The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday called as "mischievous interpretation" the criticism over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks at an all-party meeting that no one has entered Indian territory or captured any military post while referring to the Galwan Valley clash in eastern Ladakh.

In a statement, the PMO said the focus of Modi's remarks at the meeting on Friday was the events of June 15 at Galwan that led to the loss of lives of 20 Indian military personnel.

"The prime minister's observations that there was no Chinese presence on our side of the LAC (Line of Actual Control) pertained to the situation as a consequence of the bravery of our armed forces," it said.

The Congress as well as a number of strategic affairs experts raised questions over Modi's remarks asking if there was no transgression by the Chinese military in Galwan Valley then where did Indian soldiers die. They also wondered whether Modi gave a clean chit to China over the standoff.

"The sacrifices of the soldiers of the 16 Bihar Regiment foiled the attempt of the Chinese side to erect structures and also cleared the attempted transgression at this point of the LAC on that day," the PMO said.

"The words of the prime minister 'those who tried to transgress our land were taught a befitting lesson by our brave sons of soil', succinctly summed up the ethos and the values of our armed forces," it said.

The PMO said Modi assured that India's armed forces will leave no stone unturned to protect the country's borders.

The loss of three Indian soldiers amid a faceoff with the Chinese army has triggered sentimemtal requests to act against it.

The citizens of the India are urging its government to Impose economic sanctions on Chinese companies, prevent them from entering Indian market and prohibit their access to India's large consumer base.

The company in question is STEC, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company.

It has emerged as the lowest bidder to carve an underground tunnel in the national capital region.

Five bidders participated in the process, including India's Larsen & Toubro but STEC made the lowest bid at 1,126 crore rupees.

The bidding process can be blamed for this. L&t had the second lowest bid at 1,170 crore rupees.

Now, demands are being made to give the contract to an Indian firm. Financial gains of a few crores today could jeopardise national security tomorrow.

No doubt the Chinese company's bid is backed by the Chinese government. Countries usually get carried away by such cheap Chinese services and lose sight of national security.

Worse still countries also lose self-reliance due to which domestic companies lose the edge and in time, they start losing projects in every bid.

Gone too soon: PM Modi and other politicians mourn Sushant Singh Rajput's tragic death

The BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved in five years what the Congress could not in its 55 years' reign, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday.

He was addressing his party's `Jan Samvadvirtual rally' here from Nagpur.

"What the Congress could not do in 55 years, the BJP government under the leadership of Modi has done in just five years," the senior BJP leader said.

Nationalism was his party's priority and ideology, and the Modi government has manifested it in the way it is dealing with Maoists and terrorists, Gadkari said.

Their "appeasement" has now ended and Maoists and terrorists are being dealt with an iron hand, he added.

Under Modi's leadership, nationalism which puts the country's interest above other things is being pursued and vote bank politics is receding, the BJP leader further said.

By annulling Article 370 which gave a special status to Jammu and Kashmir and clearing the hurdles in the way of the construction of Ram Temple, the BJP has stuck to its ideology, Gadkari said.

Nethra’s father told WION that she aspires to become a civil servant and work towards alleviating poverty and hunger.

“We have spent our savings (of Rs 5 lakh) for the welfare of the needy, because our daughter felt that we could always earn it back, but that isn’t daily the case with those who are struggling for even a meal.”

Over the last 20 days, the family’s salon has been in operation, following a nearly two-month lockdown.

Mohandoss says that customers have been visiting in good numbers and also expressing their appreciation. “We have received phone calls expressing gratitude from people whom we have known and complete strangers. We never imagined that we would get calls from the IAS officers, ministers, collector, police officials etc” he said.

He adds that their philanthropic work will continue and that there are a lot of people who have approached them to offer their contributions. “We have politely said no to cash contributions and agreed to accept rice, vegetables and groceries, which we can donate to the needy.”

The family is also grateful to their daughter’s school which has been bearing her educational expenses for over two years now.

