<p>A government official said that all six on board, including five Mexican nationals, died in a helicopter crash in Nepal on Tuesday (July 11). A Kathmandu airport official told news agency Reuters that rescuers have located five bodies and are looking for the sixth one.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Kathmandu Times reported that the Manang Air helicopter, that lost contact, crashed at Lamjura of Likhupike Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu district, the area that lies between Jiri and Phaplu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The identity of six people is not known yet, but as per the local media outlet, Raju Neupane, who is the operation and safety manager of Manang Air, identified the pilot as Captain Chet Bahadur Gurung.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Neupane said that an Altitude Air chopper along with security officials has reached the incident site. It was mobilised in the area of Lamjura Pass for the search and rescue of the missing chopper.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Information Officer Gyanendra Bhul provided further details as he said that the chopper was en route to Kathmandu from Solukhumbu and got disconnected from the control tower at around 10:00am (local time) in the morning.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To make sense of how big these mountains are, Mount Everest is around 5.5 miles high (8.8 kilometres) from the surface, while the underground mountains are said to be over 24 miles (38 kilometres) in height.</p>

<p>“Analysing 1000’s of seismic recordings from Antarctica, our high-definition imaging method found thin anomalous zones of material at the CMB [core-mantle boundary] everywhere we probed,” Arizona State University geophysicist Edward Garnero said in a statement.</p>

<p>“The material’s thickness varies from a few kilometres to 10’s of kilometres. This suggests we are seeing mountains on the core, in some places up to 5 times taller than Mt. Everest.”</p>

<p>One possible explanation given by the scientists is that these ancient formations were created when oceanic crusts were forced into Earth’s interior.</p>

<p>They argue that it might have begun with tectonic plates slipping down into the Earth's mantle&nbsp;and sinking to the core-mantle boundary.</p>

<p>These then slowly spread out to form an assortment of structures, leaving a trail of both mountains and blobs. This would mean both are made from ancient oceanic crust: a combination of basalt rock and sediments from the ocean floor, albeit transformed by intense heat and pressure.</p>

<p>A Malaysian climber nearly escaped death after a Nepali sherpa guide carried&nbsp;him down from Mount Everest's peak in a "very rare" high-altitude rescue, according to a government official who spoke to Reuters.</p>

<p>Gelje Sherpa, 30, was guiding a Chinese client to the summit of Everest on May 18 when he noticed a Malaysian climber clinging to a rope and shivering from extreme cold in the "death zone" where temperatures can plummet&nbsp;to minus 30 degree&nbsp;Celsius (86F) or even lower.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gelje hauled the climber 600 metres (1,900 feet) down from the Balcony area to the South Col, for over six hours, where Nima Tahi Sherpa, another guide, joined the rescue operation.</p>

<p>“We wrapped the climber in a sleeping mat, dragged him on the snow or carried him in turns on our backs to camp III,” Gelje told Reuters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They were then lifted with the help of a helicopter&nbsp;from the 7,162-metre (23,500 feet) high Camp III down to base camp.</p>

<p>“It is almost impossible to rescue climbers at that altitude,” Department of Tourism official Bigyan Koirala told Reuters.</p>

<p>“It is a very rare operation,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gelje said he requested&nbsp;his Chinese client to give up his summit attempt and walk down&nbsp;the mountain, saying it was crucial&nbsp;for him to rescue the climber.</p>

<p>“Saving one life is more important than praying at the monastery,” said Gelje.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tashi Lakhpa Sherpa of the Seven Summit Treks company, which helped&nbsp;the Malaysian climber logistically&nbsp;refused&nbsp;o name him, citing privacy concerns.&nbsp;The climber was put on a flight to Malaysia last week.</p>

<p>Nepal issued a record 478 permits for Everest during this year’s March to May climbing season.</p>

<h2><strong>Why are so many people dying on the Everest? Is climate change the reason?</strong></h2>

<p>As per experts, this is one of the deadliest years on record on Mount Everest, with variable weather caused by climate change blamed for&nbsp;the deaths of up to 17 people.</p>

<p>A total of 12 people have now been confirmed dead during Everest expeditions this season and another five are missing, according to the Himalayan Database, which keeps track of mountain fatalities.</p>

