Ruben Amorim fears Bruno Fernandes will be out for "a while" after the Manchester United captain was injured during Sunday's 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa. Fernandes has started every Premier League game this season, but the Portugal midfielder is unlikely to extend that run any further following his injury setback at Villa Park. The 31-year-old initially played on after pulling up with what appeared to be a hamstring issue just before the break, but he did not return for the second half. The 20-year-old had dominated the build-up to Sunday's game after his half-brother wore a 'Free Kobbie Mainoo' t-shirt to Monday's 4-4 draw with Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Mainoo would have been in contention to make his first Premier League start of the season against Newcastle, but instead, he is set to miss out.&nbsp;"I will see what we are going to do," Amorim said. Wolves' eighth successive league defeat equalled their worst top-flight run since 1981-82 and left boss Rob Edwards still waiting for his first victory since arriving from Middlesbrough to replace the sacked Vitor Pereira in November. Wolves have just two points after 15 games and if they fail to win either of their next two against Arsenal and Brentford they will equal Sheffield United's longest winless start in the Premier League of 17 matches. Derby's Premier League record low of just 11 points in a single season is also under threat from dismal Wolves. Perfect response Diogo Dalot should have put United ahead in the opening moments when he raced clean through on goal, but the defender's tame shot was palmed away by Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone. It was a shambolic goal in keeping with Wolves' wretched campaign. Andre's wayward back-pass was intercepted by Cunha and when he flicked the ball to Fernandes, the Portugal midfielder initially slipped over before recovering to poke a weak shot that somehow evaded Johnstone as it crept over the line. As boos rained down from furious Wolves supporters, United went for the kill and Cunha's strike was cleared off the line by Toti. United's focus briefly wavered and Wolves snatched their long-awaited goal in first half stoppage-time. Amorim's men couldn't clear a succession of crosses and David Moller Wolfe's pass was turned in at full-stretch by Bellegarde from 12 yards. But United provided the perfect response in the 51st minute. A flowing move cut through the Wolves defence as Mount's pass found Dalot and his unselfish cutback allowed Mbeumo to slot into the empty net. In the 62nd minute, Mount timed his run perfectly to meet Fernandes' cross with an emphatic volley from six yards. Fernandes' fourth goal this season put the seal on a one-sided contest as he stroked home an 82nd minute penalty after Yerson Mosquera handled. Premier League: Matheus Cunha still out as Man Utd seek to rebound at Crystal Palace

Everton survived an astonishing moment of madness at Old Trafford on Monday when Idrissa Gueye was sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane to beat Manchester United 1-0. All I can say is Idrissa apologised to us all at half-time and said his piece."Former United boss Moyes, celebrating his first win at Old Trafford as a visiting manager at his 18th attempt, said he was "incredibly proud" of his players."We've come close a lot of times, but not quite been able to go over the line," he said.“But tonight, incredibly, we got over the line with 10 men, which was probably the hardest way to get a good result.”<h2>Toothless United</h2>Ruben Amorim, marking the first anniversary of his maiden game in charge of United, made several changes in the second half in a frantic search for an equaliser but his team still lacked a cutting edge despite dominating possession.Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford kept out a powerful Joshua Zirkzee header with just over 10 minutes of normal time to go and Everton hung on for their first win at Old Trafford since 2013, with United booed off.Earlier, the visitors suffered a big blow in just the 10th minute when they lost captain Seamus Coleman. But worse was to follow three minutes later with the scarcely believable bust-up between Gueye and Keane.Gueye is the first Premier League player to be sent off for fighting with a teammate since 2008.The Premier League Match Centre posted on X: "The referee's call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR –- with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane."A bitterly disappointed Amorim, seeking his fifth straight win at home, said his team had lacked intensity."You can feel right away when we start the game in the first minute, we can feel when we are at the top level in intensity and when we are not," he said. "We cannot win games in this way."He added: "I'm really frustrated with the way we played the game, especially in our home, especially understanding what happened during this week with the other clubs, looking at the table."