He adds that their philanthropic work will continue and that there are a lot of people who have approached them to offer their contributions. “We have politely said no to cash contributions and agreed to accept rice, vegetables and groceries, which we can donate to the needy.” The family is also grateful to their daughter’s school which has been bearing her educational expenses for over two years now.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India has now left the lockdown behind and has entered unlock phase 1.

“While it is true that coronavirus has slowed down our growth, India has now left the lockdown behind and has entered unlock phase 1. So in a way, we have already started getting our growth back. I have confidence in India’s capabilities, crisis management,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi was attending the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Session 2020- “Getting Growth Back” where he addressed the issue of economic slowdown due to coronavirus and how to revive it as alarm bells ring for Indian economy.

Here are the highlights of PM Modi's speech:

1: Coronavirus is an unprecedented crisis where we have several priorities as we handle the situation — we have to revive the economy while keeping the welfare of the poor in mind.

2: Getting growth back is what we also have our motto as we reopen the economy. I have full faith in India's crisis management, talent, technology, innovation, and intellect.

3: I have faith in India's farmers, entrepreneurs, industry leaders. Therefore, yes, we will get our growth back. India will get its growth back. Friends, coronavirus may have impeded our speed, but the reality today is that we have left the lockdown phase behind and now we are in the Unlock 1.0 phase.

4: A large part of the economy has reopened. The rest will reopen on June 8.

5: We were able to do all this because even as the rest of the world was struggling in the grips of coronavirus, we took the right steps at the right time.

6: To bring India back on track for fast-paced growth five things are very important: Intent, Inclusion, Investment, Infrastructure, Innovation.

7: Under PM Gareeb Kalyan Yojana, Rs 53,000 crore worth of financial assistance has already been provided to the poor.

8: During the lockdown, the govt provided 80 million LPG cylinders right at the doorstep of the poor.

9: We have made decisions to make our economy and sectors future-ready. Our reforms are not scattered; rather, our reforms are planned, futuristic. For us, reforms mean taking it to the logical conclusion.

10: The private sector's participation across sectors of the economy are now truly a reality.

11: If a country like ours, which is the biggest storehouse of coal, had to import coal for its requirements, there were policy bottlenecks that needed reform.

In a communication to state units and other senior office-bearers, BJP general secretary Arun Singh said all big state units will hold at least two virtual rallies and smaller units will hold one, adding that more than 750 people should attend each of these programmes.

It had taken office on May 30 last year.

BJP to hold virtual rallies to mark the first anniversary of Modi 2.0

While the rest of the world is grappling COVID-19, China is very strategically preparing itself for a post-COVID-19 world. Its economy is capitalistic and centrally directed. Additionally, military capabilities are being built and alliances are being developed so that Xi Jinping can flex muscle as a global superpower after the crisis. The truth is that China will remain significantly influential in Asia and Africa after the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason, India is the strongest candidate in the region that can stand up to China. This is because India has a viable geographical location, a strong, young workforce and large economy. And it is President Trump who can help India stand up to and get ahead of China.

For the past few decades, China has slowly and steadily expanded influence in South Asia. At present, China is very visibly stepping in and assisting weaker nations fight coronavirus. The intention is to control them in the future. Unlike President Trump who has been quite verbose in blaming China, PM Modi has chosen to not openly call China out for the pandemic. Instead, India has strategically changed policy and provisions. For instance, foreign direct investment (FDI) rules were changed in April. The new rules required any ‘border-sharing country’ to get the Government of India’s official approval to invest in India. China was displeased and belligerently called the rules discriminatory.

Moreover, a significant number of Indian intellectuals want Taiwan to be an active part of World Health Organization meetings. This will successfully check back China’s dominance exerted on the WHO. Since India will be leading the executive board of WHO’s next meeting, there is a strong consensus that PM Modi should agree to Taiwan acting as an observer. Furthermore, India has respected a ‘One China Policy’ for decades. Now, Indian policy experts are aggressively asserting that China should recognize a ‘One India Policy’ as well. Specifically, this will require China to give up its claims on Indian territory.