<p>The current Everest base sits at an altitude of 5,364 metres. The authorities wanted to move the base 200 to 400 metres lower down the world’s highest mountain. However, Sherpa leaders say that&nbsp;the plan is not only impractical, but the authorities haven't been able to find a viable alternative as well.&nbsp;Mingma Sherpa, chair of Khumbu Pasanglhamu, was quoted by BBC as saying, "I have come across not even a single person in our community who supports the idea of moving the Everest base camp."</p>

<p>He further added, “It has been there for the past 70 years, why should they move it now? And even if they wanted to, where is the study on a viable alternative?"</p>

<p>According to officials from Nepal’s Tourism Ministry and Nepal Mountaineering Association, more than 95 per cent of attendees rejected the idea of relocating the Everest base camp in a recent consultation meeting held between the authorities and the mountaineering industry.</p>

<p>Thanks to climate change, the Khumbu glacier is rapidly melting, making the site dangerous for climbers. Several studies have shown that lakes and ponds on the glacier are also expanding, further exacerbating the logistical woes of the mountaineers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Experts are of the opinion that the current base might see more avalanches, storms, ice and rockfalls in the future, so shifting the base would make more sense.</p>

<p>Despite disagreements over the idea of relocating the base, almost everyone agrees that the base is getting overcrowded. This season, the Nepalese authorities issued a record number of 478 Everest climbing permits.</p>

<p>It means that more than 1,500 people would be using the base, including the support staff. According to Dambar Parajuli, president of Expedition Operators' Association Nepal, the size of the base camp has doubled over the past few years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He also added that there were no strict guidelines regarding what was allowed at the base camp and what was not, as the area was getting occupied by unnecessary luxury services, such as massage parlours.</p>

<p>Bigyan Koirala, an official with Nepal's Department of Tourism, confirmed that Magar had climbed the mountain with five Sherpa guides and that his ascent is “a world record”.</p>

<p>Magar, who joined the British army in 1999, lost both his legs after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) during a patrol duty in Afghanistan in 2010.</p>

<p>He said he had “suffered a lot” because of his disability and did not want other people to face the same pains.</p>

<p>“I hope my climb will help change the perception of persons with disabilities,” Magar told Reuters from the base camp by phone.</p>

<p>“I would like to encourage all people to take to climbing any mountain of their choice,” he said.</p>

<p>Magar went via the Southeast Ridge route, pioneered by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953, which remains the most popular among climbers.</p>

<p>Mount&nbsp;Everest&nbsp;has been climbed by more than 11,000 people, including those with disabilities – like blindness and below the knee amputees.</p>

<p>Nepal has issued 478 permits to climb&nbsp;Everest&nbsp;during the current season that ends this month. Nine people have died on&nbsp;Everest&nbsp;this year.</p>

Ex-British double amputee Gurkha hopes Everest climb will change disability perceptions

An ex-soldier creates history by climbing Mount Everest. This soldier is the first double above-the-knee amputee to climb Mount Everest. His name is Hari Budha Magar and this is his story of exemplary determination. Molly Gambhir reports.

<p>An expedition organiser said on Sunday (May 21) that an Australian climber has died on Everest. This is the tenth&nbsp;fatality on the world's highest peak during this climbing season.</p>

<p>Jason Bernard Kennison (40) reportedly survived a bad car crash in 2006. Asian Trekking said that he died after becoming unwell on&nbsp;Friday.</p>

<p>Asian Trekking chief Dawa Steven Sherpa told news agency AFP that Kennison was "unresponsive" at the summit. He was then brought down to balcony area below the peak.</p>

<p>"Since the oxygen cylinders that they had with them were running out, they decided to descend to Camp 4 hoping to climb back again with oxygen cylinders to rescue him," Sherpa said.</p>

<p>"It was high wind and bad weather that prevented them (from) going back to bring him down. He died at the Balcony area."</p>

<p>The Himalayan Times reported that strong winds and bad weather prevented the Sherpas from returning.</p>

<p>Four Sherpas have lost their lives on Everest this year's climbing season. Kennison's death is sixth among non-Nepalis.</p>

<p>Five climbers die every spring climbing seas on Mount Everest. In 2019 however, 11 people died. Four of the deaths were blamed on overcrowding on the mountain.</p>