The home crowd anticipated waves of attack but United failed to take advantage, proving toothless against David Moyes' battling team. Dewsbury-Hall received the ball midway inside United's half and surged towards goal, beating Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro before bending the ball into the top corner. United, missing injured forwards Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, huffed and puffed but could not find an equaliser despite 25 shots on goal to Everton's three. Goalscorer Dewsbury-Hall, addressing the red-card incident, said Gueye had apologised. "It was just a moment of madness," he told Sky Sports. "It was obviously avoidable. All I can say is Idrissa apologised to us all at half-time and said his piece." Former United boss Moyes, celebrating his first win at Old Trafford as a visiting manager at his 18th attempt, said he was "incredibly proud" of his players. "We've come close a lot of times, but not quite been able to go over the line," he said. “But tonight, incredibly, we got over the line with 10 men, which was probably the hardest way to get a good result.” Toothless United Ruben Amorim, marking the first anniversary of his maiden game in charge of United, made several changes in the second half in a frantic search for an equaliser but his team still lacked a cutting edge despite dominating possession. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford kept out a powerful Joshua Zirkzee header with just over 10 minutes of normal time to go and Everton hung on for their first win at Old Trafford since 2013, with United booed off. Earlier, the visitors suffered a big blow in just the 10th minute when they lost captain Seamus Coleman. But worse was to follow three minutes later with the scarcely believable bust-up between Gueye and Keane. Gueye is the first Premier League player to be sent off for fighting with a teammate since 2008. The Premier League Match Centre posted on X: "The referee's call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR –- with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane." A bitterly disappointed Amorim, seeking his fifth straight win at home, said his team had lacked intensity. "You can feel right away when we start the game in the first minute, we can feel when we are at the top level in intensity and when we are not," he said. "We cannot win games in this way." He added: "I'm really frustrated with the way we played the game, especially in our home, especially understanding what happened during this week with the other clubs, looking at the table."

Viktor Gyokeres headed Arsenal ahead following a Declan Rice corner in the first half at Turf Moor for his first league goal since mid-September -- yet more joy for the set-piece specialists.

Arsenal brushed Burnley aside 2-0 on Saturday to open up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League as struggling Nottingham Forest held in-form Manchester United to a 2-2 draw. Mikel Arteta's Gunners have won five league games in a row to position themselves as firm favourites to end their painful two-decade wait to be crowned English champions. Viktor Gyokeres headed Arsenal ahead following a Declan Rice corner in the first half at Turf Moor for his first league goal since mid-September -- yet more joy for the set-piece specialists. England midfielder Rice himself headed home to double the visitors' lead in the 35th minute and put them in total control. "The first half was exceptional -- we scored two goals and gave nothing away," Arteta told the BBC. "That was the platform. We had to make a few changes and didn't have that much control in the second half. Defending was exceptional again, we didn't give anything." But Forest, who had not scored a league goal since September 20, roared back after the break as their confidence flooded back. Morgan Gibbs-White headed the home side level in the 48th minute before Nicolo Savona tapped in just two minutes later to complete a dramatic turnaround. But Amad Diallo levelled with a sweet volley in the 81st minute to rescue a point for United, who have been much improved in recent weeks after a poor start to the season. Diallo said United were disappointed to go home with a single point after their recent winning run. "We have confidence now," he told Sky Sports. "We believe in the manager and the system. We are trying to do our best. We believe in the manager like he believes in us." Forest, who last month appointed Sean Dyche as manager to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou, remain in the relegation zone, four points behind 17th-placed Burnley. Rock-bottom Wolves are an alarming eight points from safety after a miserable 3-0 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Ryan Sessegnon put the visitors ahead early and Wolves were reduced to 10 men when Emmanuel Agbadou was dismissed later in the first half. Harry Wilson doubled Fulham's lead in the 62nd minute and an own goal from Yerson Mosquera completed the misery for Wolves. Crystal Palace won for the first time in four league games, courtesy of a header from Jean-Philippe Mateta and an own goal from Brentford's Nathan Collins, which made it 2-0. The evergreen Danny Welbeck netted his sixth Premier League goal of the season and there were also two for Diego Gomez as Brighton pummelled Leeds 3-0. Tottenham host London rivals Chelsea in the early evening kick-off with the chance to climb to second in the table. Champions Liverpool host Aston Villa in the late kick-off, desperate to end a four-match losing streak that has derailed their title defence. Arne Slot's men were 12 points clear of Unai Emery's Villa in late September but the teams are now level on 15 points in mid-table. Premier League: Arsenal cruise against Burnley, Man Utd held by Forest

