Tensions between India and Canada continue to escalate after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian government agents were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.&nbsp;

The protest took place days after the Trudeau government, once again came under fire as the Baloch Human Rights Council of Canada (BHRC) in a strongly worded statement, has raised concerns about the inaction over the abduction and alleged murder of exiled Baloch human rights activist Karima Baloch in 2020.

Speaking to news agency ANI, her husband, Hammal Haidar, who was present at the protest on Thursday, accused the Canadian government of showing no interest in uncovering the truth about the activist’s death.

<h2>What happened to Karima Baloch?</h2>

The body of Karima Baloch was found in Toronto in 2020. She had been living in exile for five years due to terrorism charges in Pakistan. A vocal critic of the Pakistani military and spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) — collectively dubbed as the establishment —Karima Baloch hailed from the region of Balochistan in western Pakistan.

The BHRC, in a statement, earlier this week, claimed that there was a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/justin-trudeau-slammed-for-inaction-over-baloch-activists-mysterious-death-639796">“stark contrast”</a> with the Canadian government’s actions on the Khalistani terrorist Nijjar.&nbsp;

“Karima Baloch had revealed about the threats she was receiving. She was bravely engaged in her struggle despite her maternal uncle being abducted and killed by the Pakistani agencies. And one day we got the news about Karima’s death,” Chairman of the BNM Dr Naseem Baloch told ANI.&nbsp;

He added, “Whatever she revealed before her death clearly indicates the kind of threats the Baloch diaspora has been facing. Pakistan Army has been doing barbarism in Balochistan for over seven decades and the world is aware of this.”&nbsp;

<h2>Canadian govt ‘not concerned’: Karima’s husband</h2>

Speaking to the news agency, Haidar said, “We believe that the Canadian government and…justice system didn’t do well for Karima Baloch who died in a suspicious manner…and we have been requesting the Canadian government to investigate her case. But, we have seen no interest from the Canadian government.”&nbsp;

He added, “So, it is our firm belief that the Canadian government is not concerned about our activists living in Canada…”

“She was a high-profile politician and her assassination was taken up by all the international media. All over Balochistan, the people are demanding a thorough investigation into her case. But, unfortunately, we have not seen anything from Trudeau’s government or the Canadian government right now.”&nbsp;

He also went on to accuse the Pakistani intelligence agency of her assassination as a part of their bid to eliminate activists abroad. “We have some information that they are also gathering information about other political activists. So, there is no doubt that the Pakistani military establishment, especially the Pakistani ISI is behind killing,” said Haidar.&nbsp;

As per sources, it has been found that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been providing funds&nbsp;to intensify Khalistani activities in Canada.

The report citing sources said that in the recent months, funds were given to some top Khalistani leaders in order to accelerate anti-India activities.&nbsp;

The funding, according to the report, has been utilised to take people to the protest site, make posters and banners, and also to instigate youth against India.&nbsp;

The report came amid both India and Canada issued travel advisories cautioning their respective nationals against travelling to the countries.

“In view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, all Indian nationals there and those contemplating travel are urged to exercise utmost caution,” the travel advisory issued by India reads.

A similar advisory was issued by Ottawa earlier on Wednesday, in which the Canadian government asked its citizens to ‘exercise a high degree of caution’ while travelling to India.

In its travel advisory, the Canadian government said, “Avoid all travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir due to the unpredictable security situation."

"There is a threat of terrorism, militancy, civil unrest, and kidnapping. This advisory excludes travelling to or within the Union Territory of Ladakh. Avoid gatherings and demonstrations," the Canadian government said.

<h2>India-Canada row</h2>

A diplomatic standoff erupted between India and Canada after PM Trudeau suggested in his address to the House of Commons that India might be linked to the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Ottawa also expelled a senior Indian diplomat even as the investigation continues.

However, India has strongly rejected these claims, while reiterating its adherence to the rule of law. New Delhi has also called on Ottawa to check the rampant anti-India activities on Canadian soil and respect the territorial integrity of India.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence funding Khalistan activities in Canada: Report

Jammu and Kashmir Bank this week reportedly fired its Chief Manager Sajad Ahmad Bazaz after he purportedly turned out a "terror asset" and an "agent of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence", region's Daily Excelsior paper reported.