For quite some time now, America has called upon India to step up and play a more dominant role in the Indo-Pacific region. The timing could not be better. The Modi-Trump ‘bromance’ is going stronger than ever. With a preferred defence partnership and strong trade ties, US-China relations could never be better. Moreover, the American government has publicly stated that the USA needs to reduce dependence on China. One way to do this is reforming American global supply chains. This process has already begun.

American multinational corporations and companies are also moving out of China. Thanks to President Trump’s encouragement, a plethora of these firms are relocating to India. The recent Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan economic stimulus package is very strategic because it attracts FDI to India in several ways. MSME’s are getting strong, significant support. Beneficial labour market reforms are getting implemented. Manufacturing is being boosted and tax exemptions for setting up companies will result in new enterprises in labour-intensive sectors like food processing and textiles. The impact? This economic stimulus package provides greater ease of doing business, much-needed labour reforms and some serious tax incentives for Indian and foreign companies.

With the USA being one of India’s largest foreign direct investors, this economic stimulus package makes India economically attractive. With President Trump in office, there is no doubt that substantial American foreign investment will come to India. In fact, the United States of America will indubitably become India’s preferred investor. Among others, another nation that will invest in India is Japan who is reportedly at present incentivizing its firms to leave China. With this steady foreign direct investment flow, India can diversify imports and break free from Chinese dependence. Taking advantage of presently solid defence ties with the USA, India can overcome Chinese bullying for good.

For India, President Trump is indisputably the preferred candidate to win the upcoming American presidential election. Democratic candidate Joe Biden will do very little for India. His personal ties and lenient policies towards China that have come out on public record will only weaken India-USA relations over the next few years. To add, if Biden is elected, China will be able to continue its nationalistic agenda. This agenda may include bioterrorism. The world has seen the terrifying impact with the coronavirus pandemic bringing down even the strongest and most capable nations.

Over 100 countries have signed a resolution which seeks an investigation to learn the origin of the coronavirus disease. If China is to blame, there will certainly be severe consequences for Xi Jinping. India needs to take advantage of this momentum. Present circumstances and sentiment offer an invaluable opportunity for India to become the unquestionable leader of the region and exert influence over China. For this to happen, there is no better time for PM Modi to play the ‘Trump’ card.

A dispute between India and and its neighbouring country Nepal has escalated into a full blown diplomatic crisis.

Nepal will be issuing a new political map to regain the territories which belong to India according to its map.

Nepal's President, Bidhya Devi Bhandari has claimed that the territories of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh belong to them.

The government of Nepal is objecting to a road constructed by India.

This is a new link road to Kailash Mansarovar that goes through the Lipulekh pass in Uttarakhand.

Nepal had issued a strong protest in the last week and summoned the Indian envoy to prove its seriousness regarding the whole issue.

And now, it has staked claim over Lipulekh pass, a territory that India controls.

India and Nepal were in the process of resolving this dispute. Foreign secretaries of both the nations were going to meet as well.

However, the coronavirus outbreak has delayed the talks.

The project has been in the public domain since the UPA government era. They had cleared it way back in 2005.

The BJP government began work on it two years ago.

Surprisingly, Nepal did not notice the construction work for such a long period of time. The developments couldn't have escaped Nepal's radar.

It still remains unclear as to what made nepal choose to object now when the road was inaugurated.

Governments all across the globe are banking on tourism for their economic revival which is their top priority at the moment.

Although leading health experts have warned against the re-opening of tourist sites stating that the pandemic is ''far from over,'' governments are still willing to take the risk because tourism contributes to approximately 3-4 per cent of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

China, the home of the outbreak, eased its the restrictions imposed in the country and lifted its lockdown after 76 days with only a meagre amount of tourists and fear of a second wave of the fatal virus, only to salvage its plunging economy.

