"Jon cannot see it but that the VAR is there and don't whistle the penalty is incredible," said Guardiola.

"You know after four years I don't talk about the referees, but this action is incredible.

"Maybe one day they will explain us really the rule for all the players, managers.

Pep Guardiola says his Manchester City squad are "on fire" in training as they look to get back to winning ways against Southampton on Wednesday.

The Premier League leaders' record 21-game winning streak in all competitions was ended by Manchester United in Sunday's derby at the Etihad Stadium.

Asked on Tuesday about the mood in the camp since the weekend, the City manager said his players were determined to return to winning ways.

"A mix of disappointment and sadness but, at the same time, the second day a bit better and today completely on fire to try to do a good game tomorrow," he said.

"It's a normal process when you lose the games. The reaction is common."

City, seeking to win their third Premier League title in four seasons, are 11 points clear of United with 10 games to go but Guardiola said there was still work to do.

"When the option is open everything can happen in football," he said. "Nobody thought we could win 21 in a row. Anything can happen. United can do it.

"We have 10 games left and we have to win six or seven games to be champions mathematically. We're going to try to win the first one tomorrow."

Manchester City Football Club on Monday revealed that they will honour David Silva with the commissioning of a statue to be located at the Etihad Stadium. A training pitch with bespoke mosaic will also be dedicated to him at the City Football Academy.

The news comes as Silva, widely considered one of the club’s greatest ever players, called time on his City career after Saturday’s defeat to Lyon, after ten exceptional seasons. Silva himself was privately informed of the plans by Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak following his final Premier League game against Norwich in July.

Having last year announced a similar plan to celebrate the contribution made by Vincent Kompany, the Club will unveil Silva’s lasting tribute following that of the former Belgian captain, the creation of which is currently underway. Both sculptures will be unveiled in 2021.

A World Cup winner and twice European champion with his native Spain, Silva, known affectionately as El Mago, played an integral role in the most transformative period in City’s history. In 436 appearances, he won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and three Community Shields as City positioned themselves as a leading club in the global game.

Reflecting on Silva’s time at the club Manchester City Chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, said: “David Silva is a transformational player; a quiet leader who has acted quietly and deliberately and inspired everyone around him, from the youngest academy player to his senior team-mates over the past ten years. City dominated the early exchanges, pinning Arsenal back, but were stopped in their tracks when Aubameyang produced a neat finish in the 19th minute following a flowing end-to-end move.

Pep Guardiola's City side never fully recovered and, just when they were beginning to exert some real pressure after the break, Aubameyang produced another sublime finish, racing through to fire past goalkeeper Ederson in the 71st minute.