<p>According to reports in Australian media, Kennison spent years learning to walk again. The road accident had left him with multiple injuries. He received injuries even to his spinal cord.</p>

<h2><strong>High aims</strong></h2>

<p>On his Just Giving page on social media, he had written how the idea to climb the tallest mountain peak in the world came to him.</p>

<p>“Someone close to me convinced me that I was still capable of being able to do anything I wanted,” he wrote.</p>

<p>“In 2023 I will head to Nepal, to see and be on Mount Everest, a long way from once battling traumatic injuries and the low and dark days of depression. An ambitious feat that I would never have dreamed of, or thought was possible after once being told that I would not be able to walk."</p>

<p>“I am going to make the most of my life and part of that involves helping other people who have had their life changed in an instant through spinal cord injury. They shouldn’t be forgotten; they should be helped.”</p>

<p>According to Nepal's tourism department, nearly 450 climbers have already climbed Mount Everest this season. The tourism department has issued 478 permits to foreign climbers. In order to get one, each of them has to pay USD 11,000 fee.</p>

<p>Since most will need a guide, more than 900 people -- a record –- were expected to try to summit during the season, which runs until early June.</p>

Jason Bernard Kennison (40) reportedly survived a bad car crash in 2006. Asian Trekking said that he died after becoming unwell on Friday. Asian Trekking chief Dawa Steven Sherpa told news agency AFP that Kennison was "unresponsive" at the summit. He was then brought down to balcony area below the peak. "Since the oxygen cylinders that they had with them were running out, they decided to descend to Camp 4 hoping to climb back again with oxygen cylinders to rescue him," Sherpa said. "It was high wind and bad weather that prevented them (from) going back to bring him down. He died at the Balcony area." The Himalayan Times reported that strong winds and bad weather prevented the Sherpas from returning. Four Sherpas have lost their lives on Everest this year's climbing season. Kennison's death is sixth among non-Nepalis. Five climbers die every spring climbing seas on Mount Everest. In 2019 however, 11 people died. Four of the deaths were blamed on overcrowding on the mountain. According to reports in Australian media, Kennison spent years learning to walk again. The road accident had left him with multiple injuries. He received injuries even to his spinal cord. High aims On his Just Giving page on social media, he had written how the idea to climb the tallest mountain peak in the world came to him. “Someone close to me convinced me that I was still capable of being able to do anything I wanted,” he wrote. “In 2023 I will head to Nepal, to see and be on Mount Everest, a long way from once battling traumatic injuries and the low and dark days of depression. An ambitious feat that I would never have dreamed of, or thought was possible after once being told that I would not be able to walk." “I am going to make the most of my life and part of that involves helping other people who have had their life changed in an instant through spinal cord injury. They shouldn’t be forgotten; they should be helped.” According to Nepal's tourism department, nearly 450 climbers have already climbed Mount Everest this season. The tourism department has issued 478 permits to foreign climbers. In order to get one, each of them has to pay USD 11,000 fee. Since most will need a guide, more than 900 people -- a record –- were expected to try to summit during the season, which runs until early June. <p>An Indian-origin Singaporean man went missing after reaching the Mount Everest summit last month and the family is now requesting urgent help, as per reports.&nbsp;Shrinivas Sainis Dattatraya travelled to Nepal last month from Singapore to climb Mount Everest, the family said in a petition on the website change.org.</p>

<p>In the petition, his cousin Divya Bharath stated that Shrinivas appeared to have experienced altitude sickness and frostbite while travelling down. He may have become isolated from the rest of his group as a result of this and "fell at around 8,000 metres, probably onto the Tibetan side of the mountain," according to the report.</p>

<p>A team of Sherpas started searching for Shrinivas on Saturday morning, according to Bharath, who was quoted by a Singaporean news outlet on Saturday. He apparently last spoke to base camp staff at a height of about 8,500 metres. Bharath stated in the appeal that the family had contacted the relevant governments.</p>

<p>"This matter needs to be brought to their attention on an urgent basis. We need a special rescue team that is trained to operate in such risky terrain as well as to ensure that this whole rescue operation is not hindered by diplomatic paperwork," Channel News Asia quoted Bharath as saying.</p>

