The tourism department has appointed Blue Waste Value Company to separate degradable and non-degradable waste.

"There are oxygen cylinders, tin cans, plastic bags and other plastic material as well as human waste," Ghimire said.

"An army helicopter will go there today and will lift more garbage. Earlier, we had collected 3,000 kg out of which around 1,000 kg was handed over to Blue Waste Value Company," he added.

Climbers making their way to Mount Everest have left trash over the years and converted the Himalayan peak and the slopes leading to it into the "world`s highest dumping ground".

In 2014, the Nepalese government introduced a rule, making it mandatory for every climber to bring back at least eight kg of waste.

It was based on an estimate that a climber would leave the same amount of waste while ascending to the peak.

"The initial estimate of (Nepali) Rs 23 million for the clean-up operation does not seem enough now because many people are deployed and the cost will be higher," Ghimire said.

Climbing media named the men as American Jess Roskelley, 36, and Austrians David Lama, 28, and Hansjörg Auer, 35, saying they were killed after attempting to climb a challenging route on Howse Peak in Banff National Park.

Canadian authorities did not release the names of the three men but said they were one American and two Europeans and described them as highly experienced professional mountain athletes.&nbsp;

Roskelley was best-known for climbing Mount Everest at age 20 in 2003, making him the youngest person at the time to have climbed the world`s highest mountain.

Lama and Auer were also world-class mountaineers who had climbed some of the toughest routes around the globe.

Parks Canada said in a statement the party was attempting the east face of Howse Peak.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Rudra Bahadur Shrestha, who was injured in the incident and airlifted to Kathmandu, died while undergoing treatment at Grande Hospital, the paper said, citing hospital sources.

Captain RB Rokaya who was flying the aircraft and Captain Chet Gurung of Manang Air, who was in the helicopter, were injured in the incident.&nbsp;

They are receiving treatment at Grande Hospital and are said to be out of danger, it said.&nbsp;

Nepal to send team to clean Mount Everest

Nepal on Wednesday deployed a team to find out the height of the world`s highest peak, Mount Everest.

This comes after speculations regarding shrinking of Mount Everest`s height started floating after Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake measuring 7.9 Richter scale in April 2015.

A group of four officials from the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation set off for the peak after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli bid them farewell, the Prime Minister`s Secretariat said in a statement.

"It will be the first time that Nepal is measuring the height of Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest). You all please bring the measurement on centimetres also. The measurement conducted by you will be the only official height of the Mount Everest," the Secretariat quoted Prime Minister Oli as saying.

The team comprises of Chief Survey Officer Khim Lal Gautam and Survey Officer Rabin Karki, Suraj Singh Bhandari and Amin Yubraj Dhital.

Amongst them, Chief Survey Officer Gautama and Survey Officer Bhandari will make it to the top of the Everest whereas the two other officials will remain at the base camp assisting the surveyors and monitor activities at an altitude of 5,364 meters.

The team is expected to return to Kathmandu within a month while the report is expected to be announced by end of this year.

The survey will be conducted according to different categories, including Precise Levelling, Trigonometric Levelling, Gravity Survey and GNSS survey which covers 285 points with 12 different observation stations.

The first kind of survey would help in finding the height from the Southern Plains of Nepal to the selected control points; the second is performed from selected control points, the point of precise levelling.

The Gravity Survey will define the local surface that corresponds to sea level and its imagined extension under (or over) land areas and the fourth survey determines the location of gravity points benchmarks as well as the top of Everest.