In an order, the Managing Director of the bank stated that "after considering the facts and circumstances of the case contained in the report received from credible agencies that the activities of Sajad Ahmad Bazaz, posted at Internal Communication and Marketing Department are such as to warrant his dismissal from service under Rule/Provision 12.29 in OSM (Officers Service Manual)."

<h2>Bazaz was one of the most important Pakistani assets: Report</h2>

According to sources cited by Daily Excelsior newspaper, the current bank management had no clue that Bazaz was one of the most important Pakistani assets, secretly working for ISI and terror outfits.&nbsp;

The report added that following the abrogation of Article 370 of Indian Constitution in August 2019, the top investigators were probing link of deep ISI assets within the terror ecosystem when the name of Bazaz cropped up.&nbsp;

<h2>Bazaz was planted by Pakistani intelligence agencies: Report</h2>

The investigators reportedly found that Bazaz, originally a resident of Batamaloo Srinagar, was planted in J&amp;K Bank in 1990 by Pakistan ISI.&nbsp;He was appointed as Cashier-cum-Clerk.&nbsp;

The Daily Excelsior report said that Sajad was an embedded asset of the terrorist-separatist networks working on behalf of ISI.

Bazaz while being a full-time employee of J&amp;K Bank was also a full-timer with a Kashmir based newspaper as a correspondent-cum-columnist under a different name.&nbsp;

"This is open knowledge and known to all. Initially he used 'Sajjad Ahmad' as his penname. He cleverly added one additional ‘j’ and also dropped his surname ‘Bazaz’. Later with passage of time he got emboldened when neither his employer nor the law of the land could take cognizance of his wrongdoings, Sajad added his surname and wrote under byline ‘Sajjad Bazaz’," Daily Excelsior paper cited an official source as saying.

Jammu and Kashmir Bank fires chief manager for being ‘terror asset’, having ISI links

The Pakistan government’s attempts to amend the colonial-era secrets act that seeks to grant unbridled power to its military intelligence agency were staunchly opposed by the opposition MPs, forcing the government to refer the bill to the standing committee.

On Wednesday (Aug 2), the outgoing government introduced the Official Secrets (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which was passed by the lower house on Tuesday (Aug 1).

The bill gives power to agencies like the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) to “at any time, enter and search any person or place, without warrant, and if necessary, by use of force” for anyone suspected of breaching the Official Secrets Act, such as leaking the name of an agency official, reports Dawn newspaper.

It also defines an “enemy” broadly as “any person directly or indirectly intentionally or unintentionally working for or engaged with the foreign power, foreign agent, non-state actor, organisation [or] a group guilty of a particular act tending to show a purpose that is prejudicial to the safety and interest of Pakistan”.

<h2>Draconian law</h2>

Activists and lawyers believe that such a “draconian” law would completely erode the country’s fragile democracy and human rights values.

They are particularly against the broad definition of “enemy” mentioned in the bill, which they believe is “against the principles of natural justice” as it treats unintentional contact at par with planned espionage.

It has now been placed before a standing committee before it is presented to the Senate to formally become law or be rejected.

Senator Tahir Bezinjo said the government was “setting a very dangerous precedent” with this amendment.

“This gives a legal cover for security agencies such as ISI to raid, abduct, and detain people,” he said.

“I am 100 per cent sure the same law will be used against anyone, be it politicians, activists or lawyers, who confront the military and its power. It is indeed a black chapter in the history of Pakistan.”

Enforced disappearances, abductions, and tortures by Pakistan’s military agencies are quite common in the country. There is no law currently that can limit their powers.

Every single day, people from different sections of society are on the roads protesting against shortages of flour and wheat, load-shedding, non-payment of salaries, forcefully cutting the salaries of government servants, non-payments of pensions, lack of health and education facilities, etc.

There is not a single sector of economy, political activity or social life in PoJK-GB that has not suffered at the hands of the occupying Pakistan military and the state of Pakistan. 
 
Recently, a long march was conducted by youths of PoJK from Rawalakot to Titrinote crossing point on the Line of Control. While speeches were being delivered against Pakistani occupation and their Jihadi proxies, three men jumped onto the stage and snatched the microphone from the speaker. 
 
They then fled the scene firing shots from pistols and warning of serious consequences if the protest continued to target Pakistan of Jihadi organisations. The organiser of the event say that the attackers were from a local Jihadi outfit. 
 
This is testimony to the fact that Pakistan will use its Jihadi proxies in PoJK-GB to counter attempts by the locals to fight Pakistani occupation. 
 