<p>She noted that although Shrivinas' family was upset, they were determined not to give up. On April 1, Shrinivas, a 39-year-old executive director at Jones Lang LaSalle, departed for Mount Everest. He was expected to return home on June 4.</p>

<h2><strong>Last spoke on Friday&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Shrinivas'&nbsp;wife Sushma Soma told The Straits Times that he last spoke with her on Friday at around 3:30 pm, informing her that he had reached the peak of Everest but was not expected to return.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a 46-year-old Moldovan climber died on the mountain the same day -- the fifth fatality of the season.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Authorities have issued 478 Everest permits to foreign climbers this year, the $11,000 fee part of total costs for a summit ranging from $45,000 to $200,000.</p>

<p>Since most will need a guide, more than 900 people -- a record -- will try to summit this season, which runs until early June.</p>

<p>The 53-year-old Kami Rita&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;had held the overall title since 2018, when he ascended Everest for the 22nd time, passing the previous mark he shared with two other&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;climbers, both of whom have since retired.</p>

<p>But on Sunday another climber, Pasang&nbsp;Dawa&nbsp;Sherpa, 46, tied the record by reaching the top for the 26th&nbsp;time.</p>

<p>A guide for more than two decades, Kami Rita&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;first summited in 1994 when working for a commercial expedition.</p>

<p>Since then, he has climbed Everest almost every year, several times leading the first rope-fixing team to open the route to the top.</p>

<p>"These records were made not with an intention to make them but during my work as a guide,"&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;told AFP last month as he headed to base camp.</p>

<h2><strong>'Everest man'</strong></h2>

<p>Dubbed "the Everest man",&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;was born in 1970 in Thame, a village in the Himalayas renowned as a breeding ground for successful mountaineers.</p>

<p>Growing up,&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;watched his father and then his brother don climbing gear to join expeditions as mountain&nbsp;guides, and&nbsp;was soon following in their footsteps.</p>

<p>In 2019, he reached the summit twice in the span of six days.</p>

<p>Sherpa's client Wednesday was reportedly Chinh Chu, a Vietnamese billionaire who made his fortune&nbsp;in&nbsp;finance, while Cool guided Richard Walker, executive chairman of British supermarket chain Iceland Foods, to the top.</p>

<p>Nepali guides, usually ethnic Sherpas from the valleys around Everest, are considered the backbone of the climbing industry and bear huge risks to carry equipment and food, fix ropes and repair ladders.</p>

<p>Cool, 49, first climbed Everest in 2004, and his 16th ascent last year gave him the sole record for the most summits by a non-Nepali climber, but he told AFP then that he was "surprised" by the attention.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In reality, it's not that amazing," he said, pointing out that many&nbsp;Sherpa&nbsp;guides had stood on the peak more often than him.</p>

<p>"People go 'it's a world record', it's not a world record," he said. "It's just that I happen to hold the non-Sherpa&nbsp;record, for whatever that is worth, which in my mind, (is) not very much."</p>

<p>The Moldovan climber died at Camp 4, said Expedition Himalaya, which arranged his permit.</p>

<p>"He felt unwell at South Col and despite many attempts to provide him aid he&nbsp;passed&nbsp;away," the company said.</p>

<p>Three Nepali climbers died on the mountain last month when a block of glacial ice fell and swept them into a deep crevasse as they were crossing the treacherous Khumbu icefall as part of a supply mission.</p>

<p>The season's toll rose to four when a 69-year-old US mountaineer died this month during his acclimatisation rotation at around 6,400 metres.</p>

Nepali mountaineer climbs Everest for record 27th time

<p>A 69-year-old American died while trekking Nepal’s Himalayan mountains, making it the fourth fatality on the world's highest peak this climbing season.</p>

<p>Jonathan Sugarman died during his acclimatisation rotation at around 6,400m on Monday, Mohan Kafle, manager of the expedition organiser Beyul Adventure, told the Himalayan Times newspaper.</p>

<p>According to reports, the Seattle-based medical doctor suddenly felt unwell at Camp II and breathed his last. The exact cause of his death is unclear.</p>

<p>He was a part of the expedition handled by International Mountain Guides (IMG), a Washington-based company. Beyul Adventure locally manages the IMG expedition.</p>