A group of four officials from the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation set off for the peak after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli bid them farewell, the Prime Minister`s Secretariat said in a statement. "It will be the first time that Nepal is measuring the height of Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest). You all please bring the measurement on centimetres also. The measurement conducted by you will be the only official height of the Mount Everest," the Secretariat quoted Prime Minister Oli as saying. The team comprises of Chief Survey Officer Khim Lal Gautam and Survey Officer Rabin Karki, Suraj Singh Bhandari and Amin Yubraj Dhital. Amongst them, Chief Survey Officer Gautama and Survey Officer Bhandari will make it to the top of the Everest whereas the two other officials will remain at the base camp assisting the surveyors and monitor activities at an altitude of 5,364 meters. The team is expected to return to Kathmandu within a month while the report is expected to be announced by end of this year. The survey will be conducted according to different categories, including Precise Levelling, Trigonometric Levelling, Gravity Survey and GNSS survey which covers 285 points with 12 different observation stations. The first kind of survey would help in finding the height from the Southern Plains of Nepal to the selected control points; the second is performed from selected control points, the point of precise levelling. The Gravity Survey will define the local surface that corresponds to sea level and its imagined extension under (or over) land areas and the fourth survey determines the location of gravity points benchmarks as well as the top of Everest. The centuries-old belief regarding the height of Mount Everest measuring 8,842 meters will be verified at earliest of 2020.

Sinha has climbed five peaks including Mt Everest, Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Ebrus, Mt Kosciuszko and Mt Aconcagua.

China has retrieved 8.5 tonnes of waste from Mount Everest since April as it clears garbage left by growing numbers of visitors, the state-run Global Times said on Thursday.

Enthusiasts from all over the world who flock to the world's tallest mountain, at a height of 8,850 metres (29,035 ft) between Tibet and Nepal, discard tonnes of trash each year.

A team of 30 people has cleared about 5.2 tonnes of household waste, 2.3 tonnes of human faeces, and one tonne of mountaineering trash in the cleanup by Tibetan mountaineering officials, the paper said.

The brave men of India's Border Security Force achieved another feat last week when their two teams scaled Mount Everest. One of the teams was led by Assistant Commandant Loveraj Singh Dharamshaktu which scaled the Everest first with seven members and the other by young Himachali Deputy Commandant Avinash Negi which followed the first team and climbed the world's tallest peak (8848 metres) from Southwest face.

Loveraj conquered the highest peak for a record seventh time and he says, it's the love for the mountains that takes him to the Everest. Deputy Commandant Avinash Negi said "the best view comes after hardest climb".

The BSF expedition was flagged-off by Union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on March 20 the teams successfully scaled the peak on May 20 and 21.

The team took an initiative to clean the mountains under PM Modi's Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission. Before Everest, the team climbed the Lobuche peak (6200 metres) in Nepal to collect non-bio degradable waste from higher camps and collected more than 700 kg of trash. The leftover trash by trekkers and mountaineers on glaciers is one of the major reasons for rapid melting of glaciers. Prime Minister Modi applauded BSF team climbers in "Mann Ki Baat" for their effort to clean the mountains. Apart from this, the team set up the world's highest medical camp for the poor and needy Sherpas, an ethnic group in the mountainous regions of Nepal and expert climbers.

The conditions were extreme, the velocity of winds were high up to 50 miles per hour and the temperature was oscillating between minus 45 and 50 degrees. But the sense of accomplishment kept the team motivated and strong. After scaling Mount Everest Deputy Commandant Avinash Negi took to social media and wrote a few lines on Facebook. "If you get tears in your eyes, it will freeze on your cheeks before it rolls down and as you reach close to the peak you feel very tiny in front of the nature, one mistake and that will take you to another world.

'Your tears will freeze': BSF team recalls scaling the Everest for record seventh time

An experienced sherpa guide has died after falling into a crevasse on Everest, officials said today, the fourth confirmed fatality of the spring climbing season on the world's highest mountain.

Damai Sarki Sherpa, 37, was helping a foreign climber to a rescue helicopter at Everest's Camp Two when he slipped and fell more than 60 metres.

He was pulled out alive but suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted from the 6,474-metre location last evening.

Poor visibility forced the helicopter to land in Namche Bazaar, a town in the Everest region that lacks proper medical facilities, where the guide died overnight.

"He was rescued but had a very bad head injury. He died last night," Gyanendra Shrestha, a government official at Everest base camp, told AFP.

Sherpa was an experienced climber and an internationally certified mountaineering guide -- one of just 58 Nepalis to hold the prestigious qualification.