It also shows that Pakistan has a well-structured Jihadi network in all major cities of PoJK-GB that are acting as a fascist force to tackle any local movement that raises the desire to rejoin Mother India. 
 
However, it will not be an easy task for Pakistan to succeed in its vicious design. The reason is simple. National question in both PoJK-GB is a burning issue in the context of both territories being occupied by Pakistan. 
 
Religion will play no role to dilute the struggle for reunification of these territories with Mother India. The creation of Bangladesh is testimony to the fact that national liberation sentiment is by far stronger than religious sentiment. 
 
Therefore, clashes between Jihadist and nationalist seems imminent leading to Civil War in all parts of the PoJK-GB. Once this happens, Pakistan will be truly engulfed in a multi-front Civil War further leading towards the disintegration of the state. 
 
The ongoing militancy in Khyber Paktoonkhawa, Sindh, Balochistan and the unrest in PoJK-GB is an indication of non-resolvable political, economic and above all nationalistic contradictions that can only be resolved by the liberation of all oppressed nations living under the occupation of the state of Pakistan and its armies. 
 
The disintegration of Pakistan as a state and the break-up of its military power will lead to the dismantling of the terrorist industry, thriving at the moment, and bring peace to the region and the rest of the world.

Pakistan: Top ISI official gunned down along with four army soldiers

A senior Pakistani ISI officer has been killed in an encounter with militants in South Waziristan. Pakistani President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended his funeral. No group has claimed the responsibility yet.

On Tuesday, Brigadier Mustafa Kamal Barki of the inter services intelligence, Pakistan's main spy agency, was killed in an encounter with militants. Seven team members of the high-ranking Pakistani intelligence official were also injured in the South Waziristan encounter. In November, Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan called off a shaky ceasefire agreed with the Pakistan government. The armed group ordered fighters to stage attacks across the country. Pakistan has seen a surge in attacks from the Afghan side of the border; following the Taliban takeover in 2021. Almost all Afghan governments have refused to accept the colonial-era border demarcation. The durand line runs through the mountainous border, splitting tribes on either side. The border dispute has led to periodic skirmishes & tensions between Pak & Afghan forces. As of now, Pakistan's military have not given reasons for Brigadier Barki's presence in the border area.

Sunday (March 12) marks the 30th anniversary of the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Bombay (Mumbai city's official name before 1995), which ripped apart India's financial hub and resulted in hundreds of fatalities in the hands of the dreaded terror attacks.&nbsp;

As India looks back at that terrible day 30 years ago, some wounds remain unhealed. But Mumbaikars (the local people of Mumbai) have confronted the fear with courage. There were a total of 12 terrorist bomb blasts on March 12, 1993, that occurred in the city in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The blasts took the lives of 257 people and injured&nbsp;thousands of others.&nbsp;

It all started with an explosives-packed automobile which blew off in the basement of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) building at around 1:30 in the afternoon on March 12. The explosions shocked the city's most crowded places and lasted for a little over two hours, from 1:30 pm to 3:40 pm.&nbsp;

There was panic and confusion everywhere. The injured were rushed to the hospitals which were overcrowded in the aftermath of dozens of blasts on that fateful day, which later came to be known as “Black Friday”. Many still continue to battle the horrors of that day and the dark memories still haunt them.&nbsp;

Dawood Ibrahim, one of India's most sought criminals was the mastermind behind the 1993 Mumbai blasts. He is known to have founded&nbsp;the criminal syndicate D-Company in Bombay in the 1970s. Famous actors have played the notorious gangster in several films and television shows that were inspired by him. Many Indian films detail the 1993 terror blasts and ensuing police inquiry.

But Dawood Ibrahim and another gangster Tiger Memon, the 1993 explosion's masterminds, were able to elude the police and other enforcement agencies. Tiger Memon's real name is Ibrahim Mushtaq Abdul Razzaq Memon, but he is popularly known by his nickname.&nbsp;

Yakub Memon, the brother of Tiger Memon, was imprisoned in 1994. He was found guilty of conspiring, organising and funding training, and buying cars used for the bombings. He was convicted and awarded a death sentence in July 2007. After a gruelling 14 years of agony, the Supreme Court of India, in 2013, passed the final judgement on the case and upheld an earlier death sentence for Yakub Memon.&nbsp;

Yakub was hanged at Nagpur Prison on July 30, 2015, at 6:35 am IST.