<p>The US Embassy in Nepal confirmed the death of Sugarman in a statement on Tuesday but did not offer additional details.</p>

<p>"Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends," it said. "The Embassy is in contact with Dr Sugarman’s family and with local authorities."</p>

<p>IMG’s owner Eric Simonson, too, in a statement declined to offer additional details.</p>

<p>"We can confirm that this event was not the result of a climbing accident or route condition that would be of potential impact or safety concern to any other teams on the mountain," Simonson said in a statement on the company's website.</p>

<p>This is not the first time he tried to scale the Everest. Last year, Sugarman reached Camp 3 on Everest before abandoning a climb, according to AFP news agency.</p>

<p>A ground search team also failed to locate the missing climbers so far, Khatiwada said.</p>

<p>The retirement of “Tibet” in favour of “Xizang” has been carried out by the&nbsp;state Chinese mouthpiece Global Times and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an attempt to shift the focus from all of these issues.</p>

<p>For the past few months, the nationalist tabloid has been referring to Tibet by the name “Xizang’. Notably, since January this year, the tabloid has used “Xizang” in&nbsp;more than 200&nbsp;English articles.</p>

<p>The first time it was used in a July article where the headline read “New Record for Horizontal Drilling Tech Set in Xizang Hydropower Project,” read&nbsp;one headline&nbsp;back in July.</p>

<p>Last month, another article’s headline said “Xizang Authorities Offer Support for Local People After COVID-19 Flare-up”.</p>

<p>And what is interesting to note is when one Googles the word <a name="_Hlk115556582">‘Xizang’</a>, the top four search articles are from the Global Times.</p>

<p>The latest mention came just&nbsp;last month when foreign minister Wang Yi met with Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg, and an official release noted that “Mongolia reaffirms its firm commitment to the one-China principle and opposes interference in China’s internal affairs related to Taiwan, Xizang, Xinjiang and Hong Kong, among others.”</p>

<p>Notably, this is not the first instance that Beijing has relabelled a name. For seven decades, the Chinese have favoured the name “Mount Qomolangma” over “Mount Everest”.</p>

<p>That is because the country claims that the name ‘Everest’ is associated with imperialism and colonialism.</p>

<p>From plastic bottles to discarded tents, the notoriously challenging 8,611-metre (28,251-feet) "savage mountain" of Pakistan can be seen littered and in a deplorable state in the images.</p>

<p>Highlighting that K2 was being turned into a “pigsty” by “fools who climb the mountains to satisfy their ego”, Cuenca said climbers were ascending with ever-greater supplies of food and oxygen bottles.</p>

<p>''We are supposed to be mountaineers, why do we do this to the mountain? Do we not go to the mountains to litter them,'' Cuenca added.</p>

<p>Local committees and NGOs work together tirelessly to clean up the mess on Mount Everest. In order to turn human waste into fuel for the local communities, the Nepali government is planning to build a solar-powered system.</p>

<p>An enormous comet that is twice the size of Mount Everest has entered the inner part of our solar system and is about to pass through Earth in July.</p>

<p>Comet&nbsp;C/2017 K2 (PANSTARRS), called K2 for short, was first spotted by the&nbsp;Hubble Space Telescope on the outer reaches of the solar system in 2017.</p>

<p>At the time, K2 was considered the farthest active comet ever spotted, although it was surpassed by a distant megacomet named&nbsp;Comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein&nbsp;last year.</p>

<p>According to astronomers, K2 will make its closest approach&nbsp;to Earth on July 14 during which the comet will be approximately 168 million miles (270 million kilometres) from&nbsp;Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Those who don’t own a telescope can view the comet’s passage online through public observatories like the Virtual Telescope Project's live webcast. It will begin at 2215 GM) on July 14.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After it passes Earth in July, K2 will continue its journey on toward perihelion, which is its closest pass by the sun.</p>

<p>Scientists have known about comet C/2017 K2 for several years. But there has been a debate about how big the comet’s nucleus is. According to NASA solar system ambassadors Eddie Irrizarry and Kelly Kizer Whitt, it is estimated that the comet falls between a range of 11 and 100 miles (18 and 161 kilometres) wide.</p>