His death is the fourth on the 8,848-metre mountain this month. Hundreds of climbers arrive each spring when lower winds and warmer temperatures open the route to the top of the world.

Around 400 people have reached Everest's summit so far this year, climbing from both the southern side in Nepal and the north in Tibet. Born in a small town Hisar, Haryana, Shivangi climbed the Mt Everest with a moto that women could overcome every possible obstacle to achieve&nbsptheir goals.

While interacting with the media, Shivangi said that she inspired by Arunima Sinha, who was the first Indian amputee to scale the nearly 29,000 ft peak.

She also had said once that she wants to fulfill her childhood dream and also aims to conquer every mountain on this beautiful planet.

In 2014, 13-year-old Malavath Poorna from India had climbed Mt Everest from Tibet side and became the youngest girl in the world to the summit at Everest.

Meanwhile, two more mountaineers from India, Bhagwan Chawale and Prajit Pardesi have also successfully scaled tallest peak on the earth.

Shivangi Pathak becomes youngest woman to scale Mt Everest

A 48-year-old Nepali mountaineer climbed Mount Everest for a 22nd time on Wednesday, creating a new record for the most summits of the world’s highest mountain, hiking officials said.

Kami Rita Sherpa reached the 8,850-meter (29,035-foot) summit via the Southeast Ridge route, accompanied by 13 other climbers including his clients, Tourism Department official Gyanendra Shrestha said from the base camp.

His latest ascent took him one summit clear of two fellow sherpas with whom he had shared the earlier record.

“He has set the world record,” said Mingma Sherpa, chairman of the Seven Summit Treks company that employs Kami.

Kami had begun his descent and is expected to reach base camp by the weekend, Shrestha told Reuters.

The route taken on the ascent was pioneered by New Zealand’s Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay when they became the first climbers to reach the summit in 1953.

The climbing season for runs from March through May and hundreds of climbers are currently on Everest, trying to reach the top from both the Nepali and Tibetan sides of the mountain.

Ethnic sherpas, renowned for their endurance and experience at high altitudes, serve as guides for many foreign mountaineers attempting to climb the highest Himalayan peaks.

Specially-abled and solo climbers banned from climbing Everest

The body of legendary Swiss climber Ueli Steck, who died on Mount Everest, was cremated on Thursday at a Buddhist monastery that lies in the shadow of the world&#39;s highest peak.

Steck -- one of the most feted mountaineers of his generation - became the first fatality of this year&#39;s spring season on Everest when he fell from a ridge during an acclimatisation climb on Sunday.

The climber&#39;s body was flown by helicopter on Thursday to the Tengboche Monastery that lies on the trail to the peaks that claimed his life.

Steck&#39;s wife Nicole and close family members arrived with the body from Kathmandu for the Buddhist funeral ceremony, according to an AFP photographer at the scene. They had flown to Nepal earlier this week.

Steck&#39;s body was carried from the helipad to the cremation site a few hundred metres from the monastery, which is surrounded by sheer Himalayan peaks including Everest&#39;s towering 8,848 metre (29,030 feet) summit.

The family surrounded the funeral pyre as it was lit, and monks in flowing maroon ropes offered prayers and played music.

A number of climbers were expected to trek down from Everest base camp -- some 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Tengboche -- to attend the cremation, according to Nimesh Karki of Seven Summits, a trekking company that helped Steck organise his Everest attempt. It was unclear if any had arrived in time for the ceremony.

Steck was famed for his record speed ascents in the Alps, which earned him the nickname the &quot;Swiss Machine&quot; - an epithet that he himself disliked.

She had not been involved in any sport in her early years but made up for it rather well. &quot;The most difficult moment in my climbing experience was when I was climbing Mount Aconcagua in Chile. Although it is a simple climb, I suffered frostbites and had to stop. I could not reach the top,&quot; she says with an air of regret. Mount Aconcagua is 6,961 metres high, the highest mountain outside Asia. It takes nearly 10 days and 3,000 metres of ascent to reach the summit, often in extremely cold weather. Yes, it is as simple as that.

