Tesla & other big automakers are in a bind after investing heavily in the booming electric car market. Their dilemma -- what to do when demand cools? The market for electric vehicles is still growing, albeit at a far slower rate than in the past. Tesla, the market leader in electric vehicles, and traditional automakers are now proceeding with caution.

EU warns Musk to tackle spread of disinformation on X after Hamas attack on Israel

<p>SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk made a bold declaration that SpaceX could achieve a spacecraft landing on Mars within three to four years during a video conference at the International Astronautical Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan.</p>

<p>He also expressed optimism about the SpaceX Starship, renowned as the largest and most potent launch vehicle ever constructed, indicating that it has a promising outlook for its upcoming flight. However, Musk's ambitious vision faces significant challenges and regulatory hurdles, and this article offers a detailed overview.</p>

<h2><strong>Musk's Mars landing ambition</strong></h2>

<p>Elon Musk's statement about the possibility of SpaceX landing a spacecraft on Mars within three to four years underscores his unyielding commitment to pushing the boundaries of space exploration.</p>

<p>SpaceX's Starship embarked on its maiden uncrewed test flight from the Starbase facility in Boca Chica on April 20, 2023.</p>

<p>The mission faced a major setback when the upper stage of the launch vehicle failed to separate from the lower-stage Super Heavy, leading to a mid-air explosion.</p>

<p>Originally designed for a 90-minute debut flight, the mission was cut short in under four minutes, ending in failure.</p>

<p>Elon Musk acknowledged the importance of not setting overly optimistic expectations following the April explosion, emphasising SpaceX's commitment to learning from setbacks.</p>

<p>Despite the challenges, Musk continues to hold onto his long-standing aspiration of using the Starship rocket to facilitate human landings on Mars.</p>

<p>The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded the Starship in September due to the April incident.</p>

<p>The FAA's decision followed the conclusion of an investigation into the explosion, which identified numerous potential contributing factors and prompted the agency to stipulate 63 corrective actions to prevent similar incidents.</p>

<p>A Reuters report suggested that the FAA might expedite a launch license for the Starship, possibly as early as October, pending successful resolution of the identified issues.</p>

<p>SpaceX maintains that it has effectively addressed all concerns outlined by the FAA.</p>

He also expressed optimism about the SpaceX Starship, renowned as the largest and most potent launch vehicle ever constructed, indicating that it has a promising outlook for its upcoming flight. However, Musk's ambitious vision faces significant challenges and regulatory hurdles, and this article offers a detailed overview. Musk's Mars landing ambition Elon Musk's statement about the possibility of SpaceX landing a spacecraft on Mars within three to four years underscores his unyielding commitment to pushing the boundaries of space exploration. SpaceX's Starship embarked on its maiden uncrewed test flight from the Starbase facility in Boca Chica on April 20, 2023. The mission faced a major setback when the upper stage of the launch vehicle failed to separate from the lower-stage Super Heavy, leading to a mid-air explosion. Also read | Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, strips headlines from news story links for ‘aesthetics’ Originally designed for a 90-minute debut flight, the mission was cut short in under four minutes, ending in failure. Elon Musk acknowledged the importance of not setting overly optimistic expectations following the April explosion, emphasising SpaceX's commitment to learning from setbacks. Despite the challenges, Musk continues to hold onto his long-standing aspiration of using the Starship rocket to facilitate human landings on Mars. The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded the Starship in September due to the April incident. The FAA's decision followed the conclusion of an investigation into the explosion, which identified numerous potential contributing factors and prompted the agency to stipulate 63 corrective actions to prevent similar incidents. A Reuters report suggested that the FAA might expedite a launch license for the Starship, possibly as early as October, pending successful resolution of the identified issues. SpaceX maintains that it has effectively addressed all concerns outlined by the FAA. Also watch | Musk's Twitter takeover: Will Elon Musk testify in Twitter probe? The company has yet to secure the necessary launch license from the federal regulator. In addition to regulatory hurdles, SpaceX must obtain further environmental approvals for its future launches. SpaceX refused govt request to activate Starlink to sink Russian fleet: Elon Musk

<p>On a seemingly ordinary Monday (September 4) afternoon, tech mogul Elon Musk, known for his controversial Twitter presence, made a surprising statement on his verified Twitter account. Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, declared his stance against antisemitism, sparking a Twitter storm and subsequent clash with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).</p>

<p>The move brought to light several issues, including allegations of false accusations and a significant decline in advertising revenue for X, which Musk attributed to the ADL's influence.</p>

<h2><strong>Musk's allegations and threats</strong></h2>

<p>Elon Musk's Twitter posts expressed his concern over antisemitism and free speech. He accused the ADL of attempting to undermine his social media platform by falsely labelling it and himself as antisemitic. Musk even hinted at a potential defamation lawsuit against the ADL, threatening to force them to drop the "anti" part of their name if they lost the suit. This provocative move left many wondering about the implications and possible legal actions.</p>