But sadly, Yakub's brother Tiger Memon who is the prime suspect in the 1993 Bombay blasts and is believed to have conspired with Dawood Ibrahim, continues to remain at large till date.&nbsp;

The investigations into the explosion also purportedly exposed the D-Company’s nexus with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).&nbsp;

A total of 193 of the accused were detained by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch and the Special Task Force, which was led by the Central Bureau of Investigation. A total of 140 people were put on trial; however, 17 of them passed away during the course of&nbsp;the trial. 100 of the 123 suspects who faced trial were found guilty, while 23 were acquitted.&nbsp;

After the attacks, several of the conspirators who managed to escape India were apprehended and sent back.&nbsp; 
 
Gangster Abu Salem was one of them who was extradited to India from Portugal. In 2017, the special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court convicted six men, including Salem, for the blasts.&nbsp;

Salem is currently serving multiple life sentences in separate cases.

The death penalty was awarded to&nbsp;12 of them. One more passed away from illness, while the Supreme Court of India reduced 10 more death sentences to life in prison.

Pakistan's former spymaster, retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid is accused of engaging in corruption, the country's interior minister Rana Sanaullah said. Amid the revelation, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif called for the retired Inter-Services and Intelligence (ISI) chief's "court martial" over his alleged role in bringing down her father and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government.

In Pakistan, for retired army persons to be court-martialed, they must be reinstated into the service, following which a court-martial inquiry can begin against them.

<h2>What is Faiz Hamid's defence?</h2>

Faiz Hamid reportedly told a journalist that it is the army chief who calls the shots in the military and that the corruption allegations against him are baseless.

"When something surfaces, you will be informed," he told the questioner.&nbsp;

<h2>So will Faiz Hamid be court-martialed?</h2>

The Pakistani interior ministry has left the matter for Rawalpindi — where army headquarters are based — to decide. A court-martial inquiry, even the prospect of it, remains unprecedented given the Pakistani intelligence agency’s history of lording over the country's state of affairs and wielding&nbsp;control on&nbsp;Islamabad’s corridors of power.&nbsp;

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's&nbsp;official account quoted its chief Imran Khan as saying,&nbsp;“After the summary comes, I and the president of Pakistan will act according to the Constitution and laws.”

Khan claimed that&nbsp;President Arif Alvi will&nbsp;consult him on the summary.

“I am the head of my political party and the president will definitely consult me,” he was quoted as saying by ARY news channel.

A man said to be working for Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence, was allegedly shot dead in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, according to reports.

The ISI agent—identified as Laal Mohammad (55) alias Mohammad Darji—was the biggest supplier of fake Indian currency notes—a racket run at the behest of ISI.

He used to get counterfeit Indian currency&nbsp;from Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh and then supplied&nbsp;it to India, reports said.

It is being claimed that Mohammad gave logistics support to ISI, and had links with Indian mafia and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and his crime syndicate D-company. He also provided asylum to other ISI agents.

A CCTV video of the killing has now gown viral on Twitter purportedly showing unidentified assailants pumping bullets into Mohammad. The incident is said to have taken place in the Gothatar area of Kathmandu on the night of September 19.

The clip further shows Mohammad’s daughter jumping from the first floor of the house to save her father. But by the time she reached him, the assailants had already killed Mohammad and escaped.

According to the Nepali newspaper My Republica, Mohammad was running a garment business in Kathmandu.

The newspaper said that police are investigating the incident, though the motive of the murder is yet to be determined.

"Police are investigating the incident and nothing can be said about it yet," SSP Dan Bahadur Karki, Deputy Spokesperson at Nepal Police Headquarters, was quoted as saying.

The police are also investigating to determine whether he was involved in dealing counterfeit notes or suspicious uranium transactions.

According to local media reports, he had been staying in Kathmandu for the past six years and was involved in various business activities, some of which are illegal.

It is almost time for Pakistan's government to choose the next army chief. A senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader hinted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif could start talking about the appointment by the end of August and possibly make a decision by mid-September.

It is customary for the General Headquarters or GHQ to send to the defence ministry a list of four to five senior-most lieutenant-generals, along with their profiles, so that the prime minister can choose the best candidate for the position.

Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, one of the senior-most among the four candidates, is the undisputed front-runner for any of the two positions of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Dawn newspaper quoted a military source as saying. Mirza is a native of the Sindh Regiment. He had a distinguished army career, especially over the last few years in high command roles.

Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the current COAS is all set to retire in November. The army chief's tenure is meant for three years but Bajwa was given an additional three-year term in 2019. However, the general still qualifies for another term. There is a possibility that the incumbent might be interested in or looking for another extension. But as per a military source close to Bajwa, he informed those close to him that he would retire in November, the newspaper reported.

Among the current senior brass, Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas has the most experience in Indian affairs. He belongs to the Baloch regiment. Currently serving as the Chief of General Staff (CGS), he leads the army and has direct control over the intelligence and operations directorates, Dawn reported. He had previously commanded Rawalpindi-based X Corps and is Kashmir-centric, demonstrating the army’s entire confidence in him.

Another candidate, Lt. Gen. Mohammed Amir, is a member of the Artillery Regiment, and currently in charge of the XXX corps in Gujranwala. He was formerly the GHQ’s adjutant general. He has extensive experience in both GHQ and command roles, having also held the position of director-general of Staff Duties at the COAS secretariat. According to Dawn, his professional path has put him in close proximity to the current political decision-makers.

Who will be Pakistan’s new army chief? Here are possible candidates

A Pakistani journalist confessed to spying for the country’s intelligence agency ISI when he toured India in 2007 and 2010. He made this revelation during an interview, whose clip has gone viral on social media.

In the clip, Nusrat Mirza can be heard boasting on camera that he was invited by the then vice president of India Hamid Ansari and that he used to pass on information collected to the ISI chief during his visits to India.

On July 11, Mirza said that he received various 'privileges' from the foreign affairs department of Pakistan during his visits to India.

"I have visited India five times. I have visited Delhi, Banglore, Chennai, Patna and Kolkata as well. "I was invited to India at the time of Vice Presidentship of Mohammad Hamid Ansari," he claimed. In 2011, I also met with the Milli Gazette's publisher Zafarul Islam Khan."

Zafarul-Islam Khan is a former Chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission and Founder-Editor of the Milli Gazette, Indian Muslims' leading news source.

He also expressed disappointment with the leadership in the Pakistan Army and said that they are not considerate of the situation and usually ignore the work of experts.

"Khurshid [former Pakistan minister] asked me to hand over the information I had brought to [General Ashfaq Parvez] Kayani [former Army Chief]. I said I would not hand over the information to him, but if you want, I am giving you the information. He handed it over to Kayani," he said.

According to a media report on Saturday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially tasked the country's spy agency, ISI, with the verification and screening of all civil servants, giving legal cover to a practise that had already been in place but had not been formalised as part of the protocol.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division in exercise of powers conferred on the Prime Minister (Officers Category), Sharif has notified the Directorate General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as the Special Vetting Agency (SVA) for verification and screening of all public office holders.

According to the Dawn newspaper, the referenced laws allow the prime minister to change or create rules for the civil administration.

In Pakistan, ISI now decides appointments and promotions of civil servants

It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. The adage is much more pronounced in the case of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, whose photo&nbsp;suggesting “not-so-friendly” ties was shared on Twitter.

In the photo&nbsp;shared on Wednesday, General Bajwa was seen seated on a chair next to the prime minister. While in earlier pictures, the all-powerful army chief found his place on sofas.

According to local media, Bajwa was at the Prime Minister’s House to discuss the security situation in the region.

During the meeting, professional matters pertaining to the Pakistan Army was discussed, the Prime Minister's Office said on its official Twitter account.&nbsp;

However, more than the meeting, it was the photo of Bajwa and Khan that drew the attention of many.

The twiterrati in Pakistan believe that there is symbolism in the picture and that it exhibits the current equation between the two.

It has been well established that the government runs on the mercy of the army and the ISI, Pakistan’s intelligence agency.

Several opposition parties have dubbed Khan as “puppet PM” and claim that the 2018 election, which saw Khan staking claim to power, was rigged by the Pakistani Army.

But of late, the relationship between Khan and General Bajwa seems to be going on a downward spiral.

The differences began over the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as the new director-general of the ISI.

While Anjum, who is favoured by Bajwa, is scheduled to take over as DG (ISI) on November 20, Khan reportedly has been hoping to retain Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, the incumbent ISI chief.

There is also the case of extending Bajwa’s tenure, which is coming to an end on November 28, 2022.