The mountain people of Nepal are known worldwide for their excellent climbing skills. Every year, they set up walking trails and guide thousands of trekkers and mountaineers from all over the world across the Himalayas. When the hiking season starts, men leave their houses for months at a stretch to become porters and guides. For many families, this is their only source of income. Traditionally, women wait in the villages and take care of livestock, crops and families. But then, not all traditions last for ever.

Basnet is no stray exception. Other Nepalese women are following her footsteps on treacherous surfaces. She happens to be the coordinator of The Seven Summits Women Team, a group of seven women from different backgrounds. They met after an all-female ascent of Mount Everest in 2008 and decided to band together. Their aim was to train more women in the country to fight gender discrimination by engaging in outdoor activities. Mountaineering became a tool of empowerment.

In 2009, they started travelling to climb the seven highest mountains of the world, from the Andes to Antarctica. More than ice, cold or altitude, expenses were their biggest enemy. The Nepalese government, several mountaineering bodies and companies stepped in and the magnificent seven set out to conquer the heights.

And, they succeeded. Less than 350 people in the world have achieved the feat, only 51 out of them women.

With the motto &lsquo;Together we reach higher&rsquo; firmly entrenched in their minds, they regularly visit schools to share their expertise. The team is actively working to get more women on the mountains. &quot;We are training a team of women in their early twenties. They are all survivors from human trafficking. The aim is to provide them with good skills and enough qualifications to find employment,&quot; Basnet tells WION.

Basnet laughs off the commonly-held belief that women are weaker than men. &quot;Let me tell you a story. One of us happened to be the lone woman in an expedition team. The men in the team said she ate more than a man and could carry more weight than one,&quot; says the climber. Incidentally, Nimdoma Sherpa, one of the members of The Seven Summits Women Team, climbed Mount Everest when she was 17 years old.

Basnet faced a lot of hurdles when she started out. People around her were apprehensive when she decided to become a professional mountaineer. Mountaineering in Nepal is roughly a century old. It began with westerners hiring local people for their expeditions. Back then, it was more common for men to get out of their houses and earn a living. &quot;I think that the concern comes mainly because people are not used to seeing young women acting as mountaineering guides,&quot; she believes.

Himalayan women are just as hardy as their male counterparts. Equally used to high altitude, they are physically strong and used to hard labour. They carry loads up and down from the mountains all year long, firewood, hay for animals and basic supplies.

Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita is one such woman. She grew up in the Nepalese town of Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest. In a conversation with National Geographic, the 31-year-old climber reminisces about her childhood when she would see groups of foreigners walking uphill and slowly disappearing towards the snow-capped peaks. Her parents died when she was 15 years old and she had a younger sister to feed. So, she decided to become a professional mountaineer. She trained successfully at the Khumbu Climbing Centre to become Nepal&rsquo;s first woman mountaineering instructor.

&quot;When I said I wanted to climb mountains, many people discouraged me, saying that it was the role of men to climb mountains to earn a living for the family,&quot; said Pasang to National Geographic. Akita proved them wrong.

In 2014, she succeeded in summiting the 8,611-metre-high K2 (Mount Godwin Austin), the second highest mountain in the world. K2 is considered one of the most difficult ascents. The weather is often so bad that it is impossible to see the top for the whole season. According to adventurestats.com, one climber out of four dies while trying to summit the peak. National Geographic honoured Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita with its 2016 People&rsquo;s Choice Adventurer of the Year award.

Work has been pouring in for Nepalese women mountaineering guides, business is picking up. According to Basnet, &quot;the number of women travellers is increasing. They usually feel more comfortable with women guides and so do families. We have also noticed that when it comes to group of young students, both their parents and their educational institutions feel more confident if there are women guiding them&quot;.

However, Nepal, as on date, has only one certified female instructor and only two more are training for their certification.

Convincing families and communities to allow women to train regularly and become professional mountaineers is still a challenge. Traditions take time to change. The way is still long and the climb is steep.

