<p>The discovery could give further clues as to the location of the team's personal effects and may help resolve one of mountaineering's most enduring mysteries: whether Irvine and Mallory ever managed to reach the summit.</p>

<p>That could confirm Irvine and Mallory as the first to successfully scale the peak, nearly three decades before the first currently recognised summit in 1953 by climbers Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.</p>

<p>Mount Everest has been growing taller slowly over the years and that's not news, as the mountain was created when two tectonic plates crashed into each other over millennia. But a new study has suggested that there's a relatively sudden growth spurt in the world's tallest peak, and this time it's being attributed to "river piracy".</p>

<p>The study published in Nature Journal examined GPS measurements over the years to reach a conclusion. It found that Everest, also known as Chomolungma or Sagarmatha, was growing at 0.08 inches or 2 millimetres per year, as opposed to the regular 0.04 inches or 1mm per year.</p>

<p>The study by University College London researchers said it "uncovers a previously unrecognised, additional mechanism of rock uplift active since river capture."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Everest is 8,849 metres tall, the nearby peak K2 is 8,611 m. The other three highest mountains in the Himalayas stand at 8,586 m, 8,516 m and 8,485 m, an elevation difference of not more than 100 m.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The researchers suggest that it could be because rocks below the mountain base are being eroded over the years by the rivers flowing in the area.</p>

<p>In science-speak, it is a phenomenon of&nbsp;'river drainage piracy' and 'river capture'.</p>

<p>The erosion of the rocks appears to affect the nearby peaks more than Mount Everest.</p>

<p>It is being caused by the merging of two rivers down below that happened tens of thousands of years ago.</p>

<p>A breathtaking aerial video of the journey from the base camp of Mount Everest to its summit was recorded by a drone, and has now gone viral.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The drone was created by DJI, a Chinese manufacturer, and the video that was made in collaboration with 8KRAW, has&nbsp;stunning visuals.</p>

<p>The four-minute-long footage starts from the base camp which is at an altitude of 5,300 metres.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The DJI Mavic 3 drone records the journey to the first campsite at 6,000 metres&nbsp;and&nbsp; provides&nbsp;breathtaking views of the Khumbu Icefall as well as the surrounding glaciers.</p>

<h2><strong>Himalayan clean-up operation</strong></h2>

<p>The army, as per the report, began its annual clean-up of the mountain in 2019. It was driven by concerns over overcrowding and the dangerous conditions climbers face to reach the summit. So far, these clean-ups have collected 119 tonnes of rubbish, 14 human corpses, and some skeletons.</p>

<p>This year, to reduce rubbish and improve rescues, authorities required climbers to wear tracking devices and bring back their poo.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the government plans to establish a team of mountain rangers to monitor rubbish and allocate more funds for its collection, said Rakesh Gurung, director of mountaineering at Nepal's Department of Tourism in a conversation with the BBC.</p>

<p>The numbers are expected to drop further as Nepal's Supreme Court has ordered the government to limit permits. However, it is not clear by how much the permits will be reduced because the preliminary order did not specify a maximum number.</p>

<p>Gurung said that he welcomed the order. He added that the government was looking at potential reforms such as staggering climbers to alleviate summit traffic jams. The government will work with experts to determine a safe number of climbers, he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Flying drones, or any aircraft for that matter, becomes difficult at higher altitudes because of thinner air and lower air pressure. These conditions also severely limit the amount of payload a drone can carry.</p>

<p>Following the successful test of the Chinese drone, the Nepalese government has launched a drone transport project to clean up the trekking path of the world's tallest summit.</p>

<p>The company added that an estimated 140 tonnes of waste have accumulated on the mountain over the past seven decades. This waste includes empty oxygen bottles, abandoned tents and food packaging.</p>

<p>The climbing season on Mount Everest is currently in full swing with hundreds of enthusiasts attempting to reach the summit. There are a few narrow windows of opportunity to plan the trek, avoiding dangerous winds and weather, but eventually causing rush and traffic jams.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Videos and photos have also shown filth sprawling base of the camp, an alarm for the environment. Besides all that, the rising number of deaths has also become a matter of huge concern.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a recent post on Instagram, mountaineer Rajan Dwivedi wrote, "Mt. Everest is not a joke and in fact, quite a serious climb."&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the post, Dwivedi further said that the main reason is the weather window to avoid the fierce cruising jet streams that could be 100-240 mph.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said that "coming down was a nightmare and exhausting while huge line of climbers were coming up to maximize on the weather window".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The team have found the Kenyan climber dead between the summit and the Hillary Step, but his guide is still missing," Khim Lal Gautam, chief of the tourism department's field office at the base camp, told AFP.</p>

<p>Another Nepali climber, Binod Babu Bastakoti, 37, died at about 8,200 metres (26,902 feet) on Wednesday, a statement from the tourism department said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A local tourist official told the AFP news agency that the search team that had been sent to find the two had not yet located the guide. Even for seasoned climbers, scaling the world's tallest mountain, Everest is regarded as exceedingly dangerous and challenging.</p>

<p>According to the Himalayan Times, Sherpa notified the base camp that Kirui had exhibited "abnormal behaviour" and had "refused to return and even consume bottled oxygen". Base camp authorities informed the newspaper that contact with the two was lost soon after the message. According to Kipkemoi Limo, a close climbing companion of Kirui's, he passed away after a fall.</p>

<p>Before his ascent, Kirui told the BBC last week that he had done considerable physical training.</p>

<p>Kirui had said that he was sure he could climb Everest without using more oxygen. But in case he had any problems, he told&nbsp;the BBC that&nbsp;Sherpa would offer emergency oxygen assistance and that he had emergency evacuation cover.</p>

<p>Kirui worked for one of Kenya's largest banks as a banker.</p>

They were attempting the summit approach from the South Col. Tsedendamba's body was found below the South Summit at an altitude of about 8,600 metres (28,215 feet) on Friday morning. "It seems he was returning from the summit. Search is continuing for the other climber," said Lakpa Sherpa of 8k Expedition Company, which organised the duo's climbing permits. Sherpa said the two men were climbing without guides and that their walkie-talkie had been found in their tent. Bad weather with high winds played spoilsport during search operations for the missing climbers below the summit. Mongolian climber found dead on Mount Everest, rescue operations underway for another

<p>Most people only dream of reaching the peak of Mount Everest once, but Kami Rita Sherpa, one of the world's most skilled climbing guides for the highest mountain in the world, has achieved the feat for the 29th time.</p>

<p>Rita reached the 8,849-metre (29,032-foot) peak of 'Sagarmatha' Known as Mount Everest&nbsp;in Nepal early&nbsp;Sunday (May 12),&nbsp;said Mingma Sherpa from Seven Summits Treks, as per media reports.</p>

<h2><strong>Breaking records</strong></h2>

<p>Kami Rita, as per the report, not only achieved the impressive feat of reaching the peak, but&nbsp;also broke his own record for most climbs.</p>

<p>After the climb, the&nbsp;54-year-old Sherpa&nbsp;was reported to be in good health and had started his trek down to the mountain's lower camps.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last year, Rita&nbsp;climbed the summit twice and broke the record for the most climbs on his first expedition and again on his second one a week later.</p>

<p>Reportedly, he and a fellow Sherpa guide, Pasand Dawa, had been competing for the record of most climbs of the 29,032-foot peak. Dawa has achieved the feat 27 times, two times less than Rita.</p>

<p>Just last week, Rita from the base camp posted on Instagram, "Back again for the 29th summit to the top of the world…One man's job, another man/woman's dream".</p>
