which is not observed continuously.

The Onboard intelligence to detect CMEs and solar flares have unique features to provide optimised observations and data volume.

Spacecraft will use multi-direction observations for directional and energy anisotropy of solar wind.

<h3>What are Lagrange Points?</h3>

Lagrange points are the spots in space where an object tends to stay if put in there. In the Earth-Sun space system, there are 5 Lagrange Points named L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5. L1 lies between the line of Earth and Sun. The distance between L1 and Earth is approximately 1% of Earth-sun distance.&nbsp;

The AdityaL1 mission will subsequently land at the L1 Lagrange Point and it will take around 4 months after the launch for Aditya L1 to reach the desired Lagrange Point.

<h3>Will AdityaL1 do a complete study about the Sun?</h3>

According to ISRO scientists, no space mission can do a complete study because of the limited mass and volume of spacecraft that are sent to Space.&nbsp;

AdityaL1 will examine all the measurements from lagrange point L1 but several phenomena of the sun are multidirectional so it becomes difficult to have a complete study from L1 lagrange point. Therefore, L1 will only examine within its capabilities.&nbsp;

After two decades of protesting his innocence, a man in Greater Manchester has successfully got a rape conviction quashed. Andy Malkinson's rape conviction and its subsequent quashing have raised serious questions about the justice system's handling of his case.&nbsp;

Malkinson spent 17 years of the two decades behind bars, fighting for his innocence in a case in which DNA evidence has now implicated another man.

<h2>Immeasurable damage</h2>

The Crown Prosecution Service, as per BBC, did not oppose Malkinson's appeal and on Wednesday (July 26th, 2023) the Court of Appeals ruled in his favour.

As per the BBC report, the nightmare began when in 2003 Greater Manchester Police arrested Malkinson, a resident of Grimsby, for a crime he knew nothing about.&nbsp;

According to evidence provided to Congress on Wednesday by an ex-Air Force intelligence official, the US has been concealing a long-running operation that retrieves and decodes unidentified flying objects. The Pentagon refuted his allegations. The presentation of retired Maj. David Grusch before a House Oversight subcommittee was the most recent incursion by Congress into the topic of UAPs, or "unidentified aerial phenomena," as the US government refers to "unidentified flying objects." The second quarter of this year saw an acceleration in US economic growth, exceeding analysts' expectations and supporting the Biden administration's claim that the boom is picking up steam. The government reported on Thursday that the GDP increased by 2.4 percent on an annualized basis from April through June. This is the second piece of good news for the White House this week after forecasts from the Congressional Budget Office and experts at the Federal Reserve indicated that the United States will avoid a recession this year.

An ex-Air Force intelligence official told Congress on Wednesday that the US has been hiding a long-running programme that recovers and decodes unidentified flying objects. The Pentagon refuted his allegations. Retired Maj. David Grusch's eagerly awaited appearance before a House Oversight subcommittee marked Congress' most recent venture into the subject of UAPs, or "unidentified aerial phenomena," the term the U.S. government employs in place of "unidentified flying objects."

The Yamuna River continues to flow above the danger limit of 205.33 metres with its peak level recorded at 205.75 metres at 8 am at Delhi Railway Bridge on Thursday.

The Yamuna River continues to flow above the danger limit of 205.33 metres with its peak level recorded at 205.75 metres at 8 am at Delhi Railway Bridge on Thursday. On Wednesday, several parts of Delhi-NCR were lashed with heavy rain, prompting an 'orange alert' from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The rise in Yamuna's water level has once again sparked concerns over the capital's flood-like situation. Yamuna's water level has been hovering around the danger mark for the past few days, following its all-time high pattern of 208.66 metres recorded on July 13, which forced hundreds to evacuate. Till now, a total of 1,300 villagers have been displaced and moved to shelters while some 1,600 hectares of land has submerged in Noida and Greater Noida. Manish Kumar Verma, the Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate and Lokesh M Noida Authority CEO visited the affected villages and reviewed the situation. Earlier this week, a company's huge yard field with parked cars submerged in Hindon water in the Ecotech 3 area of Greater Noida. The rise in the water levels of Yamuna and Hindon occurred due to Wednesday's heavy downpour prompting 'flood-like concerns" among residents. Delhi: Yamuna water level continues to flow above danger mark, Hindon water recedes

As the 20th anniversary of Concorde's final flight approaches, the world of ultrafast air travel is poised to enter a new phase. It is poised on the verge of&nbsp;a revolution in aviation, with suborbital and supersonic technologies offering the potential to dramatically reduce global travel times, ushering in a new era of&nbsp;air travel.

Concorde, the first supersonic commercial airliner, was renowned for its remarkable speed, allowing passengers to travel from New York to London in under three hours. However, the high maintenance costs and a high-profile crash in 2000 eventually led to the end of Concorde&nbsp;era.

<h2>Son of Concorde and the future</h2>

Now, NASA's X-59, nicknamed "Son of Concorde"&nbsp;has caught the spotlight with its experimental supersonic aircraft.&nbsp;

The supersonic aircraft, as per a New York Post, may soon be ready for its first test flights, which can potentially reduce the New York to London journey time to about three and a half hours.