We have also noticed that when it comes to group of young students, both their parents and their educational institutions feel more confident if there are women guiding them". However, Nepal, as on date, has only one certified female instructor and only two more are training for their certification. Convincing families and communities to allow women to train regularly and become professional mountaineers is still a challenge. Traditions take time to change. Celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, the Survey of India announced plans to remeasure the world&rsquo;s highest peak, Mount Everest, at the recently-concluded Geospatial World Forum 2017. The height of Mount Everest, which was named after former Surveyor General of India George Everest, will be re-determined using modern and conventional surveying techniques.

WION spoke to Swarna Subba Rao, Surveyor General, Survey of India, to ascertain why such a decision was taken and how this activity would be conducted.

Explaining the reason in detail, Rao said, &ldquo;Mount Everest was first measured by Survey of India. And after the measurement, the computation was done under the leadership of Sir George Everest. In fact, George Everest got the knighthood probably because of this achievement. After that, we came out with the height of 29028 ft (8848 m), which was declared in the year 1855. But later, a lot many people observed and came out with different heights. Even Survey of India measured it once again, but we came up with the same height.&rdquo;

As Rao pointed out, scientific communities, for years, had been divided on matters dealing with the height of Mount Everest, and as a result of which, the Survey of India had measured the height of Mount Everest once again.

When asked Rao what prompted the national mapping agency of India to remeasure Mount Everest again, he cited the major earthquake in Nepal two years ago, as a reason for the action as it led to doubts over the height of Mount Everest in the scientific community.

&ldquo;A couple of years ago, there was an earthquake in Nepal, which is also called the Gorkha earthquake. During the earthquake, it was suspected that Mount Everest had lost its position. It might have come down slightly,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t know the height. Some kinds of opinions are expressed in the scientific communities.&rdquo; So the idea is to verify the doubts that have been expressed in the scientific communities after the earthquake and to know whether Mount Everest is still intact.

Mount Everest will be remeasured using a mix of modern and traditional scientific techniques. The Survey of India will do it using three methods simultaneously on the same day.

&ldquo;One is using the GPS receiver and another&nbsp;is by the triangulation method, which will observe the height of the Everest from two to three places from where it is visible. And also, we are making some gravity measurements, which will also confirm the height in an indirect way,&rdquo; elaborated Rao.

The decision to remeasure Mount Everest seems to be a smart move as the precise height of Mount Everest has become a matter of interest for surveyors and geographers all over the world.

Why Mount Everest is being remeasured, explains Surveyor General of India

As a 13-year-old, he was diagnosed with&nbsp;Hodgkin&rsquo;s disease - a severe blood cancer. Being in the fourth and final stage, doctors declared that he will not live for more than ninety days. However, he fought and survived. At 16, another&nbsp;golf ball-sized cancerous tumor was discovered in his lung. After removal of the Askin&rsquo;s tumor, Sean Swarner was expected to live for only fourteen days. But he survived again to astonish the medical world.

A decade later and with only one fully functioning lung, Sean became&nbsp;the first cancer survivor to climb Mount Everest, proving to others that nothing is impossible when your&nbsp;determination is rock solid. The journey didn&#39;t end there; he completed the Ironman Championship and made it to the top of the Seven Summits, the highest peaks of the seven continents. He is also an author of two inspirational novels and the founder of CancerClimber Association, a non-profit organization for cancer survivors.

Kazimi: What was your state of mind when you were first&nbsp;detected with cancer?

Sean:&nbsp;Since I was only a 13-year-old, I didn&rsquo;t fully understand how devastating it would be to my life. Being so young, I don&rsquo;t think I had a full grasp on the concept of life versus death, but I knew I was sick and that if I lost the will and hope to live, I wouldn&rsquo;t survive.

Kazimi: How did you deal with it the second time?

Sean:&nbsp;I knew what I was getting into much better than before because I had been through a year of hell with the chemotherapy, treatments, bloating, loss of hair&nbsp;and everything else that I&rsquo;d never wish for my worst enemy. I was more scared the second time because I understood what was about to happen &ndash; my life was going to be put on hold until I was better again.