Apart from that, there have been reports that the Army had been in touch with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who is presently in London and is facing a slew of charges on various corruption cases back home.

According to a CNN-News18 report, the Army had asked Sharif to come back and that his presence was needed in Pakistan politics.

Lt. Anjum was named Director-General of ISI in October, following a political squabble between the country's civilian and military leadership.

On Monday, Pakistan's National Security Committee (NSC), the highest forum for security coordination, approved the country's first-ever National Security Policy.&nbsp;

The DG ISI was also present at the high-level conference. The Pakistani government, on the other hand, has refused to provide any of his photographs or video footage.

According to a Pakistani federal minister, this was done as a result of the incumbent DG ISI's standing order to those concerned not to share any of his photographs or video footage from any formal meeting he attends.&nbsp;

For the same reason, none of his photographs or video recordings have been disclosed to the media since his appointment as the DG ISI, according to the minister.

The main accused in the December 23 bomb blast in Punjab court was an ex-cop and had links to Khalistani elements, state’s top police chief Siddharth Chattopadhyaya said, suggesting that the attack was carried out on the behest of Pakistan’s spy agency ISI.

Addressing the media for the first time after assuming charge as Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Chattopadhyaya on Saturday said that the accused — Gagandeep Singh, a dismissed Punjab Police head constable who got killed in the blast— was in touch with radical Khalistan elements when he was in jail in a drugs case.

Citing preliminary investigations, the DGP said that Singh got in touch with such elements “most probably while he was in jail in Punjab” where he “transitioned from just narcotics to mafia and terror”.

The top police chief said the blast was meant to create&nbsp;a sense of insecurity ahead of the state elections and instil&nbsp;a sense of fear in the courts.

The DGP said “police visibility” would be increased and security beefed up at crowded places in the state by pruning security cover of private individuals and deploying them in the field.

The bombing took place on Thursday, killing accused Gagandeep Singh and injuring six others at Ludhiana District Court Complex.

Ludhiana Commissioner of Police informed that the explosion was heard near the Record Room on the second floor of the Ludhiana Court complex.

The blast damaged the roof and walls of the toilet. Following the explosion, the bathroom grill fell on the vehicles parked on the ground floor.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has given approval for the appointment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as the next chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, ending days of stand-off with the powerfully military.

Anjum will replace the incumbent Lt Gen Faiz Hameed from next month.&nbsp; Anjum, who was commissioned in service in September 1988, earlier headed Corps V in Karachi.

He commanded a brigade in Kurram Agency, led Frontier Corps (North) in Balochistan and remained commandant of Command and Staff College Quetta before becoming corps commander Karachi in December 2020.

According to the notification issued by the PMO dated October 26, the incumbent ISI director general, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, will continue to hold the charge as the spymaster till November 19, 2021.

The appointment comes nearly three weeks after the military issued a statement to the media on October 6 naming Anjum as the next ISI chief, replacing Hameed.

As per the convention, the Pakistan Army forwards the names of three lieutenant generals to the prime minister, who picks one as the ISI director general.

Though the formal announcement about the choice is made by the prime minister, it is widely understood that the army chief conveys which of the three officers should be picked for the post.

The face-off began on October 6 when the army announced the posting of Lt Gen Anjum as DG ISI in place of Lt Gen Hamid, who was posted out as the commander of Peshawar-based Corps XI.

However, his appointment had not been immediately notified by the prime minister’s office indicating a deadlock between the Imran Khan-led government and the military — the first publicly known stand-off since the former came to office in 2018.

It was reported that Khan wanted to retain outgoing ISI chief Hameed till December, but Pakistani army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had taken strong exception to it.

The Assam Police have sounded an alert over possible terror strikes by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and terror outfit al-Qaeda over alleged persecution of Muslims in the northeastern Indian state.

A circular issued by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) on Saturday said the alert has been issued following reports received from the Special Branch of the state police.

The circular said the ISI is planning to target individuals including the cadres from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)—India's Hindu nationalist organisation—and army areas in Assam and other places in India.

"There is also a threat from global terror outfits to indulge in spectacular action by resorting to explosion of bombs/ IEDs in places of mass gathering/ mass transport/ religious places, etc," the circular stated.

Another input quoted in the circular said the al-Qaeda has called for jihad in Assam and Kashmir.

The circular further said the general secretariat of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has released a statement regarding the Dhalpur eviction drive in Assam's Darrang district, which had claimed the lives of two persons.