While smaller and slower than its predecessor, the X-59 can still reach speeds of 925 mph.&nbsp;

<h2>'Earth to Earth' flights</h2>

While impressive, X-59 is not "it". As per the report, even more, groundbreaking advancements are on the horizon.&nbsp;

According to recent research by Britain's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a flight from London to Sydney, which currently takes 22 hours, could be reduced to just two hours by 2033.&nbsp;

The answer lies in suborbital "Earth to Earth" flights that use rockets to propel passengers up to 125 miles into space at speeds exceeding 3,500 mph. Using rockets similar to Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic jet programs, the craft then rapidly descends to the final destination, thereby significantly cutting journey times.

Aviation moguls, and visionaries like Elon Musk, are already investing in suborbital travel.&nbsp;

Musk's SpaceX's in 2020 revealed plans for its Starship rocket to transport 100 passengers between continents in less than an hour.&nbsp;

Not only this, recently Chinese company Space Transportation also announced that it intends to conduct suborbital testing with its reusable "rocket with wings," aiming for a test flight by 2024 and a crewed flight by 2025.

They estimate that their suborbital spacecraft called Tianxing I can potentially complete a 4,300-mile (6,920 kilometres) trip in about an hour. &nbsp;

<h2>Potential market and the risks</h2>

The potential market for suborbital flights is immense. As per Switzerland's UBS, if just 5 per cent of the 150 million annual flights lasting over 10 hours transitioned to point-to-point suborbital space travel, the market could exceed $20 billion per year.&nbsp;

UBS estimates that the total value of the subsonic market could reach $805 billion by 2030.

However, despite the prospects, suborbital flights face numerous challenges. Safety remains paramount, particularly given the higher risks associated with rocket propulsion fuels like the liquified natural gas used by Blue Origin, or the liquid oxygen and liquid methane used by Starship — which are more prone to exploding than typical aviation fuel.&nbsp;

Environmental concerns also surround rocket-propelled aircraft, reports New York Post, as their emissions are under little or no regulations.

Another major concern revolves around the impact of G-forces on the human body during launch and reentry. As per Dr Ryan Anderton, the medical lead of the Civil Aviation Authority's space team, While suborbital journeys will be relatively short, "the main challenge faced will be the exposure to G-forces on launch and reentry."&nbsp;

Talking to the post, he said: We know this can affect the flow of blood around the body and to the head and it can sometimes generate abnormal heart rhythms."

The 'Worldcoin project', led by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has captured global attention as people around the world undergo eyeball scans in exchange for a digital ID and the promise of receiving free cryptocurrency.&nbsp;

Launched on Monday, the project initiated eyeball scans in various countries, including Britain, Japan, and India.&nbsp;

<h2>The goal behind 'Worldcoin project'</h2>

Its primary goal, as per Reuters, is to establish a new "identity and financial network," enabling users to prove their human identity online and differentiate themselves from bots.

The Worldcoin project claims to have issued IDs to over two million people in 120 countries during a trial period over the past two years. This&nbsp;has&nbsp;raised eyebrows among privacy campaigners and data regulators.

<h2>'Orbs are here'</h2>

At a crypto conference in Tokyo, attendees eagerly queued to have their irises scanned by a device placed near a gleaming silver globe, with the hope of receiving 25 free Worldcoin tokens, as offered by the company to verified users.

While some participants expressed curiosity and excitement about the cutting-edge crypto project, others told Reuters they weighed privacy concerns and potential data collection risks.

One user, 33-year-old Saeki Sasaki told Reuters that "there's a risk with having the data of your own eyes collected by a company, but I like to follow the most up-to-date crypto projects."

"I was a bit scared, but I've done it now and can’t take it back," she added.&nbsp;

<h2>'Verified human'</h2>

On Monday (July 24th), in east London, Worldcoin representatives showcased the project's app and conducted retinal scans, rewarding participants with free t-shirts and stickers labelled "verified human."&nbsp;

However, not all users read Worldcoin's privacy policy, which raises concerns about data being accessible to subcontractors and authorities.

Despite the risks and critiques from privacy advocates, the allure of free cryptocurrency tokens encouraged many to share personal data.&nbsp;

"It's quite concerning but I think a lot of companies have our data at this point," said one user.

Others claimed that considering the future challenges of distinguishing human from artificial intelligence, they found the project intriguing.

<h2>Experts raise concerns</h2>

Critics, including the US privacy campaigner Electronic Privacy Information Center, have labelled Worldcoin's data-collection practices as a "potential privacy nightmare."&nbsp;

UK privacy campaign group Big Brother Watch expressed concern about potential data hacking and exploitation of biometric data.&nbsp;

"Digital ID systems increase state and corporate control over individuals' lives and rarely live up to the extraordinary benefits technocrats tend to attribute to them," said the group's senior advocacy officer Madeleine Stone.

However, the company, on its website, asserts that the project is "completely private" and allows users to either delete their biometric data or store it in encrypted form.