<h2><strong>ADL's response and policy</strong></h2>

<p>In response to Musk's accusations, the ADL refrained from commenting on the legal threats, citing their policy. They referred media inquiries to a general statement addressing a recent #BanTheADL campaign on the platform, which Musk had engaged with. This stance signalled their intent to remain focused on their mission of combating hate in all forms and safeguarding marginalised groups.</p>

<h2><strong>Advertising revenue woes</strong></h2>

<p>Musk also claimed that X's advertising revenue had plummeted by 60 per cent&nbsp;in the US.&nbsp; He attributed this sharp decline to pressure from the ADL, alleging that advertisers were influenced by the organisation's actions. This assertion raised questions about the power of advocacy groups over social media platforms and their revenue streams.</p>

<h2><strong>Previous controversies and legal battles</strong></h2>

<p>This clash between Musk and the ADL isn't the first controversy surrounding X. In the past, advertisers expressed concerns about potential changes Musk might make to the platform, leading to a pullback in advertising. Musk himself blamed "activist groups" for trying to suppress free speech on the platform. Additionally, X recently filed a lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), accusing them of orchestrating a campaign to drive advertisers away from the platform. This lawsuit added another layer to Musk's legal battles and drew criticism from CCDH.</p>

<p>The ADL had previously published a report accusing X of failing to take action against hate speech. Their research indicated that a mere 28 per cent of posts flagged for antisemitic content received sanctions or removal. This critique highlighted concerns about X's commitment to combating hate speech and its effectiveness in content moderation.</p>

<p>A study from Montclair State University revealed a concerning increase in hate speech on X shortly after Musk assumed ownership. The platform witnessed a surge in offensive content targeting individuals based on race and other protected classes, suggesting a shift in the acceptability of such content under Musk's leadership. Moreover, X faced backlash for seemingly reversing its policy aimed at protecting transgender individuals on the platform, earning it the title of "the most dangerous platform for LGBTQ people", according to GLAAD's Social Media Safety Index.</p>

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has clapped back at Elon Musk and X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk announced in the early hours of Sunday that the "Musk vs Zuck" fight will be live-streamed on the rebranded platform.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has clapped back at Elon Musk and X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk announced in the early hours of Sunday that the "Musk vs Zuck" fight will be live-streamed on the rebranded platform. “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” Zuckerberg replied to Musk on Threads. Zuckerberg may have been referring to the dodgy quality of live streams on X, which even Musk has mentioned needs upgrading. Last week, Musk did a 53-second impromptu live to see if there had been improvements in the live streaming since he first raised the issue. Regarding the fight, the Meta boss said he was prepared to enter the ring any day, but Musk had not agreed to the dates up until now. “I’m read today,” Zuckerberg said on Threads. “I suggested Aug 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn’t confirmed. Not holding my breath.” He continued, “I love this sport and will continue competing with people who train no matter what happens here.” Post by @zuck View on Threads × Also read | It's on: Elon Musk shares details of fight with Zuckerberg, to be live streamed on X Notably, Musk dispelled speculations about the fight being cancelled when he said it will be live-streamed and all proceeds will go to the charity. “Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X. Zuckerberg claps back at Musk, says he's 'ready to fight today'

A news report by media outlet Semafor suggests Elon Musk’s proposed super app X, is looking for a financial-data giant to build a trading hub inside the app. Citing documents and people familiar with the matter, the media report suggests, x sent a request to financial-data providers in recent weeks asking for proposals on financial content and real-time stock data, among others.

The legal battle continues between most social media platforms and the Indian government social media joint, X formerly known as Twitter has now decided to challenge India's ruling in the content blocking case.

X, formerly Twitter, sought to overturn Indian govt orders in July 2022

The social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, has in fact reinstated rapper Ye's account after an eight-month suspension.

<p>Twitter is now the ex-name&nbsp;of the social media platform which is now 'X'. This may&nbsp;sound a mouthful but Elon Musk-led biggest microblogging platform in the world has undergone a complete transformation in a step towards what the eccentric billionaire calls a 'super app'. A lot is probably&nbsp;yet to happen, but Twitter's official Twitter handle showed the logo of 'X' on July 24 and this created a major buzz worldwide. Shortly before that, Musk had hinted that the iconic blue-bird logo would be dropped soon.</p>

<p>This may just be the end of an era and the start of a new one at Twitter. But rebranding Twitter as 'X' is definitely not the only reason Twitter under Musk has made global news.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Let's take a look at how some controversies at Twitter after Musk's takeover have shaken the tech world and more.</p>

<h2><strong>The sackfest</strong></h2>

<p>Soon after taking over Twitter, Musk hinted that the company would do some major cost-cutting. It was clear that the jobs of those working at Twitter were not secure but just to what extent Musk would rock the boat was unclear, at least in the initial period.</p>

<p>Then the axe fell!</p>

<p>By the end of May 2023, the headcount at Twitter fell by over 80 per cent.</p>

<p>“There were a lot of people that didn't seem to have a lot of value. I think that's true at many Silicon Valley companies. I think there is the possibility for significant cuts at other companies without affecting their productivity, in fact increasing their productivity," Musk told Wall Street Journal in a virtual interaction.&nbsp;</p>

The many controversies surrounding Twitter since Elon Musk took over

Elon Musk is continuing his fascination with the letter X. As he announces a dramatic rebranding of social media giant Twitter. Twitter owner Elon Musk plans to do away with the iconic brand logo.