Manchester United are heading in the "right direction", according to sporting director Jason Wilcox as the Red Devils look to maintain an upturn in fortunes under Ruben Amorim. For the first time in the Poruguese's year-long reign, United have won three consecutive Premier League games to surge up to sixth in the table. Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes reveals turning down Saudi offer to stay at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said the support of co-owner Jim Ratcliffe will mean little if he fails to turn around the club's fortunes. In an interview with the Times newspaper's The Business podcast, last week, British billionaire Ratcliffe said Amorim has to "demonstrate he is a great coach over three years". Amorim is approaching a year in the Old Trafford hotseat and is yet to win back-to-back Premier League games. Doing so away to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday would be a major step in the right direction and the Portuguese knows he will be under intense pressure until results improve."You know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that," Amorim said at his pre-match press conference on Friday, referring to Ratcliffe's timescale. Also Read - <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/dp-world-india-championship-shubhankar-sharma-top-indian-as-tommy-fleetwood-takes-lead-1760712737663">DP World India Championship: Shubhankar top Indian as Fleetwood takes lead</a>"The most important thing is the next game."United ended the season 15th in the Premier League last term -- their lowest finish for 51 years -- and squandered a chance to qualify for the Champions League when they lost the Europa League final to Tottenham. They have fared little better this season, sitting 10th in the Premier League after losing three of their first seven league games and crashing to a shock League Cup defeat at fourth-tier Grimsby.Yet Amorim has so far retained the support of Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox."First of all, I can feel it. It's not just that thing that people talk, I feel it every day. Sometimes the pressure that I put on the team, on myself, is so much bigger than them," said Amorim."I know that it's going to take a while but I don't want to think like that. I said that last year. I think it also helps our fans to understand that the leadership understands that it's going to take a while."But, at the same moment, I don't like that because it will give a feeling that we have time to work things out. United ended the season 15th in the Premier League last term -- their lowest finish for 51 years -- and squandered a chance to qualify for the Champions League when they lost the Europa League final to Tottenham.

Doing so away to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday would be a major step in the right direction and the Portuguese knows he will be under intense pressure until results improve. "You know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that," Amorim said at his pre-match press conference on Friday, referring to Ratcliffe's timescale. United ended the season 15th in the Premier League last term -- their lowest finish for 51 years -- and squandered a chance to qualify for the Champions League when they lost the Europa League final to Tottenham. They have fared little better this season, sitting 10th in the Premier League after losing three of their first seven league games and crashing to a shock League Cup defeat at fourth-tier Grimsby. Yet Amorim has so far retained the support of Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox. "First of all, I can feel it. It's not just that thing that people talk, I feel it every day. Sometimes the pressure that I put on the team, on myself, is so much bigger than them," said Amorim. "I know that it's going to take a while but I don't want to think like that. I said that last year. I think it also helps our fans to understand that the leadership understands that it's going to take a while. "But, at the same moment, I don't like that because it will give a feeling that we have time to work things out. I don't want that feeling here in our club. A 2-0 victory over Sunderland before the international break eased the scrutiny on Amorim's position. To maintain the level is even more important and is really difficult," said Amorim. Manchester United's Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has completed a season-long loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor. Onana's future at Old Trafford was in doubt after United signed Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens for 21 million euros (£18.2 million) plus add-ons. The 29-year-old Onano joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 for an initial 51 million euros plus a potential four million euros in add-ons and ended his first season with an FA Cup winners' medal. But Onana's increasingly erratic performances and clashes with manager Ruben Amorim last season left his position in doubt.

The 20-time English champions finished 15th last season in their worst league campaign since being relegated in 1974. Now, one of their only two realistic shots at a trophy this season has disappeared in one of the worst results in the club's history.

League Two side Grimsby won a marathon penalty shootout 12-11 after a 2-2 draw. After a woeful first half, United trailed 2-0 to goals from Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren. The 20-time English champions finished 15th last season in their worst league campaign since being relegated in 1974. Now, one of their only two realistic shots at a trophy this season has disappeared in one of the worst results in the club's history. Amorim made eight changes from the side that drew 1-1 at Fulham on Sunday, but still named a side that cost hundreds of millions of pounds, packed full of internationals. Benjamin Sesko made his first United start after a £74 million move from RB Leipzig ($99 million), while Andre Onana returned on a night to forget for the United goalkeeper. Grimsby had been waiting for a visit from United since 1948 and roared out of the blocks to fully deserve their two-goal half-time lead. Vernam fired a low, powerful effort past Onana at his near post on 22 minutes to the delight of most of the 9,000 capacity crowd at Blundell Park. The hosts continued to make a mockery of the three-division gap between the sides. Cameron Gardner had the ball in the net but was denied a second for a handball. Yet, moments later, Grimsby did double their lead when Onana failed to claim a corner and Warren gratefully tapped in. Onana's poor evening may hasten United's rumoured move for Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens in the final days of the transfer window. Amorim responded at half-time by throwing on captain Bruno Fernandes, Mbeumo and Matthijs de Ligt for a rescue mission. Despite United's dominance of the second period, they were lacking inspiration until Mbeumo took aim and curled into the bottom corner from outside the box. Maguire has been forced forward as a makeshift striker at times during Amorim's troubled reign and looked to have come up with a huge moment for his manager in the 89th minute as the England international headed in Mason Mount's corner. Sesko then skied an incredible chance to win the tie five minutes into stoppage time, ensuring penalties were needed. Cunha had the chance to win the shootout at 4-4, but his effort was saved by Christy Pym. After 15 more successful spot-kicks, including from both goalkeepers, Mbeumo hit the bar to seal United's fate. Klopp, appointed in October 2015, was backed through the rebuilding phase and delivered his first trophy in 2019. “When Liverpool went through this, they got Klopp, they stuck with him,” Rashford said. “They didn’t win in the beginning. People only remember his final few years when he was competing with [Manchester] City and winning the biggest trophies – he certainly didn’t win for three years." “To start a transition, you have to make a plan and stick to it. So this is the thing that I feel – it’s not easy. But this is where I speak about being realistic with what your situation is. I feel like we’ve had that many different managers and different ideas and different strategies in order to win … you end up in the middle of – you end up in no man’s land.”