<p>The size of the comet's tail, or coma, is also being debated by astronomers. The trail of dust and gases behind C/2017 K2 is estimated to be anywhere between 81,000 and 500,000 miles (130,000 and 800,000 kilometres) across.</p>

<p>Nepali climber Lhakpa Sherpa has broken her own record by climbing Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain above sea level, for the 10th time.</p>

<p>The 48-year-old woman scaled the 8,848.86-metre (29,031.69-foot), snow-capped summit and reached the top of the peak at around 6:15 am on Thursday.</p>

<p>Before leaving for the climb, Sherpa told news agency AFP "My climbing is not for the record. Many in the young generation follow my footstep. They climb mountains following me. So, I want the young generation to keep going and not to give up."</p>

<p>She was born in the eastern district of Sankhuwasabha, home to the world’s fifth highest mountain, Makalu, and was one of 11 children.</p>

<p>Sherpa's fellow Nepali, Kami Rita Sherpa, holds the men's record of 26 climbs.</p>

<p>Mount Everest, which is located on the border of Nepal and China, has been climbed 10,657 times since it was first scaled in 1953.</p>

<p>It is not an easy feat to climb the massive mountain as 311 people have died in the attempt of doing so.</p>

<p>Death of Russian climber Pavel Kostrikin at Camp I of Mount Everest marked the first reported death of a foreigner in current climbing season on the world highest peak. The camp is located at an altitude of 5360 metres &nbsp;(17,585 feet).</p>

<p>Kostrikin (55) died on Saturday, as per Bhishma Kumar Bhattarai, an official of Nepal's Department of Tourism who was quoted by Reuters.</p>

<p>"The Russian climber fell sick at Camp II and died after being brought to the Camp I," Bhattarai told Reuters without giving further details.</p>

<p>Camp II on the normal southeast ridge route on Everest is located at a height of around 6,400 metres (20,997 feet).</p>

<p>The body of the climber would be brought to Kathmandu when the weather improves.</p>

Russian climber dies on Mount Everest camp, says official

<p>Images and videos of Mount Everest, Earth's highest mountain above sea level, keep mesmerising people across the world. But the latest photo shared by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) shows a completely "different perspective".&nbsp;</p>

<p>The space agency posted an image of the highest mountain on Earth taken from the vantage point of space.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA revealed that an astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) has taken this near-nadir (almost straight down) photo of Mount Everest, which towers approximately 8,848 meters above sea level.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The embattled country wants the Himalayan country to ban the Russian mountaineers in the wake of invasion of Ukraine.</p>

<p>Nepal's Department of Tourism announced that it has started issuing climbing permits to climb the tallest mountain in the world in spring. It has so far issued permits for 18 expedition teams to climb mountains above 6,000m this spring season.</p>

<p>According to BBC, the Ukrainian embassy in Delhi sent a diplomatic note to Nepal's government saying that numerous international sports federations have barred Russian athletes.</p>

<p>"Taking into consideration the above, the esteemed Nepalese side is kindly requested to ban Russian mountaineering teams until the end of [the] Russian invasion into Ukraine," the letter said.</p>

<p>"There has been no change in our policy so far," the director general of Nepal's tourism department, Taranath Adhikari, told the BBC.</p>

<p>"We believe our mountains are global assets and any countries' citizens willing to visit them for attainment of peace should be allowed to do so - as long as they do it within our legal provisions."</p>

<p>The Ukrainian embassy in Delhi reportedly said that it made the request to the Nepalese embassy in the Indian capital on 21 March, but Nepalese embassy officials told the BBC they had received no communication on the issue.</p>

<p>During spring last year, a record 408 climbing permits were issued from the Nepali side, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, in which 49 Russians and 19 Ukrainians were registered on Nepalese mountains higher than 8,000m, according to the Himalayan Database, which records data related to mountaineering in the Nepalese Himalayas.</p>

<p>Out of them, 14 Russian and six Ukrainian climbers were on Everest.</p>

<p>According to local media reports, Nepal is expecting over 300 climbers to receive permits this year.</p>

Out of them, 14 Russian and six Ukrainian climbers were on Everest. According to local media reports, Nepal is expecting over 300 climbers to receive permits this year.
