US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Thursday (Mar 19) said that families of service members killed in Iran told him to “finish the job”. Addressing a press conference a day after meeting the families of six US troops, Hegseth vowed to “honour their sacrifice”. West Asia War Hits Tehran’s Heart of Trade

The spirit of Eid al-Fitr is subdued this year as ongoing conflicts and economic pressures weigh heavily across regions. With the Iran war casting uncertainty and a fragile ceasefire holding in Gaza, many families are scaling back celebrations. Rising prices and instability have turned what is usually a time of joy into one marked by worry and caution.

India has escalated its energy security response amid the ongoing West Asia fallout.
In a significant move, the government has now classified energy data as a national security matter, mandating real-time disclosures across the oil and gas chain. This comes even as officials admit the war is impacting supplies, but insist there’s no price hike yet. So what’s really happening on the ground?

US-Iran War: Did Israel Push US Into War With Iran?

WASHINGTON: With the Iran war entering its third week, the Trump administration is in hot water for reportedly requesting a staggering $200 billion in emergency funding. Amid concerns about the staggering bill of the Iran war, US President Donald Trump on Thursday (Mar 20) sought to downplay the costs, dismissing the bill as a "small price" to keep the US military "tippy top." Meanwhile, as soaring costs, combined with the Strait of Hormuz energy crisis, fuel economic troubles at home, Trump's Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has sparked controversy by saying it "takes money to kill bad guys." The Trump aide said this when asked by a reporter about the $200bn request. Internal reports suggest, in just the first six days of the conflict, the US burned through $11.3 billion—a nearly $2 billion-a-day price tag driven by dual carrier strike groups and a rain of "standoff" cruise missiles. $200B for war? Trump admin faces heat as Pentagon says “it takes money to kill bad guys.” With $11.3B burned in just the first 6 days, the Iran war is turning into one of America’s costliest conflicts yet. How big is the real bill? Scroll to find out

"We're asking for a lot of reasons, beyond even what we're talking about in Iran. This is a very volatile world," he said. Trump said that the US wants and needs "right now" vast amounts of ammunition, and the $200 billion was a small price to stay "tippy top". Speaking during an event in the oval office, the president said "We want to have vast amounts of ammunition, which we have right now...It's a small price to pay to make sure that we stay tippy top." New Delhi: The Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz have become increasingly dangerous for commercial shipping amid escalating regional tensions, according to a recent advisory from India’s Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR). The centre, which monitors maritime security across the Indian Ocean, described the situation as “volatile”. It highlighted a sharp rise in risks to vessels transiting the key chokepoint, through which around a fifth of the world’s oil passes. “Concurrently, GPS interference and spoofing incidents reported across key nodes such as Fujairah approaches are further degrading navigational reliability and situational awareness,” the advisory stated. Recent analysis by the Indian Maritime Centre shows a significant drop in traceable vessel movements, with more ships engaging in “dark transits”, turning off their Automatic Identification System (AIS), or manipulating signals to obscure their positions. This trend has intensified navigational hazards in already congested waters. The advisory also pointed to emerging dangers from debris. In several cases, vessels suffered minimal damage from falling objects, which experts believe originated from intercepted aerial threats rather than direct strikes. “This underscores a widening hazard envelope, where maritime traffic faces risk not only from direct targeting but also from fallout in active air defence zones,” it noted. The cumulative impact is severely affecting global trade. Confidence among shippers has plummeted, war risk premiums have surged, and supply chains for energy and goods are under strain. The IFC-IOR’s latest update reported 25 incidents in the region, with 21 vessels hit and seven lives lost. One Indian-flagged vessel has been targeted, though Indian authorities have stressed no casualties on Indian-flagged ships so far, with monitoring ongoing for Indian crew on foreign vessels. Shipping companies and ships’ masters have been urged to exercise “heightened caution”, maintain AIS discipline where safe, and follow Best Management Practices (BMP) and IFC-IOR advisories closely. The warnings come against a backdrop of widespread electronic interference, with reports of hundreds of vessels affected by GPS jamming and spoofing in recent days, further complicating safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) said 22 Indian-flagged vessels, carrying 611 Indian seafarers, are currently present west of Hormuz. More than 488 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated, with 16 in the past 24 hours.

As the Iran war escalates, experts are concerned that the current situation could trigger a nuclear war. The World Health Organisation (WHO) is worried and says it is preparing for the possibility of a nuclear catastrophe. Politico quoted Hanan Balkhy, WHO regional director for the eastern Mediterranean, as saying that the United Nations is keeping a close watch on the fallout of US-Israeli attacks on Iran’s atomic sites. “The worst-case scenario is a nuclear incident, and that's something that worries us the most,” Balkhy said. She added that they can prepare but not "prevent the harm that will come". Balkhy warned, "The consequences are going to last for decades" if this scenario ever unfolds. Notably, the US and Israel have been striking several regions in Iran, including those where nuclear plants are located. Iran earlier said that a projectile struck the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant premises on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, Iran has also been regularly hitting places in Israel and the Middle East. Israel is also a nuclear country and reportedly has a huge arsenal of nukes. Even the United Arab Emirates has such facilities, all within range of Iran's missiles. Even the United Arab Emirates has such facilities, all within range of Iran's missiles. As the war continues and expands, there are fears that any of these facilities could come under attack, triggering a nuclear holocaust. https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-iran-war-iran-will-hit-west-asia-s-energy-infra-if-our-facilities-are-hit-1773928805914/embed Pentagon seeks $200 billion for Iran war The US is preparing to fight Iran for several more weeks, as Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth almost confirmed that the Pentagon is seeking $200 billion for the war. “I think that number could move. The warning comes after the South Pars gas field and other sites were struck, heightening fears of broader conflict and energy disruption.
