Federal prosecutors have seized nearly $700 million in assets from FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried in January, largely in the form of Robinhood stock, according to a court filing on Friday. Bankman-Fried, who has been accused of stealing billions of dollars from FTX customers to pay debts incurred by his crypto-focused hedge fund, has pleaded not guilty to fraud charges. He is scheduled to face trial in October.

The Department of Justice revealed the seizure of Robinhood shares earlier this month, but it provided a more complete list of seized assets Friday, including cash held at various banks and assets deposited at crypto exchange Binance.

The ownership of the seized Robinhood shares, valued at about $525 million, has been the subject of dispute between Bankman-Fried, FTX, and bankrupt crypto lender BlockFi.

The most recent asset seizure reported by the DOJ took place on Thursday, when prosecutors seized $94.5 million in cash from an account at Silvergate Bank which was associated with FTX Digital Markets, FTX's subsidiary in the Bahamas. The DOJ seized more than $7 million from other Silvergate accounts associated with Bankman-Fried and FTX.

The DOJ previously seized nearly $50 million from an FTX Digital Markets account at Moonstone Bank, a small bank in Washington state.

DOJ also said that assets in three Binance accounts associated with Bankman-Fried were subject to criminal forfeiture, but did not provide an estimate of the value in those accounts.

‘I had lost hope’: 47-year-old man survives on ketchup for 24 days at sea

Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared in a San Francisco federal courtroom on Friday in a trial over a 2018 tweet in which he claimed to have “secured funding” to take Tesla private, a tweet that shareholders allege cost them millions in trading losses, and defended himself by saying that “just because I tweet something does not mean people believe it or will act accordingly”.

Wearing a dark suit over a white button-down shirt, the billionaire testified for less than 30 minutes before the court adjourned on Monday, Guardian reported. Musk spoke softly and in bemused manner sometimes, a contrast to his combative testimony in past trials.

Musk’s testimony began with questions about his use of Twitter, the microblogging site he bought in October and called it the most democratic way to communicate while adding that his tweets did not always affect Tesla stock the way he expected.

The class-action trial in San Francisco court centres on allegations that Musk had lied when he tweeted, costing investors. Earlier, investor Timothy Fries told the jury how he lost $5,000 by buying Tesla stock after Musk’s tweet.

Fries told the jury that funding secured meant to him that “there had been some vetting, some critical review of those funding sources”.

Musk described the difficulties the company went through around the time he sent the “funding secured” tweet, including bets by short-sellers that the stock would fall.

“A bunch of sharks on Wall Street wanted Tesla to die, very badly,” he said, describing short-sellers, who profit when a stock falls in price.

On Wednesday, Musk’s attorney, Alex Spiro, told the jury that his client believed he had financing from Saudi backers and was taking steps to make the deal happen and had tried to protect the “shareholders” by posting the tweet that had “technical inaccuracies”.

A jury of nine will decide whether the tweet artificially inflated Tesla's share price by playing up the status of the funding for the deal and if so, by how much.

UNESCO has inscribed a traditional connection between camels and the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula in its list of intangible cultural heritage. The UN cultural agency said that a skilled camel herder can use his voice to soothe the animal, make it kneel and change directions as they trudge together through the desert sands with a signal, AFP reported.

The main motive behind UNESCO listing the communication is to protect the "Alheda'a" and provide an opportunity for its development.

It said, "Herders train their camels to recognise the difference between right and left, to open their mouths when asked, and to kneel down to be ridden."