What is Elon Musk's obsession with the letter 'X' as he reveals a new name for Twitter?

Tesla, the electric-vehicle maker led by billionaire Elon Musk, is facing a major market setback after its shares plummeted nearly 10%. Tesla's quarterly automotive gross margins slid, wiping out nearly $90 billion from its market value.

Tesla's pricing strategy backfires?

<p>A little more than ten days after its launch, Meta-owned Threads is now facing its first major hurdle. Instagram head&nbsp;Adam Mosseri on Monday announced that the platform was implementing rate limits on Threads, akin to the one imposed by Twitter earlier this month. The announcement, however, provided the ammo to Twitter boss Elon Musk, who took the opportunity and poked fun at the newly-launched platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Spam attacks have picked up so we're going to have to get tighter on things like rate limits, which is going to mean more unintentionally limiting active people ( false positives). If you get caught up those protections let us know," Mosseri wrote.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The announcement went viral, allowing Twitter boss Elon Musk to take a shot once again at the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company. Responding to a screenshot of Mosseri's statement, Musk tweeted "Lmaooo" and “Copy” with a cat emoji, insinuating that Threads was a copycat platform of Twitter.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Twitter imposed rate limit first</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, the announcement by Threads comes weeks after Musk made a similar announcement&nbsp;regarding the implementation of rate limits on its platform. At the time, Musk said the decision was taken to stop data scraping activities by emerging AI startups that were using Twitter to train their models.</p>

<p>Initially, the rate limit was set at&nbsp;6,000 for paying users and 600 for non-paying users.&nbsp; However, the limit has since been increased, with the platform also&nbsp;removing&nbsp;the requirement of logging in to view the tweets.</p>

<h2><strong>Musk vs Zuckerberg&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Musk and Zuckerberg have been at each other's throats ever since the former proposed the idea of a cage fight. The rivalry has only intensified after Meta launched Threads, forcing&nbsp;Musk and his team to issue a legal threat to Zuckerberg.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a letter addressed to the Meta boss, Twitter's lawyer Alex Spiro warned that the company intends to sue Meta if it does not cease using Twitter's trade secrets and confidential information, reports Reuters.</p>

<p>The letter alleged that Meta has hired former Twitter employees who possess confidential information about the microblogging site.&nbsp;"Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information," Spiro wrote in the letter.</p>

<p>Threads, dubbed a Twitter killer by a significant portion of the internet community, had an impressive opening but since then, the platform has seen its popularity take a dip. As per data, both active users and time spent on the app - two major metrics to gauge a platform's popularity, were down significantly.&nbsp;</p>

A little more than ten days after its launch, Meta-owned Threads is now facing its first major hurdle. Instagram head Adam Mosseri on Monday announced that the platform was implementing rate limits on Threads, akin to the one imposed by Twitter earlier this month. The announcement, however, provided the ammo to Twitter boss Elon Musk, who took the opportunity and poked fun at the newly-launched platform. "Spam attacks have picked up so we're going to have to get tighter on things like rate limits, which is going to mean more unintentionally limiting active people ( false positives). If you get caught up those protections let us know," Mosseri wrote. The announcement went viral, allowing Twitter boss Elon Musk to take a shot once again at the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company. Responding to a screenshot of Mosseri's statement, Musk tweeted "Lmaooo" and “Copy” with a cat emoji, insinuating that Threads was a copycat platform of Twitter. Lmaooo Copy 🐈 — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 17, 2023 × Twitter imposed rate limit first Notably, the announcement by Threads comes weeks after Musk made a similar announcement regarding the implementation of rate limits on its platform. At the time, Musk said the decision was taken to stop data scraping activities by emerging AI startups that were using Twitter to train their models. Initially, the rate limit was set at 6,000 for paying users and 600 for non-paying users. However, the limit has since been increased, with the platform also removing the requirement of logging in to view the tweets. WATCH | Elon Musk merges Twitter with X Corp × Musk vs Zuckerberg Musk and Zuckerberg have been at each other's throats ever since the former proposed the idea of a cage fight. The rivalry has only intensified after Meta launched Threads, forcing Musk and his team to issue a legal threat to Zuckerberg. In a letter addressed to the Meta boss, Twitter's lawyer Alex Spiro warned that the company intends to sue Meta if it does not cease using Twitter's trade secrets and confidential information, reports Reuters. The letter alleged that Meta has hired former Twitter employees who possess confidential information about the microblogging site. "Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information," Spiro wrote in the letter.