During the meetup, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and batsman Karun Nair were asked a couple of quickfire questions on the sidelines. On being asked about who is all your time favourite Manchester United hero, Bumrah replied by taking name of former Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Karun said Cristiano Ronaldo. Next on to share their thoughts on which United player would make the best cricketer, the pacer replied by taking name of Mason Mount, while Karun said Matheus Cunha, who Manchester United recently signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Lastly, when the duo were asked about who in the Indian cricket team will be the best footballer, Karun laughingly said that there is no one better than him, while Jasprit Bumrah made a startling revelation and said that all the members of the Indian cricket team are fond of Mohammed Siraj.

'Mohammed Siraj will be very good at...': Bumrah makes BIG revelation during Team India-Man United meet up

Ahead of the Premier League 2025–26 season, Manchester United’s new signing Matheus Cunha reflected on how it feels to join the club and recalled his early memories of watching United. He also named the players who inspired his playing style growing up. Speaking exclusively on JioHotstar, Matheus Cunha reflected on his move to Manchester United. The Brazilian said, “It is hard to find words to describe this moment. It is a dream come true. Sometimes, it is difficult to believe I am really here. This club has always meant something special to me. There is a funny story — back home in Brazil, we could only watch the Premier League at my grandma’s house because neither, my house nor my cousins had the channel. So, every weekend, we would plan to watch matches at her place. My cousin, who is older than me, supported Manchester United. He was the one who introduced me to the Premier League — and to United. Even when we played on the gravel pitches back home, which is very common in Brazil, I would imagine playing for United. To be here now, and to think back to those moments — it is incredibly emotional.” On the Manchester United icons, who shaped his love for the game, the 26-year-old said, “Wayne Rooney was the one I looked up to. I have tried to bring elements of his game into mine — the way he gave everything, went to ground to win the ball, and still had the skill and impact up front. He wore the number 10 shirt and led by example. Of course, there were others — Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Van der Sar. That entire team left a big mark on me during my teenage years. All my focus is on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top," he signed off.

The Brazilian forward was an exciting buy from Wolverhampton Wanderers, on the back of a remarkable 2024/25 season that saw him score 15 goals in the Premier League for the Molineux club

Barcelona are closing in on a sensational move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford as the England star is all set for yet another new chapter in his career. Rashford, who is out of favour at United under manager Ruben Amorim, will spend a season on loan at Barcelona after a deal was struck between the two clubs. Ahead of the switch, let us analyse why it is a win-win situation for all parties, including both clubs and the player.<h2>New chapter for Rashford</h2>Having started his career at United, Rashford has scored over 100 goals for the Red Devils, earning a reputation as the fans' favourite among the faithful. However, his disciplinary issues were brought to light once Amorim took over as United manager in November 2024. As a result, Rashford was first frozen out of the squad and later sent on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-25 season.&nbsp;Rashford’s latest move to Barcelona means he will stay away from the club temporarily, meaning a return to United is still a possibility if Amorim gets sacked in the future. The forward will also play Champions League football at Barcelona, improving his chances of an international return with the FIFA World Cup less than a year away.&nbsp;ALSO READ | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/after-antony-jadon-sancho-is-bryan-mbeumo-another-recipe-for-disaster-at-manchester-united-1752911099993">After Antony, Jadon Sancho is Bryan Mbeumo another recipe for disaster at Manchester United?</a><h2>Why United are in win-win situation?</h2>As things stand, the 27-year-old has three years still remaining on his United contract, meaning the Red Devils can negotiate for a heavy price if they intend to sell him in the next year. If that is the case, it will help United balance the bank sheets while Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations get tightened. In case the England forward returns after a loan spell and Amorim is sacked, United could still do with his services for at least the remaining two years of his contract.<h2>Barcelona’s temporary solution</h2>Like United, Barcelona are also troubled with the FFP regulations in Spain, which has seen them in danger of registering players. Barcelona had to win a court battle to register Dani Olmo for the second half of last season, hinting at their desperation for a temporary deal. Had they signed Nico Williams, they would have needed to sell at least one of their star names to get the player registered. However, in Rashford’s situation, they can register him as one of the loanees, keeping sports free for permanent transfers.