The European Union has pushed for gradual reopening of internal borders, which were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is currently working on lockdown exit strategies. The commission also expressed that it was not too late to salvage the summer season for tourism and has also recommended a phased approach to reopen the borders.

The organisation has taken such a step despite the fact that many of the continent's countries including Italy, Spain, France were among the worst hit by the Wuhan virus.

The major reason behind such a step is that these countries are also among Europe's top tourist destinations.

It is willing to allow unrestricted movement across member states with safety measures such as face masks on airplanes and social distancing also because Europe is the most visited region in the world.

The tourism sector of the bloc, which accounts for about 10 percent its economy, was pushed on the brink of collapse after the pandemic.

Emergency border control measures rendered millions of people jobless. It is partially why the region is also working on individual plans.

While, German Chanellor Angela Merkel declared the elimination of border controls from June 15 across the Schengen region. On the other hand the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are creating a ''travel bubble.'' They will reopen borders to each others’ citizens from May 15.

India is keen to restart tourism as well. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi specifically highlighted the need to revive the country's domestic tourism and announced an economic stimulus of 10 per cent of it GDP because it contributes roughly the same share to India's economy.

Therefore, the governments are keen on kickstarting tourism to get their economies back on track as they have come to the realisation that the world will have to learn to live with the virus.

Indian PM Narendra Modi's stimulus package almost equal to Pakistan's annual GDP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a Rs 20 lakh economic package for a 'self-reliant' India -- in order to revive an economy ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic. This is expected to benefit farmers and middle-class families, he said. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will give more details in the coming days.

PM Modi, in a televised address to the nation, said the economic package for the "Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan" was close to 10 per cent of India's GDP. The special economic package is aimed at benefitting our labourers, farmers, honest tax payers, MSMEs and cottage industry.

The prime minister added the new rules for the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown will be announced before May 18.

PM Modi addressed the nation even as the total number of coronavirus cases in India topped 70,000, while the death toll neared 2,900. He said, "The unprecedented crisis has disrupted the global economy. We had never seen or heard about such a crisis ever before. This is definitely unimaginable for mankind. This was unprecedented. But humanity will not accept defeat from this virus. We have to not only protect ourselves but also move forward. Today when the entire world is in crisis, we will have to further firm our resolve.

"We have been able to convert pandemic into an opportunity. The meaning of self-reliant is changed across the world. Focus now is on economy centric globalisation versus human centric globalisation.

"India has some of the best talents in the world. We will improve our quality and make best products; we will improve our supply chains. We can do this and we will do this.

"It just isn’t our dream but our responsibility too to ensure that the 21st century belongs to India," he said, adding a self-reliant India was the only way ahead."

The prime minister also appreciated the way the industries stepped up in the times of coronavirus crisis.

"Not even a single PPE kit was manufactured in India when the coronavirus crisis started -- only a few N95 masks were available. Today 2 lakh PPE kits and 2 lakh N95 masks are being manufactured in India daily," he said.

Adding to his self-reliant narrative, PM Modi said, "When India speaks of self-reliance, it does not advocate for a self-centered system. In India's self-reliance, there is a concern for the whole world's happiness, cooperation and peace."

To this end, PM Modi announced a Rs 20 lakh-crore stimulus package, which is worth almost 10 per cent of India's GDP.

India imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 25 to combat the spread of the deadly virus. The government is now starting to pull back from one of the world's tightest lockdowns of 1.3 billion people that has left millions out of work and stranded in cities far from home while infections keep rising.

India's coronavirus infections have risen to 70,756, including 2,293 deaths.

In India's self-reliance, there is a concern for the whole world's happiness, cooperation and peace." To this end, PM Modi announced a Rs 20 lakh-crore stimulus package, which is worth almost 10 per cent of India's GDP. "I announce a special economic package today.