I went through the first one, and I sure didn&rsquo;t want to go through another! I mentally told myself either to fight for my life or give up and die.

Kazimi: What were some thoughts occupying your mind?

Sean:&nbsp;It was difficult in the beginning, I kept asking myself &ldquo;why me?&rdquo; Eventually, I realized that it WAS ME and I cannot change the fact that I had cancer,&nbsp;but I could change my thoughts about cancer. In the process of self-healing, I used to picture&nbsp;myself killing&nbsp;cancer in my veins.

<h3 dir="ltr">Kazimi: So&nbsp;you believe&nbsp;the human mind has the power to heal?</h3>

&nbsp;

Sean:&nbsp;The power of the&nbsp;human mind is often underestimated.&nbsp;It can heal on many levels, including emotional, physical and psychological.&nbsp;You always have the freedom to&nbsp;choose how you want to perceive the world. No one can make you feel in a certain manner or force their thoughts upon you unless you want to. You always have a choice. It boils down to perspective &ndash; instead of seeing a challenge as a challenge, see it from a different angle and look at it as an&nbsp;opportunity.

Kazimi: How would you define hope?

Sean:&nbsp;I believe it&rsquo;s more than words could ever describe. It&rsquo;s the feeling we get when we expect&nbsp;a certain outcome&nbsp;and sense an unsaid but unwavering assurance for it to happen. To quote Emily Dickinson, &ldquo;Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul&nbsp;and sings the tune without words, and never stops at all.&rdquo;

Kazimi: When did you decide to do the Seven Summits?

Sean:&nbsp;I could see the impact my first expedition had made, and I didn&#39;t want to stop there.&nbsp;After coming home from Everest, I figured that the rest of those mountains on every other continent couldn&rsquo;t be harder than Everest, so I went for it.

Kazimi: What was the scariest moment?

Sean:&nbsp;I&#39;ve had a number of them and going through cancer definitely is one. Another would be when&nbsp;I was climbing Mt. Denali&nbsp;and&nbsp;fell from a height of 100 feet. I was roped&nbsp;to my climbing partner when I slid 50 feet below him, then another 50 feet below, rocketing down a glacier on the highest mountain in North America.

Kazimi: What impact have you been able to&nbsp;make with your organization?

Sean:&nbsp;We raise funds for cancer survivors who are interested in adventure sports and take them to&nbsp;Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa. These survivors reach out to their own communities and share their survivorship story to inspire others to climb their own proverbial mountains to make more out of their lives.

Kazimi: What is the overall message?

Sean:&nbsp;Even though I speak about different causes in different places, the underlying message is all about &ldquo;Redefining Your Impossible&rdquo; and living a life that matters.

Kazimi: Please share a memory&nbsp;when your story&nbsp;impacted others

Sean:&nbsp;At a conference after my presentation,&nbsp;I was addressing the audience. I could tell that the next woman in the queue&nbsp;had been crying because her mascara was running down her face and her nose was red. She came up to me, hugged me, buried her face in my chest and started sobbing. I hugged her back and held her until she was ready to talk. She told me that in the past 6 months, she lost her husband and son to cancer and now she&nbsp;herself, had been diagnosed with the disease for the third time. She had planned on committing suicide and&nbsp;had a suicide note written in her hotel room. She said that my talk changed her mind and that I saved her life. It made me believe that I could make a difference.

Kazimi: Out of all your milestones, which one do you consider your highest?

Sean:&nbsp;I feel the highest milestone&nbsp;is yet to come,&nbsp;maybe it will be when I get married and have a family.

Kazimi: Any words for those going through a hard time in life?

Sean:&nbsp;&ldquo;This too shall pass,&rdquo; because it does. Embrace the positive, enjoy everything you can when life is good&nbsp;and know the bad times are going to pass. People get big muscles by pushing against massive weight. In the same way, people build their mental character and strength by pushing through the tough times.
