"This is because, although meteors can be seen all over the sky, they all appear to emerge or radiate from a single point lying within this constellation," she added. The Draconid meteor shower 2023 will be visible from Friday, October 6, to Tuesday, October 10. The best time to watch the event would be around 8 pm on Sunday, October 8, in the northwest of the sky. To increase your chances of spotting the meteor shower, find a dark area of clear sky and allow around 20 minutes to let your eyes adapt to the dark. Skywatchers who wish to look up for a long time can find a place to lie down. Don't fret if you missed the Draconids meteor shower, as the Orionids are currently happening and will reach their peak on October 21 and 22. The Independent has reported that&nbsp;ALE, a Japanese company based in Tokyo, is planning to create artificial meteor showers with the help of satellites which are scheduled to lift-off 2025 onwards.</p>

<p>The whole hoopla about artificial meteor shower may sound like some smart dude's idea to satisfy the eccentricities of his rich counterpart. But the artificial meteor shower is going to serve a scientific purpose.</p>

<p>Mesosphere, a layer in the Earth's atmosphere, is said to be a tricky area to study. Mesosphere is too high above for weather balloons and too low for satellites.</p>

<p>The Project Canvas, as the Japanese company's project is called, is going to create the 'meteor shower' by using a pressure driven system of gas tanks, reported BBC.</p>

<p>Naturally occurring meteor shower takes place when Earth moves through a patch of space debris caused by a comet or an asteroid. These&nbsp;particles, when they enter Earth's atmosphere under the gravitational pull, generate heat due to friction. And at this moment they are visible from the surface of the Earth as 'shooting stars'.</p>

<p>In Project Canvas, the satellites will shoot tiny pellets in the Earth's atmosphere at the speed of 8 kilometres per second. It being hoped that studying the path and light emission of&nbsp;these pellets' passage through the mesosphere will enable the scientists to gather more information about the layer of the atmosphere.</p>

The Independent has reported that ALE, a Japanese company based in Tokyo, is planning to create artificial meteor showers with the help of satellites which are scheduled to lift-off 2025 onwards. The whole hoopla about artificial meteor shower may sound like some smart dude's idea to satisfy the eccentricities of his rich counterpart. But the artificial meteor shower is going to serve a scientific purpose. Mesosphere, a layer in the Earth's atmosphere, is said to be a tricky area to study. Mesosphere is too high above for weather balloons and too low for satellites. The Project Canvas, as the Japanese company's project is called, is going to create the 'meteor shower' by using a pressure driven system of gas tanks, reported BBC. Naturally occurring meteor shower takes place when Earth moves through a patch of space debris caused by a comet or an asteroid. These particles, when they enter Earth's atmosphere under the gravitational pull, generate heat due to friction. And at this moment they are visible from the surface of the Earth as 'shooting stars'. In Project Canvas, the satellites will shoot tiny pellets in the Earth's atmosphere at the speed of 8 kilometres per second. It being hoped that studying the path and light emission of these pellets' passage through the mesosphere will enable the scientists to gather more information about the layer of the atmosphere. <p><strong>Geminid meteor shower 2022:</strong> The Geminids showers will peak between 2 and 3 a.m., with over 100 meteors approaching Earth, and Indian&nbsp;residents will be able to see them all with their own eyes. However, much depends on how clear the sky is.</p>

<p>Geminids travel at 78,000 mph (35 km/s), according to NASA data. This is more than 1000 times faster than a cheetah, about 250 times faster than the world's fastest car, and more than 40 times faster than a speeding bullet.</p>

<h2><strong>When and where to watch the Geminids showers 2022?</strong></h2>

<p>1. People living in areas near <strong>Bengaluru</strong> such as Hessarghatta, Bannerghatta, Devarayanadurga, and Kolar may have a&nbsp;good view of the meteor showers.</p>

<p>2. Despite the fact that 100-150 meteors will pass by in an hour, the Weather Channel predicts that people in Bengaluru will not be able to see them all due to light pollution.</p>

<p>Between the night of May 30 and the early morning of May 31, the sky&nbsp;would be lit-up with a brief, but, intense meteor display, thanks to a comet that split apart in 1995 and is apparently still fragmenting.</p>

<p>According to NASA, a new meteor shower— the Tau Herculids — might erupt, perhaps ranking with the best of the annual meteor displays in a week from now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This meteor, Tau Herculids, is fragment of the parent comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 (SW3).</p>

<p>Two German astronomers— Arnold Schwassmann&nbsp;and&nbsp;Arno Arthur Wachmann&nbsp;of Hamburg Observatory—had found this comet in 1930. It orbits the sun every 5.4 years.</p>

<p>But being so faint, SW3 wasn’t seen again until the late 1970s, seeming pretty normal until 1995, when astronomers realised the comet had become about 600 times brighter and went from a faint smudge to being visible with the naked eye during its passage.</p>

<p>Upon further investigation, astronomers realised that SW3 had shattered into several pieces, littering its own orbital trail with debris.</p>

<p>And the comet will be in our evening sky again in July and August 2022.</p>

If the debris from SW3 was traveling more than 220 miles per hour (354 kph) when it separated from the comet, we might see a nice meteor shower. If the debris had slower ejection speeds, then nothing will make it to Earth and there will be no meteors from this comet.”</p>
